The only reason this is getting more then one star is because our chef (Kareem) was absolutely amazing. This was my first time in any Benihana establishment. I had looked over the menu prior to going and it looked like a fine dining restaurant. It was not. The waiting area is about 97 degrees or more, cooler to wait outside in the humidity, apparently they do not have air in the waiting room. Dusty, sticky and dirty. The chairs and floors left you stuck to them, the amount of dust and trash was outstanding. The upfront staff was less then helpful and just didn't seem like they wanted to be there ( probably from the heat) The food was decent, waiters average too. I am just so sad that the place is falling apart, dirty and just seems left behind. read more

*We ate at the Plymouth Meeting location but also leaving the review here because the manager last night was from the Cherry Hill location. Our reservation was for 5:45 PM but the chefs were running behind and we did not start our meal until 7 PM. While none of us complained, we were all getting very hungry. The manager, who was filling in from the Cherry Hill restaurant, was amazing. She was nice, apologetic, and offered us free appetizers due to the wait. None of us actually took her up on that because you get so much food at the hibachi that we all wanted to save our room! The chef was awesome and the server was very attentive as well. What could've been a negative experience was not negative at all and we all enjoyed ourselves and had delicious food. I attribute that to the wonderful manager who handled everything and everyone at the restaurant expertly. In fact, when we left she was actually cooking on the hibachi for another group as the restaurant was quite busy after some local graduations. What a great manager and leader! read more

We went to this Benihana for a 6 year olds birthday party. It was very good on working with us on the reservation and being seated in a timely fashion. Where it went awry was the service. When you go to Benihana you want the authentic experience and you expect someone of Asian decent to do the table show. This was not the case. I have no doubt that anyone can get it done, but only certain people can do it with precision and expertise. This guy was not very good or experienced and it showed. Ate here on Saturday night.... Valentine's weekend so it was jumpin but we had a res so got in fast and ez...... place was dirty outside, cigarettes every where and the building, it kinda looks like an old Wendy's or something tbh. Lol Plates were dirty, they quickly got us new ones without my saying anything.....customer service was on point..... I just didn't love love all the cops flying by during our meal outside, gives you a little bit of that not so comfortable type of feeling you know what I'm sayin? But then Aaron came in and that was that people! He was on his shit, engaging but not annoying and had a great sense of humor when I got to "picking" on him but it was all good....... His food......??!!! The plain old chicken ok??? Was off the chain! Never mind the steak and lobster but hold up hold up........ You need to taste his scallops Perfect sear, juicy and seasoned to perfection. We been goin to Benihana every year for my sons bday since 4EVER n he's 16 now so......Aaron was our best chef yet !!!! He even humble when we told him......Aaron a real star in the culinary/hospitality industry and if u reading this baby, u deserve all that praise and more. I have been going to this restaurant for 40 yrs. It has always been one of our favorites until now. I made a 6:30 reservation (there is always a wait). So we patiently waited. The table seats 8 but the other people at our table were supposed to be 5 (we were 4). They ended up being only 4, But regardless, there was a tiny table set up next to the main table where I sat. The waitress was terrible. No napkins or utensils to start. She took our drink order and then didn't return for a half hour! The food was just fair this time. But the kicker was the busboy put this bucket on the table where you cook the food to collect the dishes and the bucket looked disgusting! I almost lost my dinner right there. the hostess was not at the counter when i arrived to pick up my order. i was not greeted and the portion size is embarrassing. i have attached a photo of the $8 salad that i ordered for takeout. their fried rice is good and they put a good amount of meat in it though! i asked a server for sauce because they forgot to put it in the bag and she was very nice though. update: i went inside to the restaurant because there were pieces of shrimp shell in my rice. the cooks are the nicest women ever. she remade my rice right in front of me and added steak to it too! read more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. We were thinking because of the prices and what others have said that the food and experience would be better than other teppanyaki restaurants. WRONG. We came in on a Monday night and it wasn't busy at all and we had one other couple across from us and they still managed to take absolutely forever. 8 minutes to get 4 waters. 16 minutes to get our soup and another 10 for the salad. Finally our chef came rolling out. She was nice but didn't say a word to any of us and just did the bare minimum. All in all. We made a reservation for 8:15 and got there on time. We were told that they were running 20 minutes behind. But then the manager told us that there were 19 people (3 tables) ahead of us & that there would be a 30-40 minute wait. Two people who were there before us had waited 40 minutes & left. They finally sat us down around 8:45 p.m. Sadly a nice family with small children (who didnt have a reservation) who were seated at our table said that they had been waiting since 7:00 pm! It took another 30 minutes before they actually started cooking. We got our drinks & salads/appetizers about 20 minutes after we were seated. It was around 11:15 p.m. by the time we were done eating, got the bill & left. What is the point of having a reservation if they cannot seat you down close to your reserved time. This place seems seriously under-staffed with cooks and wait staff running around with no time to take a breather. The manager himself was seen wiping tables and cleaning up. Our chef was new, and not well seasoned, so he forgot to put a lot of ingredients on his cart when he came over to our table to cook. This caused him run back to the kitchen a few times to get the ingredients. Prices are now outrageous for food that is flavorless & low quality. And they now charge $5 extra (waitress told us $4) if you want a small bowl of flavorless fried rice! Forgot to put the grilled onions in my dish. They do not use authentic teriyaki sauce anymore, instead he used Kikkoman soy sauce, lots of salt and pepper and TONS of shortening (He said butter, but it didnt taste like butter) for everything!! Taste was not good. We used to go there all the time (pre-pandemic) & really enjoyed it then. They used to send a $30 off birthday gift, which they still do, but even with the coupon, its not worth going here. They used to automatically bring out celebratory birthday ice cream with a candle on it, take a picture of you and sing to you, but that didn't happen this time. When i asked about it, the waitress said "I asked if anyone wanted ice cream, didn't you hear me?" We were also supposed to get Japanese hot green tea, which it seems like no one in the restaurant got, but the menu says it comes with the meal. While we were almost done, but still eating, a bus boy came & placed a huge dirty tub with dirty dishes in it on our table to collect the dishes of others who were done eating! That is unacceptable! I don't know how so many people can go to this place, it is lousy. We will not be going back anymore. There are lots of much nicer restaurants in Cherry Hill, including several other Asian restaurants just in the area. read more

Rob the server is great and I love coming in and seeing the manager David. He always says hi and checks on me while I'm here before I eat while I'm eating and at the end.
