I am not a Benefit virgin anymore. After hearing so many wonderful things about their products and reading the raving reviews of Brett D. and Angie M. I was in danger and had already partly lost my innocence. I was planning my trip to one of their boutiques for next week when Sarah L. joined the chorus of temptresses with her review for Elle.......... A gal only has a limited amount of will-power. And mine, I have to admit, is pretty weak lately..... So I plunged. And it was divine! As soon as Elle's existence was brought to my attention I booked an appointment for later on that day and waited in anticipation. And what one says about first times is not true: she did not disappoint. My brows are perfectly shaped, they are thick and luscious, so nice. And it cannot be emphasized enough: For $20 you get a makeup session too!!!! That is just incredible. But true. And divine. I am lost to Benefit now. And it is all your fault. read more

NEVER. AGAIN. Let's be real. I should have known better than to go somewhere I didn't know the aesthetician. My mistake. But it was in MACY'S. It was by BENEFIT. In all my naivete, I thought, how bad could it be? The good news? My eyebrows will grow back. Eventually. The bad? Til they do, I'm going to have to basically re-draw them in. I *hate* thin brows. Nothing looks worse on me and they make me shudder. Literally. Weird, I know. I impressed this upon my brow "artist", someone named Vanessa, and she assured me about five hundred times that "Benefit loves a full eyebrow! So don't worry!" Her own brows were drawn in a fair bit, but I attributed that to her blondness - as in, it didn't look like you'd be able to see much them without some color drawn in. She walked me through what she meant to do, and I said okay. And off we went. As soon as she held up the mirror to show me my left eyebrow I knew we were in trouble. Not only had she basically done away entirely with the arch, she'd waxed them into a THIN line - something I very specifically did not want to happen. In fact, my words were "please clean them up a bit and leave the shape". NO LUCK! Of course, I couldn't very well leave the other eyebrow looking awesome (if a bit hairy) so she had to do that one too. Now I have two horrible looking, super-thin brows, and if that's not bad enough on its own, THEY'RE NOT EVEN. The right brow almost makes a hook shape... real sexy, ladies. Not at ALL drag-queen-y. Just to put the icing on the cake, the assistant ringing me out INSISTED on a tip. Now, I'm all about the tipping, especially when the service has been great, but there was NO WAY I was planning to tip for this. It got awkward. In short? RUN AWAY from the Benefit Brow Bar, at least here. It was horrifying and I wish I could undo it. read more

Very poor customer service, sat awhile waiting to see about an appointment while one worker cleaned up her work space two hours prior to closing. I asked if they were closing, she coldly stated "nope but I'm done for the day", she didn't offer any information about possibly seeing another employee or assist in making a future appointment, nothing, she just continued throwing her things into a bag and spraying as if I was a nuisance to her, I would never return to this location. read more

On the afternoon of Saturday August 24th, when I went in for a chin wax at the Benefits Bar Macy's on State location. When I first approached the young woman working the counter, she seemed irritated that I interrupted whatever she was doing. There was noone there being serviced. She explained that she was expecting a scheduled client and that there was also a walk-in client ahead of me. I said "No problem" and sat down to wait. Further irritation flashed across her face. But--she signed me up and I waited. After a few minutes neither of the aforementioned clients showed up and she began my chin wax. Her service delivery was as stank as her attitude. She applied the wax and then just ripped the strips off--without applying pressure to soften the sting. Even though I winched each time, she just kept on snatching off the strips. I couldn't tell if she was simply incompetent, insensitive or both. At the end of the snatching, I was given the mirror to look at the work. I pointed out two visible hairs. One she said was ingrown and that she couldn't dig into my skin to get it. I pointed out that the hair was visible and could be easily removed. She easily removed it with tweezers. The other SINGLE HAIR was on my neck. She told me that she'd go on and tweeze it but that the service I was receiving was "a chin wax, not a neck wax." I was livid! It was a SINGLE HAIR--yet she was too inept to realize that removing the hair without commentary would have resulted in a much more favorable customer experience--and positive customer retention and loyalty. When she finished she didn't even offer the touch up my face where makeup had been removed during the services. If I could, I'd rate her the zero that she deserves . And--if this wasn't the weekend--I'd be contacting the corporate office in San Francisco to register my complaint. When I patronize a business, I expect courteous, caring and professional service. What I received from this individual was FAR below the standard. It's inconceivable that anyone would think--in this day and age--that they can engage a customer in this manner without repercussions. This was my first and last encounter with this particular Beauty Consultant. The other consultants who have provided services at this location have been highly skilled and highly professional. Maybe the last girl was just a bad hire. read more

Look no more - I have found the ultimate brow expert! Her name is Pamela and she is the eyebrow master. Thanks to Pamela, my eyebrows are looking the best they have ever looked. People compliment me all the time on the shape of my eyebrows now. She is so knowledgeable, and so easy to communicate with. I always learn new makeup tips from her too. I came in just wanting my lip waxed and after Laura asked if I'd like my eyebrows cleaned, I decided to give her a chance with my brows. I was once hooked on Benefit Brow Bar at the Southport location. There, I had a rotation of ladies in charge of my brows, but slowly one by one, they left and moved on. I did too by going to Trim on Lincoln...until a recent visit to this Benefit. I did some errands around the area on a late Saturday afternoon and was very much in the need for some brow lovin'. I stopped by the counter just to see what kind of schedule they had the rest of the day and weekend. I was able to score an appointment with Indira. Before I had a chance to explain how I like my brows, she took one look at them and told me how she'd like them to look, all of what I was going to say. The appointment took probably no more than 15 minutes: waxing, a little tweezing, and touching up with some brow gel. That's the kind of appointment I like. At $20, it was a pricy reminder of what I used to pay when I'd go to the other location. But they're way better than the nearby Lancome brow station, who have been dead to me since 2008. PS: They also do tanning and other services that they do at their Benefit Boutiques. I didn't get any other services done that day but saw some rooms off to the side. read more

What I ended up with are two VASTLY uneven eyebrows and choppy cuts in each. I stopped by here on a whim a few weeks ago as I wandered through the Macy's makeup counters on a break. My brows needed a taming and the wait was only 10 minutes! I can't remember the name of the woman who ended up waxing my brows. She was very nice and chatty and the experience was relatively painless (especially given that I'm used to threading and so rarely go for a wax) and I left with very little redness. They asked if I wanted my makeup touched up after and gave me quick little makeover and a tour of some Benefit products. Fun! Why only three stars? Well, while my brows didn't look bad, they didn't look great either. She mapped out my brows beforehand using a straight-edge held against the various angles of my face and drew in lines using a pencil. I didn't have my glasses on, but it looked fine to me, so I gave the go-ahead. Both of my brows ended up unexpectedly and almost theatrically arched, my left one even more so than the right. When I lifted one eyebrow I looked like Maleficent! Again, not bad; I'm sure some ladies would love those super-arches, but they looked a little too wild on my face. Sometimes those straight-edge measurements will lead you astray! I'll save my brows (and $10) at my usual place further down State, Threading Plus. read more

Find another Benefit location if you'd like some understanding customer service, I was 10 mins late to an appointment due to horrible Downton traffic from work-- I didn't see my stylist so the young man stylist who was there dismissively told me to wait while he located her--I waited quite some time (enough time to finish a few work emails and take a work call) only for him to come back and tell me that she wouldn't see me--so I went to find a Macy's manager friend in the store and she told me to go back and speak directly with the stylist I had the appointment with, which I did---I let her know what happened and she was somewhat accommodating (after I told her that I waited and had already paid Downtown parking, she said she could take me), but told me that it looked like the freckles under my eyes were a rash (they are regular brown freckles on an African-American woman's face...no redness or other discoloration so I wasn't sure why she said that)...she also reiterated to me several times that Benefit has a five minute lateness policy in a borderline reprimanding tone...out of respect I didn't tell her that I'd never be coming back for such shitty customer service--and then while she was ringing me out she asked me SEVERAL times about how I would like to tip her..lol...I teach young people for a living, so I tried to be understanding---but I will NEVER return to this location---these young people need a good round of updated customer service and sensitivity training particularly in our current times of uncertainty and delay--reprimanding customers for being late and THEN telling people with freckles that they have a rash (I asked her once she was closer to my face could she see it wasn't a rash--she said from a distance she thought it was an allergic reaction (really young lady, freckles are an allergic reaction?smh) and then tried to sell me some eyebrow conditioner...girl bye..smh) is just not good business. Meanwhile the young man stylist remained dismissive while finally checking me in (he had me trying to connect to a QR code that didn't work and then walked away without making sure my check in was complete so I had to check in manually on a laptop)-- he seemed more interested in chatting with passing friends in the store while he was working. If it weren't for my other very good experiences with other Benefit locations, I would totally write this chain off. Avoid all this foolishness and find another location. read more

She also showed me how they look in the mirror during each step. She asked if I liked it, in case I wanted to make any changes, but they were perfect! I couldn't have asked for better service...and it was free!!! they didnt pressure me to buy, but if i wasnt in a hurry, i definitely wouldve stayed longer to purchase a few items because my eyebrows stayed exactly how Vanessa did them throughout the whole day. I always go to the Benefit Brow Bar and see INDIRA. She is amazing and I have come to trust her entirely with my eyebrows. The entire experience starts with a discussion of what I want and what I would like to happen with my eyebrows. I prefer my eyebrows to look natural and The Benefit Philosophy is aligned with that. Indira then will map out what she is going to do, then talks to me about the plan, and after I agree she then begins waxing. The best part is, that I am a very busy full-time grad student and I work full-time, and I do not know what Indira does, but my eyebrows still look amazing four weeks later. When they start to regrow they never look out of control or misshaped. I have never had a bad experience and I have never found my skin to be red or inflamed. I am so happy I have found someone who is consistently great at maintaining my eyebrows and I cannot imagine going to anyone else. read more

Skipped my last brow appointment for travel and desperately needed some clean up. I was able to make an appointment 1 day in advance. Miguel did my brows and upper lip. He was very thorough and asked about any skin thinning products (retinols). His technique was also quick, and he didn't pinch my skin when he cleaned up tweezers. I loved the shape of my brows, and he even filled them in and taught me about brow make up. Then he put a little concealer on the red areas, which was perfect, because I'm always a bit self conscious after getting my brows done. The price is a bit higher than other places I've had my brows done ($21 for just brows. $28 for brow and lip), but they definitely offer extra perks that I've never experienced at other places. I'd highly recommend Miguel, and I think this place is especially appropriate for anyone who will return to the rest of their day and doesn't want it obvious that they just had a wax. read more

It's been a while since I had my brows done so I was a little desperate. I'm very picky because I tend to burn easily even with the super sensitive wax. Anyway, I was glad the brow stylist (i just made that up) was willing to both tweeze and wax me... Bonus. She did a good job. They "brow map" you to make sure the get only the intended hairs-2nd bonus. My only very teeny criticism is the price...$23 because of tweezing. With tip, a brow job cost me $28... I have been working with Mercedes now for a few months. I have very thick big brows, and she did not seem to have a problem with that at all. For someone who's usually crying when getting brows done, Mercedes is super gentle and it barely hurts me. I also love that she listens to what I like and does exactly that.
