Don and I started with the NE clam chowder and it was very tasty. For our main lunches I had a nice Cobb salad. JoAnn ordered the chicken Milanese and it came with a big slab of lightly breaded crispy chicken covered with a fresh salad (I should have ordered that!). We have guests visiting from out of town, and everyone was starving for brunch this morning, so I decided to rally the troops and take them too Belle's. It was definitely the right decision, and everyone loved it! Belle's is a counter-service restaurant, but with gourmet food. They have everything from breakfast sandwiches elevated to the nth degree with thick cut ham to a "daily catch", either prepared on a salad or a sandwich with a fresh brioche bun and slaw. Heavenly! There were four of us, and we got a croissant breakfast sandwich, a tuna melt, a "daily catch" seared tuna sandwich, and a poached eggs breakfast platter. I also got an iced tea, and others got bottled drinks from the ample selection in the case. They gave us a buzzer after we paid at the counter, and our food was ready in record time! Kudos to the kitchen staff- everything was delicious and prepared perfectly. I especially loved the poached eggs I had; it can be difficult to do a good poached egg, but Belle's has it down to a science! The only downside was the prices. Even though we did order one "daily catch" entree, which was reasonable at $18, the bill came to around $72 for everything. And we got tuna/egg sandwiches, poached eggs, and sodas. It was a little expensive :/ We took a seat at a picnic table under a beautiful awning, and watched the boats go by on a perfect August morning. We were lodging at the Gurney's resort just across the bridge on Goat Island, which provided us easy walk over to Belle's Cafe for breakfast lunch or dinner. This restaurant is located in a quite large shipyard that has a few sizable beautiful Yachts to view. The restaurant is set back from the street along the dockside and provides both outdoor in indoor dining. For lunch, we decide to upon the lobster roll and their Clam Chowder, which were both delicious. Their staff was friendly, accommodating, and quite attentive. We returned the following day for breakfast to have their buttermilk pancakes and Portuguese-style Azores Omelet that we heard so much about. This was our first stop in Newport for Labor Day Weekend. We did not make a reservation but we arrived at 1 pm and they were able to seat us outside. Tables were clean and we sat under a shaded umbrella so we felt great on such a hot day! To die for: the crab cake Benedict. Seasoned really well and cooked so great it didn't fall apart when I cut through to grab egg and crab. The potatoes that came with the dish were classic and great as well. Plus they also gave a nice surprise of fruit, which was great to finish off the dish. Fiancé got the lobster rolls and he loved it as well. Buttered enough to taste the lobster and the potato bread was really well toasted. The macaroni said it came with was delicious and loved that it had pieces of olives inside (no seed!).
