There are the classic showcases of the volcano onion, and the beating heartbeat. Please make reservations because this place gets packed like a sardines can. I ordered the lobster tail, which was tasty, yet nothing special. Furthermore, the 5 course meal all had decent flavors or textures. But nothing gave you that wow factor that makes you think you will come back. The food was okay. In addition, in terms of the benihana special tricks and showcases, I didn't get to see any shrimp tail flips. The volcano onion trick was only 3 stacks high. This is going to be a honest review. I am relating exactly what happened with no hyperbole. Just the facts. Went to Benihana on Saturday night. Had a reservation for 6:30 which we had made and paid the deposit on 2 weeks in advance. Yes, you have to pay for a reservation. Ok, well that will surely guarantee your time, no? No. We show up exactly on time and are told there will be a 30 minute wait. There is nowhere to wait since the vestibule is packed with others waiting as well. We decide to wait outside in the cold. 30 minutes goes by and come back in and - we are told it will be 30 more minutes. We go outside to wait in the cold. 30 more minutes goes by and we come back in and.... We are told it will be another 30 minutes. We go outside and wait in the cold. Finally come back in and the table is ready. We waited for 1 hour and 30 minutes standing in the cold. No comped drinks, no discount, nothing. Finally get our table and the meal is --- in a word, "fine". Not great, but fine. Same thing they've been doing for years. The same soup, the same sauces, the same schtick. I mean, its fine, but its nothing that you could call innovative. And if you've been there once, there is no reason to come back. The chefs vary in skill with the twirling/banging cutlery thing. But ours was having a bad night or was just less skilled because he failed on most of his tricks and dropped utensils a lot. They all do the same onion choo-choo thing. Then the final kicker. We had a party of 8 and split the check evenly. I asked the server directly: Is gratuity included in this? She said, NO. Fine, so I tip 18% (Not that it was deserved after the waiting fiasco, and lackluster performance, but... whatever, the chef and servers were nice). My brother in law tips 20%. This was done on the keypad buttons thing. We both just pressed the corresponding buttons. The check receipt is weirdly split, confusing to read, Both receipts have both gratuities on it, so its hard to read. We go home. I check the itemized receipts and I notice the totals are wrong. There is an extra number associated with my BILs tip. It turns out somehow an extra $90 got tacked on and discretely slipped into my BIL's check. I have no idea how that would have happened - I want to give people the benefit of the doubt but this is super fishy. He's trying to sort it out, lets see what comes of this. But for now, I can not recommend going here. EDIT: my sister in law went back and they admitted that "This has been happening" Here's your money back. NOT ONE ITOA OF CONTRITION. Cancelled our birthday reservation because we were 15 mins late. We were literally 15 mins late to the minute, for which I take full responsibility for, but the response we got was "nothing we can do, no one you can talk to, it's all automatic so we cancelled you and can't get you a table until 8" with zero remorse or sensitivity to it being an important birthday event. Despite how that is a direct reflection of poor restaurant management; we wanted to take the time to say that Shane (5 stars) was the best chef we've had - in years! He was fun, genuine and kind. He knew how to engage in a meaningful and relevant way - we have 3 kids / 2 teens. Sunny (1 star) the waitress was the opposite of that. She was rude, got multiple orders wrong (never apologized), we had to ask her for water multiple times, she never offered any refills on drinks, and she seemed put off by everything other than making sure everyone knew what "upgrades" were. Had a solid meal here. I thought it would be fun for the kiddo and he loved it. Our table side chef was Isaac and he was very friendly and put on a great show. I had the filet mignon (cooked medium rare) and frankly it turned out great. To be honest $40 is not a bad price for a good steak meal these days - and of course it comes with the soup, salad, rice, veggie and shrimp sides, tea, etc. I could pass on the salad and soup frankly - nothing special for me, and the soup seemed pretty salty (maybe I'd try the miso next time?). But if you're wanting hibachi, this is what Benihana does best, and honestly I was pleasantly surprised with my meal. Fun place to visit for a meal and cooking entertainment. The food is good but the entertaining show they do while cooking is the best part. You received your food hot off the grill in front of you and get to see everything prepared. You'll be seated at a table with a grill in the center. Unless you're with a large party you'll likely be sitting with 1-2 other parties at the same grill. Its a fun date night place but not a private or intimate setting due to this. This restaurant wrecked our Valentine's Day. We made reservations at 6:30. We drove an hour to get there before 6:30 and found many people in the reception area who had reservations before us and had been waiting for an hour and a half. They told me it would be an hour and twenty minutes because they overbooked. We weren't prepared to wait that long....low blood sugar. So we ended up cancelling our reservation, and unfortunately, we were unable to make other reservations because it was Valentine's Day. I reached out to them to express our dismay, and other than an acknowledgement, have received zero response from management. I found it rude that they sent an email days before the reservation to make sure we would be there, but didn't have the courtesy to text us that they overbooked and not to show up until later. I've gone to "knock off" hibachi and had a better experience and better price. Reservations at 2:30pm, we were sat at 2:40, fine no problem. It took about 20min for server to come, took our drink and food orders, to get our drinks wasn't too long of a wait, thankfully. Close to 3:30 is when our chef came, my date and I could barely hear him when he spoke, super nice guy but definitely needed to speak up as that place is LOUD. He didn't put on much of a show, there were 2 other adults, 2 smaller kids and 1 older teenager and the chef focused mainly on the one small kid. I get it, but this is the first time my date has ever gone to a place like this I wish he got some "razzle dazzle". The chef did no tricks of sorts, did the onion volcano at the end (needed to hunt down a lighter which dampened the moment). There was even a point where he said "you know you guys can talk to eachother" he did say it jokingly; but because we were all silent. Like YOU talk to us, have some fire, throw a shrimp, something. Had to wave down the server to come back for more drinks, after 10min into device she like disappeared! Definitely underwhelming, and won't be going back which is so disappointing. Also, we reek of oil, clothes, hair, which I've never experienced in places like this before. We got the crispy rice spicy yellowtail appetizer, delicious, tequila watermelon bowl for 2, delicious, lobster, colossal shrimp, 8.5oz steak, filet mignon, fried rice, onion soup - all so good and cooked perfectly. Salad that came out in beginning after soup, had the thickest dressing where I couldn't mix it so some parts were overdressed and some not at all, didn't finish it. With tip spent close to $300 as well, eek. Let me start off by saying I didn't think this was a real place. Being from the Midwest, I have only seen it referenced in movies and such, thinking it was just something made up. Anyway, now I know it's real. The food was yummy. Service was fantastic (I'm so sorry I can remember our server's name). Our chef, Nick P (also known as the GOOD Nick) was great! Very personable and entertaining, all while preparing 10 different entrees. I can barely cook one entree for 10 people, let alone various selections at once - so good on you! Couple of points for my folks that get overstimulated by noise or smells or things like that: This is the first time I've been to a hibachi type restaurant that had that many grills going at once without a powerful ventilation in one main room which is why this is not a 5 star. I recommend not wearing anything that is dry-clean only or any type of cloth bag. Heck, even my Fitbit silicone wristband needed to be changed out. Happy hour specials are available from 3 to 6 p.m. My son and I recently stopped in at the sushi bar on a Friday afternoon. The California rolls, shrimp crunchy roll, Benihana salad, and chicken-fried rice were all superb, as usual. The tuna ngiri was incredibly good. If you've never tried it, you owe it to yourself to discover this amazing delicacy. Our server Meghan was super attentive, friendly, and professional. It was slammed, and appeared to be running 45 minutes behind, even for those with reservations. Mickey greeted us with iPad in hand. He was super friendly in the midst of the chaos. The food was fabulous as expected. What was not expected was how one of the bartenders on duty - Megan took amazing care of us. As she prepared drinks for the entire bar AND restaurant, she also made our night very special. Her two martinis were outstanding, and she was great about checking in with us. I almost can't describe how much I hate this restaurant. We had their sushi assortment and it was the worse sushi I've ever tasted. Somehow, they managed to find fish with absolutely no flavor, cut so thin you could read a newspaper thru it for astronomical prices. A small bottle (12oz) of Modella beer went for $9.50, and the larger (20oz) bottle of Kirin or Sapporo went for a whopping $17. That is a ridiculous price that in any other restaurant would cost 1/2 as much. It took over 40 minutes to receive our order. The order included an iceberg bland small salad and a bowl of Miso soup that tasted more like watered down chicken broth. Please notice that Benihana does not publish it's prices because they are so exorbitant. In summation, Benihana is the most terrible Gringo version of a Japanese restaurant.
