I always enjoy my dinners at Benihana. Yesterday was a grandson/grandma date so I took my 4 year old grandson because that's his favorite restaurant. I gave it 4 stars simply because the service was ƙ yesterday. Usually, it's a bit better. Especially, when the table behind us are doing song alongs & things. That's the kinda vibe I like and am used to. Anyway, the food was really good. I told the person (which I've had b4 and he was always good but maybe he was just off today) for extra garlic butter on everything & it always does the trick. So good the food was really good. The waitress was slow & wasn't as attentive as they usually are. Actually, before leaving the couple next to us warned us to look at the bill properly because they had issues & she seemed really focused on tips. Visited Benihana with a party of 8 (5 adults and 3 children). Despite our table already being full, the host, Carly, attempted to seat an additional guest at our table. When I politely questioned why another person was being added when there was clearly no extra space, I was met with an attitude and told that it was "not a private party" and that she could seat people wherever she wanted. I understand that Benihana commonly seats multiple parties together, but customer service and communication matter. A simple explanation would have been fine. Instead, the interaction felt dismissive and unnecessarily confrontational. The chefs and food were great, but the experience started on a negative note because of how this situation was handled. I hope management addresses the customer service aspect so future guests are treated with more professionalism and respect. read more

We had a 5:45PM reservation to celebrate a birthday for an eight year old.. and waited by the entrance/bar area for an entire hour. That completely defeats the purpose of making a reservation. If reservations are going to be treated like walk-ins, why have them? We also had a four year old who needs to wind down/be in bed around 8:30PM, which made the long wait even more frustrating. The waiting area was very crowded and the kids were surrounded by adults having drinks and there was little communication from staff about the delay. They kept telling us they were cleaning the table.. for an hour. After 45 minutes, one of us went across the street to get food for the little ones. Literally an hour later at 6:42pm, our table was ready but we decided to leave since the kids already ate and they had to wind down. Amazing experience at Benihana, especially since I've haven't been back in years. Excellent service and delicious food. You usually sit with other guests while dining since it was only 2 of us, but we had the space to ourselves which was nice and intimate. My friend and I enjoyed the cool tricks from Chef Richard, my favorites were the knife juggling and the flaming onion ring volcano. For cocktails, I had the lychee blossom martini and my friend had the haiku colada. Both drinks were so refreshing. We had the Wagyu of the World menu that comes with onion soup, salad, hibachi shrimp appetizer, hibachi vegetables, A5 Japanese wagyu tokyo broil served with wagyu fried rice, Japanese hot tea, and ice cream or sherbet. I visited Benihana for the first time in years and it was better than I remembered! The entry way is calm and peaceful, but the restaurant comes to life upstairs. It was packed this Tuesday. My friends and I enjoyed the 6 course wagyu special and it was phenomenal. The mushroom soup was balanced and delish, the salad dressing was to die for, and each subsequent course from the veggies to the friend rice to the steak (the Australian cut is the best!) were all phenomenal. After having heard about this hibachi chain for quite some time and only had hibachi once in my life as a student at my local college town, I finally got to cross this spot off of my list. I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised how great the experience was, which was definitely assisted by our very attentive waitress and awesome hibachi chef. Our waitress (can't remember her name, grrrr) really help guide us through the menu, especially since it was our first time for all of us at a Benihana. She even had a display case of all of the meats to show us for their special Wagyu of the World menu. There were options where we were also allowed to substitute. She walked through all of that patiently. Props to her. Our hibachi chef, Saha, made our group's experience great. Super interactive and made a lot of dad jokes to keep the group engaged. Most importantly, our food tasted great. I ordered from their Wagyu of the World, which is a 6 course meal that starts out with an Onion Soup and Benihana Salad. The hibachi chef makes the shrimp appetizer, hibachi vegetables & mushroom, and the steak of your choice. I chose the A5 Japanese Tokyo Broil ($61) medium-rare. Surprisingly the other options were more expensive. We also got a side order of Wagyu Steak Fried Rice ($23) to share with the group, which was super delicious. The fried rice is a signature dish at hibachi and is a must order. Lastly, this also came with dessert, which was a choice of three different flavored ice cream, sherbet, or three different flavors of mochi ice cream. I had to go with the green tea ice cream (basic me). Needless to say, I was stuffed at this point. Yes, I paid around $80 including tax and tip for this experience. This may sound a lot, but I think it's one of those things you do once in a blue moon, like going to Disneyworld. It's expensive, but it's fun to do with a group of friends or with your kids. This was my first experience at a Benihana. I've only ever been to hibachi once prior to this so this is very new for me. It's an interesting set up to have the seating and it makes sense to maximize the area especially if you have a smaller group. This though means that you have to be cautious of your conversations of the people nearby as well as any dietary restrictions that could influence your food. Additionally, I guess the nature of this type of place brings a lot of kids, and I felt that they were running around a lot especially around the hot grill, which poses a danger. I go to Benihana's at least once a year every year around my birthday because I receive a birthday coupon. As you know, this is not truly authentic Japanese Teppanyaki, but that's not really the point. You go for the hokey silly vibes and the food is actually quite decent. I'm a little bougie and I always get steak and lobster and it's always been great. This isn't your fancy steakhouse, but the meat is of decent quality and who doesn't like a dinner with a show? ALWAYS order the chicken fried rice on the hibachi grill because that really is one of the best things they have. For drinks I always get a Sapporo draft or a bottle of the Sugeui (Drunken Whale) sake. Honestly, the whole meal is just fun from start to finish. It can get really rowdy in there especially on Thursday nights filled with birthday groups who do sake bombs and wear chef hats. The reason you go to Hibachi is the showmanship and entertainment. This was lackluster. No flames, no tricks, just a chef cooking with bad jokes (and I'm a dad). The food taste was fine, but not great (especially for the price). The hibachi chef cooked each item separately and not all at the same time, so your plate was not the combination of food that you ordered, just small portions at a time. And the portion sizes are what really shocked us all. For all the Hibachi locations we've been to, you are always overloaded with food that you either need to roll out, or take food home. I love this location is beautiful and has so many seating options. The manager is great and truly accommodating. I see servers and chefs working very hard side to side and see a great team spirit. No knives are used, and all food now arrives pre-cut. The vegetables--never the highlight--have been reduced to onions and mushrooms, and the spatula strikes the table only once. While the signature heart-shaped fried rice and onion-volcano performances remain, the beloved chop-choo train and the infamous "pee-pee, squirt guy" acts have been retired. Even birthdays have lost their spark. What was once a full-staff serenade complete with a Polaroid keepsake in a Benihana frame is now a half-hearted solo by your server. Came here with a group and had reservations at the hibachi tables. We started off with drinks and ordered the blue ocean and Benihana punch. Their drinks are very refreshing and fruity. I ordered the 5 course hibachi shrimp and it came with mushroom onion soup, salad, 3 piece shrimp appetizer, sautéed shrimp in butter and lemon and green tea. Our chef was very entertaining while he was cooking our food in front of us. I really enjoyed my shrimp, and he gave me lots of shrimp pieces. We also ordered wagyu hibachi and it was still cold when the chef plated it, so we asked him to cook it some more and it still tasted very rare although we asked for medium rare. Even the mushrooms that came with it needed to be cooked longer. The spicy tofu was bland, undercooked and spicy at the same time. He did not cook the tofu long enough. The steak was ok, but the fried rice was delicious. I also liked the yum yum sauce and the ginger sauce that came with your choice of protein. It seemed like our chef was in a hurry with so many things being undercooked. Service was good. Overall an ok experience. read more

We tried out the Be the Chef experience where they'll let you suit up and become the Benihana chef! I took an hour long training class then cooked up a Surf n Turf meal for 5 of my friends. It was such an incredible experience!! I heard heard about this program over a year ago but couldn't find much information about it online. The package is $300 for 5 guests + 1 chef. It comes with a cooking class for the chef where you will cook up the Surf n Turf meal (fried rice, steak and shrimp). You get to eat your test meal before you repeat at 5x the volume to cook for your guests who arrive after your class. Value-wise, the package wasn't far off from the normal retail price of the Surf n Turf meal, so it felt like a free cooking class. My chef instructor did a great job of teaching me some of his tricks. You don't learn the crazy trick shots, but you will practice flipping a shrimp tail into your hat and get to light up the onion volcano. When it came to showtime, our group couldn't stop laughing. I didn't tell them about being the guest chef so it was definitely a fun surprise. Plus, the food was really good! It was also served with miso/salad appetizers and ice cream dessert. I loved this experience and am so happy to have shared it with friends. My only comment is that the reservation process was incredibly hard. I had emailed and called months in advance to reserve my desired date and never heard back. I went in person to inquire and they told me to use the email again. After letting them know I was never getting a response, they brought someone from reservations to speak with me. I was aiming for the first week of December but was sad to hear that they do not permit bookings for the month of December due to the holiday season. It seemed like the blocked dates would change mid conversation so I'd suggest that management is aligned on bookable dates to avoid confusion. Eventually we settled on a date in January and that worked out. It was then later hard to confirm pricing through email but finally got it confirmed just weeks before the event. Overall, the experience was fantastic and will be a fun memory. I got to take home the hat and apron and they gave me a Benihana certificate of completion. Welp, I guess we should start at the beginning. Our server was admittedly new to the location so I don't think even he could have curtailed the liminal weirdness coming from this experience. We were seated in a dark corner table away from the main dining area. The walls were grimy and dingy, the carpet threadbare and even the chair covers were cracking and peeling. The server wasn't terribly familiar with the menu yet, so we had a really hard time trying to figure out what the vegetarian in our group could eat. The fun part was when the actual chef came out. He started off by berating the waiter and serving up a steaming bowl of awkwardness as they yelled at each other in front of us. Very charming. The chef was pissed off from the start and seemed like he wanted to be anywhere but at Benihana's. Within a few minutes we were feeling the same. No patter, no tricks beyond the somewhat entertaining fireball. We had to watch over his shoulder at the other chefs having fun and spinning eggs and laughing while we just felt punished. The food was darn near inedible it was so salty and our vegetarian just ended up not eating anything. Most moments when the chef wasn't there, the server kept asking us if we'd be interested in joining the benefit programs of Benihana. I swear it was at least 3 times. I had a feeling the manager kept telling him to do it. He didn't want to be there anymore, that was pretty clear. I truly hope he quit after this and has since found a much more fulfilling job. Cheering for you buddy. This place felt toxic as heck. Everything was charred and greasy and the leftovers we took home ended up being thrown out immediately. Hey, but they did end up taking our picture a few times (why did multiple people need our picture??) and then gave our small family of four SIX framed pictures to take home. My coworker wanted to celebrate her birthday at Benihana. I've only been to one hibachi restaurant and that was a long time ago. We made reservations, which was the smart move because it was crowded. We checked in and we were seated within five minutes. There were four of us in our party and we shared the table with another party (also four people). For drinks, I got the sake rose sangria, the others got a Cosmo, rose and a Japanese soda. For entrées, I got the splash n meadow (shrimp and steak) and upgraded the rice for a chicken fried rice. The meal also came with soup, salad and ice cream. The ginger dressing was so good. The birthday girl comes here often and highly recommended extra garlic butter. I'm glad that I listened because the garlic butter gave the food such delicious flavor. As for the ice cream--I got vanilla and one of my colleagues got the green tea ice cream.
