Inconsistent! Ordered the Ninja pig taco two weeks ago and it was a good size. Ordered it today and it was the size of my palm with hardly any meat, ridiculously small. I mentioned it to the manager and she shrugged at me. Asked for a second orange sauce for our chips and they charged me for it. Very disappointing experience. I used to like belair a lot, the tacos were good, the margaritas were good, the people and vibes were just fun to be around. Maybe it's cause of covid but belair just doesn't have the same feel anymore. The food doesn't hit like it used to but it still isn't bad. The margaritas were still great so they have that going for them. Went at a busy-ish time so I can't count the service against them too much, our waiter was still very nice and polite but he still forgot a few things that we asked for multiple times. I'd be willing to give them another chance for sure, it felt like maybe we just went on an off-day for them. read more

I used to love going to Bel Air Cantina for tacos and margaritas. Unfortunately, the food seems to be going downhill the past few times I've been there. I ordered the spicy pollo bowl and it was anything but spicy. It tasted very bland. There weren't any condiments at the table that could be added to my dish and I didn't want to be a pain and send the food back or ask for condiments. My boyfriend felt the same about the tacos he had and was constantly using the queso sauce to flavor them. The rice was very bland as well. We didn't have drinks so I can't add much else to my review except the service was very prompt and the waitress was very attentive. For a more upscale dining experience, I would expect more flavor to the food. This happened the last time and I just brushed it off due to how busy they were at the time. In addition, chips and salsa used to be free and now it's $2. Kinda disappointing as most Mexican restaurants offer chips and salsa as a free appetizer. read more

Nothing about my opinion has changed. After an epic disaster BelAir offered $25 gift cards to people whose orders never materialized. Months later I decided to use the gift card on a pickup order. I place the order hours ahead of time, when I arrived it appeared they lost the order or never put it on. I waited 30 minutes for the food. I didn't check before leaving but I should have - two burritos and an order of nachos should never have taken that long but for 2 of the 3 orders to be completely wrong was beyond frustrating. The only order that wasn't wrong was so bad that it wasn't eaten. It was described as tasting worse than bad school cafeteria food. The red sauce throughout had no more flavor than a runny canned tomato purée. The nachos were extremely soggy despite asking for the salsa on the side (to conceivably prevent this) - which it was not. The remaining burrito was ordered dairy free due to allergies - it was not and the shrimp had zero flavor whatsoever, almost like defrosted frozen, wet bagged shrimp. I can't believe this place is expanding. We've given it more chances than most restaurants and the only thing consistent is how disappointing it is. read more

BelAir Cantina is one of those restaurants you want to love... but it comes up short every time. It's consistently decent, at best. The salsas and drinks are excellent. The food is terrible. I ate at the Brookfield location today and the corn tortillas on my tacos were cold and hard and the contents of my tacos were cold and bland. They didn't taste fresh. Blah. This goes for the Milwaukee locations as well. You guys have all of the makings of a great restaurant but fall short every single time. There's too many other amazing places for Mexican/Tex-Mex. 3.5 stars to 4 stars. I've been to Bel Air Cantina numerous times over the years at pretty much all their locations except Oak Creek. I really only go during the taco Tuesday/Thursday special because you can't beat a $2 taco. And let's not forget about their 3 salsas and chips! On this visit, my second at this location, I was disappointed to see they redid their menu. They severely reduced the selection of $2 tacos to the very basics like chicken, tilapia, carne asada, chorizo and corn & black bean. On my previous visit they had a bigger selection and I remember thinking how exciting that was to get to try such a variety. Not anymore. Since I wasn't really in the mood for basic tacos I decided to branch out and try the Korean beef burrito bowl. It was pretty tasty. But two things, 1. For my tastes, too much queso fundido and Sriracha crema. It was too saturated and I didn't love. If I had it again I'd asked for easy on the sauces. 2. There is an option for beans. I requested black beans. I did not see black beans in the bowl. Maybe they forgot. Our food did arrive super fast so I can see food being expedited and missing ingredients. Our server was very good. Actually better than I expected. He thoroughly explained menu options. He was also very good about listing menu items that would be better choices for my friend to order due to food allergies. He was also quick with food and drinks. However at the end of the meal it took him a bit to come around and give us the check but it was much busier than when we arrived. Bel Air is a good choice for consistently decent food and service. Since they are all over Milwaukee and the suburbs it's a convenient spot for a meal. read more

On the road for an AAU tourney. My son and I decided to have dinner at the bar. I will make this short. The food was good. The Birria tacos were amazing. The steak tacos were good not great. The Guac app was decent. I would eat here again. There is a ton of room for improvement. The waitress working the bar was extremely nice (young blonde lady) but not attentive. I placed our drink orders and it took so long the manager filled them. He also brought us our refills. She finally took our order. When it arrived she forgot our birria dipping sauce. She also forgot our silverware. Lastly,I ordered a desert which took forever. She also forgot to include the dipping sauce for the chirrios. One let down after another. I still tipped her 18%. What happened to this place? Food used to be great. Found food to be expensive,bland and salty. I have absolutely no problem paying for good food but this was far from it. Had the gringo burrito and the ground beef was way overcooked and had zero flavor. Wife had 3 tacos that were poorly prepared. One of the tacos barely had any meat and toppings. Two bucks for chips and salsa. Any other Mexican restaurants the chips and salsa come with the meal. I have been to this location three times now and while the fare and beverages do not seem to vary, I feel this location is superior to the original Belair on the East Side. My visits occurred at various times of day: lunch on a weekday around 1pm, dinner on Taco Tuesday, and a mid-afternoon lunch on Taco Tuesday. The waitstaff have always been friendly and on my first 2 visits we were added to a wait list of approximately 45 mins. We were paged after 15-20 mins. The chips and 3 types of salsa that is brought out to the table is absolutely fantastic! I would definitely purchase all 3 of those salsas if they were sold in the restaurant. I love that they are made fresh daily, so some days they have more zip than other or have a bit more of one flavor. Regardless, I always enjoy all 3 and I try to choose my favorite salsa per visit. I have never had anything less than delicious here. You can never go wrong with Taco Tuesday (you can also get 2 different tamales too!), or $2 beers, or $2 mystery shots! You are given the option of flour or corn tortillas, and black or pinto beans when order the tacos. Today I went with a barbacoa, tilapia, and soy chorizo taco.... all so good, but I think the barbacoa was my #1 and very, very close behind was the soy chorizo! The tacos are creative, and while they may be far, far, far away from being authentic, they deserve recognition of being a fantastic fusion of flavors! The "poor mans" margarita is peach is my favorite - it is flavorful yet light, and packs a good punch! The only thing I dislike about this restaurant/location is that the bathroom is so far away if you are sitting toward the back of the "restaurant" region. Like don't hold it to the point of an emergency because you might not make it to the bathroom. I like how it has the fresh and new feel. Let me preface this by saying, I've given Belair way too many chances to impress me. I've had bad meals at Belair many times (not just this location) but I think this was the final straw. I truly do not understand the hype with this place, as there are so many amazing Mexican restaurants in the Milwaukee area. We planned to order at a local authentic Mexican restaurant for Cinco De Mayo, but after that fell through we decided to place an order at Belair. We placed the order around 4:30pm, for a 7pm pick up. We arrived at Belair around 6:50pm and were surprised to see an extremely large crowd gathered outside. No one knew what was going on, including the employees, and there was absolutely no direction or management of the crowd until the police showed up. My partner was standing outside waiting, and there were people saying they had placed their order yesterday for a 5pm pick up and were still waiting at 7:30pm. We ended up waiting until 8:41pm for our order, which at that point they let the crowd know they were just getting to the 6:30/6:45pm pick up orders. At this point many people went up to cancel their orders, including us. Inside the restaurant there were rows of bags of food sitting, orders that had been made for people that left and didn't want to wait in line. It didn't seem like anyone was trying to help or manage the situation. I understand these are extraordinary times and today is a holiday, but how did this happen? The level of service was the worst I've seen in a long time. Barely any communication, and many customers angry and disappointed. read more

First and probably last time at BelAir Cantina. The chips did not taste house made and were mostly broken. They seemed like they were the broken chips from the bottom of the bag. The three salsas were bland, watery and strange. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant where you could not get a bowl of pico de gallo. I ordered the Carne Asada taco but they brought a Carnitas taco. They did exchange it. The steak was chopped into very small pieces and only about a tablespoon of pico de gallo was on it and I couldn't get any additional salsa. Since they apparently have pico de gallo, I don't know why you can't get a bowl of it on the side. I asked for silverware and the server bought two forks, when I asked for spoons she bought ONE spoon for us to share. It wasn't worth the effort to try to get knives and an additional spoon. Overall, it was not a good experience. There are many other good Mexican restaurants to choose from. read more

We had a really nice meal. Everyone did the 3 tacos, gives you beans and rice. The selection is very good, some thing for everyone; beef, chicken, pork, seafood and veggie. To be honest, sides left the plate flat. The rice is decent but not much spice. Same goes for the beans. We had the Cali guacamole. It is the bomb. Very fresh and seasoned well. I love Belair Cantina due to its laid back atmosphere, great drinks and twist on Mexican cuisine. This location is the newer of the locations and I was pleasantly surprised to see that food quality and friendliness is consistent . Hubby and I came by for taco Tuesday around 6pm - the wait was 30 minutes which is significantly less than their other locations. We were able to catch a seat at the bar within 5 minute of getting there... but you do have to be a bit aggressive to get a seat so quickly. Luckily - my pregnancy cravings for tacos gives me no shame. HA! We love sitting at the bar because the bartenders are so friendly and I especially at this location. It doesn't feel as busy as the Tosa location I frequently visited. I love the chips and salsa - the orange habanero sauce is my favorite and I always end up asking for refills. I like ordering different tacos every time I visit. This visit I ordered the Carne Asada, Barbacoa and fish taco. All are highly recommended. Ask for extra limes at the time of ordering or else you might end up with the bar limes which are cut thin. Something interesting I observed was that you have the option of purchasing a tequila bottle and keep at the restaurant. Once you purchase the bottle, you can come and order drinks from your bottle and all the fixings are included with the price of the bottle. I love this idea. Food quality is good. Takeout accuracy is really poor. I don't believe that anyone double checks orders against tickets. My recommendation is to never order extras or sides. Your taco or burrito order will be fulfilled accurately. Ask for extra guac? They'll charge you for it, and then not give it to you. Then you get home, discover its not there, and decide not to bother calling them because its not like you're going to drive back for a tiny thing of guac. In general, your odds of getting extras is about 50%. Makes me wonder what a tip on a take out order is supposed to cover. read more

We waited and waited for the arrival of one of our favorite taco joints this close to home. Now that it's here and I've frequented over a half dozen times, I'm kind of disappointed. For years we've frequented the Belair Cantina in Tosa. With this one being so much closer it's sort of a no brainer to go here. Our first visit was a Saturday night at 7:30-8:00 and the wait was 90 minutes. We didn't wait. Next, we arrived on Cinco de Mayo and waited 3 hours for a table. The food was good (as good as our usual at the Tosa location). The bartenders suggested the Paloma to drink and it was delicious. I returned at least a half dozen times more and I have to tell you that it seems to be very inconsistent with the food quality. About two weeks ago three of us went to have dinner. The first thing we noticed was that the salsas we're not the same as we expected. The salsas all seemed watered down and lacked flavor. We did complain to our waitress about it and she said she noticed people adding hot sauce to the one that supposed to be spicy and wondered what was wrong with it. We ordered the Cali Guac, but our food arrived and the guacamole did not. Also my taco came out and it was made wrong. It was supposed to have pickled onions but it had raw onions. We mentioned these things to our waitresses, and she said she was going to speak with the kitchen manager to find out what was going on. A manager did come to our table and took off the price of my taco and did not charge us for the Cali Guac. She said she was going to find out about the sauces. She thanked us for letting her know. Last week I went again and noticed the salsa had very little flavor and I had to add a lot of hot sauce. Although the tacos all came out fine, it's a huge disappointment when the real thing you love are those chips and salsa! I did mention it to our waitress and declined speaking with a manager again since I'd just done so a week before. I was shocked to find no improvement in the taste. One other side note. The first night we were at the Brookfield location and tried the Paloma, it was in a 16oz glass for $8. Every time we have returned and ordered it it's in a 10-12oz glass still for $8. When we inquired we were told they could put it in the larger glass but it wasn't more drink, just more ice. Not sure if I can even make sense if that rationale, but this is again showing inconsistency. While I will go to the Tosa location I'm not sure how often I will frequent Brookfield. I might give it one more try and if they don't meet my expectation (based on previous experience) I will not return. I want the good quality and consistent level of food and service as I've gotten at the other locations. Maybe Belair is getting too big to ensure the high standards they have at the original locations. read more
