In case you didn't know, this place is the old Arnies restaurant and bakery rebranded. They still have the things that I liked most from the old days, but now have pizza and tacos. We came by for the free pizza, grabbed a cuban as well so we weren't just mooching. The pepperoni pizza (4 bucks normally) was good, nothing incredible, but definitely worth eating. I'd probably spend another buck and grab one of Little Caesar's 5 dollar carryouts, and I think they even have similar flavors. It had a solid pepperoni pizza flavor -- and the sauce wasn't bland tomato sauce like so many "artisan" places -- but the crust is the best part. Nothing to blow you away, but a perfect combination of light and crispy and a slightly nuanced flavor that makes it surprisingly satisfying. The cuban was again just a solid sandwich. Biggest complaint was that the ingredients were not evenly distributed. You'll notice in our photo that the cheese is only on half of the sandwich, and the mustard is also only on half (in this case, the half without the cheese). At least it's only 7 bucks, which is surprising for a hipster-looking joint. The service here was fast and friendly. Short story: We actually thought our cuban was a turkey, so we took it back to get the cuban we ordered. The woman was very friendly when we complained, then very friendly and understanding when she came out and explained that, no, that *is* the cuban, and after they remade a fresh sandwich for us (!), she was very friendly in dropping it off and letting us know that, if we didn't like it, they'd be happy to get us something else. And the prices here are much better than what you'd expect from a place that looks and sounds like a rip-off hipster joint in Grand Rapids. SUMMARY: Good food, reasonable prices, quick and friendly service. Would definitely bring some out-of-towners here for a quick bite, based on our single experience. read more

This place leaves much to be desired, especially the food. I ordered the pork nachos and they were the worst nachos I've ever had. The meat had no flavor and the rest of the toppings were sparse. The chips were soggy within minutes and most chips didn't have any toppings. Very disappointing. The spinach and artichoke dip was lukewarm and looked like it was thrown together without a care in the world. We had several paper menus, including "event menus", which were not necessary. This is one of those places that has a lot of menu items but they do things mediocre. Our server was okay. Nothing amazing. There was "entertainment". A man was singing cover songs by himself with his guitar. When he took his breaks, our table could finally talk to each other without yelling. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. The review ratings have GOT to be fake. We drove from Kalamazoo to have a nice evening in GR and enjoy this restaurant. Our first clue for things to come should have been when the waitress came by with glasses of ice but no water. The water cane 30 mins later after asking other waiters twice. No silverware, drinks took 40 mins, apps took another 20 mins!! They switched mashed potatoes for some raw quinoa without asking us just bcos it was the over!! Their hot bread was straight from the freezer- inside still raw. While I do understand short staffing and all the usual excuses these days, all would be ok if the staff just come and explain things- not just ignore... All in all- worst experience- no way we are going back read more

First time since the redo of former Arnies. I will say actually finding a time they're open has been a challenge. Dinner yesterday. Love the look of the place, our server was great. Happy Hour specials were nice. I had a winter special of tenderloin and risotto. Excellent, didn't ask how I'd like beef cooked but it was solid, risotto was filled w veggies and good but a bit salty. Husbands dish and chips was good...lots of fries served w cheese sauce. I have ordered take out three different times now from here. I figured I would give them a few chances because there are making the switch from Arnie's to Beer City Bread. Each time I have gotten steak taco's with cilantro and onion. Pretty straight forward. Limes, salsa and hot sauce on the side. Mind you I am fully aware I am not going to get truly authentic tacos from here. To start off tacos are on corn tortillas which a good start. There is also a decent amount of steak, cilantro and onion, that is the good. Unfortunately, the steak is thoroughly cooked and cubed/chopped up. The steak itself looks to be a flank steak. Before adding anything I gave the steak a try. It is very bland and un-seasoned meat. very disappointing. Initially they were giving out about a teaspoon worth of salsa per taco, now they have upped there game to approximately a tablespoon, not bad for 1 taco. If you want hot sauce you might as well go somewhere and buy some. They give you Franks Red Hot, which has no business going on a taco. I would be interested to know if Franks has actually ever seen the likes of a taco... Anyway, if you are down for a corn tortilla with bland steak, cilantro, onion, a bit of salsa and Franks Red hot you are set. read more

I have come here many many times and have been very impressed with the food and drink on the happy hour menu. I always get the pretzel bites, they are the best! Everything I've had here has been good. I will say, the thing that is most lacking is the service. It is always subpar. I go out to eat so I can get an experience and service is a huge part of that. The servers I've had here all have the same type of vibe to them. I feel like an inconvenience when I go here. I came last night and I had this blonde server. He provided some of the worst service I've ever had. Barely talked, only checked up once, never got me another drink. If you decide to go, I would say try to sit at the bar. I feel like they hire a ton of high school or college kids with no experience and they just don't care. read more

I haven't been so disappointed in a meal since the height of Covid. We ordered the happy hour appetizers, chicken wings and pretzel bites. I have never seen such small wings in a restaurant. I wouldn't have served them. They were overdone because there was no meat on them. Note: The sauces are served on the side. The pretzels were decent but not warm. The aoli sauce is the only delight of the meal. I thought the beer cheese was soup because it was so thin and had potatoes and possibly bacon in it. I ordered Perch with Shrimp. When the meal came, I almost asked the waiter where the fish and shrimp were as I couldn't see them.I couldn't see them because they were the same color as the fries that covered more than half the plate. Nothing was overly warm, nor did it differentiate in flavor. There were only two very small filets of perch. All the meals, with the exception of the pizza, felt as if it was precooked and semi-warmed when ordered. We also had the chicken sandwich with honey and jalapeño. It was just ok but a generous portion. When we left the restaurant, there were many people waiting to be seated, and I just wanted to warn them to go somewhere else. IF I had to come here again, I would only order a pizza and a beer. We left very disappointed. read more

I get that the family is trying to make arnies relevant but the food was sub par at best. Both times we've gotten take out we've been disappointed in the quality. Bread is good, but the stuff on the insides is poorly prepared, poorly seasoned, and seems very low quality. For instance- a French dip should have shaved beef not crumbled sizzler that is overcooked- it was like a philly cheese steak but worse. Arnies might have had an outdated menu but their quality was always great. The kids took over and it went down hill fast. read more

I have food insensitivities. I asked about dairy and Stefan, one of the owners came out. He was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Cool story is his grandfather was Arnie who started the Arnies Restaurants which is where this restaurant was. He also mentioned the multigrain bread is from Italy with the starter dough being passed from generation to generation. I had roasted vegetables with pepitas, dried cherries and apples and added beef tenderloin medallions (which were two regular size steaks!) I did not have the quinoa/rice with it as I haven't reintroduced those foods yet. I was also able to have sweet potato fries as they use a gluten free fryer. My husband had the perch dinner and my daughter had a pulled pork sandwich on a pretzel bun with truffle fries and truffle aioli which she loved. They also had the spinach artichoke appetizer which they raved about. Our waiter was awesome too and was helpful with food allergies too! We will be back when we're in town again! read more
