After years of painful threading, I decided to research places to wax my brows. I take anything related to my eyebrows very seriously; I wasn't blessed with perfectly arched eyebrows and they're thick and patchy, so I will never go anywhere with bad reviews. Love love love this! I'm new to the area so one of the frustrations about moving is you have to find a new everything - new hair stylist, new mechanic, and one of the most important needs - someone to make you look and feel like a pretty girl again when things get a little hairy! My friend suggested going to the Benefit Brow Bar for eyebrows. It was super easy to call Ulta to make an appointment for the same day. The brow bar is located in the "prestige" makeup area to the right. Upon arrival, Krysthal greeted me, sat me down, and explained how Benefit's process worked. I love how clear she was and her work was very thorough. Benefit maps out your brows and shows you what your brows should look like. The waxing process wasn't as painful as I've had in the past and with the cool cucumber aloe mist and concealer, I did not look as red as I've been before. I appreciated that Krysthal was kind, thorough, and really took her time to ensure my eyebrows looked great (they did!). I've had waxers rush through and I'd also be terrified that they'd rip my whole eyebrow off! The only thing I wasn't a fan of is having my brows filled in. It's not a bad thing - I am just not used to makeup in that area so I felt like I had very serious brows after leaving Ulta. Horrible, horrible, horrible brow job by Krystal. I was grateful for her squeezing me in, but after the brow job I wished she didn't. I came in with thick brows and she specifically asked me if I wanted to keep them thick and my answer was yes. What the heck happened? She did the brow mapping and that looked great. Before the wax was on. After the wax and some tweezing, she gave me the mirror and I didn't even recognize my brows. To make matters worse, I was going out within a couple of hours to celebrate my birthday. I was so behind schedule and at a lost for words I just grabbed my daughter and got the hell out of there. I haven't had a bad brow job like this since I was in high school....when I did them. I normally get threaded and this was the first time in over a decade I got them waxed. (But that's another review.) Based on my trusty Yelpers, I tried Sam at Ulta at Westfield Culver (Fox Hills). The. Best. Ever! She was professional, accurate, took her time without taking too long. Carlo did my brows. He's really nice and had nice brows himself. He didn't clean up after the last client until I was seated. He put on the sample concealer straight up on my brows without using a makeup sponge or pad, which is a sanitation problem for me. I don't want something that was applied on someone else's face applied directly on me, spreading their oils on my sensitive skin. That's why there's always a separate applicator. What do they teach in school? He did some plucking and plucked a part of my eyebrows that was obviously not supposed to be plucked. Then he left a few hairs under the line. Wtf?? I've been on Yelp for years and rarely review establishments but my experience with her was the best I've had in over 20 years of getting brow services. She was booked but squeezed me in because I was desperate and trying to recover from a previous bad brow job. She didn't have to accommodate me, but did...How sweet! She explained exactly what she would be doing to my brows and what I would need to do going forward to maintain them. I was hungry and hadn't eaten all day...and she even gave me her last cookie! This place is the best. A brow waxing is only $20, and since you're getting your brows done at a makeup counter, they'll often touch up your makeup for you afterwards. I've had a few different ladies at this counter do my brows, and they all do a great job. Wonderful value for the money. read more

Simply amazing! Ask for Krysthal (There Tuesdays-Saturdays)! After getting my brows butchered by Shapes Brow Bar, I spent almost two months growing them back out. Already jaded by other brow places who seem to either take off too much or disregard face shape, it's safe to say that my expectations were very low for Benefit Brow Bar. However, my girl Krysthal not only take the time out to explain to me the Benefit brow method, but also how she was going to shape my brows, the importance of brow mapping, issues with threading (they spend a lot of time fixing threading clients) and where she wants me to grow them back out. The consultation was thoughtful, detailed and above all else caring. When she started to wax, within minutes my brows were transformed from bushy, angry caterpillars to insanely well defined tresses (they seriously looked like they were lined, but it's just good shaping). I was so blown away by how fast, pain free and FREAKING AWESOME they looked that I seriously hugged her when I left. Best of all, they conceal redness with Vitamin E (ie: soothing) concealer, so you can go about your day not looking like you were attacked by a bunch of fire ants. Pros: Awesome service, brows that actually fit your face, no upsells, conceals your face, these people are artists. Cons: I know some people may think it's pricier than other places (I know I sure did), but honestly when you see the results and the amenities they provide you'll realize it's worth every penny, and you'll actually WANT to tip. read more

SO GOOD! Made an appointment with Krysthal, and she was amazing! (Note: You can walk in, but it gets really busy, so I highly recommend making an appointment) I will admit, I am pretty lazy with my brows. I only get them done very occasionally, and when I do, I get them threaded. They were allll over the place when I came in, but Krysthal did a great job giving them some actual shape! I was a little nervous getting them waxed for the first time, but she explained every step carefully and made me feel comfortable. I liked how she showed me the shape before starting the wax, so I can see it and make any final adjustments. She answered all of my questions, and even took the time to show me how to fill in my brows with different products (I had no idea how to, hah). The best thing is, she never tried to push any Benefit products on me, which is really nice. I hate being pressured to buy product when I go in for a service. Have been going to Montana Ave brow bar in Santa Monica with only good experiences. Decided to try this one because i happened to be in the mall. After waxing my right brow, a patch of skin underneath my eyebrow began bleeding. The aesthetician said, "does this happen a lot when you get waxed?" I said it's never happened. She said it probably did but i just didn't notice because they put concealer on right after. That's definitely not true as It's been a couple months and I can still see the patch where my skin was ripped off. No fun. read more

I've gotten my brows done at different locations, but getting them done at a benefit brow bar always makes them look the best!!!! While the Ulta this brow bar is located in is a bit run down and theres a Sephora in the same mall, but because Mandi is such a wonderful technician I always end up stopping by!! While the service itself was pretty decent, they unfortunately don't honor a free eye brow wax like they do at their many other locations on your birthday. The girl at the register explained it's because they are located inside of Ulta. I saw Ana, who seemed to be fairly experienced. I've gotten my eye brows waxed for almost 10 years now and am extremely familiar with good technique, holding the skin taught, etc. Ana was great with communicating asking all of the right questions and confirming if I wanted my brows a certain way before dipping into the wax. After the service, she asked if I wanted my brows filled in again and if I wanted her to put some concealer on my redness. That's one of the benefits of Benefit (pun intended) is that they won't have you walking out looking crazy red and without makeup LOL. Though I declined the makeup cover up and just opted in for filled in brows, I was happy with my service. The overall experience took about 25-30 minutes which is ample time for your specialist to do a quality job. I absolutely hate when they rush through a service. Ana did not. If you are in the Culver City area and are in need of a good brow wax and trim go to Benefit inside of Ulta but if it's your birthday and you are wanting a free service definitely do your research first.
