We had this pizza at the downtown location and we see that it's awesome they have one here in north Summerville area which is perfect. They have the biggest tastiest slices of pizza in town. This place reminds me of the greatest pizza joints in the city of up north. So if you are looking for that New York slice that's huge, this is the place. It's a must try. They also have a hidden cool bar in the back with more dining space. I will try out the bar next time. Neither had I! I had a surprise visit from my two young adult sons, who are in the military and fit. I was in Summerville and the kids had been wanting pizza, so it made sense for me to swing by Benny Mazzatto's. I have seen them on DoorDash running about $70 fora pizza, but my pickup order placed through their site was only $48. That's still a LOT for a pizza, but keep in mind that one of their pizzas is about 2x the total area of a normal 18" pizza so it's right in line on value for a relatively expensive local pizza shop. The pizza tries to be a New York Style pizza and (speaking as a native New Yorker who still goes there for work on a regular basis... so I am familiar with the pizzas there) it mostly pulls it off. I have had better NYC style pizzas in SC, but this was solid. I think if they made it 18" it probably would hit closer to the mark. The pizza was ready within a minute of the expected time, which is a miracle and made me happy. Folks at the counter were friendly. There were some interesting looking desserts I wanted to check out too, but my hands were full and I wasn't sure if ice cream would make it to my house in North Charleston without melting. Overall this was a good pizza and I wish that I lived close enough for this to be a regular pickup. They thought the sausage and pepperoni pizza was better than the garlic and mushroom pizza with sausage added because they felt there were too many mushrooms on the pizza... it's a 28 inch pizza. The box is HUGE! We have to transport it in the trunk of our car. It barely gets out of the door of the restaurant. It's very fun walking out trying to hold the pizza but we enjoy it. (I'm not being sarcastic. We actually get a kick out of it.) These large pizzas cost us $40ish each but we feel it was well worth it. Benny Mazzetto's is a New York-style pizzeria that opened in Summerville, South Carolina in December 2020. It is actually part of a larger chain of pizzerias that all feature the given name "Benny". The chain was founded by Virginia Tech classmates Chris Brown and Zach Toth in 2011. They had an idea to start a local pizza spot that wasn't a cookie-cutter chain like so many others. They decided to make their pizza a combination of thin New York-style with the Jumbo Slice concept found in Washington, D.C. The fictional namesake of the pizzeria was Benedito "Benny": an Italian immigrant raised in Brooklyn who worked under countless Italian chefs before relocating to a small town on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The first pizzeria opened in Blacksburg, Virginia under the name Benny Marzano's. Today there are nearly 30 different locations (mainly in the southeast). Each new location that opens features a different surname which reflects the town it is within (i.e. Benny Ravello's, Benny Palmetto's, Benny Rinaldi's, etc.) While the pizza is the same from store to store, each location features décor that reflects its whereabouts. My family and I visited Benny Mazzetto's while we were on an East Coast Road Trip. We were visiting our cousins who live in Summerville (right outside of Charleston). On our first day in town, they brought us to the pizzeria for dinner. It is conveniently located in the historic downtown area. The surname "Mazzetto" means 'bouquet' in Italian and is a reference to Summerville's annual Flowertown Festival. Our cousins told us that Benny's was well-known for their signature 28" pies. We decided to order a pepperoni pie. This thing was HUGE! Each slice was bigger than my head, but it sure was tasty! Despite the size, it was reasonably priced. We all enjoyed some slices while we played some games at an axe-throwing facility across the street. It just so happens that our son is also named Benny (and he loved the pizza). We landed on this pizza shop because my husband saw the "giant" pizza (I think 28"?) and had to try it for game day. It was gigantic! The sauce has a little sweetness to it, which I really liked and surprisingly the crust held up even in the middle of the pie despite its size. Cheese and crust were okay, but this is something I would get again for a game day get together or party because it's just so fun to have for a gathering. Employees dressed like they just got out of bed, poor customer service, and employees not using gloves and wiping hands on their clothes instead of properly washing them. Looks like a great local place to enjoy some fantastic pizza. Unfortunately we couldn't patronize Benny's as we are both vegan. I know it sounds counter intuitive to have vegan pizza but with the growing vegan community many pizza houses are catching up to this market share.
