We look forward to our Rockport trips even more since discovering this place. It's not fair to Benchwarmers, but we usually only order from the Hu Dat side of the menu. We were big fans of hu dat so when we heard the family opened up this restaurant we were very excited to try it! It didn't disappoint! The food was so good- not greasy for American Chinese food. They have a ton of variety here including Vietnamese food and American food. It's a fun addition to the new Rockport. There was a little bit of a wait but it was a Friday night and the wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. This was our first visit to Benchwarmer's and it was good. The wings had a good flavor and the side salad was really fresh. The fish tacos were good, but could have used some hot sauce. The BLT was very good. The bacon was made just right. I got to try the Mango Habanero wings and I'll say the sauce is more sweet than hot. The service was good. read more

Aluminum trays are so icky to eat off of. My teeth hurt just looking at them. They are my biggest pet peeve! All my Pho noodles were stuck together. Almost impossible to separate. The meat was also stuck tightly together, making it impossible to get apart with out splashing the oily broth all over the place. It was bland. These folks do not understand the finer points of pho!!!!! And they are so very slow. It was an hour before we were given our meals. Do not order anything Asian here. Yuk. Yes I might be a snob but Seattle has a rocking Asian scene. We have had the best. If you are going to serve it, train your cooks! Had food here a couple of times and had Fish served a different way each time (blackened and fried) and it was always dry and tasteless. The cocktail sauce was nearly frozen and I couldn't dip anything in it. The hushpuppies were pretty good but they felt like they were sitting out for awhile before they got to me. I will say the service is always friendly enough, but they need to learn how to cook fish properly. My self, my wife, her nephew and his wife. All ordered Chinese dishes. All dishes were bland at best, I and my wife's nephew used lots of soy sauce to give it some flavor. The best part of our meals was the broccoli which obsorbed lots of soy sauce for some flavor. This was called The Happy Meal. My wife ordered the Orange Chicken, once again bland only lukewarm and was super thin strips of what was supposed to be chicken. l tried a piece and it was like eating a piece of cardboard from a shoebox. My wife asked for a manager but no one ever came. I guess they don't like complaints. If you want better Chinese food, I suggest the mall quick eateries. A significant improvement. One last thing, what was supposed to be Fried Rice was nothing more than yellow rice in a bowl. read more

Their menu is great in that it can be divided into three types - bar food (wings, burgers, and meals), Vietnamese (love the Bun Salad and Pho), and Chinese/Asian (more typical "Chinese food"). So it's a great place to go when you have lots of different tastes to satisfy in your party. Great beers on tap, too. Don't forget dessert - ask if they have cheesecake (made local)!! Service is great but there is often a wait for a table and for food because it's fresh! Sometimes they sell out of popular items but don't despair...take the opportunity to try something new to you! One of the best experiences I have had at a restaurant. We went on a busy Saturday and they told us 35 min wait. We only waited about ten. They were super accommodating of our young kid and we're very communicative about wait times for seating, food, drinks. We will definitely be visiting each time we are in town. **I work in a restaurant and have for over 10 years... I know what health code a restaurant should meet, this one does not meet code** If you HAVE to go here, the sushi is the only safe bet. We came here based on the other reviews and unfortunately we were highly highly disappointed. We were sat at a table that had a direct view into the kitchen through the window that the food comes out of. Oh my. We sat and watched the cooks and the waitstaff for over 30 min waiting on our food. Not a single cook wore gloves. Not only were they not wearing gloves, they were touching their faces, wiping on a gross towel and then making hamburger parties bare handed. We watched one cook drop his spatula on the the ground and then picked it up and used it. What the heck! Why would you have your cooks not use gloves and be so gross if their is a window into the kitchen?? We reluctantly still ate because we ordered fried food and figured, well hopefully it'll kill the germs. Our food was blah. Bland. Nothing special. Edible? Sure. Good? No. The only thing that was good was the sushi. We had the Hu Dat sushi appetizer and that was really good. And we can't see the sushi chef so let's just hope they had gloves on. Also the servers were just eating behind the bar while working. Straight up licking their fingers and then serving food. One girl who we think is a manager, was eating, licking her fingers and then poring beer and putting the orange on the beer with the same fingers she just licked. I get it that gross things are going to happen, but come on! I can't believe we actually ate our food after seeing everything. We honestly didn't even finish our food because it just wasn't worth it. Our server said that it was her second day and didn't know much of anything. Which is weird. It's your second day but you aren't in any training? We had a party of 7 and we had a service charge on the bottom of the ticket and I asked her about it and she didn't know. She said It might be gratuity. Ok , no where on the menu does it say automatic gratuity on a certain number of people. That has to be on the menu. The server didn't even deserve the 18% gratuity, she left us without drinks, didn't offer dessert, we waited forever for food, checks, and to leave. Again, she said it was her second day. The owners need to train better. Even if you are a new restaurant. Don't open until you're ready. And this place is not ready. read more

Food and service were excellent. The atmosphere was great and the menu was phenomenal.

We used to go to HuDats before Harvey and now that they have reopened as part of Benchwarmers, we decided to give it a try. Service was excellent. We enjoyed the pot stickers as an appetizer, however we were not thrilled with the sweet-n-sour chicken. The chicken pieces were very small and after frying some were very hard with little to no chicken in them. We don't recall this being the case before. We found it and when we arrived we went into the Benchwarmers entrance. Turns out one side of the menu was for Benchwarmers and the other for Hu Dat, but you order off of either. Rockport/Fulton's sports bar with sushi and burgers!? Why not? This place has a sports bar feel, with sports on every television, on every wall. They're constantly showing a few different games simultaneously. You're not going to miss a single shot or replay in this place. The menu is a strange mashup of burgers and sushi, on two different menus. The mix up works! I ended up getting the banh mi sandwich, made with pork fresh veggies on a french roll. It was served with sliced jalapenos artistically spread across the plate. We also got sweet potato fries, which are delivered in a little fry basket. I've never seen fries delivered like that, and have to wonder if this little fry basket is really what they're putting in the fryer? It doesn't look like it. The food was good, but it needed some kind of dipping sauce or something to go with the fries. We just had the option of generic ketchup, and some sort of aioli or sauce would have been nice. The service was great- the staff really did a great job making sure that the food was good, that the drinks were filled, and even made some recommendations. The restaurant was clean. The restroom has 'inspirational' sports quotes posted on the men's room wall. Parking is easy- there's a city owned lot across the street that you can park at for free.
