Saw a review earlier that some people came here after a hike but theirs wasn't too positive. We also came here after a hike, but our experience was apparently quite different. We simply ordered a soda and a Caldera seltzer (only had one flavor) and received them promptly along with waters. We ordered the garlic knots and opted to share a 14" Balzarini pizza. The menu said to give pizzas about 30 minutes and we were content to wait. We were sitting outside on their patio under the tree shade on a 70 degree day in March. No complaints. They were busy but not slammed. We didn't have to wait long for garlic knots and they are well proportioned. I enjoyed them, even if the minced garlic on top kept falling off as soon as you picked them up or tried to dunk them in marinara. I ended up just spooning the marinara on top. My only less than positive thought here was that the marinara flavor was off. I honestly felt as if it was possible that they had mixed in some salsa. It wasn't bad, just kind of strange. Anyway, the pizza came out in less than 30 minutes and had a good amount of toppings and seemed to be cooked just right. It was nice to have a slice a pizza that could hold up under all the toppings too (no offense to other styles out there, I just prefer a stronger crust because I like a lot of toppings..). It was a very good pizza! They even gave us a sturdy to go box for our leftovers. Our server was nice, fairly neutral without a leaning towards friendly or not friendly. He got his job done. And that was fine. I enjoyed sitting outside and even got up close with some resident birds. The building's history was interesting and I wish I would have explored more. I have been giving Bella union a chance for years. I keep trying because I love the ambience. But it's difficult to find anything to eat if you have a restricted diet. There are not many vegetarian or gluten-free options. I tried to order just a baked potato, but was told the bacon is mixed into it and prepared in the morning. My next option would be the zucchini noodles. They charge you three dollars extra for that option. I can go to the grocery store and buy three zucchini for the price of a box of pasta. Why the up charge? Bella union get with the times. Update your menu and diversify! read more

I had the best soup here today. Not just good soup, the best bowl of soup in my entire life. It was Smoked Salmon Corn Chowder, and could have been a recipe from Seinfeld's "soup nazi" episode. It was amazing. Now I have to consider moving here since I live 10 hours away. read more

Amount of food for the price + the lack of toppings makes me hesitant to even give 2 stars! Ordered the kid's snack board and received 2 crackers, 2 cucumbers, 2 orange slices and about half a package of shredded cheese! It was odd. Several of us ordered the calamari sandwich or salmon burger -- none of the sandwiches has more than 2 slices of avocado or tomatoes, some of us barely had any lettuce or were missing toppings all together. Sad and not worth $16-18/each. Side salads that came with the sandwiches were better than the entree! One person did order a salad with salmon on top as the entree and another ordered a French dip sandwich - both were reasonably sized and tasted good. Overall pretty disappointing $200 lunch today for 8 adults. With as many restaurants there are in Jacksonville and Medford, I'd go somewhere else next time. read more

Last night my husband and I ate at Bella Union. My husband ordered the shrimp and sausage linguine. I ordered the chicken Parmesan as our waitress said it was definitely the best we enjoyed our salads then when our dinners arrived by a different server. After my first bite of my chicken Parmesan, I noticed a really off taste. I tried a couple more bites and it kept getting stronger and I noticed it was kind of tough to cut through so I turned my chicken over to find it was black really burnt on the other side. I spent the next 10 minutes or so trying to cut off the burnt stuff and eat around it but it had a horrible taste. so the spaghetti underneath didn't really have any sauce on it so I was trying to scrape some sauce on it to enjoy that and the zucchini, that came with it I took a bite of them before I even tried the chicken and they were semi cold. The waitress never came around for quite a while, and when she finally did, my husband was halfway done with his dinner, and he enjoyed his by the way. I told the waitress that mine was burnt. She didn't offer to refill our waters. I did offer to replace my chicken Parmesan and I told her that it was too late, if she would come around within the first five or 10 minutes I probably would've done that but I didn't wanna wait any longer. The regular menu is great, but I do not recommend going to a holiday meal there. It gets very chaotic. I don't know who their regular bartender is but every time I've been there the drinks have been exceptional. Not too sweet, not overly strong. The location of the Bella Union in downtown Jacksonville is charming; however, the food is just ordinary in taste like most of the restaurants in the Rogue Valley at the current time. I can't understand this because we have excellent groceries (meat, vegetables, and fruit) available but we don't seem to attract good chefs. Very odd phenomenon at the current time. I sincerely hope it changes. The servers were warm, kind, and well intentioned but not well-trained. My cousins and I went in Saturday night for some drinks. We were seated at the table right in front of the stage in the bar. We got drinks , everything was going great we were having a fun time when all of a sudden the singer Nick Verbally harassed us , saying that we were too loud and he could not play his music . He was very rude about it and went on on the microphone so the whole bar heard . The entire bar was loud and talking so we were in shock when he said what he said. The table next to us told us to be louder because what he said and did was uncalled for. They ended up leaving. A group of people at the bar also stopped us outside the Bella Union and expressed how out of line the singer was. It was very uncalled for and made us feel uncomfortable. read more

my wife and daughter and I had lunch today. the waitress was great and she doubled duty as the bartender and made me a great margarita service was excellent! But omy God, I ordered a medium rare burger and they asked me how I wanted it, it came back over cooked well done!!! zero juice in the burger! worst burger I've had in years! cook disappointed. I just had to write this review. I had been to Bella Union for drinks a few years ago and things were good. My new wife had never been there but had heard good things about Bella Union. Tonight we made the trip to Jacksonville and Bella Union. The drink was ok and the waiter was a young man with a smile. However the food was very disappointing. My wife's pasta was stuck together and hard in places. Maybe not cooked enough. The chicken fettuccini was really bad. I could not eat the food that was served. With a bill of $70 I expected better. Having recently relocated to the area, my husband and I like to try local restaurants for our weekly "pizza night". We were led past a band to a beautiful patio area with trellises and twinkle lights giving the area a fun vibe. We also enjoyed a cooling fan which helped on this hot evening. Service was great even though they were short-staffed. Fresh bread with a VERY strong garlic butter came first. Pizza was pricey and not "the same ol' thing". Salads were a perfect size. Sitting under the 100yr old wisteria is amazing in itself, add all the shade loving plants and yard art. You have the making of a secret garden. It's a great place to grab a bite of lunch or a romantic dinner out. They have a full bar and a great selection on their menu.Gourmet pizza, steaks and pasta dishes. Applegater Gluten free pizza is one of our favorites. Don't forget a Caesar salad without croutons, and the flourless chocolate cake for a full Gluten free meal. Christian had set us up in one of the small rooms that fit our whole party and Maya was our waitress. Dinning with flies is not what we expected at the Bella Union. We have eaten here many times in the past and have always had an enjoyable meal with a pleasant atmosphere. Last nights experience was a disappointment. The dining room we were seated in had what I would call a fly infestation, not just one here and there but one after another one after another one and more. Maybe a thorough cleaning of that specific dining room would help. We will return on a later date because the food they serve is delicious and hopefully not be dinning with flies. read more
