Heard about the opening of Belo from the lovely staff and owner of The Alcove, which is right down the block. I was was looking for this on Yelp from the time we were mid-meal, wanting to leave a review right then and there, but they weren't up yet. I'd been checking back daily since, that's how wonderful of an experience we had. My husband and I attended the soft opening and we were so amazed with the excellent food and service. This is such a nice little spot with a great menu! Bryan, our server was so sweet, and the owner was so friendly, coming around and personally checking on the tables. His smile, laughter, and general joy was absolutely infectious. I didn't really know what to expect food wise, I was just told it would be Brazilian and saw the sign say BBQ the day before the opening. My husband and I are both recovering from surgeries and in wheelchairs, which of course, can be an inconvenience when trying to dine out. The staff was so accommodating, friendly, and extremely helpful, making sure we were comfortable and had more than enough space. Now let's talk food! I had the chicken stroganoff which was so flavorful, juicy, and as someone who doesn't really love fried eggs with a runny yolk, I wanted to have the full experience and when mixed together... I have to say, I loved it! The little potato straws added a fun crunchy texture and was the little detail that actually really completed the dish. My husband had the steak (I forget the name of the actual dish now) which came topped with caramelized onions, rice, beans, a parmesan and or garlic crusty topping and a tomato and onion salsa. We also ordered a side of fries. I really wish I knew what that crusted topping actually was because I ended up adding it to my dish and the fries and it was INCREDIBLE. The steak was cooked so incredibly and came out still sizzling and with the caramelized onions calling my name, I had to steal some. The rice and beans were fluffy, flavorful, and he loved that everything was separated so you could have mixed and matched how you wanted your meal. The food was so filling, the portions were perfect. I felt full before finishing but it was so good, I couldn't stop myself from finishing. The presentation is also really wonderful. My partner wanted to visit this because she had a craving for the large churrasco skewers platter which is a ton of meat for two people. (It's actually suggested for four people but they said it was doable if we were REALLY hungry.) I only had a late breakfast and we spent the whole day working on the house, so we definitely needed the food. Even though it takes 25 minutes, it really flew by because we also ordered an appetizer, the pão de queijo (cheese bread), and that came out fast. Soon after we finished it, the skewers were already ready. (We also ordered around 5 pm, so the early hour might've helped. There were only two other people in the restaurant when we sat down.) The pão de quiejo was excellent, but the platter was definitely everything we hoped for. If you really love your meat, this is the one to get. The fried cheese and caramelized pineapple that came with it is also terrific. (The best thing about the large platter is you get it all, you don't have to pick and choose.) We finished it, but just barely, so I would definitely recommend bringing a group of four, maybe three, if you're planning on getting the large platter. read more

We did take out when Belo first opened and I wasn't impressed but my husband kept reading all the rave reviews so we decided to give it another try for brunch...even less impressed. Our server was very sweet and attentive but the food was just ok. I had the steak and eggs. The steak was grizzly, the home fries bland and the toast tasted like defrosted supermarket Texas toast. The drink was the worst part of my meal. I couldn't tell you what the pina colada was made with but it certainly was not rum. It was served at room temp with barely a splash of coconut milk and was mostly watered down pineapple juice. I should have cancelled the drink order when I saw the bartender and server taste testing his second attempt at making one but I was stupid. It was definitely not worth the trip or the cost and we won't be trying it again. read more

This place was a recommendation from some local friends. Tried it out as a night cap for a few drinks. They have a bar with beer and wine, they have cocktails but no liquor. They have wine-liquors. These are basically less alcoholic content versions of the actual liquors that you would order normally. The cocktails are actually really good. I'm a huge fan of their food so far I've tried a bunch of appetizers and a dessert assortment plate of delicious home made pastries. This is now one of my places I love to stop by for at least a few drinks and some food. The staff is extremely nice and attentive. I have been living in Sunnyside for 9 years and I am always down to explore local businesses. So I heard about this place and gave a shot on a Saturday. From the moment we walked in till the end it was a great experience. I had the pork shoulder and my friend had the salmon. We were both satisfied . We got the sliders as an appetizer and guess what; that was great too!!! Our server Ali made sure that we were doing okay . He checked on us couple times. Food and service were great!!! Been going to the awesome Alcove around the corner and was really happy that Belo was finally able to open. The first nice thing is that there is not a lot of overlap -- you can eat at Alcove on Friday and have something completely different at Belo on Saturday. The one constant is the amazing people running both places. Jonathan, Spencer, Raul and all of the servers make coming to either place a real treat. The food at Belo is a home run. Everything I've tried has been very good or excellent. I haven't worked my way through everything yet, but please do try the ribs, the chicken bites, chicharro, steak with rice and beans, fish stew, chicken stroganoff and feijoada -- sort of a Brazilian cassoulet. So I finally got a chance to stop in a Belo last night and let me tell you this is something sunnyside needed. Authentic Brazilian food that hits you with great flavor and a great ambiance. I had a group of 4 so we tried a little of everything. For appetizer we had the frango a passarinho, Pao de queijo, mini salgados basket, torresmo de barriga. All of these appetizers were so bomb we all had a second dose of the torresmo de barriga just because they were so good, I think the sliced pineapple with the sauce made it extra tasty. For the main course we kind of shared a few plates because it was so much food. We had feijoada, chicken strogonoff, stuffed burger. I'll start with the chicken strogonoff, I ordered this because I saw the owner in the back eating this and let me tell you, the creamy mushroom amd cognac sauce was off the charts. I wish I could bath in it The Feijoada was good without adding the extra ingredients but when I asked the owner about the ingredients, he showed me how to include in the dish and WOW what a difference. All I got to say is make sure you use all the ingredients you won't be disappointed. I did not try the stuffed burger but from what my brother in law said it was really good and flavorful. I guess I will try that next time. We also had dessert at the end and just like the rest of the meal it did not disappoint. We had the cocada coconut creme brulee and the passion fruit mousse topped with chocolate granach and almond praline both were excellent but I enjoyed the cocada more just because I love coconut I hope my review helps a lot of you guys. Ok again, I wish yelp would have a 2 part rating system because restaurant /bars need one. So here is my own. Part one: Food is horrible and the burnt smell coming from the kitchen should been my first clue not to order. We ordered the fried chicken appetizer which consists of few bony bits of chicken overly fried for $14.00. For the main we split the picanha which had no flavor and was over cooked. Rest of menu was pretty boring. Part two: Drinks, atmosphere and service. All of these were on point and that's why you should come here. Service was fast, caring and easily flowing. But now let me tell you about these drinks! The Flights, amazing! I personally recommend the Acai and Passion Fruit Sakerinha. I also had the Berry Interest, and let me say I'm glad to have drinks that get you lit bit don't weigh you down. Absolutely delicious Brazilian food, you have to go hungry and with comfortable pants because the portions are HUGE and you will want to keep eating.
