I walked in here after eating across the street. I don't understand why someone would get frozen fresh pasta at a fresh pasta store so I looked at only what was fresh, got the large ravioli, penne, spaghetti, and some sauce. I have lived in the area since 1992 and always meant to go in, but never quite got there. Finally, last week, after reading what others had to say here, I made a point to go. It's true...the woman who runs it is adorable and very helpful. When I told her what I was thinking of buying, she told me right away the best way to prepare it, and with what type of sauce/topping. And, even though they sell ravioli in 1 lb minimums, she offered to let me buy less of the three flavors I was trying, since I hadn't had her product before. Very sweet offer. I decided...'what's three pounds of ravioli among friends'. The cheese was large and yummy. The pumpkin ok, but not punchy enough. And the mushroom...couldn't really tell that's what was inside. I'd go back for the cheese and maybe try other flavors. These people are just that nice, and the cheese just that good! read more

Great Ravioli!! We got the Lobster Ravioli & it was delicious!!! It didn't have freezer burn like most store bought ravioli. The filling was delicious and they were good sized. We also got the Pumpkin Ravioli & that to was awesome. The filling was not to sweet and very yummy!! The cheese ravioli is fantastic and you can get some freshly made if you come at the right time. The cheese gnocchi was also very great. The prices are really good--far better than buying store bough frozen crap especially considering all the work it takes for homemade ravioli. read more

There is nothing like fresh ravioli, especially when it is made right. And the folks at Bella Ravioli definitely know how to do that, as the raviolis I've had at this takeout place in South Medford always blow me away. Their sauces are good as well. I've tried the cheese, butternut squash and spinach raviolis. They are extremely doughy and lack a substantial amount of filling. Dave's Fresh Pasta in Davis Sq. is my preference for fresh & delicious pasta. This shop is run by really nice people, and they have a wide variety of fresh pastas. They even make 2 kinds of gnocchi: potato and ricotta, which is tough to find fresh outside of a restaurant. And lobster ravioli! Something for every pasta lover. A warning: It's cash or check only, and on a busy street with few ATMs, so come prepared. You can also order ahead if you need a large quantity of a specific kind of pasta and they will set it aside for you, which is nice. read more

I lived down the street from this place my whole life, and for every holiday, my Italian family would go buy *this* Italian family's pasta because it's that good. The food just cannot get any more fresh. The big ravioli are my favorite. The only negative, that you can't really fault them for, are the long lines at the holidays. read more

best ravioli of my life!!! the staff treats you like family and remember your face. they always go out of their way to make you feel welcome and like you are more then a customer to them. their cheese ravioli are out of this world. i wasnt crazy about their sauce (too tihn for my liking.. i like a meaty sauce) but i drive 30 minutes out of my way just to go there my boyfriends mother wont use any other type and now neither will I i should also mention that they do not take debit or credit cards... they are a cash only facility but its nothing a quick run to the atm wont fix. i have had their pumpkin and their cheese... i cant wait to try the spinach and meat ones and the lobster ones are calling my name read more

This place is filled with tons of homemade, fresh pastas. The cute little Italian lady told us the cheese ravioli had just been made that morning so we had to try it. Paired with my homemade pesto, it was excellent. They were huge, easy to cook, an very tender. We also bought frozen potato gnocchi and ricotta gnocchi. Maybe next time we will try the pumpkin ravioli or some tortellini. read more

I've been going to this store for decades--since their father was alive. Ravioli are as close to home made as you can get, without making them yourself at home. The sauce, which I use in a pinch, tastes just like my mother's sauce--the Sunday "gravy". And you can't get any more Italian than that--it's a REAL southern Italian red sauce. Are you looking for ravioli that's pretty tasty and reasonably priced, and this location is convenient to you and/or you have a car that makes it so? No need to read further, I endorse this establishment. Looking for the best ravioli in the Boston area? Read on for my thoughts. This location is a bit (alright, a fair bit) off my beaten path, but when it comes to ravioli for the holidays, I resolved to tour the options in the entire Boston area and find the winner. For comparison, my family has for generations bought ravioli in the San Francisco area from Molinari Deli, the meat variety, which is always fresh and tender. I tried the Pumpkin, Mushroom, and Meat varieties, all of which were frozen. I gather from the reviews that they perhaps have some ravioli which are not frozen, but they didn't mention that while I was at the store, and I didn't see any. I was surprised actually to be handed bags of frozen ravioli because I've always bought it fresh. I guess it was my fault not to have asked if there was a fresh option. I took all three home and cooked them that evening, and since I was doing the tour de comparison, I had several other varieties from other locations also in the testing queue, all of which were fresh. My ultimate conclusion is that while the fillings didn't suffer from being frozen, the noodle texture did seem noticeably more firm and just... frozeny. Not that the ravioli were inedible--far from it, and I'm giving them four stars--but I was searching for five star ravioli. The pumpkin was very intensely pumpkin. Think pumpkin pie, and choose your sauce carefully. The mushroom was laid back and seemed like a perfect vehicle for most any sauce, but wasn't bold enough to really bring something extra to the table. It was mainly just a very adaptable sauce conveyance. The meat ravioli was extremely intense, very strong tasting, and brought perhaps too much flavor to the dish. It overpowered a very hearty bolognese. The meat ravioli from Molinari that I'm used to has a sizeable cheese component as well, so perhaps I'm just used to the more mellow flavor. Another minor annoyance? The ravioli are too big to eat one in a single bite, but again, probably spoiled by my previous ravioli history. It's annoying to have the space you need to cut up ravioli without cutting any ravioli beneath it -- that means one large plate dedicated to a layer of ravioli that do not overlap. Pet peeve, but most of the ravioli in Boston seem to be large this way. Anyway, in the end, I settled on a fresh ravioli variety from another retailer, but I still recommend this place if it is located conveniently to you or if you're not on some crazy holiday search for perfection embodied in a pasta. read more

Bella Ravioli is right around the corner from me and the owner lives on my street. Although I don't know her well, we see her walking to work nearly every day. Somehow, despite living in close proximity to Bella Ravioli for over a year, I have never stopped in. My sister-in-law left us with some of their homemade angel hair pasta for Christmas and it was to die for! Cooked in under 2 minutes and it was better than any pasta I have ever tasted, including anywhere I've been in Boston's famous Italian North End! I'm not sure I can buy pasta from the grocery store after having it from Bella and I may have to start going there on a weekly basis to get my fix! read more
