Food was just ok, most of the servers were very nice with the exception of ours. We came in with a group of 22 people, we honestly would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't for our rude server. I don't remember her name she was tall and thin with a mole on her face I think. She got 2 orders wrong, (I get it we had a large group) but for some reason this made her upset even though we should have been the ones upset. No apology, very cold and unfreindly. My sister asked for a very specific salad and she got it wrong so it was sent it back, the waitress was very obviously annoyed. And kinda tried to get back at her by asking for her ID when she ordered a drink. I know she is supposed to but she didnt ask someone who was 10 years younger then my sister....my sister is in her 30s, so idk that seemed like a revengeful act, maybe not. We had another server who was shorter with long dark hair in a French braid, she was very sweet and kind. After shopping at The Cotton Broker we were thirsty, so we walked over to the Bella Union for something to drink. Nina ordered strawberry lemonade and I ordered iced tea after verifying that theirs was house-made. Both came w/ refills. Service was aloof, perhaps because we hadn't ordered food, but refills were brought w/o asking. Nina found the lemonade a bit sweet for her taste. I thought the iced tea was perfect. The back patio is unique because it is covered by an arbor and what looks like a black walnut tree that snakes through the arbor to form a green dome of leaves. Quite attractive and relaxing! Inside was nice also, but I'd rather sit outside... even with the flies. Tip: If the seat you in the patio, sit as far away from the serving station as possible because there are tons of flies over there. I think on the other side of the fence is where they keep the garbage. I've tried and tried to like this place, but it disappoints every time. They have very few decent/semi-healthy vegetarian options, and their salads are abysmal. The service is decent when the restaurant is nearly empty, but as soon it fills is at all, which is often, chaos ensues and you will be ignored. The patio is beautiful with all its wisteria, and the only reason I tried the place more than once. The definitively last time I went, it was for its "incomparable" pizza, and incomparable was right!------ unless you compare it to a white-flour pizza crust that was ordered bulk from a food supplier and topped with substandard ingredients. I've been visiting Bella for the past few years since I moved to the valley, and my last two visits have just been bad. The first was during the oysters and ales blowout. The ladies toilet was clogged and we were told to go use a different business. I really needed to go though, so I asked the men if they minded that I use the stall in theirs. They did not, so I went and was washing my hands when the bus boy that had been cleaning the ladies room came and grabbed me by the arm, my hands still soapy, and was trying to pull me out of the restaurant. I was upset that he put his hands on me and asked to speak to the manager. The manager on duty didn't seem concerned, but let me return to the event. I called the next day and spoke to Christian who told me that they had already had some issues with Gary the busser trying to take on positions he shouldn't and apologized and said he would take care of the situation. I went back last night for dinner. Who was behind the bar? Gary. I ordered a martini from him and he had to go get someone to come make it because he is not a bartender. We had to ask to order drinks and food because no one offered. Once dinner was delivered no one checked on us and we had to get up to ask for more drinks and then later to ask for our check. I understand that the bar is a bit more casual setting, but once your food is delivered and you're trying to enjoy a sit down dinner, I shouldn't have to keep getting up to get things. I could do that for myself at home and save $40. The venue is beautiful, the live music is great, the food and drinks have always been good. Unfortunately, lately the service has just been a major disappointment and I don't want to pay that kind of money to be let down. read more

I have heard very mixed reviews of this restaurant from friends and family. My review is very simple; you could have done so much better. Both items that we had were severely overcooked. The lamb shank was almost fishy due to its level of overdoneness. The salmon had a dark grey bottom from being on the heat for so long. The trees branches have grown over the patio and create a beautiful view which are wrapped in lights. For the food. Bella Union feels like the quintessential tourist spot in Jacksonville. I guess all of Jacksonville could be described like this, but there are now some very refined, original spots here, and Bella Union feels almost over-the-top in comparison. First, the service and staff are wonderful. They are friendly and accommodating. The building and outside patio are very cool, and sitting under an ancient, gnarled wisteria vine is cool. My drink was a bit overdone, as it seemed all of the froofy drinks on the menu were. Strawberry rum pineapple rum rum was the description (or something similar) but it just tasted like a watered down smoothie. I had a smoked salmon linguini, since I was on a carb binge after fitting nicely into that wedding dress. The linguini tasted good at first, but I felt heartbroken at the amount of salmon that I couldn't eat because it was too salty and strong. I took it with me thinking I'd be able to eat it later. Didn't. My house green salad was really green and good. My new husband got a Caesar salad and cannelloni, and we can't be sure, but later got sick. (No proof that this was the cause.) The house dessert, which we didn't have this time, is the classic ice cream pie. It's good and satisfying, but nothing fancy. It's cool to read the history of the Bella Union, which is printed on the drink menu on each table. Also, they have an after-Britt festival menu which looks interesting. I was visiting from the Bay Area and my friend recommended the Bella Union in Jackson, OR. My impression was that the ambiance was very good in the bar. We decided to have dinner and was seated in a room that had stools like a diner. I noticed that they had a nicer room, but we were seated in a room with families and there children. It wasnt "terrible" but for $15.00 I was super sad about that. I had the same batch at rush market a few days earlier. For $5.00 I didnt finish either one. At least buy the country gravy from packet I promise it tastes much better than the can. Of course for price I was hoping for some bomb ass homemade gravy. Nope. Oh! Well we ate here a few years back and I had fond memories of the banana macadamia nut pie. Fast forward to December 17th, 2016! No longer good! The food was not great. We both ordered soup and a sandwich, maybe half sandwich, either way my wife was served a bowl and I was served a cup. Oh well, it was enough for me but strange none the less. Summer is my favorite time to go the Bella. The patio is amazing atmosphere. It's gorgeous. I've hosted several parties there as well. When it's been cooler, they've put us in the sweetest room which is great for intimate groups. The food is great home style Italian. The blue cheese vinaigrette is the best dressing. I really enjoyed my experience here. It was my first time visiting Jacksonville and my mother recommended it. We sat outside which was awesome - the roof is the branches from a large tree that extends all the way across, forming a really neat canopy roof over the dining area. It was wonderful weather so it was perfect to sit outside. I had an ortega chicken sandwich, which was a well seasoned grilled chicken breast, roasted green chile, pepperjack cheese and fresh avocado on a kaiser roll. It was delicious! I tried their smoked salmon chowder with it which was also very good. I had their dessert special of the day which was lemon gelato with local black berries - also very yummy. Our server was very nice and attentive. My only complaint is that the fruit that was served with our meals as well as the blackberries on the gelato didn't seem very fresh - the berries were a bit soggy. read more

Ok. I usually love my Bella. Tonight, 12/6/18. Not so much. First of all, the oysters we ordered were supposed to be bbq'd. Not even close to being cooked. Consistency of slime. Second, waited over half an hour for a beer. Last but not least, ordered sausage pizza with double sausage and received a pizza with hardly any sausage and to top it all off we got olives on our pizza. Great dinner. Started with salad and bread (the garlic butter is a nice touch) and then had our dinner. Seafood pasta had large chunks of fish and lots of clams. Spaghetti came with meat sauce and you could add meatballs for an up charge. And the mediterranean style salmon was absolutely delicious! They even include a dessert of your choice if it is your birthday. All of them looked great but I chose the crème brûlée. Great way to spend a birthday! read more
