Bella Union is a big favorite in the valley, and our dinner with friends this week was very good. We gathered in the bar for a drink before dinner, and were seated and served promptly. I enjoyed my pork chop sauced with local blue cheese, but I usually have one of their outstanding fish dinners - they serve both steelhead and rockfish very well. Dinning with flies is not what we expected at the Bella Union. We have eaten here many times in the past and have always had an enjoyable meal with a pleasant atmosphere. Last nights experience was a disappointment. The dining room we were seated in had what I would call a fly infestation, not just one here and there but one after another one after another one and more. Maybe a thorough cleaning of that specific dining room would help. We will return on a later date because the food they serve is delicious and hopefully not be dinning with flies. read more

A few weeks ago we went to Bella Union to celebrate our anniversary with our relatives and a few friends and I must say everyone was so accommodating. Christian had set us up in one of the small rooms that fit our whole party and Maya was our waitress. She went above and beyond to serve us and even asked the chef to make the chicken piccata that I just love. Everything was perfect and made us feel so special. We came to this restaurant as a group of 10 because we were recommended due to the nice ambiance of dining outside. The tree in the outdoor area was really nice and it was set up in such a magnificent way, except the hostess wouldn't let us sit there. It was really disappointment because she said only groups of 4 or less. We asked if we could split up, but for some reason that never happened even though there was plenty of empty tables (we came super early). So instead we sat on the deck area, which was not so nice. It started to rain and they had a retractable roof, that they pulled down which resulted in lots of leaves falling on my sister in law. The people working here are really nice and very friendly, but the food was overpriced for what it was. The food wasn't very good. It was really disappointment. I had pasta, my husband had a sausage type thing. The pizza was ok. The kids meals were normal kids meals. If you are coming here for the food, don't come. If you are coming for the ambiance, then come in a group of less than 4. :) read more

Mediocre food. Hot inside. Cramped. A bit pricey for what you get. Not impressed. Service was pretty good though.

There's nothing quite as cozy as a bowl of clam chowder on a chily day, - or any day for that matter. Every spoonful was loaded with clams, and the chowder was exquisitely seasoned, spiked with bacon, and full of tender potatoes. Kudos to the Belle Union, her cooks, and waitstaff. Went there twice last week. Food is decent (not an American Italian food person) so the first night I had my pasta swimming in white sauce. The second night we were going to the Mexican place but the person on the phone had no clue how to do reservations. I ordered food that was better for me at Bella Union the second night. read more

Like others, we also stopped in Bella Union after a beautiful hike in the Medford Oregon area. It was around 6:30PM. We were surprised the dining room was empty. We were initially seated at a very wobbly table. When we asked to move, the hostess seemed a bit irritated with us. However, the waiter was very friendly and had great energy. There was loud 90's alternative music coming from the bar area. It was a little loud for the dining room, but we like Alice In Chains and Nirvana, so no big deal. Our food was decent. The lasagna was 7/10 stars. The presentation of the chicken fettuccine was amazing, but the taste blah. The chicken wasn't fresh and had a rough texture. The bread we received wasn't fresh or warm. I wouldn't mind giving this place another try next time we're in town, but I will definitely try a different entree. read more

My friend and I were having a wonderful visit in Jacksonville. Adorable little historic town. We went to Bella Union for dinner one night. The atmosphere was great and the servers were amazing - polite, professional and fun. I asked a server about a Mediterranean salmon dish over linguine and he highly recommended it. It came with a Caesar salad which was delicious but had so much garlic it burned! Haha! Fortunately, I loved it and, this being October, I had no fear of vampires attacking me for a few days. The Salmon dish, sadly, was bland - with feta cheese, olive oil, and garlic I thought it would be amazing but it wasn't. I don't know if they didn't fully drain the pasta or what but even with lots of salt, pepper, and even some of my friends sauce, nothing helped it. Parts of the salmon were fresh, but parts were very fishy. Big disappointment. We didn't try any beverages or dessert. They did have entertainment which was a fun option. read more

Unfortunately disappointed again. Went there once before and wasn't too happy with the food flavor. Decided to give it another chance and was equally disappointed in the food and price for the food. Ordered a pastrami sandwich that didn't have much flavor and ordered French onion soup as a side. The soup came topped with 3 (store bought out of a bag) croutons and tasted like chopped onions in onion soup mix. Not impressive at all the sand which looked good but NO flavor. I paid $15.00 dollars for that. Not worth price. Atmosphere is good and staff was very pleasant but the food is lacking and way too high of price for that kind of quality. My friend ordered eggs Benedict Brunch and was very disappointed in the over cooked eggs and flavorless meal as well. read more

My daughter took me out for a birthday treat. On what's typically a "slow night" for restaurants (Monday), the food and drinks were surprisingly tasty. Our waiter, Eric, was cordial and attentive, and we lucked out with a quiet corner booth. The only drawback were the cloth napkins, which had the absorbency of stiff, scratchy curtains. I live locally and have noticed that this dining establishment has really "upped its' game" in the last year. The food and service (get a seat at the bar if you can) are exceptional. This is one of the better restaurants in town. Their Pork Steak, Ribeye and seafood entrees are always quite good. They are not high-end, they are not anything pretentious, but, rather, they tend to have an upper blue-collar approach to consistently really good food. Then watched 3 other tables seated and served before our orders were taken. Had dinner last night on the patio. As always the atmosphere and the waite staff was wonderful. But the dinner .. . what a disappointment! I had the special: "Fresh Petrale Sole stuffed with bay shrimp etc. oven baked in a white wine butter sauce." What I received had obviously been frozen and reheated. The fish was mushy and the sauce was like water. The dish had absolutely no flavor. I did mention it to the waiter and he offered to get me something else but that's just not my style. I probably ate 2 bites of the fish, the pasta and veg which was squished on the plate under the bowl that they had served the fish in was not too appetizing. I did end up eating all of my Ceasar salad which was very good. We go there often and will continue to go but this diner was a big zero at $28.00! read more

Bella is a great choice to go to in the Rogue valley. The specials are alway wonderful, the Cesar salad is great as is their house salad, pizzas and pasta. Have yet to find something I don't like. The cocktails are well made and they have a good beer and wine selection. Not often but when I have room the desserts are amazing. The service is always friendly and attentive. Don't use their catering service. They don't show up. When they do the food and presentation is very good. We've used them for monthly professional Board meetings. Since January they didn't show up 2x, even though they have our annual schedule. This is unacceptable. If we cancel on them without 72 hour notice we have to pay anyway. I should send them a bill for the two catering events they just didn't show up for. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with Bella Union Catering. read more

We dined at Bella Union on a busy Saturday evening. We ate on the porch, which was really lovely. Inside seemed pretty loud, so I was happy to be seated outdoors. Even though the temperature was in the 90s outside, the patio is plant-covered so it felt cooler. Our server was attentive the whole evening and food was served quite promptly, especially considering how busy they were. We started with the sautéed mushrooms. They were really tasty, and the bread was so good dipped in the sauce. The Caesar salad was good, but I felt there was a little too much Parmesan over top. For an entree, I ordered the Prime Rib of Pork special. It came with veggies and potatoes. I really enjoyed the entree, but felt the cut of meat was quite fatty, so there wasn't actually much meat. Besides the specials, the menu is almost entirely pizza and pasta dishes. I was expecting slightly more meat variety, maybe a steak dish or chicken other than chicken Parmesan. If there wasn't a specials menu, there really would not have been much variety. Perhaps since I hadn't really researched, I had unrealistic expectations. Overall delicious, and I'll be back when I'm in the mood for pizza or pasta. read more

Freedom-loving restaurant. Highly recommended. We expected a wait on a Saturday night, but the wait was only about 30 min. Our server had a great personality, and was very accommodating. We had lasagna, which is honestly some of the best we've ever had. The sauce was meaty and had a delicious roasted pepper flavor. The filling was so cheesy! We also had a house salad which was huge and so fresh. For dessert we had creme brûlé and a Spanish coffee. The creme brûlée had a great flavor but was a little chewy on the bottom (not cooked quite right.). The Spanish coffee was like a Mexican mocha with rum. It was a little pricy but a delicious new experience. We definitely will eat here again. They have great food and are striving to offer great service to their customers. read more

Always a fun place to visit in Jacksonville. Historically significant building in a town originally developed based on a gold discovery. Pretty architecture all around reflecting the original look of the town. The Bella Union has an excellent menu with lots of choices. There are two different dining areas plus a full bar area and an outdoor patio. Good selection of area beers and wines along with the usual mixed drinks. Been here several times over several years and have never been disappointed with the food or service. It can get busy as it is fairly famous in a tourist town. read more

Visiting friends and popped in for dinner on the amazing patio on a summer evening. We asked about the wisteria overhead, whose vines are more like tree trunks, and we learned that it's about 100 years old and so heavy that a steel structure was built to support it. The white mini lights among the wisteria definitely create a mood. I ordered the steelhead, bc you will never find that in my home state of Michigan. It was tender and flavorful, but was drowning in the sweet brown sugar mustard glaze. Too sweet. The star of our group's entrees was the pear blossom pizza - a magnificent combination of tastes, where the gently glazed pear muted the usually strong flavor of the bleu cheese. Oh my.
