I've been coming to this nail salon on and off for years. I used to love coming here to get fun designs on my nails but the quality has really gone downhill and now I only get a solid color. The purple and red sets were from past years and the blue set is from today... After today I will NOT be going back. The woman who did my pedicure today rushed through the job. She didn't put anything between my toes to avoid the polish rubbing off and onto another toe, she didn't put on a base coat before applying gel polish, and she very vigorously buffed away the sides of my feet (not the heel or ball of my foot- she was distracted talking to her friend). Then when it came to doing a 5 minute foot massage, she decided half way through that she was over it and just put pressure on my toes, bending them toward the floor to stretch them and continued talking to the tech next to her. I'd like to say that was the end of the experience, but it wasn't. The guy that did my manicure was probably new. He filed off the topcoat with his machine on high speed and burned my nail plate, then didn't really know what steps to do the service in. By the time he had me soak my nails in water, the bowl was already cold. He was friendly and tried to make sure I was happy at each step but honestly i was so disappointed with how my pedicure was going, i just wanted to leave. I told the person at check out that I was unhappy with the service and explained to him why. The guy wanted me to sit down so that someone could redo it - which is crazy to ask someone to do when they just spent an hour and a half to leave with half-assed nails. No discount offered, so I had to pay $110 for nails that I wasn't even happy with. Which reminds me, i guess they raised the prices on some of their services. A woman who left before me asked why her bill was more than before and they explained that the service she usually got was raised in price (they didn't tell her that before she sat down for her service). And to top it all off, the new guy at the front desk wearing the top that said ___ Atelier thought it was funny to joke around and pretend to spray the disinfectant spray into one of the tech's drinks when she was asking him to leave her alone. What a horrible time. If you still choose to go here after this review, please only go to see Nancy or Jenna. They are the only two techs have given me a beautiful set of nails.
Bella did my Gel-X set so fast and so perfectly! I seriously have never gotten a set done in under an hour. She was so nice and gentle, I'm so happy I came to Varnish. Tracy did my gel pedicure and was also gentle and the shape and color are perfect. Definitely recommend coming here and booking with Bella for Gel-X!

Located at the Runway in Playa Vista, this place is an amazing location and validates for 1 hour of parking. I came here for a last minute hard gel fill, and the staff was kind, knowledgeable and were very fast. They are a little pricey and upcharge for certain services but the quality of work is great and their salon is well kept and have a ton of nail polish color options Recommend for sure!

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience. I paid $70 (plus a $10 tip), which felt extremely overpriced for the quality I received. The polish had bubbles, the paint job was uneven, and the blue color was so thin you could see right through it -- clearly another coat was needed, but it wasn't offered or applied. The nail tech also wasn't able to do the first design I showed her, and instead of letting me know upfront, she tried a second option that didn't match the color or shimmer effect I wanted. It was clear she was a novice, not a trained professional, and the result reflected that. I left feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. For the price I paid, I expected a much higher standard of work and professionalism. I won't be returning, which is very unfortunate because the first time I tried them, I had a great nail tech and got compliments on my nails for a whole month. I wish I had gotten the same person. Update! Varnish Lab reached out and redid my nails for free with Nancy, the artist. I did leave her a $20 tip for the redo. They did a cat-eye blue-gray color.

I have been going to Varnish Bar for a few years now, and Tommy always gives me the best hard gel nails! I wasn't quite ready for Christmas but wanted something that popped as we head into Thanksgiving, and Tommy gave me a gorgeous, amber tone cats eye. Hanna gave me a wonderful pedicure to match, and each time I leave here I feel refreshed and delighted. Will be back of course!

Bella did my manicure and she was super nice and detail oriented. I was nervous because I don't get my nails done often, and especially not a design. Bella definitely cares about the quality of her work. The pedicure was just as relaxing and well done! I'm super happy with the results :). I'll definitely be back!

OK, so I don't want to gate keep, but I promise you I will be so hurt if my favorite nail tech are no longer available to do my hands and feet! That said, I have to share the latest design by my nailtech "Jenna". Not only did she create this design on her own, but it looks absolutely flawless! I've gotten so many compliments on them, and I just had to share. This is definitely the place that you go to for a peaceful atmosphere, clean environment, and excellent service. The price is a bit expensive, however, the quality of work and the duration of the nails last so long! And I cannot attest for everyone who works in the shop, but Jenna does the most amazing gel applications, and Vanny pampers your feet like no other. read more

Today was my first time visiting Varnish. I had a great experience! I live in the neighborhood so I'm happy that there's a spot within walking distance that I make my regular spot. Be selective when coming here. I've had my nails done by the men and they are great!!! Had my nails done twice by Jenna and she is extremely rude and my nails chip every time. I got my nails done today for mother's day and they're already lifting/chipping. read more

I had a baby and forgot to post my follow up but the salon did try to reach out to make things right. I have not got my nails done since this incident. Left a bad taste but all the work i had for the year before I could say I was happy with. It seems like it was a miscommunication and wrong info given. I've been coming to Varnish for quite some time now, but I've been seeing Jenna for about 3 years. As you can see from the photos (just a few of the many sets she's done) she eats every single time. Basic French tip? Flawless. Solid colors? She's got it. Elaborate nail art? Say less. My natural nails are brittle and basically nonexistent and I have short nail beds, but my sets from her have lasted up to 3 weeks. Not only is she amazing at what she does, she's hilarious, sassy, and fun to hang out with while getting your nails done. I've gatekeeped for awhile, but go see Jenna. read more

I've been here multiple times pre covid and post Covid but it's been some time and they've changed a few things Would love to see them eventually add vegan polish options but it was a plus that they had base coat nail repair which I'm seeing many nail salons lacking with not carrying it Overall parking was easy street self parking or there's a garage for the plaza 5 stars would've been giving if they offered drinks while we waited or were serviced as well as didn't ask us to pay and tip before even receiving the service which was not a good feeling as we didn't know what we would get yet being asked to tip before the service was rendered when you tip based on how service is. Happy with my manicure but it wasn't one that was above and beyond but an experience of the job was done and met the basic requirements. I love when I have that experience. Also would've been nice to see the different types of manicures they offered because they were never offered or shared I would come back but would hope for a more 5 star service being that prices are above what the average is read more

When you get dip do you take the whole thing off for a dip fill or start over each time?
When you get dip color, you need to take off whole dip off like gel manicure to get the new dip color set. If you dip clear and color gel over top so we can refill by take only gel off and refill the clear and color gel color on top.

Tracy has the prices correct. However they also change $5-$10 to remove the dip polish every visit, even if you're a regular. It's usually ends up being between $70-$75 And not worth it.
