Good Italian food, great price point. Comfortable surroundings...no reservations needed

My spouse and I grew up in Italian neighborhoods. My spouse in Boston (the North End) and myself in St. Louis (the Hill). Bella Sera reminded us so much of the neighborhoods. The food and service are excellent; spouse veal and me meatballs. Yummy. This is our go to for Italian. Imagine finding this place in the Texas Hill country. Awesome. read more

I ordered gluten free shrimp scampi and confirmed with the waiter that the whole meal was gluten free because I have an allergy to it. When my meal came, I was given normal pasta. It wasn't until a couple of bites in that I started feeling sick. The waiter brought me a new plate after I brought it to his attention. Food came out quickly but both me and my husbands dishes were lacking flavor and did not taste fresh. I have heard good things about this place but unfortunately I left feeling pretty disappointed and sick. I just wanted to leave a review because I know there are people with worse gluten allergies than I and I would hate for someone to have an awful reaction because of a mistake like this read more

Was told by a friend that the food is outstanding.......it needs to be standing out in the garbage!!!! Went in for lunch today.....there were 4 tables of customers...not busy.....it was 10 mins before anyone seated us (party of 2). It was another 5-10 mins before someone took our drink order. No smile, no "sorry I'm late getting to your table", no personality at all. We ordered from the lunch menu. Food was VERY HOT but dull, tasteless and no seasoning. Can't understand how they have stayed in business. Our server was the only server we could find in the restaurant.......we saw a "now hiring" sign as we left. One of our favorite places in Boerne. They offer gluten free pasta and are always very careful not to give us any gluten items. Service is always good. Sauce is fantastic Some of the best Italian dressing we have every had. read more

We had been to this location about 2 years ago when it was under a different name of Fredo's, we did not become returning patrons. So, seeing the new name Bella Sera and reviewing the full menu online, it had us interested enough to go. Walking in and being seated by a quite hostess which was telling of itself that she must be new, and then our server "Isa" (not sure on the spelling - no name tag) came to get the orders for us. Bread came to table with waters and shortly the wine and beer appeared 5 mins later. The wait time for our appetizer, fried calamari with marinara, came half way thru the wine, beer and bread. Yeah it was hot and tasty, so tasty it was finished it off. This item will be reorder on the next trip. This was consumed with another bread basket that was brought after another server came by to check the table. The restaurant was 70% full and there were only 2 servers and 1 kitchen staffer bringing food to all of the tables. Busy, busy, busy. The entrees came to the table about 10 mins after the hot appetizer was finished off which was brought by the other server. We were cautioned about the hot plates and asked if there where be anything else. The Lasagna and Chicken Parmigiana is what we ordered and everything looked good with very large portions, plenty of gooey cheese, bright fresh sauce and rising wavy steam going up into the air. Yes! This was a visual moment that we both smiled about. So, we started digging in and slowly experiencing the flavors, the dishes was a smash hit. Saving half of the Lasagna for lunch tomorrow was a no brainer. Now that cannot be said for the Chicken Parmigiana, this entree did not survive. It was devoured and nothing was remaining for a leftover to take home. My husband completely enjoyed this dish and if there were any issues of not cooked properly he would know. He is retired now from the food industry with the past positions of chef and kitchen manger to go back on for a reference point on food issues. And he had no issues in regards to his plate. The only lag of time that we had was after we had finished eating and while waiting for our server to return to our table with a to-go box. The time lapse was approximately 10 mins and when he did return, we had to remind him of the to-go box and that we wanted to get a dessert. A desert was ordered and we got it free because of the offer that was printed on a table top card displaying the message, "text this word to this phone number to get a free dessert or glass of wine". We did and within in 5 mins the cheesecake with 2 spoons came to our table and it was yummy. It was the Chocolate Cheesecake, that was not as big as imagined but the size was about 9 to 10 bites. Very creamy and delicious. When we were done our server came with the bill 5 mins later and was delightful with a smile and light banter about my husband being lucky because I was getting the bill and he did not. My husband laughingly reply that the luck was short due to the bill at the end of the month. The billing was correct and written by hand showing the drinks and food that were very economically priced. Not waiting for our server to return to the table, I just walked over to him and we had more light banter as the bill was completed and our total with tip came to approximately $76.00. Side note, the last Italian restaurant that we went to (Leon Springs Rd.) had a final bill of $150.00 for that same number of drinks and dishes. Wow right and at that place the Lasagna was sent back to the kitchen and another dish had to be ordered. Portions were smaller too, and we are not going back there because it was so overpriced for us. To conclude this review, the decision to work our way through the menu will be fun and we are looking forward to trying more. So, you can say that is review is in the 80% positive and 20% negative. read more

Headed home from Comfort and needed to eat... reviews were good and it was still open. Had a shrimp with spinach,white wine and pasta - yummy. Sweetie had veal picatta with angel hair . This was our first experience with Bella Sera since we moved here a year ago. So I'll share honest feedback and we'll give them another try to see if this was a fluke. I ordered the chicken parm, side salad. Wife had Fettuccine Alfredo (no chicken) side salad with house dressing. It was a take out order so the food was still hot when I got it home (we live maybe 5-6 minutes away). As I unpack everything I notice we only have one side salad. Not worth the trip back. I was surprised the meal included bread, two garlic knots and two pieces of flat bread. Dinner portions were generous. As began eating, my wife commented that her fettuccine had very little favor. My entree was better that average. The chicken was really good and huge. The bread was okay but could tell it was not fresh. The garlic knots were obviously old and very head. Disappointing because we've heard they're great. I hope our next experience will be better. I will note that the young lady that took my payment was very pleasant. read more

We had the lunch special and it was absolutely delicious!! The Sampler plate was to die for. The garlic bread twists were melt in your mouth delicious!! Super great food at a reasonable price. I am so glad we came here! This is my new favorite restaurant in Boerne! All of the meals sound delicious. I can't wait to come back! Literally the best Italian place in texas. The food here is amazing and pretty cheap. Don't get the cheaper menu options because they are just basic and the flavor isn't anything special. Staff is very friendly and the service is good. But this is not even close to Italian food. Overcooked sweet sauces, however they do have great bread. If you want a place to take kids and family this is it. For real Italian, run away. read more

We eat at Bella Sera when we want great Italian food. But this time it was not the same I ordered carbonara and what I got was a soupy white sauce drowning the pasta mushrooms and sandwich deli ham. My husband order chicken with cream brandy sauce and what he got was Costco chicken strips, alittle mushrooms and the sauce was the same that I had, soupy white sauce. To say the least it was the worst lunch... the server was very friendly and the food got to us fast. We wondered if all the food was prepared earlier and then put on the plates to serve. Food is great and the service is so-so. Great Italian food and delicious bread. I enjoy the Caesar salad but the tossed salad is very good too. The service is on the slow side. When this is by design to create a leisurely dining experience, it's a good thing. However, in this case, I believe it's due to short staffing. Well, it's been a while since we checked out Bella Sera since there are so many Italian spots around the Rim and La Cantera. Pleasantly surprised, chik parm was delish. The food here was good, but the server charged me twice. The restaurant is unable to refund my card. They're saying the only way to get a refund is via cash. It's a 42 minute drive to Boerne. Seems like this restaurant is behind the times. I've never had an issue getting a refund from a restaurant. read more

When I go to a restaurant I usually don't order something that I have really liked somewhere else, as I don't want to be disappointed. However, I took a chance on Bella Sara's Chicken Florentine and I am so glad I did. Not only was it as good as what I was accustomed to, but it surpassed my expectations it in every way possible. It was a decent portion (enough that I had some to take home) and it was flavorful and creamy, the serving temp was just right and the pasta and chicken were done to perfection. They provided bread rolls while we waited for the food , and I asked for some olive oil and Parmesan cheese to dip my bread in. They brought the cheese and to my surprise and delight a little bowl of olive oil with fresh basil, crushed peppers, and garlic that had been infused into the oil. The flavor was amazing with the bread rolls and cheese. I could have just eaten that and I would have been both happy and satiated, but I am still glad I had the Chicken Florentine. Wow. What a nice find in Boerne. Although on Main Street, it is a little past the main part of town. Some of the best Italian food I've had in a while. Had cheese ravioli and added a side of meatballs. Did not disappoint. Sauce was like moms! And they had a reasonably priced wine list so we added a nice bottle of Zinfadel. The food was delicious and the service was good, despite the dirty bathrooms and the overall dusty/old atmosphere. It's clearly a local favorite, as a half dozen guests came in for take-out and were comfortably chatting with the staff. With a facelift we think the place could be a real hot-spot. As it stands though, we wouldn't be surprised if it's completely shuttered in a year or two. We were there on a Friday night and besides ourselves only a few tables were occupied. Such a shame because the food was super yummy and the prices were reasonable. There needs to be a lot more emphasis on cleanliness though. If we're seeing that much grime, dust and odor in the front of the house, we hate to wonder what is going on in the back of the house/kitchen. read more

My husband and I have been going to Bella Sera in Boerne for about 3 years. We usually sit up at the bar. The service sometimes is a bit off, but overall not enough to deter us from returning. The employees are always friendly and accommodating. The food consistently very good. Nick's salad is fantastic. The garlic bread is so good (it's so good that it's bad! We eat way too much of it), and the various pasta selections and pizzas have been excellent. A great, reliable place to dine in Boerne that (most importantly) is open reasonable days/hours unlike so many other eating establishments in Boerne that seem to be randomly closed on days they advertise are open or close far too early on weekend nights. read more

This place is a rip-off let me explain. I ordered a spaghetti plate 10.99 and a toss salad 4.99 and a glass of tea and the owner charged me $21.01 do the math does that come close to 21.01. I have had better spaghetti at Denny's. All this jerk( the owner) wants is to take your money to hell with the food. He robbed me that's what it boils down to. Pathetic and you call yourself a restaurant who serves good Italian food. I would put Chef BoyArdee spaghetti up what you call spaghetti any day. I know you will have your faithful patrons dispute my experience but let me tell you this much if you really needed the 21.01 so bad I might given it to you if you asked for it, but don't screw over a long time resident of the town you live in. In from San Antonio for the evening on cold and rainy night. This was one of the restaurants open and we lucked out. Very cozy interior, sweet, friendly staff courteous with good prices and selection. I had the cream of mushroom soup as a starter, very flavorful. The Chicken Verona was excellent. Chicken with red pepper strips, artichokes and capers in a delicious light sauce over angel hair. Rolls are so warm, buttery and fresh. I will be going back. read more
