Of COURSE it's good. It's Benihana's! Every time I have gone, it is delicious! The heart trick, stops mine every time. That stuff never gets old. Sushi wise, they are decent. But it's like begrudging sex with my ex, it's just kinda like, "meh, I've had better." Not bad, good to curb a craving, but when you already have had outstanding, this is just "meh". If they can step up their sushi rolls, I'll go ahead and add that last star. The hibachi is really what we've all come for though, isn't it? The show is always awesome. Just overpriced! Where to start? Let's go in order: The soup was weak, salad ok, 1 vertical slice of zucchini and white onion was not great variety of vegetables. When the waitress asked if we wanted fried or steamed white rice, we were not told it was a $3.60 up charge! That's $36 for 10 small bowls of rice!! After we saw that the rice was listed in menu as an Ala carte item, we still argued we shouldn't have been charged 3.60 to upgrade . We could have gotten the white rice and the fried rice for the same price. And since the chef cooled our meals in batches of 2 or 3, we could've done with the extra rice while we waited. Steak and chicken was same quality as jewel grocery. Noodles had way too much ginger. Chef was sweet made a few jokes, but it's no dinner theater. Crowded seats don't allow to enjoy meal. 3.5 stars. We came here for a friends birthday. I had never been, but she loves it (and they provided birthday ice cream and took a picture and printed it while we were there). However, it got off to a bumpy start. We were there early and they pointed us to the bar to go sit (ironically, she pointed in the wrong direction). 15 minutes after our reservation time, we noticed another party who arrived after us get seated. I went to resolve this issue and they clearly screwed up. The hostess was rather irritating in failing to acknowledge their screw up. Within 5 minutes we were seated. The concept is neat - they cook in front of you. I have never been to a place like this so my the chef had my attention. However, like a few other reviews, it was FREEZING (and the bathrooms more so). Even once they started cooking, I had my wool coat on. The vestibule between the outdoor door and the indoor door was, in fact, warmer than the restaurant. Between those two snafus, I gets .5 knocked off. As for their food, I liked it. They definitely give you a TON of it. The shrimp appetizer was a wonderful start, and the onion soup was delightful. I thought the veggies were a bit overcooked - but I hate zucchini being too soft. Fried rice delicious. I do wish that they cooked it so you had some of the sides with your main meal. I had the steak and scallops - both done to order and very tasty but not overwhelmingly buttery. I'm just wondering what's the tax in Schaumburg. As I know in cook county should be 10.25% for the tax. The receipt shows subtotal is 48.65 and tax is 5.84. It's 12.00% for the tax. I am not sure if Benihana is just not what I remember it as growing up or what but I found it to be over priced and not anything special.....Its not that the food was bad but really just average and with Benihana I guess I am looking for somthing more. Although the service was average at best they do have a nice thing where on your Birthday they take your picture and put it in a paper frame and give it to you as you are leaving which I thought was night. I would say Benihana is still a solid option for special occasitions however I don't think I will be going for a regular outing. read more

I've been going to Benihana probably since I was in the womb. Well, probably not since then, but seriously, I can't remember ever not going. Whenever I'm hungry for Hibachi style cooking, Benihana is my one true love, my tried and true. When dining at Benihana, expect a cheesy show. Watching an "egg roll", flying shrimp, steaming onion choo-choo train, or a beating fried rice heart is half the fun! Some servers are way more into it than others, it's just luck on who you get and how cheesy they're feeling that day. I love the food. I always go for hibachi style ((duh - that's what you came for)). I'm usually all about teriyaki chicken or the filet mignon.Mmmmm. All hibachi style dinners come with white rice ((upgrade to chicken fried rice for a few bucks. It's the star of the entire meal)), onion//mushroom soup, salad with ridiculous ginger dressing, teriyaki veggies ((zucchini & onion)), and a shrimp appetizer. Let's not forget the tangy mustard or ginger sauces. I'm an instant sauce whore when it comes to those...I put it on everything. The sushi and other appetizers aren't bad, but with the amount of food you get with the hibachi dinners, I highly doubt you'll need anything more, or leave hungry. My recommendation...stick with the dinners and avoid the average sushi & apps. Prices are kinda high, but I find it's worth it. I can see exactly what my food is being cooked with and how it's being cooked. Benihana's also offers monthly specials ((for two)) which makes the evening slightly cheaper. Make sure to sign up for their emails on their website. They will send you a free $30 gift certificate for your birthday each year, plus you get free ice cream and a complimentary photo with your group. Yessssss!! You'll probably need a shower after you Benihana, hibachi adventure, as your hair and clothes will reek of grilling. But, eh, it's half the fun. And if you're out on a date, at least the both of you will stink together. Kinda romantic, huh?? For whatever the reason, hibachi just doesn't get old. I meant to write a review nine months ago for Benihana, but life got in the way and then I forgot about the highlights, so I put it off. Thankfully, I made another recent trip for a different occasion, so now I can write a review. Dinner at Benihana is always the same. I have visited this location many time over the years and it's very routine. That's okay. The food is decent. The service is very good. And it's a fun experience. Benihana has a new menu. I think that it's basically the same options, but the layout was a bit weird. They are calling the appetizers "side dishes" and the drinks are spread out throughout the menu. Most recently, I had a combo with teriyaki steak and jumbo shrimp. I paid $3.25 extra for chicken fried rice, which is well worth it instead of white rice. The servers kept my iced tea glass full with a fresh lemon on every refill. The dirty dishes were promptly cleared. There were no mistakes on the order. All in all, it was a good visit and I know that I'll be back. read more

I've been wanting to go here for as long as I remember. It was definitely a great experience. It was my husbands first time at a hibachi restaurant and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Our chef was very fun and he entertained us well. I had the mango shrimp dish and it was delish! My husband had sushi and they were excellent as well. It is a bit on the pricier side but most hibachi restaurants are. Their alcoholic drinks are pretty yummy too but it's more tasty I feel than alcohol. Overall I would give this a 9/10 read more

Soup, salad, hibachi shrimp appetizer, hibachi vegetables, steamed rice, japanese hot green tea. The cook prepared our hibachi shrimp appetizer, chopped up an onion and one thin slice of zuchinni and put it on our plate. Then he said that this is our appetizer....go ahead and eat. We did, but seriously, I ate steamed rice and hibachi shrimp as my entree. No vegetable at all. I went here with a big group and they were very accommodating all the way through. We had some picky eaters and they really made an effort to make sure everyone was happy. The service was prompt and the staff was very friendly. Our chef did a great job cooking as well as entertaining along the way. For food, I had the hibachi chicken rice, house salad, and agedashi tofu. Everything tasted good. I tried some of the shrimp and usually I don't like shrimp, but these were quite tasty! It has been a couple of years since I've last been here and was surprised, in a good way however, of the many changes made to their menu. I had the Spicy Hibachi Chicken and it was delightful. It's so sad that we have been going to Benihana for years but no longer will go. We went with our 90 year old parents during COVID and ask to sit at our own table. All other guest were sitting at their own tables with family members. The mgr was rude and would not accommodate our request. The mgr told us to go ahead and leave and didn't care if we would Yelp our incident. I truly believe we were treated that way because of our minority race. Chose this place because it was a short walk from my hotel. Intended to go to the place next door, but so glad I made the choice to dine here instead. Even on a cold, winter MON night (DEC 5, 2016), this place was quite festive. I sat at the sushi bar and watched more than a few parties going on around me. Each had their own chef-show! Beside the scenery, I enjoyed the filet mignon meal, a sushi roll, and a yummy yellowtail nigiri. Outstanding flavor of the filet! Fish tasted fresh. We make an annual birthday trip to Benihana and it's always been excellent service and food. If you sign up for their free email/club, you get a free meal on your birthday! Great sushi! It's slowly getting higher priced on their lunch special. Dinners have one of those flashy shows just like Rokbonki, I've never seen it but people enjoy it. I mean if you go there for that, it kinda makes sense. No question about it, good quality on the sushi and the meals. One thing to be careful of is the time that you go. They have designated times during normal business hours that they CLOSE for employee break basically. After hearing the name in a Big Sean rap...the bf insisted we check it out. So i suggested it for my 22nd birthday. We came on a Saturday during 4th of July and it was not busy. I would consider them quite pricey for the fare they are serving. We both ordered the Rocky special (chick, steak, salad, soup, and ice cream). this was $25 a person. The chef did give us free shrimp.... but that didnt make up for it! I am easily bribed with food.... but not that EASY! This place gets one star for having decent hibachi-style Japanese, one star for having a good selection, and another for the yummy drinks. The two stars I left off are for insanely high prices, and not very welcoming service--I'm glad that other reviews mention that, because otherwise I'd be afraid the people working here just hate ME and not everyone else. There are other great hibachi places in the 'burbs, if you're willing to drive a bit. Look up Japan 77 and Domo 77--light years better than this chain drain. read more

Went there about a month ago but writing a review just now. However, I am planning on updating this once I go back.. which should be soon. I went during their Lunch Hours. The place was pretty busy on that Saturday, so it wasn't all that surprising. My friend and I got seated at a large table with some other people and we all ordered. I ordered the Lunch Boat with Salmon. The price was really good (about $10) for the amount of food I got. It came with salmon, which was very yummy and moist. California roll (delish), white rice, deep fried veggies and shrimp (the veggies were very good but I'm not a shrimp fan so I just had my friend eat those for me), raw pieces of fish (sashimi, is it called? I don't remember. Not a fan). All of that also came with soup beforehand and the Benihana salad (the dressing on which was absolutely amazing). I was very satisfied with the lunch. Sorry, if I missed anything that was included in it. As I said, I'll update once I return to this restaurant. My friend got something else, not sure what it is was I think it might have been shrimp and chicken with rice. It was made right in front of us on the table by the Japanese chef. It was reallyyyy cool how we got to see it all. I was very entertained. The experience overall was fabulous and I am planning on going back within the month with my parents. Good Friday and we didn't feel like cooking. All the local seafood spots were at least a 40 minute wait, so we took our chances at Benihana. It'd been a while since our last visit (at least 2 years ago), and the experience is still good. If you haven't been to Benihana before, it's teppanyaki/hibachi, where food is cooked right in front of you. Our fam of 4 was seated immediately, directly across the grill and chef. There were two couples to either side of us at the table. We've been here before where we either took up a whole table, or requested to be seated alone, which they've accommodated (if not on a busy night). We had a good time with the other couples, the kids behaved and conversations weren't mixed or intrusive. Menu doesn't change much at Benihana - they have a good selection/variety of choices for the grill along with a good sushi/sashimi menu. We are always pleased with the quality and taste of the food at Benihana, and this night was no exception. We went with all seafood (Surf Side and the Hibachi Shrimp). Most menu items come with soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, rice (choice of brown/white/fried), along with the entrée. Good variety of sake and Japanese beer (Sapporo, of course). Kids meals come with a lot of food...choice of entrée, rice, drink, and ice cream. The kids menus are printed on chefs hats (big hit). Our chef did the usual tricks: onion volcano, escaping shrimp, catching egg in pocket, catching shrimp tails in hat, behind-the-back rice bowl fill, showmanship with utensils, etc. The kids loved it. It was entertaining, and while we've never experienced a terrible or boring showing from the chef, depending on who you get, the cooking show will either be hilarious/lively/fun, or lackluster/mediocre. Ours tonight did good, and while he put a little 'oomph' in there for the kids, it was still a little more on the 'routine' side - going through the motions, more than it was with the pizzazz that we've seen here before. Regardless, still a good showing and food was cooked well. Benihana can be pricey, though they offer lots of specials...good for families, for couples, groups of friends, etc. They've been around forever, especially this Schaumburg location. Not hard to see why. Always a good time here. Also - if you're celebrating a special occasion, let them know and they'll take your photo and send you home with a souvenir Benihana frame. I came here right after my college graduation with my family to celebrate the big accomplishment and was a bit disappointed. I've been to many places like this before, which is why I wanted to go here, but I just could not get over the fact that our chef kept making jokes as if we were a group of children. We came here around 2pm on a Saturday and the place was not busy at all. We called ahead to make sure we could be seated right away but still needed to wait once we got there. Once seated, not much was told to us. We actually needed to ask our waitress whether or not it was still time for the lunch special because she did not inform us on anything. Our chef came out and put on the typical show but I was not thrilled because I had just graduated college and felt like I was being treated like a child. Even my father asked what exactly the "ice cream" he kept putting on each dish was and he replied as "its just butter, but we do ice cream for the children." Some of our food was extremely over cooked especially the shrimp. The portions of the food we had made were small compared to other places I've been to before. The place by my house had sank to a new low, 2 stars, which is why I drove 7 miles to this place. I saved $$ by doing that! I was the first one seated on a Thur night around 6pm. I had to wait about 45 minutes before the table filled up with 4 other people. I did not mind but if you have plans afterwards to go somewhere else, please be aware of potential long wait. I ordered filet mignon and scallops and was not disappointed! The steak was tender and cooked just as I asked. It came with salad, soup, appetizer, fried vegetables, steamed rice and ice cream for $36. They charge $4 for fried rice which us a bit pricy but I was ok with that. The vegetables served were zucchini and onion and very flavorful! Best of all, they were not greasy like that other place by my house. The chef was a pro with regards to entertainment and staff friendly and professional. They came out with ice cream with candle and 3 staff waitress/waiters sang to two of us celebrating a birthday month! I absolutely love this place ! However the last two times we had to wait for our food to be cooked because somebody at our table had shellfish allergies . Normally I'd be okay with this but they didn't tell us til they started cooking his food first then told us . The chef was not very attentive , he cut the meat way to big .
