Great dinner. Started with salad and bread (the garlic butter is a nice touch) and then had our dinner. Seafood pasta had large chunks of fish and lots of clams. Spaghetti came with meat sauce and you could add meatballs for an up charge. And the mediterranean style salmon was absolutely delicious! They even include a dessert of your choice if it is your birthday. All of them looked great but I chose the crème brûlée. Great way to spend a birthday! read more

Summer is my favorite time to go the Bella. The patio is amazing atmosphere. It's gorgeous. I've hosted several parties there as well. When it's been cooler, they've put us in the sweetest room which is great for intimate groups. The food is great home style Italian. The blue cheese vinaigrette is the best dressing. Food is sooo good. Especially at the Bella. Jacksonville is one of Oregon's best kept secrets. It's a small community just west of the busy I-5 corridor but you will feel like you are a world away. The town is home to the Britt Festival, an old-fashioned downtown district, cozy B&B's, and many good restaurants. Everything is in walking distance so park that car, put on some comfy shoes and see the town on foot! The Bella brings together all of the elements that make a GREAT restaurant - food, drink, service, and atmosphere are all tops here. Specials are always prepared with extra care and attention to detail. I recently tried the Aussie-style rack of lamb and it was heaven. My BF is a pizza lover and their pies made his eyes roll back in his head with happiness. There is a wide variety of beer available - both on tap and in the bottle. Cocktails are swoon-worthy. There are so many things I love about Jacksonville - but it's a tie for #1 between the Bella and the Britt. But the Bella alone would be worth the trip. It's that good! read more

I've been to Bella Union just once for food. I'm drawing a blank right now on anything that I could write about it...so I'm thinking that it was probably fairly unremarkable. What I do remember is that they have a killer patio which is enjoyable when the weather is just right. But more importantly and the real reason I am taking time to write this review is that they sell jars of Wild Bills Hot Dills. These are quite simply the best pickles around. Well, I say around, but I live in the Portland area and have to venture out to Jacksonville otherwise bribe someone to bring them up to me. The only other way I've gotten these pickles is from the Gary West website. But lets face it, Gary West does not sell the gallon sized jars (which are the most delicious because they probably sell slow and you end up with super duper spicy-garlicky pickles!). I only had less than 30 minutes to sit down and eat. My server was amazing! She told me what things I should order to be out quickly and even went back to the kitchen for me to check on cook times when she didn't know. It's pretty and our food was ok- we sat outside, and I think the service was a little slow, but very friendly. I liked their soup and salad (yup, I'm reviewing a place where I ate soup and salad) - and my hubby enjoyed the pork sandwich. If you're wine tasting (among the places that say they're open but were actually closed...ahem.) it's a relaxing place to stop and the staff is very nice. read more

Ok. I usually love my Bella. Tonight, 12/6/18. Not so much. First of all, the oysters we ordered were supposed to be bbq'd. Not even close to being cooked. Consistency of slime. Second, waited over half an hour for a beer. Last but not least, ordered sausage pizza with double sausage and received a pizza with hardly any sausage and to top it all off we got olives on our pizza. The waiter did not even offer to lower price or offer a comped beer. Very disappointed. We come here at least twice a month. C'mon Bella, hate giving one of my favorites a bad review. read more

Bella Union is a pretty good bar with a decent sandwich menu. The ambiance in the pub and especially out back on the patio under a beautiful wisteria-like shady vine make this a great spot to meet when the weather isn't blistering -- in spite of the pesky flies and the amount of tables and chairs crammed into this space. I enjoyed the lunch special Pastrami Dip, slices of moist, savory brisket with a tasty crust -- served in thin slices on a soft roll with caramelized onion. This is not a big sandwich for a hungry man. On the side a little ramekin of bullion posing, rather unconvincingly I believe, as pan jus to dip my sandwich in -- disappointing. The little tub of horseradish, however, did not disappoint -- it was finely ground and almost at hot as wasabi, reaching right up into the bridge of my nose with pungency. My spicy bean soup was -- just like a can bean of beans, what zest it had put in a very late and rather winded appearance. Coffee was good but the Banana Cream with Macadamia nuts and whipped cream on hot chocolate was, unfortunately lame in flavor and presentation. My date had their vegetable quesadilla. She's been here once before and thought to give them do over since her first meal missed the mark -- and unfortunately her lunch today was bland. Not even the two cheeses could compete or combine to add any depth of flavour. I tried a slice, definitely insipid. Service is very friendly and attentive -- there's definitely a nice vibe going with the wait staff. For us, Bella Union was a very mixed experience. I'd like to try it again -- but I think their luck has run out with my wife. read more

Visiting from Eugene during COVID, we were lucky to stumble upon this place. We arrived at dinner time on a Saturday night and were told no patio seating was available. No worries! They sat us inside. The building is cool although temperature wise a bit warm in summer with all the windows. Regardless, we enjoyed one of the best Caesar salads ever! SO GOOD! I ordered the Jacksonville pizza which was brilliant ( even delicious as a leftover). Hubs had tortellini which was a little meh to be honest. I was glad I ordered what I did. He said the meatballs were good though. And dessert! Wholy Moley. Hubs ordered mud pie. He usually orders dessert and I take a bite and am done. But he had to defend this dessert. I've been dreaming about it ever since. Haha. The crust! Yeah, I want that as part of my last meal. Anyway, upon leaving I took a gander at the patio and no wonder it wasn't available- it is beautiful! Entirely covered by a 100 year old wisteria (I'm told)! We were all set to have lunch and new exactly what we wanted when the maître d' came in and created a horrible embarrassing upset. He refused to let us sit there with my service dog. Not only did I answer his questions but I showed him the literal prescription written by my doctor showing I needed the service dog.he not only refused a service but he was so rude. Chose BU for my birthday dinner because the specials on the menu sounded amazing! I had the bacon wrapped sirloin with pork belly risotto and my girlfriend had the same. My steak was medium not med rare...We also found multiple toothpicks still in our steak from the bacon wrap and actually bit into them as they were left inside the steak. We pulled one full toothpick out and had about 5 others that we had to spit out. Showed them to our waiter and he didn't really seem too concerned and said he'd just let the kitchen know. Not a great birthday experience and won't be trying Bella for sometime again, especially with all the other wonderful choices in Jacksonville. read more

Just had a horrible and embarrassing experience here. I'm a veteran and have PTSD and went there with my small service dog. Was told that service animals were allowed but not "comfort" animals even though he is registered and on the front door it says service animals are allowed. He asked me what my dog was trained for and really made me feel on the spot. I've never been told that I can't have my little man with me since he is a registered service dog and we were sitting outside after all. Never been made to feel like my PTSD isn't a valid condition! I told them I'd leave and on the way out multiple people said they felt like I was being treated unfairly. Walked down the street to Jacksonville Inn and asked them up front and they said "absolutely no problem." Way kinder and more understanding there. Such a weird and embarrassing experience! Honestly, this quaint, small town restaurant was one of the reasons we moved to Jacksonville. Well, it's charm certainly helped. But that was 2003, and things have changed markedly since then. Prices seemed to have nearly doubled ($21 for a chicken breast?), and the service has simultaneously taken a dive. I really liked the atmosphere. We sat outside under a beautiful viny tree that spans a comfy patio with music and birds chirping. The staff was on top if everything and very courteous. My favorite part of Bella Union is their delicious burgers. Guarantee it will be hard to beat the flavor. This place is a true gem in this pleasant town. So this place has some charm that gets me back occasionally but the food is overpriced and underwhelming. Are there last night with my husband. Enjoyed their lovely outdoor seating (but they seriously need some misters). He ordered the rib special, which on its own would have merited 4 stars, unfortunately my meal ruined that. Ordered a pizza - half Mr. Jacksonville, half Pear Blossom. Toppings on the Mr. J were good but on the PB they actually used CANNED pears! First, that's just gross, 2nd this is Southern Oregon and its pear season! Unforgivable and not edible. Scraped them off and was left with a plain Canadian bacon pizza. Crust is bland and not worth the carbs and it's $20 for a 10" pizza. We had a nice time, but I likely won't be back for anything other than a beer or happy hour grub. read more

The service is always mediocre to poor when restaurant dining. Couple of the bartenders are cool tho. The food isn't that good for the prices. But what triggered my review is I went to have a drink with a friend at the bar, and saw two of the employees with very poor sanitary habits. Pandemic or no pandemic, I would still think this is nasty. The manager (red headed gal) cut up and ate pickles that were meant for customers with her hands, at the bar in front of all the bar customers. Then, instead of washing her hands, rubbed two of her fingers on one of the bar rags and moved on to touching other things in the bar area and making drinks. Also, the busser, guy with long beard, brought a plate of food behind the bar and was eating it in front of all the customers. Food kept dropping in his beard, he kept flicking it off and eating. When he was done, went straight to moving things around the bar, moving chairs around, then busing a table. After busing the table, he also rubbed a couple fingers on a bar rag then touched a bunch of other things in the bar area. Hand washing is very important, particularly after eating and putting your hands to your mouth, then touching things customers will put to their mouth. When I worked in a restaurant and bar, we were never allowed to eat in front of customers and we were always required to wash our hands with soap & water or use hand sanitizer. read more

Best strawberry lemonade!! Great chicken salad sandwich! Delicious vegetable soup--even worth eating when it's 100 degrees outside!! My mother had the potato salad and said that it was wonderful. The interior decor is nothing to write home about, but it was clean. The waitress was friendly and efficient. The menu was great.
