This restaurant wrecked our Valentine's Day. We made reservations at 6:30. We drove an hour to get there before 6:30 and found many people in the reception area who had reservations before us and had been waiting for an hour and a half. They told me it would be an hour and twenty minutes because they overbooked. We weren't prepared to wait that long....low blood sugar. So we ended up cancelling our reservation, and unfortunately, we were unable to make other reservations because it was Valentine's Day. I reached out to them to express our dismay, and other than an acknowledgement, have received zero response from management. I found it rude that they sent an email days before the reservation to make sure we would be there, but didn't have the courtesy to text us that they overbooked and not to show up until later. Hour drive back home with no dinner. Thie management of this restaurant sucks. Shame on them for doing this to their customers. So unprofessional. read more

Went back a week ago for a lunch date with a group of friends and it was still just as fun! We had made the reservation for 5 people at 11:30am, expecting to sit in the bar area as we had made it clear on the phone we didn't want to do the hibachi side. So we were surprised when we arrived that we couldn't sit on the bar side as it was for groups of 4 only. But, oh well. We sat on the hibachi side and still had an amazing time. Came here for dinner and enjoyed it. As others have said, the dinner is the show...and it's fun. Also as others have said, it could have been stronger with the showmanship. That said, it's a unique experience and I thought the food was pretty tasty (how could it not be with all that oil, butter, and sauce on it!). I got the filet mignon and scallops, and it also came with shrimp, salad, soup, and ice cream. The perk is getting the birthday coupon so you can shave off the high cost, so that's worth it once a year. read more

The Benihana sushi bar is a great alternative to dining in the main restaurant hibachi style. Happy hour specials are available from 3 to 6 p.m. My son and I recently stopped in at the sushi bar on a Friday afternoon. The California rolls, shrimp crunchy roll, Benihana salad, and chicken-fried rice were all superb, as usual. The tuna ngiri was incredibly good. If you've never tried it, you owe it to yourself to discover this amazing delicacy. Our server Meghan was super attentive, friendly, and professional. I took my wife to Benihana's for Valentine's Day dinner, where we specifically asked to sit at the bar/lounge. It was slammed, and appeared to be running 45 minutes behind, even for those with reservations. Mickey greeted us with iPad in hand. He was super friendly in the midst of the chaos. The food was fabulous as expected. What was not expected was how one of the bartenders on duty - Megan took amazing care of us. As she prepared drinks for the entire bar AND restaurant, she also made our night very special. Her two martinis were outstanding, and she was great about checking in with us. I almost can't describe how much I hate this restaurant. We had their sushi assortment and it was the worse sushi I've ever tasted. Somehow, they managed to find fish with absolutely no flavor, cut so thin you could read a newspaper thru it for astronomical prices. A small bottle (12oz) of Modella beer went for $9.50, and the larger (20oz) bottle of Kirin or Sapporo went for a whopping $17. That is a ridiculous price that in any other restaurant would cost 1/2 as much. It took over 40 minutes to receive our order. The order included an iceberg bland small salad and a bowl of Miso soup that tasted more like watered down chicken broth. Please notice that Benihana does not publish it's prices because they are so exorbitant. In summation, Benihana is the most terrible Gringo version of a Japanese restaurant. Please read all of the other terrible reviews about this place and avoid it at all costs and be suspicious about the positive ones. read more

I would give a negative star if I could. They do not honor their reservation. Made one for two at 7:30. Received a text at 7:15 saying the table was ready. Checked in at 7:18. They said 10 more minutes. An hour later, still no table. Called the call center they kept lying stating they called the restaurant and it would be 5 mins. I finally got a hold of the restaurant and they said nobody called them. These kids were 17 and I am sure profiled because of their age. An hour later they couldn't tell me when their table was ready. The manager Mickey showed a complete lack of empathy even after I let him know one of the guests was a diabetic and an hour past when they should have eaten. Shameful. The utter lack of care is disgusting. I was hung up on, put on hold, and lied to. You need to do better! read more

This place is still a fun experience, but I must admit it's lost a bit of its luster for me. First off if your are planning on dining here, and want the hibachi experience - be prepared to wait. There is a dining room for faster dining, but again this is about the experience. Even with a reservation they usually wait to have a full table so unless you are with a larger party you could be waiting a little while to sit. Once seated the meal takes an hour to hour and a half. Some recent things that have made me less excited to return is they now present you with a super slimmed down menu - with mostly the most expensive options on it. In small print at the bottom it states that you can get a full menu upon request. Something most people miss. Last time I went they also weren't offering the lunch menu "because of the holidays" meaning you had to order the full dinner entrees even if you were just popping in for a bite between shopping. More food than you need and twice as expensive. Both seem like underhanded ways to make you pay more. The last time we went in the table we were at wasn't even working properly. It wouldn't come up to temperature and kept turning off. The chef handled it like a champ, and made sure all of our food was cooked properly, but it probably added to the already long dining time. Absolutely worst dining experience in my life. My wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a special dinner. We both ordered the filet and lobster "6-course meal", apparently each course is served separately... first we got 6-10 slices of mushroom on the plate, while he cooked the onions. We got the onions and he started the rice. I was never asked if I wanted the $7 upgrade to "fried" rice, but that's what I got next in a bowl. At that point I decided to eat the small portions of onions and mushrooms off the huge plate as I nibbled on the rice. Every time I've been to any teppanyaki restaurant the plate is normally filled with the courses cooked together, not one at a time. To make things worse, after we got our bowls of rice and a side of onions and mushrooms garnish, the cook started cooking a special batch of fried rice with no vegetables for two people at our table. Still no proteins cooked or added to the $7 upgrade fried rice, not even an egg. Now that I'm halfway done with my rice and the plate is empty again, he cooks the filets, I ordered mine medium-rare, it came well done. Meanwhile a single lobster tail is sitting off to the side warming, my wife and I are looking at each other, trying to figure out how that divides up... turns out he forgot to get the second lobster tail for our order, even though he was looking at the table orders on a receipt in front of him repeatedly while cooking and distributing the food. Also, he used dirty rags to scrub the grill in between food items, while people's shrimp was on the grill, bumping their food with the rag. Absolutely the worst, seriously OVERPRICED meal I've ever experienced. Benihana was legendary, now I'll never go there again or recommend anyone else do the same. read more

An hour after that my son and DIL had to go home and go to bed. 10 minutes later our chef finally arrived. As soon as the chef was done we paid our bill, boxed our food and left for home just shy of 3 hours after our arrival. This happened once before and they kindly discounted our bill 50%. AMAZING EXPERIENCE - Malik is a certified legend We had an incredible time tonight at Benihana. All made possible by the genius and persona of our chef, Malik. He was friendly, fun, engaging, great with the kids, and a supremely talented chef. Malik didn't Klopp around. Got right to it. Heavy metal hibachi for sure. And the service...Malik served it up like a Kevin De Bruyne assist to the mouth. Tools just stuck to his hands. He's like Bernardo Silva but Scouse. His skillz had us ball watching like Trent Alexander Arnold. My kids were riveted, cheering, and amazed. Veggies were excellent, shrimp and steak too. And we have a lot of leftovers for tomorrow. It was a great experience and food was spendy but comparable to other high end places. The drinks were a little over the top price wise at $15 for Tito's and soda. While not an authentic Japanese restaurant, it still has elements of Japanese food and the concept of grilling the food in front of patrons is fairly unique. You basically sit round table style (10 people max) and watch the chef cook your food in front of you. It's a little on the pricier side; the cheapest meat entry I saw was for the shrimp at $26. All meals come with a set of items included in your meat choices. You can also add extra portions for the fried rice for example ($6.95 if I recall correctly). For drinks they have wine (most expensive bottle was $90~), sake, cocktails, tea, and soda. Also, expect to be here for at least an hour. I was there for nearly 2 hrs, but I enjoyed the food and the chef was very engaging. Beware of coming on holidays; the place was packed on Christmas Eve and my reservation got pushed back. *Order:* Benihana Delight ($29)- Comes with Benihana Onion Soup, Benihana Salad, Hibachi Shrimp Appetizer, Hibachi Vegetables, Mushrooms, Homemade Dipping Sauce, Steamed or fried Rice, Japanese Green Green Tea, and Ice Cream or Sherbert. Onion Soup- Not as flavorful as I would've liked, but it was still good. Had mushrooms and onions in it. Salad-- Very delicious dressing and the lettuce tasted fresh. This Beaverton restaurant has really declined over the last few times I've gone there. My family has been coming faithfully for many years but after last night I seriously doubt we'll ever return. The first issue is they either overbook reservations or take too many walk ins, we'd had a 6:30pm table booked for weeks and when we arrived the small (freezing) waiting area was jammed with people. They said it would be a 30 minute wait. Our family of 6 including a toddler waited and at 7pm we were told it would be another 20 minutes, but we didn't get seated until 8pm. There were many unhappy people waiting like we were. They control the pace and there is no excuse, blaming "17 live kitchens" and "people lingering at their tables" is not valid. We were unfortunately seated in the rear room is awful, it has the older ceiling ventilation for the grill and it was dripping with oil (we didn't notice until a random employee came in and wiped a section off with a rag) and so smoky in there. The plates and glassware were dirty. My son asked for a clean plate when we first sat down because there was food stuck to his plate. The waitress rushed off and brought back the same exact plate, still very warm from sitting on the grill and she had brushed the food off but not all of the way, yuck! Way too expensive to put up with all of this, and they are so not worth it. read more

I want to start my review by thanking the managers for being remorseful and compassionate about how awful our experience here was. This was my first time here, and I came with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. Disappointment doesn't cover our experience here tonight. Benihana's is supposed to be a "luxury" and "extraordinary" experience. We experienced none of that. As we watched the tables around us experience an incredible fire show provided by the chef, we were excited for our time and we did not get it at all. Not to mention one of the guests in our group did not get rice at all, the steak was OVER cooked. The floor was sticky and the soap dispenser was broken. The person we were there to celebrate had made a reservation and we waited OVER AN HOUR to be seated. Where do I start. Our family had a miserable experience last night for my birthday at the Beaverton, Oregon, restaurant. Our server made it clear that she was extremely annoyed that we had guests with food allergies. Both by her body language and overhearing her speaking to a co-worker about how difficult we were being. Then, after explaining all of the food allergies, they were not conveyed correctly to the chef. The chef did his best to accommodate our additional instructions at the table, and while he did cook the food separately, we noticed that the tools were not cleaned in between preparing the meals. Needless to say, my daughter has been having allergic reactions since last night due to cross contamination of ingredients that she is allergic to. Don't get me started on the meal selections either. Due to the allergies, most of our table could not eat the full, 6 course meals. We called in advance and were assured that we could eat just the meat portions and rice a la carte and that the price would be much less than the cost of the 6 course meal. This was untrue and we were told it would actually cost more to eat a la carte. When we mentioned that we could take the food that we couldn't eat home to a relative, we were told by the server that "we prefer you don't do that" and our extra food was given to the couple sitting at our table. The only bright spot of the evening was the chef who was fantastic, funny and understanding of our issues. Unfortunately, we will not be dining at this restaurant again. On top of the $200 bill, I now have to pay a doctor's co pay for my daughter to be seen as well as any medicine that they have her take. read more

We had the pleasure of celebrating our friends' birthday at Benihana. All told there were eight in our party. After spot-checking a few reviews I think there are some aspects of eating at a hibachi restaraunt some diners overlook, ignore, or are simply unaware of. For example... 1) The cooking is done at your table so you should expect your clothes to absorb some of the wonderful odors coming off the grill. Yes - all the way home. In my opinion, It's only a bad thing if you don't like the food. 2) it is by design if not necessity that you will be sitting with strangers if your party is small as the grills incorporate eight or more seats. 3) If you're looking for an intimate, quiet and/or romantic atmosphere you should look elsewhere because it's loud, busy, and again - you may find yourself sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers. 4) The food is on the expensive side as you are paying for entertainment as well. Now as to our experience. We had a 6:45 reservation and experienced a short delay of perhaps 10 minutes only because we were waiting for everyone in our party to arrive. That said, we were seated quickly and addressed by our host immediately. Our waiter took drink orders shortly thereafter and our food selections soon after. Our hibachi chef - Brady - came out, introduced himself and quickly went to work. He was quite funny and candid throughout our meal. We found him personable and talented at keeping the conversation going while prepping, cooking and serving our food. The table service was very attentive, professional, and helpful. Sadly, I did not capture our server's name but she was wonderful. The food was delish and between all of us included shrimp, prawns, yakisoba, chicken, tofu, filet mignon, fried rice and probably a couple things I'm forgetting. Oh - dinner salads and onion soup both of which were very good. We liked the sauces Brady whipped up as well. Since the birthday boy brought his own ice cream cake we all passed on the house desert included with our meals (ice cream and sherbet). Benihana's is not a place I'd likely go for non-celebratory events. It just has that kind of vibe and if you're in the mood, that's a really good thing. So I heartily recommend them next time you're looking to celebrate and want to share the love! read more
