The front door hostess Ashley is horrible. Her attitude was NASTY. She refused to answer any of my questions and provided beyond bad service. I came with a party of 7 (with reservations) and it took them over an hour to seat us. They also sat us in the bar area, not at the hibachi grill. When we asked to be moved to the hibachi section, we were told they were backed up in reservations and had to place us here, however, other parties came in after us and were seated in the hibachi section. I went back to speak with RUDE Ashley and while I was voicing my complaints of our seating arrangements, she rudely interrupted me by laughing and saying we can sit at in the bar area or leave. We left. I will never visit this location again and refuse to spend my money at a place that treats their customers like crap. A word to management: be picky as to who you let represent your company, especially while greeting customers as they enter your establishment. I've been coming here a lot and can't complain about the reservations and how quick they are to seat you. But when we sat a napkin of ours was dirty, hella nasty so we asked for another one. The waitress never came back with one until the 3rd time asking. Our wine was suppose to come with some cherries in it she said she would be back with that, we'll that never happened so we just drank it like it was because we got tired of waiting. On top of that it took the cook forever to come out from the kitchen. At that time I didn't care about no show I just wanted my food to be done. It was already super late I honestly was ready to go home. Also the place closes at 11 ! We waited so long it took our waiter 50 minutes to finally bring out one entrée and it was the French onion soup that was way to salty. Then another 20 minutes to bring us the salad. At the end of the 15 minutes, they told us it would be 15 minutes more. The same thing happened again and again, til finally, over an hour late, we were seated. And let me tell you--waiting in a packed vestibule with hungry kids for over an hour is not fun! Once seated, it was another considérable wait for the chef. One of the staff told me this happens every weekend (and perhaps other nights as well): even early in the evening, basically all reservations are seated an hour-plus late. Our waiter Michael was amazing he was super nice very attentive. He was very helpful navigating through the menu, and suggesting items for us. He worked the table really well and got our drinks and food out quickly. Its so refreshing to have a waiter that is always smiling and happy. Awesome job Michael, and thank you again. As for the food we ordered the Las Vegas roll, the dragon roll, and the hibachi steak and shrimp. There are a plethora of reviews about Benihana's so I doubt I have anything new to add. We came here for our company Christmas dinner last month and our boss had reserved a private dining room. First off we arrive and the room wasn't reserved for us. OOPS! The manager seated our group on two tables in the main dining room and comped some of the basic sushi plates. I will admit when I came here as a child with my family I loved the chef show and thought the food was amazing. As an adult that has traveled the world. Not so much. Our chef, as congenial as he was, pretty much overcooked everything. The drinks were ridiculously overpriced. The glass of Merlot I had was nice, albeit still overpriced, but the cocktail I had (Washington Apple) was weak and definitely not worth the almost $10 price tag. As far as cooperate places go Benihana has always been a safe place at any location. Until tonight, when my GF and I stopped in after running errands in the east bay. Should have known, the other two restaurants in the plaza had a wait, not here come on in and get skirt steak when you pay for filet. Oh your meal comes with hot green tea that you ask for at the beginning of your meal, well don't fret we will tell you the only hot drink at the bar is hot sake. You are definitely paying for the experience at this place. My first time here on my birthday and I must say they put on a show. Their food overall is very expensive but everything is made in front of you and the food is all fresh. I had their filet mignon and chicken hibachi special which wasn't too big on flavor but the dipping sauves provided aided in that section. The fried rice again was bland and so were the vegetables. The shrimp that they cook for you as an appetizer however was full of flavor. I have to start with the only reason I am giving it two stars is because the food is GREAT and the chefs have been awesome. Yet everything else I dislike. We go here at least 4-6 times a year maybe more. Yet the more we go the more we realize how much the service sucks. 1) Even with a reservation you have to wait at least 10-15 minutes 2) The host, servers and management are far from friendly. They are not inviting or accommodating. Example a month ago we had a reservation. My inlaws got there before my husband and I and since we know that the wait is long, I called to see if they could be seated and we would be there shortly. Answer was NOPE they couldn't do that. Sure enough we got there and waited another 10-15 minutes on top of what my in laws had already waited. The last time we where there we where imposed a 18% tip (even though the recipe says SUGGESTED TIP) when we chose to put a lesser tip the waitress came back and told my husband that he had to give the suggested tip. Last time I check a suggestion is just that a suggestion. Yet that wasnt the case here. I wouldn't mind giving a tip if it said tip owed but when you imply that its a suggestion then guess what I am going to give you what I feel you deserve. Her service was far from deserving 18% even the traditional 15% would have been too much. First of all she was not friendly. Secondly she took FOREVER to bring back drink and offer refills both on the soft drink and sake. (my husband wanted a second one and guess what? He never got a chance to order a 2nd). Regularly a waitress deserving of a tip would; come to you table occasionally to see if you would like another drink or need anything. This has only happened in two of our visits. If I could give zero stars, I would. My family and I went to Benihana in Concord to celebrate my birthday. We have been coming to this Benihana for over 10 years. We usually visit 2 -3 times a year and it's usually for a birthday. On this visit, we didn't get seated till 45 minutes after our reservation time and then were left to sit in the back room for another 30 minutes before we could even get a cocktail. About an hour after getting seated, we asked our order taker when we would be getting a chef to cook our dinner. He looked around the room and pointed out two other tables that were ahead of us and neither had a chef cooking yet. I asked to speak to a manager and waited another 10 minutes until she appeared. I told her that I had been coming to her restaurant for over 10 years and that I would never be back. I left my cocktail untouched, and my family and I walked out. I will never return to this or any other Benihana. It has been mis-managed for years, but we just put up with it, because my family always enjoyed the outing. Never again. I really have a hard time even giving two stars. Today we tried calling for half an hour and no one answered, we decided to just drive over. The receptionist told us we couldn't be seated without a reservation. I said maybe they should answer the phone! She said she could make me a reservation for 10 minutes later. What?! Anyway, 20 minutes later we got seated. Waitress was nice, but over her head. Part way through the meal she disappeared. The chef had to get us rice since she wasn't around and she hadn't brought it. Signature tricks of the chefs include the onion volcano, egg rooster, rice saying I (heart) U and beating, & others... I love the Las Vegas Rolls (minus the salmon) with avocado, CREAM CHEESE, jalapeños, and spicy sauce on top - note, these are deep fried but oh well, still so good! The Benihana salad with veggies & tangy ginger dressing = yum! The noodles with veggies + tofu and rice = mmm! And don't forget the SAKE and smooth beer! Closing with ice cream or sherbet for dessert = contentment. The chefs are happy and friendly! When requested, they'll cook the vegetarian food items first before putting any meat / seafood on the grill. How thoughtful! Cool atmosphere - with the constant singing of birthday happiness / other celebrations. However, most of the poor reviews seemed to be due to unreasonable wait times despite having reservations. We arrived a little early, and checked in. Despite it being pretty empty, the hostesses weren't exactly super friendly, but i guess friendly enough. And the entrance had a faint smell of sewage: so not exactly the best start. I went to check the men's bathroom to see if that's where it was coming from. but the bathroom seemed pretty clean. After a short wait, we were seated early. Overall our service from our waitress was actually quite good and attentive. The food was decent as well even tho our chef was mostly just going through the motions. Anyway, I guess this is a long way of saying, come really early if you want a decent experience here. I come to this Benihana at least once a week. I spend 30 bucks or better almost every time. My favorite is the splash and meadow and I also enjoy the filet mignon. On 10/25/20, I called to place an order. I was told to order online. I explained want I wanted to order was not a selection for the online order which was a side of hibachi veggies. The guy I spoke to told me to order online and write in the comment section to add an order of hibachi veggies. Right then I should have kept it moving because why wouldn't he just take my order over the phone as oppose to me paying for part of my order online, hope they fill the hibachi veggie, and then pay again when I pick up! Sound confusing? Wait... it gets better. So now I drive to Benihana as I was already in the area. I was able to walk in and order with no problem. The time stamp on my receipt was 16:12. I was told my order of shrimp sauté, hibachi veggies, and chicken fried rice would be abt 15 mins. I asked where would he prefer I wait. He replied outside. I then asked if I should come back in 15 mins or if they bring it out. He states come back. Meanwhile I head outside. As I am outside, I am watching other ppl walk to the outside hostess and tell them about their carry out order. I saw numerous carry out bags flow pass me as I was waiting my 15 mins. So after waiting 20 mins, I asked the hostess abt my order. When she returned she said it was not ready yet. I waited another 10 minutes and I noticed the hostess I spoke to 10 mins ago brought some carry out items and whispered something in the other hostess ear. Soon after, the new hostess approached me and apologized saying my order was going to be another 20 to 30 mins because they had just put the order in. While I love Benihana, what I'm not about to do is get terrible customer service, wait all day, and then pay for it. I'm thinking to myself where is Ashton because I know I'm being punked. I immediately requested my money back. When the manager came to refund my money I told her I come to that location all the time and customer service is usually good. Unsympathetic hostesses jaded from a broken reservation system. We arrived on time for our 8:30 reservation and were told to wait for an available table with no other information. We checked in at 8:50 to see what was going on, and the hostesses then told us they were still seating people with 7:00 reservations, as if we should be more understanding. Either honor your reservations, or get rid of the ability to reserve. It sets a false precedence. Also, if you're that far behind in seating, you should really tell them upfront immediately when a party first checks in. Normally, I'm not this nearly this sensitive on time, but we were celebrating (as many people coming here would be) and our party was inconvenienced. I think Benihana is a great spot for a special fun events like birthdays or anniversaries. In terms of the taste of the food, I would give it a 3. I think people go to this place for the experience. I ordered takeout and I will say I probably won't do that again. The food is good when it is freshly made but something about ordering it as takeout and having the food cold or needing to reheat it on a pan or the microwave just didn't hit the spot for me. I have fond memories of Benihana growing up. It was my late mom's favorite restaurant and we celebrated many birthdays and special events there. There were times when my mom would invite many family members and friends and we would take up four tables. Those were the days. Now that I've been veg@n for almost three years, Benihana isn't exactly a place that I would choose to go to since it's very meat driven. However, I had a free birthday dinner certificate worth $30 so I decided to go and relive my childhood memories. I had been signed up for their birthday club years ago which is why I got a certificate. When we arrived, the place was packed. It always seems to be packed every night of the week. Even though we had reservations on a Tuesday, we still had to wait a bit for our table. If you are veg@n or vegetarian I recommend that you sit in the lounge to get served otherwise the other option is the teppan table where you will see all the meat getting cooked in front of you and you and your clothes will smell like it when it's over. For an appetizer, I went with the vegetable roll which came with green leaf lettuce, avocado, cucumber, tomato, red cabbage and yamagobo (pickled burdock root). It was like salad wrapped up in sushi roll and I enjoyed it and was glad they offered it on the menu. For my entree, I chose the Garden Delight which was asparagus and other fresh vegetables steamed on the grill. Mine came with lotus root, shiitake mushroom, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, tomato, kabocha, sweet potato, and snow peas. The entree also came with onion soup, tofu appetizer, hibachi vegetables, brown rice and green tea. I asked the waitress if the onion soup had a veggie broth and she said no, it was made with chicken and beef broth, so she offered me the miso soup instead. If you avoid butter, you will have to tell them because they slather butter all over the hibachi vegetables (onion, zucchini and mushrooms). My entree was a bit bland since all it was was steamed veggies but having the ginger sauce and soy sauce on the side helped give it more flavor. If I ever come back I may try the other veg option which was a spicy tofu steak. If I didn't have the free $30 certificate, I don't think I'd come back. The place seems so overrated and overpriced. On the other hand, I can see how many people want to celebrate their birthdays there as I once did growing up and it's a plus that you get a free photo. For me Benihana will just be a memory of my past. read more

One of my families favorite celebration destinations! C'mon, you can't beat the onion volcano, or the umbrella drinks. My favorite item is the deluxe treat, lobster tail and filet. I typically ask for the filet to get some if their tasty teriyaki sauce too! Be prepared to wait for your table, as it always seems about 15-30 minutes behind, even though we always have reservations. It's the one with like 5 thick slices of cucumbers in it obviously. :) I ordered one on a whim while I was staying at the Hilton across the street for like a month. I went back multiple times for the same cocktail and even one time made the mistake of ordering something else off the cocktail menu. It was still delicious, but nothing to the magnitude of the Cucumber Collins.
