Possibly one of the worst Benihana experiences we've ever had. We have gone to many locations for years, but this was awful. The cook was terrible, nice guy, but awful food. Let alone no tricks or entertainment whatsoever. Literally none, aside from banging on the grill. Come to find out the staff knows he's bad and others have complained, but they continue to send him out to cook. One of the servers was really nice and had food prepared for us to to go, but when we got home, the food was wrong and also tasted just as bad as the original order. Worst experience ever!!!!! SECURITY FLAGGED US DEMANDING A BALANCE IN OUR CHECK!!! When the server didn't know How to count cash money (Cook was great btw!) Our server Sadie she literally stand behind the grill/table just staring no introduction no mame no nothing she stand in silence waiting for us to tell her our order... got bit weird because she was just standing in silence just staring..... She took our drink order rolling her eyes... she was barely there. Bar drinks came 18 minutes after we ordered, that's fine. Then the cooking part was awesome our chef was fantastic!!!!! Server didn't came back for drinks refills/bar drinks even the chef have to flag her down to come over and get us sauces and drink refills.. as soon the chef was done we pretty much have the plate full with food and Sadie started asking for boxes to go... I told her WE ARE STILL WORKING ON THEM... we will let you know, five minutes after was BOXES TOGO? Again we still working on food we will let you know.... Few minutes after she brought out the check and asked us if we're paying cash or card.... We said both... anyway w send it up paying cash but I knew the 6 courses meal came with desert (I know is just ice cream) but we had to ask the server for it! I decided to give Benihana another try, and fell in love again. The last Benihana I went to was in City of Industry and I had the worst experience. I came to this location a couple days after and the difference was night and day. First off, the old fashioned was made so well. And the interior of this location is so much cuter than the City of Industry one. They have a bar area for you to wait and an outdoor area as well (semi connected to the bar). I had originally made a reservation for 8:45pm, and came early to see if we could sit earlier. We were able to! (: (Apparently they're going through a chef shortage). Also the chef we got was so cool and funny (her name was Sara). She made my experience really great! read more

Unfortunately, this experience was not worth it! The chef was great but the manager, Natalie Balcaceres was awful and rude. We waiting over two hours for food. I talked to the manager regarding a birthday certificate and she was extremely rude. They would not accept it if it wasn't printed....which seems ridiculous to me. While I do understand reading the fine print regarding the birthday certificate (which feels like scamming customers ), I don't believe that Benihana would want to lose customers. We have been coming to Benihana for over 10 years. After this experience, I would not come back nor would I ever recommend this is as a place to celebrate. In regards to the service, we understand it's we are still in a pandemic and staffing storages are very challenging. The waitress and chef were great, but the manger was rude. Worst experience ever besides when they sat my Grandchild at the age of 2 at a high top table. How do I begin my Go daughter made the reservation for 8 on OpenTable. We arrived and was seated in a timely manner. So the server Alexa took our appetizers and drink orders. She then returned and took the meal orders. The chef Alejandro came and began cooking chunks of white rice still in the mix when it was given out. He forgot to add the spicy to my granddaughter's rice and had to put it back on the grill to add the spice. He began to cook the shrimp and usually they slice the appetizers shrimps up but we received them whole having to use the fork to slice them ourselves. He also gave me my jumbo shrimp unsliced and we again had to use our fork. We had two birthdays and we didn't get a picture and they only song to one of the birthday people . Someone from our party asked for ice cream and Alexa told her no because she didn't have the right meal. We have never been told no and she told my granddaughter no a child really. So I gave her half of mines. She brought out cake out with no forks and the part that I feel is extremely unprofessional first the server Alexa cat explain what it mama and laughs and then your manager Lewis .....when asked about the service charge he proceeds to show me on your website where it says it would be added but we made the reservation through open table and it says nothing like that on their site. And as he walks away he says to others at my table I deal with people like that all the time a laughs really. When I go to pay he tells me I can't use my debit card as a charge card why and I was not told that prior to being seated. I was not given a comment card with an option to leave a comment I had to scan someone else's. This is the worst birthday which is an annual thing for my goddaughter and I we are one day apart but I will NEVER eat at your Downey establishment . Your manager needs to learn to table touch and keep side comments to himself. And Alexa your longest running server needs to speak with a better tone, when asked about the ice cream she for funky sounding. She only came to our table at the beginning and the end. I don't mind a service charge but was never told and Alexa said we should have been told . I don't mind tipping hood service but this evenings service was not worth a$70 tip by any means!
