So first off, heard that Benihanas was wonderful so was expecting a great experience... in return got a terrible show and over priced by a lot! Not only was our food unseasoned and cold since the cook (Moy) cooked every item separate and by the time everyone got their food half of our food was cold! The show he put on was very poorly, no saki for the crowd, no vegetable throwing, and hardly any interaction with the crowd. I think a goldfish could've gotten the attention of the table better. Our waiter (Wing-lan) also gave us our check and after we left a tip already she asked for a bigger tip, that is just something you simply never do... very rude and ungrateful if you ask me. I didn't have the highest expectations considering this is a chain restaurant, but unfortunately, my family's experience didn't exactly meet my minimum requirements. Too bad as this was my five year old's very first hibachi experience. While awaiting our table in the bar area (despite a reservation), I couldn't help but notice the entire restaurant was really outdated and in need of some serious TLC. Our bar area table was even a little dirty, to the point we wiped it down ourselves. We also decided to order a few pre-dinner drinks, but it took a long time my wife's cocktail was watered down, an insult for the price. At least my Saporo was cold & frothy. Within 15-20 mins of arriving, we were seated in an odd back area of the restaurant. It felt like an annex of sorts, with an "ambiance" that was no where near as pleasant as the main dining area. And this particular area was also quite smoky with less than sufficient ventilation. Not cool. The chef was average, same ole performance. The food itself was overly salty (MSG overload!) and the portioned out chicken cutlets were chewy and honestly inedible. Everyone at our table seemed to agree. The soup, salad and entrée (besides the nasty chicken) were average at best. For the price, our table was completely underwhelmed. Anyhow, we won't be coming back to this location anytime soon. Despite the website stating that lunch is served from open to 3pm, we went in at 1:45-2ish and were not given regular menus and told "we're not serving lunch right now" despite the fact that we were within the time frame to order lunch. Their lunch special pricing is half of their dinner pricing and it is only worth it to eat here during lunch hours. It is not worth paying $40 compared to $24 for slightly above average food. Highly recommend calling ahead of time to guarantee that you be served lunch, otherwise take your business elsewhere. They probably deserve it more anyways read more

I celebrated my 50th birthday here on yesterday with a family of 5. And the food was awful no flavor, the vegetables were mushy. The little amount of food they gave you for the price was a rip off. Good food, good ambiance. Very very busy, and kinda pricey. Would recommend sticking to special occasions only. I had the "Benihana Excellence" with chicken fried rice. The teriyaki sauce was great and the steak was pretty tender. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and I really enjoyed the soup and green tea included with the meal. Disappointed that you only get one small scoop of ice cream for dessert though... while our chef seemed pretty talented, the "show" aspect left much to be desired. I came to Benihana's to celebrate my husband birthday and we both surprised they did not have the egg yolk nor the garlic bread that goes on top of the lobster or shrimp . The rice that's is usually given with the meal at other restaurant here at Benihana's you have to pay extra for the stir fry rice. What I enjoyed the most of my server and cook they were very nice and polite. I do not eat mushrooms no more so the cook gave my mushrooms to my husband. Man this palace has gone downhill. Went there as a group of 4 with a reservation. When I made it last week I told the lady 3 of us were celebrating our birthdays that are a couple of days apart. First time EVER we weren't asked if it was a special occasion during the waiter introduction but I figured they didn't ask bc they could see the gift bags and I mentioned it on the phone. One of the gift bags was obnoxiously huge so it was pretty hard to miss. The waiter was eh, the chef was fine but the busman was grabbing the empty sauce bowls and placing his thumb INSIDE of them touching the bottom of the inside of the dish for two of us. There was a communication issue so two of us just didn't eat the sauce with our meal. I asked the waiter if they sell jars of the salad dressing and I was excited when he said yes. I was VERY disappointed when he brought a plastic container that's used for carry out soup- not an actual sealed jar. No expiration date, no packaged date which has me wondering if it can even be sold that way. I was going to give it as a cute gift- but I'd be embarrassed to give that to anyone. Very odd. They say you can judge a restaurant by the bathroom. We should have left once we saw the disgusting bathroom- and keep in mind this was a lunch, so they just opened. This meal has been a tradition for probably the last 25 years. Next year we have to find a new place. Luckily for us there are many restaurants in oak brook and Lombard that can nail a lunch. My daughter love hibachi...I mean LOVE it. We celebrated her 9th bday here with a couple of her friends due to Covid. They're a solid spot for hibachi, but unless you're coming for lunch they can be a bit pricey, especially if you're in a large group. There are other hibachi places that are more reasonable so I feel you're just paying for the name of Benihana and also because they are like one of the original hibachi style sit down restaurants. The restaurant was following Covid procedures well and that I can appreciate. It's only you and your group at the tables, not unknown people like it usually is and that I didn't mind at all. The food presentation is always cool, the kids love it. Now one thing that is non existent is alcohol in their mixed drinks, forget about it. You will be disappointed. Just order a shot. Food and the portions are good and I always enjoy the soup and salad they add to all orders. It's something about that ginger salad I must admit. We had my sisters birthday dinner here last night and it was fantastic! I had the ocean delight (might not be the right name, Ocean something) a combo of shrimp, scallops and lobster all the seafood was cooked perfectly. My fiancé had the chatuabriand which was also cooked perfectly. The rest of our family had shrimp and chicken and every was very impressed with the quality and quantity of their meals. We go out for hibachi all the time but haven't been to a Benihana's in years. We decided to come here so my sister could get her drink in a ceramic cat that she could take home haha and Benihana's has a great alcohol selection as compared to most hibachi restaurants. My family visited the Lombard location on 12-26-2018 with a 3pm reservation. We were extremely disappointed with the serve and the cook. We definitely did not get the Benihana experience. The waitresses (2) and the cooks appeared to be bothered and uninterested in doing there job. Our table waited over a half hour for the cook to show up. The soup and salad was finished and still no cook. Drinks were not refilled until another waitress from another table came to do so. The final and most disappointing factor to this is that the original waitress presented me with my bill with the word tip circled. That ilos very unprofessional and tacky. Our family of 3 passed several hibachi restaurants to travel all the way to Lombard for the Benihana experience and we did not experience it. I later found out from the manager that due to the holiday they are usually closed from 2:30 to 5pm but allowed us to dine with only 3 waitress for the entire restaurant. That was very poor planning on Benihana. My family spent close to $200 for one of the worst dining experiences ever. I hope Benihana does better for other customers. read more

My son loves Benihana so we will splurge to get meals but on the last two take outs they have left off items we paid for and it's too far to go back. On this last order we paid extra for fried rice and didn't receive it this time or last. We always order extra but when we order it with the meal they leave it out. Bought 2 hibachi meals and received sauces and salad for one. I wasn't charged extra for the sauces but we assumed the salad came with each meal. For the price they are now charging for a meal perfection should be their goal on take out. Tried calling but Friday nights are impossible to get someone.
