Bell the Cat is our go-to place for great breakfasts. I love the salmon benedict and the fact that they have brunch cocktails, as well as great coffee and espresso drinks. I would not recommend the smoothies or biscuits, however. We also go here often for lunch, and while the sandwiches are generally good, they could be much better. A few criticisms are that paninis should be made on ciabatta or focaccia; the "melt" sandwiches should be melted, as they are typically just warm and the cheese doesn't fully melt; and they need to change the fryer oil more often, because my husband enjoys the chicken cutlet sandwiches, but the cutlet itself is always dark brown and overcooked. He also avoids the pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, as they are overcooked, according to him. Despite the few critiques, this is a good place where we are regulars. Although they need to get a dedicated host to greet people at the front, the servers and staff are generally very kind and welcoming, and the atmosphere is lovely. read more

Their food is really delicious. I get the greek panini once and the mozzarella focaccia the other time. Both sandwiches were delicious, not to mention all the desserts they have. I got the chicken pesto panini and it is as wonderful as it sounds. Hot off the panini press, the melted provolone over the chicken with slathered pesto. This was one of the best options I could have hoped for on a spontaneous food stop in the middle of 'nowhere.' I highly recommend this place as a stopping point on the way to Acadia. I've never been to Belfast and, as always, Yelp to the rescue! Locals seem to really enjoy this place and I know my boyfriend and I will always be able to find something at a sandwich shop. You order at the counter then they give you a number and you pick your own table. Quite a few tables were dirty and we ended up having to move away from the sunny booth we originally chose due to an unusually loud family. Luckily, it has a bright, spacious dining area and we found another table by a window. I find their system strange as I saw the servers walking around numerous times looking confused while trying to find people's numbers. I saw my server come out of the kitchen, pass my table twice then come back and drop off my food with barely a word. Sandwiches come with a tiny bag of Lay's and a great pickle, but I wish I had realized while ordering that they had other chips for sale as what they give just doesn't hit the spot. I ordered the grilled chicken pesto panini and asked to swap the focaccia for sourdough. When my sandwich arrived it wasn't on sourdough but I was disappointed for only a second as my first bite was incredible. The chicken was so juicy, the pesto was so fresh and the mozzarella, tomato and onion put it over the top. I'm glad they gave me focaccia as it was really incredible. My boyfriend had the ham melt on rye and it was just okay. It tasted like a sandwich we could just make at home, but the rye was very good. If I'm ever in the Belfast area again this is where I'll go, or if someone needed a recommendation for where to go for an easy lunch, I'd definitely say head to Bell the Cat and ask for your sandwich to hit the panini press, as I think that made all the difference! read more

We found this place and have been super happy with everything we chose to eat. The tuna melt with gluten free bread, was the best I have had in many years. All four in my party couldn't stop oohing and smiling with every bite full. The smoothies offered after our delightful lunch was perfect. First things first, apparently this used to be a Pizza Hut! But I would never know based on the food (it's not pizza). I got a basic breakfast and I thought it was good and priced well. My breakfast had two eggs (they asked me how I wanted them cooked, I felt so powerful), potatoes (fingerlings specifically), melon (didn't eat it because I am afraid of melon), toast (got to choose that too). Also, I got to substitute meat for avocado! INCREDIBLE! The way you order at Bell the Cat is: 1) order at the counter and then 2) they bring you food at your table. I was in to it. At the tables there were outlets that even had a special outlet so that you can charge your phone without an adapter. I didn't charge anything while I was there but it was comforting to know that if I wanted to I could have. The people who worked there were really nice and there was a lot of parking. Yeah so basically I had a good time at Bell the Cat and I think you should go there if you're reading this. Both were very tasty and the salmon bagel was reminiscent of NYC. The red flannel hash was interesting. Shredded beets with big chunks of corned beef and potatoes. I'm not a huge beef fan but it was pretty good. The corned beef is a little on the chewy side but is cut into bite sized chunks. Service was very nice and super friendly. On the way back from Penobscot fort Knox we were looking for a reasonable lunch spot and found this place on yelp. There were many places to choose from but this looked a bit like a place the locals went so we gave it a try! We had a little trouble finding it as they had just moved to 15 G Starrett Drive, just one stop light east of Route 1, rather than west of it. It's across from the Walgreens!! I had the loaded BLT, my husband had the Caesar wrap and my son the Thanksgiving panini. All the sandwiches were delicious and made with as much local produce as possible. This place is fantastic! We stopped in at lunch time, driving back to Massachusetts from Acadia. My panini special was absolutely delicious, but perhaps most importantly they have at least 20 different kinds of cookie in cute little glass jars. We left with a box of 13. By the time we got back to Boston, there were significantly less than 13 cookies left. Important note: this place is no longer inside a bookstore, it's on the other side of the highway than the address in Yelp currently claims, in its own very large storefront. If your map leads you to a strip mall with a hot dog place in it, you have gone the wrong way! We were visiting family and decided to get drinks and a snack to go for the road back to PA...we ordered a few smoothies and they were wonderful! No ice, just pure fruit and veggies. I had the Carrot Ginger and it was super delicious. I had a peppermint cocoa cookie with it which was really yummy. My hubby ordered the pastrami sandwich and it was really tasty too, on a nice chewy bread with tangy mustard and gooey cheese. All the staff are super friendly! This place is kinda a bad joke. Stopped a couple times on my trip, and was told the first time that coffee refills were free. Cool, since I work from coffee shops often, this was perfect. One of the next times I was in, I was yelled at by one of the managers/owner (not sure), saying I had to pay for my refill. This inconsistency trickles into every aspect of this place. Overall I went there about five times. Over the course, I was charged four completely different amounts for coffee. Nothing about this place feels good. If you're looking for good coffee and bakery, skip Bell and drive the extra four miles to Costal Cafe, which is incredible. Wish I had found the later sooner. read more
