First time at this place and all I can say is make your reservation by phone and ask if any events are happening. I made a 3:15 reservation and when we got there a bridal shower was in full swing and they had the entire restaurant. The staff set up a table for us and said the shower would wrap up in about 15 minutes and it was very loud. Then they were having a second event which was a high school rock band, yay. Not the best dinning experience although what we ordered was good. This is not an inexpensive restaurant and I think we should have been compt something for our inconvenience. The service was excellent as it was our first time, we were guided through the process of how to drink it. If you have never had it, be prepared for a really strong kick of black licorice. Sucked! I was excited to try this place and the menu looked good. But they charged us a $10 cover for a 7 pm reservation. Only to find out after we were there eating in silence that the music doesn't start til 8. And when I told the server that I thought it was unfair we were charged a cover when the music started an hour after our reservation he removed the charge from our bill but was a total dick the rest of the night and we heard him talking shit about us to the bartender. We had a first time visit to Belle Epoque, where we immediately received a professional, warm greeting by Seth, and were seated without delay. The room was beautiful, with its relaxing lighting and decor. While the wine list was minimal, there were ample listings. (We found out from Seth that there were available wines not yet listed on the wine list.) The creative French/Cuban menu had exiting selections to choose from. The food? We had the beer battered Cuban fish and chips with plantains. Delicious. ! By chance we luckily attended on a night when South Bay's popular musician Tom Bellizia was performing. ( Tom was for many years the musician for Palos Verdes' upscale Admiral Risty ocean view restaurant until its closing.) As has been typical for Tom's music for decades, the dance floor was well used. All considered, it was a wonderfully enjoyable evening, the first of what we plan will be many. A Five-Star restaurant, with a much in demand Five-Star musician can't be beaten! Beautiful new restaurant, decorated very whimsically, reminds me of both Paris and Morocco. We enjoyed the chimi chicken, flank steak, ceviche and shrimp cocktail..all excellent! Our first two rounds of cocktails were amazing as well: the Diablo, a spicy tequila based drink, two champagne drinks: a Kir royal and the Bella epoch. More on that in a minute. Live music started at 8:30 pm, we had 7:30 pm dinner reservations and were still eating when we were told we'd have to pay a $10 fee each if we stayed for the entertainment, even though we had not yet been served our entrees. We had already spent $200 on dinner at this point, and were not told about this fee ahead of time so I did express to one of the owners that we were a bit miffed to be asked to pay extra to stay, so she did waive the fee as well as comped us the second round of cocktails which was appreciated. All would have been great except we made the mistake of ordering another round of the same drinks and staying for the music. That round of drinks-the exact ones we'd been drinking and were familiar with--contained NO ALCOHOL!! All three of us were baffled, why did they do this? We can only surmise that we were being punished for staying since we had balked at the ticket fee. Our bill also contained two errors as it included a bottle of wine and another cocktail we did not order, so we had to correct that. Anyway we paid our bill, including the $60+ for the three non-alcoholic drinks, and left. It was a nice place and otherwise it was a nice evening. read more

The service was lousy. The drinks are way over priced. The food was cold and bland. It said cilantro rice it was regular rice I even asked the waiter to repeat the ingredients of the dish, and he said cilantro rice. Evidently he was mistaken. My food was cold, and I asked for it to be heated back up. it came microwaved and dry. The comedy was the worst. We left after 10 minutes. Where did they get these comedians? Is it a joke?
