We went on Valentine's Day and the place was packed. We had a reservation but still had to wait 10+ minutes to be seated. This venue is extremely run down. They only had two bathrooms but they were filthy and ran out of toilet paper and towels and no one seemed to clean them during the 3 hours we were there. It took over two hours from when we sat to get our main entrees. The bread was pretty terrible and nothing special made fresh. Shockingly for the entrees they served burned lobster - twice. It was very clearly burned and the server did not bat an eye to put it down. I had to send back the first one which I never do. The second plate was in slightly better shape so I ate one lobster tail but it was tough and robbery. I gave the second more burned tail to my friend. The mashed potatoes were absolutely tasteless. The creamed spinach looked gross and I could not eat it. I ordered the tomato and mozzarella appetizer and it was extremely oily but otherwise had no flavor; the tomato was mushy and no umami flavor. It took them forever to fill our water glasses. The best part of the meal was the dessert but the ice cream was very boring and nothing special. I overheard other waiters offering flavors to different tables, flavors not on the menu- which sounded better than the lackluster chocolate we had. Not sure why some customers were offered coconut and mango and we could only get chocolate or vanilla. Sadness. For $500 for two people there are way better options out there. No worth the price and frankly at any price the food was terribly disappointing. Also, the clientele were extremely rowdy as the night wore on, very loud and there was zero crowd control, especially in the front foyer. No one was monitoring the coat rack in the front either. In NYC - and the urge to have a good steak comes up almost every night. Our regular spot was too busy with a 1 hour wait, so we decided to find something new or untried. Royal 35 seem to be able to get us a table immediately so we made our trek there. This place has a slightly older style steakhouse vibe, but not too old. We got seated in the rear main dining area that was cozy for our meal. Started off with some cocktails - the Manhattan was well put together. Nothing too fancy but just right. Next came the apps - we went for some oysters and wedge salad. Oyster were fine - nothing spectacular, but the wedge salad was really good. It's a big serving and I ended up sharing it with my friend. In comes the main course. I needed my steak medium rare, and they go it right (somehow in NYC the chefs always get it right). Had the bone in, and it was a pretty big chunk of meat. Hit a wall at 80% - but it was very satisfying. Good and attentive service. Kind of sad that they were not really busy when we went there - a big contrast to the other place that had an hour wait. Kinda run down place but the food was good. Complimentary bread basket had some stale ish slices of a mish mosh of stuff and they gave you cold butter packets. Wine pours are top tier Lemon drop martini was salted rim and tasted a little Margarita esque but it was fine. Crab cake app was nice. Big chunks of crab with 2 sauces and crispy outside. French onion soup was decadent. The cheese just pulled and pulled and pulled. The broth could've been a little richer and a little saltier from my liking, but it was nice. We shared a fillet and when they came out, I thought they had misheard because that thing was massive. We each probably got 6 ounces. Very well seasoned tasted great. Solid yet Pricey Steakhouse in the Theater District! I celebrated a 35th birthday with dinner here. We arrived at our reservation time and were promptly seated. They also had stand alone high chairs which was plus. We skipped the appetizers and went straight to the meat of the meal... the Porterhouse Steak for Two which was a good serving of nicely aged beef. The quality of beef used is undeniably solid but the flavor could have been better accentuated with more seasoning. Usually some of the 'au jus' drizzled over it would correct that but this was not the case. The sides were also solid not spectacular; we went with Sautéed Asparagus and Mac & Cheese. The Mac & Cheese was good but also missing that next level seasoning throughout. I would say the same of the Twin Lobster Tails. The price was not reflective my overall satisfaction with our meal. Royal 35 is amazing steakhouse with old school vibes. Decided to try Royal 35 for my birthday after seeing it spoken about on social media. I am happy it lived up to the hype. The hostess and wait staff were friendly and patient. We ate on the first floor in the room toward the back. The room gives an intimate feel as there were other couples having dinner and/or families. Was quiet, not a loud party vibe. You could hold a good conversation with your table without feeling as though you had to shout. Upon leaving staff said their goodbyes. I am not sure if it was the manager or owner, but he made sure to speak up as we were leaving to make sure we enjoyed our meal. Husband and I got drinks, Cesar salad, porterhouse steak for two, veggies, and macaroni and cheese. Lets just get down to the nitty gritty. The steak, and its presentation, were perfect. Perfectly cooked to desired temperature, perfectly seasoned, perfectly juicy and tender. On a recent trip to the city for a weekend of plays my wife and I choose the 35 based on a friend recommendation and proximity to the theatre district. The menu and service were as expected, Top Shelf. The gold and yellow of the dinning area felt warm on the rainy winter day we arrived. My wife and I split an appetizer of crab dip and house salad before our ribeye arrived. The meat was cooked perfect and the aging made it even more tender with generous marbling for best taste ability. The wine list meet our expectations with a few wines below $100 per bottle and many to select by the glass. We can't wait to visit again. read more

My friend is a regular at Royal 35 and suggested we have drinks and dinner here several weeks ago. I can understand the appeal, as the food is delicious and the drinks are strong (in the best way). We shared the Royal 35 salad, baked clams, fried calamari, and lobster mac 'n' cheese. The salad was a nice balanced mix of greens, goat cheese, dried cranberries, and pecans. The calamari was perfectly tender and crispy, and the baked clams were laid out on a tasty lemon sauce. The lobster mac was creamy and delicious with generous chunks of lobster. There are so many great adjectives to describe this restaurant. I came on a Wednesday at 6pm for a party of 4. We were greeted and seated right away. Covid protocols were in place. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. Customer service was great. The manager checked in on us twice. I appreciated that extra added value to our dinner. Let's start with the delicious drinks. They were all good. The Royal 35 Martini, Royal 35 Cosmo, Sherif's Old Fashion and LI Iced tea did not disappoint. They were the perfect strength and just so good. Shout out to the bartender. Now to the food....EVERYTHING was delicious. Probably one of the best steaks I had in the city. The value was just so so amazing. It was nearly impossible to finish a T-bone steak and Caesar salad with four people. We had reservations for a special occasion, requesting a booth, etc., etc.. We got there and the woman at the front desk gave our reserve seat to somebody that came in a few minutes earlier. Then they wanted to see us in the walkway near the front door. These people are so stupid. I just said forget it walked out and went to our old reliable source. This place was a disappointment to us. The evening before, we'd had dinner at Gallagher's and we were craving another steak. An internet search turned up photos of meats here at Royal 35 being aged in the same manner as Gallagher's, so we decided to come here. The host (who may also have been the manager) greeted us and was very jolly and charming. We would really have liked one of the comfy-looking booths just past the host stand, but unfortunately all were occupied. Instead he took us into the larger, more open dining room at the back where there were 2 large parties, one of probably 40 people and other with a group of about 8, and he showed us to a table for 2 over in the far corner. The decor and ambiance of the dining room is a bit odd here. The large glass-enclosed wine rack at the back is cool, but there are no windows and the plain white ceiling and patterned, dark green wallpaper just make it feel like it needs some artwork and maybe a few mirrors to break things up and not feel so closed in. The music they were playing that had a pumping bass line was out of place with the decidedly older, classic looking decor. We were forgotten about for a while, until a server came in to check on the much larger group and his body kind of jolted as he realized we'd been seated. From then on, service was fine, though he rarely smiled. We decided to forego appetizers and ordered the prime NY strip steak and the seabass, and planned to share both those entrees. We also ordered mac and cheese as a side and a moderately-priced bottle of malbec. While the steak was served to our table still sizzling away, none of the dishes or items we were served could be considered "perfect", especially considering the price point. The steak and the accompanying red sauce were better at Gallagher's the night before, for less cost. The sea bass served on a bed of mashed potatoes was good but not outstanding, and the mac & cheese could have used some more time in the oven to form a crust on top. The wine was OK, but all the wines we were familar with on the list here were way overpriced. The malbec we ordered was certainly not worthy of the $70 that Royal 35 charged for it. As we were dining, the larger group of about 40 left, and the smaller group of 8 remained. They stood up and started walking and dancing around and were loud, rowdy, had bright lights they were using to shoot video and social media posts, and they spent time putting their legs and feet up on the linen-covered dining tables and chairs, shaking their asses, screaming and laughing, yelling and acting like school children..But they were adults, in what's billed as a classy restaurant where we were paying $75 for a steak without sides. After they left, the server and the host/manager both came separately to apologize to us for the actions of that group, but at no point did any of them discourage their actions or suggest they go elsewhere where their activity may have been more appropriate. The final slap came when they presented our bill, we were still enjoying 1/2 full glasses of wine, and the staff here shut off the background music, making us feel unwelcome and encouraged to leave. Again, they were happy to permit the other group to scream like banshees while shaking their asses throughout the dining area for their cameras, but we weren't able to finish sipping our glasses of wine before being run out and the music stopped. I never mind paying good $$ for quality food and service in a nice restaurant with charming ambiance. Royal 35 had none of those things, the meal was far from perfect and yet our bill before gratuity came to $242. So not worth it and I cannot recommend this restaurant to others. You'll find better food, higher quality steaks and better service elsewhere for less cost. read more

I took my boyfriend here for this birthday. I wanted to go somewhere more off the grid and this did not disappoint. The staff was very hospitable from the moment we stepped in. We were seated and taken care of promptly. Our waiter was wonderful and accommodating. We got the shrimp cocktail and oysters to start and the waiter combined them both into a platter to make it easier to enjoy. I had a cosmopolitan. It was pretty good. I had the petite filet and it was so tender, practically melted in my mouth. We ordered Mac and cheese and broccoli to share. Everything was absolutely delicious. The ambiance was quite nice. It seems to be a place frequented by regulars. Not too crowded and the the time, Covid restrictions were in place and handled well. For me , the energy has to match the food; and boyyyyyyyyy...they did not disappoint! Visited for lunch after going to Morgan Library/Museum. There was a prix fixed lunch for $39 included soup or salad, entree and dessert with tea or coffee. From moment we arrived were greeted with friendly and efficient service by the manager and then by server Ash and runner Omar. Ash answered some questions and took order first course was French Onion Soup. Great ratio of broth to onions with perfect amount of bread and toasty melted cheese so good. Entrees were Scallops with Risotto and petite Filet and a side of Mushrooms. The 3 Scallops were perfectly cooked melt in the mouth, Risottowas soft but not mushy and the light lemony sauce pulled everything together. The petit filet was falsely advertised in a good way it was cooked to perfection and the side of mushrooms were good but not needed since the filet was so good. Dessert was cheesecake and chocolate mouse cake both were excellent. Omar kept drinks filled and brought tea out prior to dessert service. Ash and Omar are a great team. The Dining Room is comfortable well decorated. On way to Dining Room is the Aged Beef which is a nice touch for a steakhouse. Will be back when visit NYC. read more
