Walked in to schedule an appointment for some work on my air cooled VW. Justin said that his business model requires me to source my own parts... Called AutoNation to ask about parts and they were confused because Beetle Barn sells parts... There's no reasonable explanation for Justin's response... I recommend Trophy Performance. They had our bug for months! It was filthy when we finally got it back and they left it sitting out in the sun all summer long. The main reason we took it in for repairs was not really addressed. It actually came out with more problems than it went in with. We paid $1,000 and had to bring it home and fix it ourselves. read more

Had a major problem develop on a long road trip coming back thru western Colorado/southern Utah for my 1979 Bus. The vehicle felt starved for fuel. I was really worried about getting stuck in the middle of no where. Never been to Las Vegas for VW maintenance, and didn't know where to go. After some frantic internet research, located "Beetle Barn". And glad I did. Met Justin while he was eating a sandwich. He calmly told me he thought it was a dual relay problem, which was subject to a 1980 recall notice by VW. How does anyone actually know of recall notices issued some 40 years ago? Without any drama, he took the vehicle in, replaced the relay and did a few other recommended repairs. He also noticed a lot about the engine that other mechanics seemed to have missed in the past. I was one the road and the Bus felt great. Justin's shop is the first place I'd go in Las Vegas for my Volkswagen. His talents are appreciated. read more

I was originally coming here to get my wiper motor looked at for my 66 Beetle, but plans changed and I broke down in Jean and ended up having to get the engine looked at instead. They told me I had a damaged alternator and would need to get it replaced, and a week later my bug sounds stronger since I bought it! And looking at an alternator replacement video combined with my lack of knowledge on mechanical engines in general, I am very thankful for Beetle Barn's hard work, and I honestly felt bad that I was sounding like a nag to them. If you are a trusting soul who doesn't care if progress on your vehicle repair is communicated with you, this might be your place. The owner Justin is grumpy and I was made to feel like a second class citizen by his attitude. And I found out that the $850 repair job he did would have cost only $450 at a close by and reputable European repair shop less than a mile away. I guess the lesson to me is not to commission work with someone who doesn't even take his earbuds out when you are trying to talk to him. That should have been enough of a warning sign to go somewhere else. read more

I've taken my VW here three times because my car kept coming back with the same issues it went in with despite them assuring me they had been fixed. I have now had to go to another mechanic to do what i initially paid Beetle Barn to do but never could! Not to mention I gave them a brand new set of valve covers and gaskets I purchased online to install in my car for me and I got my car back with the old pair still on it and my new ones were GONE!!! They take forever to finish any project and even longer to call you and tell you the work is done!!! NEVER AGAIN! This place is horrible! read more

These guys are REAL JERKS, especially the owner, Justin. Waited nearly a month for my "appointment" to drop off my car. Did so on a Thurs. early afternoon. Went over my detailed work list. Was told I'd hear back the next day. Never did. Called them 4 times between that Friday & the following Tuesday. They never answered their phone nor replied back. Finally went back to the shop that Tuesday to learn they hadn't even touched my car, that is after they made a big deal about having limited storage . Took my car home, with a broken mirror which occurred at their shop. Stay away from these guys if you value your car & sanity!!!! read more

I own a 1970 VW Bug which I bought used in 1974. I now have over 200K miles on it. I had the engine replaced at the Beetle Barn and I'm very happy with it. It runs like a top. Sounds crazy but I had two other engines put in it here in Vegas in the year before I went to the Beetle Barn and both of the previous engines were junk!! IMHO the Beetle Barn is the only place in Vegas where you can get decent work done on your bug. Don't even think about going to anyone else in this town (although I didn't try VW dealers). They are a little pricey but very professional. The new engine (now a couple of years old) passes a smog check and the Beetle Barn will get it smogged if you can't with some careful tweaking. read more

Primarily an expert at charging my credit card; perhaps even capable of simple maintenance work, certainly nothing more. The work he did on my kit car was absolutely abominable, extremely expensive, most of it had to be re-done by a real mechanic, and also wasted months and months of my time. Here is a partial listing: 1) Transmission: My car had a shifting problem when I got it. Justin sold me a rebuilt transmission but still had the same problem. Finally traced this to the shifter bushing; he said he would install a race shifter bushing and let the car sit for more months; later said he couldn't find such a bushing and installed the regular nylon one. Unfortunately it was always hard to test this stuff at the time because of the engine issues (see #2). Given my experience, I believe the "rebuilt transmission" was simply unnecessary padding the bill. 2) Engine: I wanted a very reliable Beetle engine, so I asked to have electronic ignition and a new carb installed. Car always ran at extremely fast idle (2500 rpm) when I picked it up. Later another mechanic found that the linkage was installed "wrong." Once we slowed the idle down to normal, we realized that the engine had a bad miss -- the result of ignition wires that installed wrong on Cylinders 3 & 4. With the right mechanic, this was a 10 second fix. Things were okay then until the carburetor worked loose and started leaking fuel after about 200 miles. Oh and BTW, Justin also kept my original VW carburetor, which was worth some $$$. 3) Installed new steering wheel but never got it on straight and never returned the old wheel. Another mechanic fixed that. 4) Let the car sit for months on end, promising to rewire it. Finally I had to pick it up and take it elsewhere -- smartest move I ever made. 5) While my car was sitting in his shop for months on end -- and while he was supposedly replacing all my gas lines (he didn't do all of them, either) -- the gas tank went from full to empty. I later traced this to a bad gas cap. Now, wouldn't a decent mechanic think to check the gas cap as part of a fuel line install? read more

Since I bought my 67 bug last October, which was my first classic beetle to own and I had no idea about the car. Unfortunately car broke down on the first day I bought the car and had it towed to Beetle Barn. They inspected and gave me a news that I needed to rebuild the engine. It was huge decision for me to make because there were also many problems with the car, anyways I had them rebuilt the motor and it is running like a champ(except I have a clutch cable problems now). I originally found Beetle Barn on YELP four years ago when I was living in San Francisco. I was in search of a good mechanic I could use once I moved to Vegas. Beetle Barn had a 4.8 star rating and the customers really raved about the excellent customer service they received. Two years ago I wrote a 5-star review for Beetle Barn myself and it was featured along with many other reviews of the same caliber. Now suddenly all of those 5-star reviews are listed under "not recommended" reviews. I thought it was important to write yet another review given that the current rating of this business doesn't reflect the top notch customer service and expertise of this shop. Recently I had to sell my VW bug and I was heartbroken because I thought I wouldn't be able to bring my new Toyota to be serviced at Beetle Barn because it's not a VW. Justin, the owner, assured me his team would be able to service my car and continue to give RUBEE, my new Yaris, the same expert care they gave my Beetle. To Justin and his team, we are more than just customers. We are part of the Beetle Barn family. Each and every time I have had an issue with my car he has tried to find the most economical solution for me and he has gone out of his way to provide stellar customer service not only to me but to other customers. As a woman I have always appreciated that he hasn't tried to taken advantage of my inadequate knowledge of car maintenance. I love, love, love this place. My 2001 Beetle was acting funny. Took it to a dealership and $850 later the same crap was going on. Found this place on google and thought "why not try someone NOT part of Volkswagon?" Best desicion ever!! The owner kept me up to date as he figured out what was going on - communication is great! It actually turned out to be $20 LESS than what he quoted me to fix it and it's been running good for 3 months now without problems. If you have a VW - GO HERE! read more
