I'm torn between two experiences!! We were there the other day to celebrate a birthday The cook did an amazing job entertaining us and food came out delicious. When the check was brought out I quickly glanced at it when our server brought it to me and I gave her a card to charge it on I didn't want to take away to much time from this special occasion as we were all having a conversation. Didn't feel I needed to inspect every purchase made as we all requested the same dish. I want to make it clear the amount it's not my issue! Is the added items we never requested. I did see my total before signing the merchant receipt didn't think much of it since it's been years since we've been to a Benihana just thought that perhaps prices had went up. I was still going to add a tip, but then seen that a service charge was already added of $122.62 because of the size of our party. Not till later that evening just took a look at the receipt and noticed we were charged for items we never requested. It was very frustrating being that we did go there to celebrate a birthday and for a great experience and of course we know that will cost money. Which is not the issue. But it's not ok to take advantage of that situation and up sale customers on items that were never requested. We were nickel and dime!! Honestly, we haven't been to a Benihana in years and sad to say this experience here is definitely going to keep us away. I did try calling twice the next day to inform management on both occasions i was left on hold for a long period of time. Just hoping that this doesn't happen to other customers.. read more

My family and I frequent the Benihana's in Downey quite often and have never had an issue of any kind. Tonight we were made to wait two hours for a chef to cook our food, only for said chef to have an attitude about whatever as he approached out table. We informed him our child had a peanut allergy and he thought it was funny to joke about him having peanut butter on his cart. Needless to say, we did not think it was funny. The family sitting with us was not pleased with the service and asked to have their bill so they could leave. The server decided to bring our bill as well and charge for everything we did not receive. Our bill totaling $110, for us to only receive our drinks, soup, salad, and one serving of edamame. My family is still unsure why we received our bill seeing as though we did not ask to leave. I can't help but to believe we were all grouped together because of our skin color. I wanted to be sure we weren't being discriminated against so I walked the restaurant and noticed two full tables, seated after us, had their chef and some food on their plate. Not only did I notice this, the table sat 1.5 hours after us had their chef appear two minute after ours. We are very unclear how they received such fast and attentive service while we waited patiently. This was the most disgusting service I have ever received and I am a very lenient person because I once was an assistant manager at a popular hamburger restaurant. The manager did not come one time despite us asking for him numerous times. I am honestly displeased with the service we received and will not ever frequent this restaurant again read more

Was my first experience eating at this establishment and i don't regret it one bit. One of the greatest parts of my night was our waitress Vanessa. She was absolutely wonderful from being very kind and helpful and also suggesting incredible recommendations like the a1 wagyu. I don't think i could have got a more perfect waitress. It was my first time here and i can't wait to return and recommend this location. Whoever that girl was she embodied excellence and what i want every dining experience to be. Being that I'm a weekly visitor in Santa Monica where we get outstanding service even when there back up. I would never recommend this site/location. #1. Greeting , very dry. No welcome and just petty. Decided to sit at the bar being that we own a cleaning business which we're taking a very late lunch. (Completely unaware of any lunch special) we usually always sit at a table. #2 Everyone knows the bartender runs the plate which he simply could not do on his own. We order 2 drinks it took 25 minutes after we already put our order in. Complete the drink there is over 5 members in the bar area. No one's cooking or running food. #3 Finally after 35 minutes gone by. We receive our food. Not to mention no plates ALL our food came in the same one cup. He expressed it was a ounce portion. Our food was cold as hell. How did he know we were a couple. Who says I want to eat with this person you see me order two separate meals with. We didn't need to only pay for the lunch special. If the dinner special would have been a bigger portion. Up selling is the waiters job not the customer. #4 we order vegetable. Ima say it again vegetable fried rice which has vegetables in it. We got regular fried rice told the waiter he expressed " they cook it in one large pan. It's premade " but there's no sign of a pea or carrot or even onion. Moral of the story I've never experienced this ever. Will never return. People should work harder not smarter and don't judge people. He even dismissed a whole family because it was 2 minutes to lunch being over. Horrible. read more

The fact it took them more than 3 months to respond to a review about their dinner was too slow it simply AMAZINGLY accurate as to the kind of customer service you can expect. Response was cut-off, but I imagine they are asking us to message them through their corporate website, which we did back in June... and NEVER heard back from. Didn't even get an offer for dessert or anything had to ask for it. And when she brought it her damn finger was in it. So we asked for another and when she brought it back was literally a bite of it looks like she just scooped out whatever she touched and just brought it back to our the same one. The whole time looks like she had an attitude. The other 5 guests that was with us even left and she didn't even know. We had to ask the other server for stuff since she was no where to be found. But thank you for our cook and the other server for your service. If that girl didn't want to work or don't need a job then she shouldn't have work. This has to be the worst restaurant i have EVER been to. Where do i begin.... Our dinner came before the appetizers and rice came at the end. Now for the food ordered the steak and i tell you the pepper shaker lid must gave fell off. There was so much pepper couldn't eat my dinner. The manager both of them came over to replace the dinner i told them both. NO PEPPER. So my dinner comes out and guess what was all over the plate. Yup PEPPER So they took my dinner off the bill. We didn't get to try this location, we had reservations set for 8:15 and still the wait was 1 hour, and that was for every reservation, some said they had waited 2 hrs even. Their service is terrible, the hosts have no idea how to handle things and the restaurant has no idea how to prioritize reservations and walk ins. They need training. read more

Do not bother ordering ahead. This is my second time ordering online then coming to pick up my food at the time the email said it would be ready just to be told it will be an extra 10-15 mins. I have this another shot because my first online experience was just as bad and nope this is just not the way to go. And then nothing except a sorry it's not done is what you get.
