We enjoyed dining at the Bower this holidays season, as it was very aesthetically dressed for Christmas and had a fun cocktail menu to match. For beverages, the Frozen Eggnog Daiquiri was a nice sweet frozen drink and the Christmas Cosmo was a bit tart but still tasty. To eat, we tried a variety of items - thankful that there were quite a few options for vegetarians. The Bower Potatoes are a must (perfectly crispy and that green goddess dressing?! So good), the Crispy Cauliflower is not as crispy as I hoped for but still a great kimchi-esque flavor, the Basil Spaghetti was nice but could've used a tad more salt, and the Avocado Panzanella was surprisingly my favorite dish of the evening! If I could give 3.5 stars, I would but rounding up to 4 for the great ambiance and staff! The vibe here is niiice.. cozy, stylish, and perfect for a catch-up or date night. The arancini didn't quite hit the mark for me -- not crispy enough & cold (2.5), and the cacio e pepe was a bit underwhelming compared to very good ones I have had (3). But the truffle bread was a standout--very tasty, wish there was more red pepper so it wasn't so sweet but yumm(4)! It was all just decent food, nothing special or mouthwatering... too bland. The appetizers are a must have. The crispy cauliflower and the whipped feta are some of the best appetizers I've had ever. The chicken Parmesan and the other pasta dish were good but a little disappointing. I would suggest going to the Bauer with a large group so you can do more mixing match with the appetizers and drinks. They also run a fun happy hour so go check them out and they have good seating inside the main Hall as well as a larger back patio seating with an additional bar. Our waitress was so kind and made sure we were having a good time, she gave us some good recommendations on things to eat and made an amazing gin sour. read more

Beautiful spot on magazine! Great place for celebrations and gatherings. Food came out quickly and was coursed out well. We ordered a few small plates and mains to share and it was the perfect amount. Service was attentive, appreciated them checking in on our table and also making sure we had utensils to share all our dishes with. Food was packed with flavor and was well balanced. Our faves were probably the avocado panzanella and the pasta bolognese. Had high hopes for the pesto pasta but felt some flavor was still lacking. Nonetheless food was great overall! I have been here about 3 times and I am - sadly - never impressed with the food. I am impressed with the cocktails; those drinks are GOOD. The most recent time I dinned here was about 6 months ago during the holidays with all the Christmas decor up and had requested on the reservation to be seated near all the decor and the music. The hostess said there was no room over there but said they can still make Christmas cocktails for our group of 4. I was disappointed since I came all decked out in Christmas gear and was really looking for that ambience, but I settled for the festive cocktails. The cocktail I ordered was the Magazine Street Miracle - a tasty bourbon drink and it did in fact taste like the season. I enjoyed it a lot although I wished it came in a more Christmassy, fun glass. The apps we ordered was the pork belly and scallops. Now the waitress did warn us that the scallops were **VERY** small. And I really appreciated her being honest with us. Sure, enough when they came out --- WOW, it was ridiculously small. The presentation left a lot to be desired as well. But that pork belly was spot on - tasty. Then I ordered the green pest spaghetti - this did make up for the size of those 2 teeny tiny scallops, but I did not love the flavors. It was just ok for me. Service was great, but the food was a bit underwhelming overall. My husband had the skirt steak, which lacked flavor, and I ordered the Gulf shrimp with pepperoni oreganata. The shrimp were large, but the flavor and texture didn't quite work for me. That said, the tuna crudo was delicious and definitely the standout dish. In town for a work conference and we needed last-minute reservations for a group of five. The Bower was it able to accommodate. Restaurant has a warm welcoming atmosphere and a great covered outdoor space that opens up into a larger courtyard. Start with the charcuterie board, which has three meats and three cheeses, chosen by the chef selection of the day. The apple butter was to die for. Also shared an appetizer of whipped feta, which was amazing. The menu has a variety of choices, including some homemade pastas that were excellent. Very pretty restaurant inside - very nice service. Food, however, was more interesting than yummy. Maybe that's not quite fair, as the sweet pistachio sauce was great on my gulf shrimp - and the shrimp was so large and so good I almost did not want the distraction of the sauce and nuts and long mushrooms, all of which were great. I appreciated that the middle piece of the shrimp was out of the skin, as I was not going to touch the heads! In fact, it almost made me a total vegetarian right then & there (I had to rotate the plate to not see their eyes staring at me). But hubs Basil Spaghetti had interesting flavors with green pesto and burrata cheese... just again more "interesting" than "must gulp this down". The mocktails especially seemed to be saying "look, we can add weird things so you can forget there's no alcohol!" The peach-basil-vanilla-ginger(beer) with sprinkles of Stuff on top and a... candied lime? - tasted like what I imagine aftershave to be, tho hubs drank it. I did absolutely love the vanilla added to my lemonade, but they also added a powder to make the color change - cool, but the powder part was bitter. Maybe if they had just concentrated less on the "mock" part of the mocktail to copy the cocktail as closely as possible, and more on making a refreshing drink (like the pomegranate lemon soda at Shaya!), the drinks would be better, not bitter. read more

We had a party of 7 so we were able to try quite a few things; All the food was excellent; the Red fish (gulf fish), gulf shrimp; the papardelle bolognese was exceptional; the lamb meatballs were small but so tender and flavorful; the potatoes were delicious; the fireside cocktail was delightful, really balanced; espresso martini and the cosmo were enjoyed; and lastly the avocado chocolate moose was so rich and creamy and strawberry shortcake was light fluffy fresh and perfect for sharing. Came to The Bower during a professional development conference. One of the well-known EHR companies hosted a HH for their customers. This was a nice way to be appreciated, not just for spending our hard earned money to ensure clients, business operations, and admin/logistics are handled accordingly, but also to simply recognize how hard mental health clinicians/providers work on a daily basis. I didn't get any pictures of the food that was served but there was a variety of finger foods. Charcuterie boards, hummus, and other dips, crackers, etc. We also indulged in cocktails/wine at the bar. The Bower is a beautiful restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. I think that should be clearly listed or the server should tell people since liver isn't usually on a cheese board. It said "assorted cheeses and meats". They had multiple pasta dishes that seemed good - I was between the Cacio e Pepe or the Bolognese but chose the Cacio e Pepe bc I didn't want more red meat that night. It was good - but very greasy and oily and heavy. The star of the show was dessert - we went with the flourless chocolate torte cake and it was SOOO good. Rich and thick and decadent. They had an amazing cocktail menu where I tried the Aquarius and Cancer cocktail and both were absolutely stunning. The pesto sauce was very satisfying and the balsamic drizzle cut through the fattiness nicely. I love the giant pile of burrata on top. My only complaint about this place and the reason I can't give 5 stars is the food took a rather long time to come out (about 30 minutes). Apparently, in New Orleans there is a Christmas tradition called Réveillon Dinners. Quick History Lesson - Back in the day, the Creole people would serve these big dinners to celebrate Christmas after they returned from midnight mass and these Réveillon dinners are in honor of that tradition. Luckily not held after midnight. It was my last night in the city and I felt that I had try one of these dinners. This place was walking distance and had a decent crowd on a previous night so this was it. Seats in the front of the restaurant were the regular setup but the back was holiday themed, which was cute. 4 courses in total. In order of course, I selected the Pork Belly & Scallions, Piquillo Pepper Carbonara, Duck Confit, and French Triple Cream Cheese. Fave out of them all? Duck Confit ... I've never in my life had duck confit but it was so good. It may be a bit much for some but it was so tender and just overall delicious. The 4 courses were ~$70. Very reasonable if you ask me. Staff was amazing. I wish I could remember the name of the lady who took care of me. She was absolutely amazing and seemed interested in my food tour around the city. To start, this place is absolutely beautiful with a multitude of different plants throughout. There is a restaurant area with a smaller bar in the front area, but if you're here to have a drink, head to the back wrap around bar area. There is an ample amount of seating with both indoor and outdoor areas. I ordered the Cacio E Pepe, Mocktail Mood Ring, and Cheese Board from the happy hour menu. The happy hour serving of Cacio E Pepe is large enough to fill you up. While the pasta was delicious, it lacked the strong flavor I was expecting. The cheese board was delicious. I chose a Gouda and Brie cheese, and It was served with a purple hummus, berry sauce, carrots, pickles and brussel sprouts with toasted baguettes drizzled in olive oil atop. The Mood Ring was beautiful but the Vanilla Lemonade that it is made with was not sitting too well with my tastebuds. It also has Butterfly Pea flower atop the lemonade. My biggest con was the fact that I was charged the same happy hour price for the mocktail as an alcoholic cocktail. The alcohol version is originally $14, but $8 during happy hour. The mocktail version is originally $9 but I was given a happy hour price of $8 when it contained no alcohol whatsoever. I found this very strange and unfair so I asked the bartender to give the vodka shot that would've come in the alcohol version to my cousin to have since I ended up paying for it anyways. Needless to say, when I am ready for a real cocktail, I'll return to try some other items. read more

We came to celebrate my good friend's birthday on Valentine's Day so The Bower was packed. We got comfy at the bar. The Bower did not disappoint; we had excellent service, a filling meal and cocktails. The location is not on a crowded part of Magazine so you can find parking. The establishment is lovely inside, low lights and clean lines, lots of tables but not packed in so that it feels crowded. The Branzini was well cooked and a good dish but I wish there had been more veggies, especially at the price point for all that they offer. The dessert was perfection and enough to share. I love The Bower. I have been a few times and it is definitely time for a review. My latest trip was to try the coolinary menu paired with the wine tasting and it did not disappoint. This was my first time eating in the front dining area. It is very nice, modern, and sleek. The waitress came right over and was very friendly. EVERYTHING was scrumptious!!! The whipped feta is my favorite and my go to appetizer here. The confit chicken was so tender and cooked to perfection. The chocolate cake was the perfect ending to a super meal.
