Cinco de Mayo at Cuerno~ Best Meal in NYC! Its been awhile since we spent a few days here in NYC. We came here for our anniversary (CInco de Mayo) and to see the Broadway play Death Becomes Her. So, when searching for the best Mexican restaurant, Cuerno came up frequently. High ceilings, beautiful interior, comfortable seats, and so much more. Seated at a huge round table that could fit 3 more, our friendly server came over and we ordered some cocktails. Well, I had a beautiful Sparkling Rose from Mexico----I know! Mexico makes some really nice wines:) My husband had the classic Margarita to celebrate our Anniversary and Cinco de Mayo. Let me just tell you the food was probably one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to. It is also a Steakhouse too. To start, they bring over a few salsa dips along with thier Homemade chips. Some were better than others as well as the heat meter (some more mild than others), but I personally loved most of them if not all. Their Guacomole is amazing! We also ordered their grilled corn (Esquites) and a Taco Taquero. Everything was amazing including the Coffee. I think we were so full so we opted out of dessert. If you have never been here before I highly recommend checking it out while visiting NYC. You will love it! read more

Good place for a business lunch if you want high end Mexican in a nice setting. They have a reasonably priced lunch set menu which was very good. Service was also good though at the end the server disappeared without offering coffee and tea with our desert. Worth keeping in the rotation for business meals, a nice change from the other standbys in the neighborhood. read more

My boyfriend wanted a date night (as usual--and I can never say no), so we tried Casa Enrique near his job. We didn't have reservations, so we were seated downstairs, which isn't as nice as the upstairs area--but it was still fine for a casual night out. The food and service were both great. We ordered chips with sauces, ceviche, branzino, and steak. Everything was flavorful and well-prepared, but the standout for me was definitely the cauliflower--it was so good and honestly the highlight of the meal. Drinks were just okay--mine wasn't my favorite, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. Overall, I'd definitely come back again, but next time I'd make a reservation since this place gets pretty busy, even during the week. read more

Complimentary chips and salsa were really good. They came at the same time as our taco richi and cauliflower appetizer. The taco was great with the meat really standing out and the cauliflower was tasty with the cream sauce and pistachios. The ribeye con tuatero was excellent too. It was really salty in parts, we think due to the bone marrow juice. The pastel de campechano is an ice cream cake and huge. We couldn't finish it. Very creative, I don't know how they kept the layers so crispy. The only disappointing item was the suerito, it wasn't as refreshing as the ones we've had in Mexico, perhaps not enough sparkling water. read more

We had a fantastic meal at Cuerno! We loved the chips and salsa they provided at the beginning of the meal. We also got the broccoli and queso fundido to start, both of which I'd highly recommend. The chorizo in the queso was the best I've ever had. The flavor was exceptionally well-balanced. I also got the ribeye taco which my husband got the branzino tacos. Both were very good. Everything was pretty tasty for sure. Nothing blew my mind, I think a 4.5 is more fair than 4. The cauliflower dish was my favorite, very decadent and perfectly seasoned. Love the crunch from pistachios. The Arrachera Norteña was also of great quality meat and flavors were top notch. The branzino tacos were just okay, regret getting them compared to some other taco options. Chicken breast on salad was dry but edible. Loved the chicarron croutons. Overall had a great time. The Rib Eye à la Sal was as good as any steak served by the finest steakhouses. The Taco Richi was also great as was the Queso Fundido. The Tacos de Branzino was disappointing. OMG-- this was the best!! We went to their Polanco Masaryk location during the evening. We got the Rib Eye steak, Haburguesa Cuerno, Tacos de Filet con Tuetano and Frijoles con Veneno. Everything was cooked with perfection, the frijoles con venono and the tueno were unbelievable! Service was superb and the ambiance was very trendy and lively. I was a bit underwhelmed here. The guacamole and broccoli appetizers were bland, and the steak in the tacos (both taco callejeras and taco richi) was dry. The cauliflower and hamachi were amazing. We got too full of appetizers to try any of the steak entrees, so maybe that would've been better. We did try each of the four desserts, three of which I loved. The pastel de campechanas was my favorite, and the mango and vanilla ice cream were also good. The chocolate cake was a bit dry though. The ambience is very nice, and it was easy to book a reservation for a group of eight. The service was very nice too. It's fine for a business meal, which is probably what they cater to. read more

We ate here a second time in two days. The food and service was all great again. Our server from yesterday came over to say hello and then informed our server that day JF all the allergies we had. When we went to tell our waiter, Chris, who was also fantastic told us he had already been told and recited them back to us the place was packed tonight and there was a definite buzz of conversation in the air but no so much noise you couldn't hold a conversation. This place is such a gem! Beautiful inside and you are constantly greeted and checked on by various staff members. This was my first time visiting and I will be back for sure! Drinks - I had the Cuerno Margarita which was very good and had a kick to it. My friend had a smoked guava drink which she loved. Food - I did the lunch menu and had the vegetable, branzino, and banana dessert. All were amazing but the branzino was phenomenal. So flavorful and melts in your mouth. But dropping a star because service we got from our waiter was terrible in our last trip--normally I would give a restaurant another chance but it was bad enough for me to drop a star as it ruined our dining experience significantly. Rest of the staff were great. Just our waiter. He was not to be found for long periods of time. He didn't notice whether our bottled water was empty (strange because most restaurants over pour water to make you buy more). One of the best dinners I've had in a long time. My complaints are small and nitpicking because I don't always trust reviews that are too positive. First they start you off with some complimentary chips with a flight of salsas that knocked my socks off. And let me say, I've had chips all over, from here to Mexico, from street carts to Michelin-starred restaurants. The chips at Cuerno are the best I've ever had. One of the salsas we could only explain as a burst of citrus hitting your mouth before the slow heat builds after. It's wonderful. Even my wife, who isn't into spice at all, was able to enjoy it. DRINKS: For some reason, we never got any complimentary drinks. Maybe because we ordered drinks from the menu, not sure, but my wife was disappointed she didn't get to try the frozen margs that other tables were getting. My wife ordered a hibiscus margarita and I ordered the tamalindo, which I expected to have more tamarindo flavor, so I was a little disappointed with mine. My wife's marg was strong but tasty. FOOD: We started with the cauliflower and Tacos Callejeros. My wife was scared seeing habanero-truffle on the menu, but the cauliflower was not spicy at all. It is as delicious as everyone says, but my wife isn't the biggest fan of charcoal flavor, so she felt it overpowered the dish a bit. I enjoyed it with no complaints. The Tacos Callejeros were an unexpected hit. I'm not sure what I expected, but these tacos had a rich beef-stew flavor that was very homey and comforting. The salsa verde, which my wife was hesitant about, tasted so good that she was spooning it onto her tacos. For our main, we shared the Rib Eye a la Sal, and it was on par with some of the best steakhouses we've tried. The esquites were great. I'm a big fan of esquites, and it's tough to elevate this dish, but there was a good amount of flavor throughout. I just wish there had been a tiny bit more kick. The mashed potatoes were... mashed. What can one say? They were good. Service was okay. Staff was attentive, and our server had a really chill vibe that we appreciated. I just wish we had received those comp drinks like everyone else around us, because that would've made the dinner a full five stars for us. It's rare that I want to return to a restaurant in NYC. There are just so many to try that I usually prefer trying a new spot, even after a great dinner. But with Cuerno, I was already planning my next visit as soon as I started getting full. Staff were very eager to please and take time to explain anything and everything though they tended to stear us towards the more "gringo" items (I mean we are gringo) but it's important to go with your gut (literally) when making selections at a new destination. Never had bone marrow incorporated in my tacos and they were lux (did they need to be cut up in front of me? Meh). Salsitas and chips were as different and wonderful as the next (fave was spicy jalapeño one). Drinks were great from frozen mango marg to crisp rose. Branzino was another highlight. Midtown Manhattan is not where I usually like to go for a night out. But reviews and hype for Cuerno drove me there...and I left fully satisfied. Loved the buzzy atmosphere, and the place was packed! Huge space, not at all intimate or cozy, but vibey and loud in a fun and good way. The smell was also like a steakhouse mixed with an earthy incense that reminded me of the spots in Tulum. We got complimentary cocktails and complimentary chips and a variety of salsas to start. All delicious. The ceviche and queso fundido were also both delicious. And by the end of the apps, we were kind of full already but still had a bunch of tacos to go. The taco richi was one of the best tacos I've ever had, and too bad there was only 1 in a serving because if there were more, I would've been happy with just that alone. We also got the carnitas tacos (pork) and the tacos taquero (steak and bone marrow). I feel like those tacos could've used a bit more spice or citrus or salsa...they were just straight up meat, which is not necessarily a bad thing because they didn't skimp on the meat. I can not begin to express how much I enjoyed Cuerno !! This was one of the BEST dining experiences ive ever had. We were seated at the time of our reservation, greeted in a timely manner, and our server was extremely helpful in explaining the menu and giving suggestions. We were even given surprise complimentary drinks which were so delicious that we ordered another round ! When it comes to the food, EVERYTHING was delicious. Exceptional. Theres nothing that was just "okay". We were given complimentary chips and salsas to start, and we were given a range of sauces mild to spicy. They were all very delicious !! I highly recommend ordering the Queso Fundido and the Chicharron de Pulpo. We were given tortillas with the appetizers and we ended up making quesadillas with both appetizers mixed together and it was soooooo good. For entrees, we had the Ribeye con Tuetano and the Corazon de Filete. Both were extremely flavorful; the filete was super tender and the Ribeye was melt-in-your-mouth good. The bone marrow on top took it to the next level ! Also loved the mashed potato side and mixed vegetables ! We finished off our meal with mint tea, cappuccino, and the Pay de Platano con Cajeta y Nuez dessert. I can not believe how incredible that pie tasted ! Like wow ! The whole dinner left me speechless in the best way possible. The ambiance is very chic, dim lighting, spot lights on every table (loved this), upbeat music, and great overall decor ! Our servers shift ended and we were given another server that wasnt as attentive and it took our dessert and check a lot longer to get to our table, but it was a full house so we didnt make a huge deal about it. Correctness/Taste (1-5): Before I start with anything else, the Taco Richi could possibly be the best thing on the menu! While I thought the Taco Taquero was fine, I got mine with a corn tortilla, but I think it would've been better with a flour tortilla. If I were to do it again, I would've just gotten 3 or 4 Taco Richis. The dessert was amazing too! - 4.5/5 Value (1-5): Ok, let's be real, $12 per taco (on the low end) is kind of crazy. When you get the Taco Taquero, it is presented tableside. Cuernos is absolutely stunning. From the moment you walk in, the space feels upscale, modern, and vibrant--perfect for a night out, a celebration, or a long dinner with friends. The margaritas are excellent--well balanced, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. To start, we had chips and salsa, followed by the bone marrow tacos, which are prepared tableside. These were rich, fatty, and incredibly flavorful--definitely a must-order. For the main course, we went with the arrachera norteña, a skirt steak cooked to perfection and packed with seasoning. Juicy, tender, and boldly flavored--exactly how a steak should be done. Dessert was just as impressive. The pastel de campechanas and chocolate dessert were outstanding. These are massive portions, so they're definitely meant to be shared, but trust me--you won't want to skip them. Cuerno easily qualifies for my personal restaurant hall of fame. My dinner there was special there in every way. For starters, it was a special occasion, so that already upped the ante and the energy. But across the board, be it drinks, food, service, ambiance, innovation, attention to detail -- you name it -- Cuerno is easily five stars and then some. Two things to know about me are that I don't like going to midtown and don't particularly enjoy eating steak. Yet here I am, raving about a steakhouse in midtown. If that's not a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is. One of the reasons I liked Cuerno is because it's very different than your traditional steakhouse experience. It's a steakhouse in that they serve steak, but it is otherwise a northern Mexican restaurant with an unbelievable and dazzling array of options, flavors, and preparations -- some things you've probably tried at other Mexican restaurants, others that you likely haven't. You can of course find your vodka martini and a side of potatoes if you must, but I'd encourage you to get creative instead. We came here at 8:30 on a Saturday night for my partner's birthday. We were a party of six, so we were seated at a corner booth that was quite spacious rather than a table/high top. It was perhaps a bit too big for us, but it ended up being a fun experience because there was a lazy Susan in the middle to facilitate sharing, which of course we planned to do a lot of. The decor, as I'm sure you've read elsewhere, is stunning. The space is beautiful and very well thought out -- it satisfies aspects of the midtown aesthetic while weaving in design elements that create interest and character. Upscale and refined with none of the stuffiness. To start, we of course got the oft discussed complimentary frozen margs and chips/salsa sampler. The margs were solid, the salsa flight was a very exciting preview of the amazing meal to come. I wish they had given us more chips. That said, a few of us were dripping the last of it on our knifes to eat straight by the end of the meal to get every last drop of goodness. Drink-wise, I stuck with cocktails though most others in our party had at least one glass of wine, if for no other reason than to drink out of the comically massive wine glasses they have here. I'm not a red wine gal so I did not partake, and instead tried the La Chispa (400 Conejos Mezcal, Punt E Mes, Primo), a delicious mezcal negroni variation. Some of us also tried the Espresso Martini (Vodka, Borgheti, Demerara, espresso) with dessert, which was solid. I also tried sips of the Sombrerita (Manojo Mezcal, Flor de Azar jamaica, lime) and Guayaba en Llamas (Patrón Reposado, Sweet Vermouth, creme de cacao, guava) thanks to the generosity of my friends and both were great -- I'd say the Guayaba and Llamas was more memorable/interesting though. Due to my limited epicurean vocabulary and the Yelp character limit, I can't properly delve into everything we tried, but I will tell you that everything was exceptional. Grades are A+ to A++++ times infinity for all. I'll add a few notes for each, below: Crudo de Hamachi (Thinly-sliced yellowtail hamachi, chile chiltepín, salsa rasurada): Beautifully presented/fresh/great complement to some of the heavier, warmer dishes Brócoli Asado (Roasted broccoli, spiced herb emulsion, Grana Padano, salsa macha): Presented as two broccoli crowns and cut up at the table because who doesn't love a show? A flavorful, worthy side. Coliflor Trufa Habanero (Charcoal-roasted cauliflower, pistachio, habanero-truffle emulsion, Grana Padano): We all agreed that this is a top veggie dish of all time and definitely our favorite of the night. Probably the only time cauliflower will be one of the most memorable parts of your meal. Frijoles con Veneno (Fried beans, ''Asado de Boda'' a rich northern-style pork stew): Props to the friend who insisted we get this. Neither my partner nor I like beans much but the preparation with the pork which was just next-level. Arrachera Norteña (Norteño-style outside skirt steak, chiltepin butter, garlic chips, avocado salsa): This was the only steak I tried and it was pretty unbelievable. Insanely flavorful. Rib Eye con Tuétano (Ribeye norteño-style, pepper, garlic, bone marrow, salsa piquín limón): I don't do bone marrow but if you want to ball out with decadence, this is a no-brainer. Pescado Zarandeado (Grilled whole branzino, red & green adobo, brussels sprouts, Mexican herbs): We were on the fence and I'm glad we went for it. The adobo was fantastic and enhanced the presentation as much as it did the flavor. Pulpo a las Brasas (Grilled Mayan octopus, heirloom potatoes, chipotle salsa): Cooked and seasoned beautifully. Verduras al Grill (Charcoal-roasted seasonal vegetables, house dressing): Nice to get a medley, you try a bit of everything. The broccoli and cauliflower were better but this was still solid. Ok, wait. I need a minute. This place. First of all, nothing im going to say here can do this place justice. It's Cuerno's world and we are all just living in it... But I will try to "review" it... Ok, I've tried Cuerno before, but at the one in Guadalajara Mexico at the upscale Andares location, so when I found out that they had recently opened one up in NYC it automatically made onto our "must try" list for the trip. The one in Guadalajara is phenomenal btw!! Absolutely Top Shelf and this one was a well!! We stopped in for a quick bit and drink before our Lion King show and had limited time and the staff were sooooo accommodating!!! I mean they took care of us in record time and I HAVE to call that out and give them their props! We had the Taco Taqueros and some cocktails and man these were incredible!! I uploaded a video of how they prepare the Taco Taqueros table side but it only let me share 30seconds of it :-( I love seeing an upscale Mexican establishment here in NYC!! We had; Complimentary chips with salsa - great chips and salsa options ranging from mild to spicy. Guacamole - excellent guacamole. In the center of the guacamole is pasilla salsa which gives it a bit of a smokey flavor. Taco Callejeros Tacos - delicious, butchers choice of meat in 4 tacos. Arrachera Norteba - 8oz skirt steak with flavor, very good. Rib Eye con Tuetano - 16oz ribeye served with bone marrow that is lathered over the steak table side. This stands out as one of the best steaks in the city right now. Sides Pure De Papa (mashed potato's) & Esquites (corn) - both were good sides. Mango Asada - grilled mango with whipped cream and mango syrup. This was fantastic. If you want something a little lighter than Pastel de Campechana's this is it. I foolishly thought that Mexican food can be high end but after visiting Cuerno, I know that it's impossible. I was not thrilled to spend $400+ on food that I could have gotten at your local Mexican deli in Sunset Park. Place is beautiful inside, hence the 2 stars. You can get free bones at your neighborhood halal butcher. No really, try it. No way was I paying over $100+ for a cheap steak and a bone. Best thing here was the chips and salsa assortment. This really had me excited to try the food. Octopus tacos - ok I guess. Still just a taco Beef tacos - could have gotten this for $12 at a food truck. Literally no difference Branzino tacos - couldn't taste branzino bc it was covered in undressed cabbage Potato side - strange tasting slop with tons of lime Corn side - corn with tons of lime Branzino main - ok I guess Steak - INSANELY salty. Chef must have made a mistake or maybe he was trying to kill me. Didn't understand the Kellogg cereal and the onion. Vanilla cake with puff pastry - why is this $25? It's literally frozen vanilla cake with tasteless puff pastry and hardly any Carmel. I was stunned bc of how many ppl posted photos of this dessert. Would not recommend this place. Let me just say this place is exceptional in every way. I made a reservation for a Tuesday at 5:45pm and I'm so glad i did because this place was extremely busy which i took as a good sign. Once i walked in my friend and i were seated quickly. Our waiter brough over chips and salsa's and two complementary frozen margarita drinks. Wow it was good and strong they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila haha. We started with our appetizer which we opted for the Ensalada César de Tijuana which was Romaine, Grana Padano, pork chicharrón croutons, homemade Caesar dressing and the Tacos Callejeros which had 4 tacos , butcher's choice of premium cuts of meat, fresh cilantro, onion, salsa verde( this was insanely good). We have the tacos a 10/10 and the salad was a 8/10 didn't care to much for the croutons but the dressing was great on the salad. For out main entree we went for the Rib Eye con Tuétano - 16oz which had Ribeye norteño-style, pepper, garlic, bone marrow, salsa piquín limón. This was the best rib eye i have had and the bone marrow on top was chefs kiss. We definitely have this a 10/10 actually am still thinking about it as i write this review today haha. For the dessert we went with the Pastel de Campechanas a traditional Mexican puff pastry (campechana), vanilla ice cream, pecans, dulce de leche. Incredible, and i say you save room for this haha. They also brought out a complimentary dessert which was a rich chocolate truffle, a warm touch of cinnamon. Also very good! All in all our experience was just amazing from start to finish and we cant say enough great things about the food, amazing service and beautiful ambiance. I absolutely loved coming here with my family for dinner. We started with the guacamole and they accommodated us with making it w/o onion nor cilantro. It was sooo good. The carne asada and the set up with all the 5 complimentary salsas and chips were amazing. I ordered a DJ margarita and it was a delight. Our server was so sweet and a delight! We definitely will return and highly recommend! They also served homemade flour tortillas! 10+++ read more

The food was very good overall -- I'd rate it 9/10. Great variety on the menu, delicious chips and salsas, and the cauliflower our server recommended was excellent. Prices were reasonable as well, especially when sharing dishes. However, the first impression at the host stand wasn't great. I had called to say I was running late and one of my guests arrived before me, but he was simply met with a hand gesture and told "wait at the bar." When the rest of us arrived, the host left me and my six guests standing in the hallway by the bar, right in the entrance, without directing us to a proper waiting area or asking us to move -- which felt uncomfortable since we were clearly in the way. I understand that arriving late can disrupt reservations, and as someone who also works in hospitality I'm very aware of that. But in a city like New York delays happen, and the host's role should still be to welcome guests rather than make them feel uncomfortable. Came for an annual Christmas lunch with some friends and I so enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. first and foremost It's situated right across from radio city music hall, so it was incredibly festive. It was nice to still see all the Christmas lights up despite it being January 2nd. the restaurant is very pretty low lighting. we saw that they have like a specialty lunch menu that's $39 for a three course menu and you get a lot of food for an incredible price. Everything that we ate was absolutely delicious starting with the appetizer which was the beef taco absolutely delicious then moving on to my entrée I had the milanesa, which is a fried and battered steak and that was also really good despite me never having tried something like that before, but the thing that was incredible was the drinks I had like a Mezcal margarita but it had like some candied steak in it that you could chew while also drinking the drink and so I really really enjoyed that overall I'll definitely be back.
