Didn't actually get to go inside. The man at the door checking IDs had a tip jar and wanted us to tip him for entering. We tried to hand him our identification and he kept looking at his tip jar and then back at us. read more

What a fun time we had! Came in for a drink, but also needed to use the restroom. The ladies room has shower curtains instead of stall doors, which cracked me up. After my boyfriend and I had our first round we settled up, only moments later to be greeted by the one and only Benny! He was so nice and told the bartender to give us another round on him. He told us his life story, which he was quite bashful to tell us about, but we were eager to hear more! He gave us some life advice for being the youngsters we are, and kindly walked us out. I put 4 stars ONLY because of the indoor smoking. We didn't realize until after we had sat in our car how much we smelled of cigarettes. If smoking isn't a problem for you, I highly recommend Benny's for a nice watering hole :) read more

They claim to have the coldest beer in America. That's definitely false advertising, so don't believe the hype. This bar is divey, and has an eclectic group of people. Young people, old people, bikers, preppy dudes, etc. I thought the service was fine. There were only two bartenders the night we went, and they were busting their arses all night long. My friend and I had several pitchers of beer and walked away with a very small bar tab. Yay for that! And although I'm pretty sure the poles on the dance floor are for structural support, that didn't stop my friend from using it as a stripper pole. We chatted with some of the locals, who were all nice. I think it's a good sign if you're in a bar where locals are. Then you know you're not in some touristy stupid bar. One of our fav on Tybee! We love a good whole in the wall bar, while tybee has many, many of them have locals who aren't very welcoming to out of towners. Benny's isn't like that at all! Rick always makes us feel very welcomed. His wife does karaoke Thursday-Sunday and it's a lot of fun! Beer is VERY cold. We make it a point to stop in once a day when we visit. Sometimes for just a beer, sometimes for 4 hours and sing a few songs. read more

AWESOME NEIGHBORHOOD DIVE BAR! I walked in by myself on a Thursday evening. My first visit to Georgia, let alone quirky Tybee Island. I definitely stood out amongst the regulars who were belly-upped to the bar. Was an awkward entry because I was alone, but I went on to have an unforgettable time. Owner Denny himself saw I was a stranger and came over to introduce himself. We had a great talk. Later he introduced me to everyone at the bar, including his wife, all the bartenders, the cook, and most of the salty regulars. I really liked meeting Mike the Fisherman/Logger/Painter and his wife...who he met at Dennys 10 years prior. Gem of a guy. Loved the place but more importantly the people. Oh and the draft beer was icy cold and the bourbon was amazing. What a fantastic, memorable experience. read more

Visited at Noon on a weekday the weekend before 4th of July which may qualify as a somewhat off time which in turn may explain the quiet atmosphere of nothing more than a few old timers yakking it up at the bar. The sign touts the coldest beer in America. Not sure if it true, but it really was cold beer! Beer cooler has a digital thermometer - 29 degrees! We had 2 rounds, 1st round was $6.50, second round was $7.50 - 10 minutes apart, same bartender. Guess you can pick up what I am putting down?????? Lotsa locals, usually a good sign for cheap drinks. Given the price variance for the beer and the fact they are located off the beaten path a little, go if you want to try the cold beer. Leave after one round, that way you won't be able to see how they change the prices every 10 minutes. Also, would be great if they put a door on the crapper area in the men's room! Great dive bar. We stopped in for a quick lunch and our server recommended the fried chicken. Hot damn that was some great chicken. We had it with some of their homemade hot sauce on the side (so good! we wished they would bottle it) and fried zucchini. Yum. read more

Typical bar food. Service was attentive. I had the blt with a side of fries. It was good but it's hard to mess up a blt. The fries were not so great. Frozen margaritas were horrible. Nothing memorable about anyone's food at our table. Benny's is one of those places you immediately forget about after you leave. I would not return if I go back to Tybee Island. read more

This is where the locals eat and if you haven't eaten here, you are missing the boat...seafood platter was plentiful and cooked to perfection and the fish and chips was delicious and not greasy. My Dad and I are always looking for new places to try in the area when he visits me at school. We heard praises from a local about the fried chicken from Benny's so we had to try it, and I'm so glad we did. Though it's a dive bar, the fried chicken is the best we have both ever had. Very rude bartender last night. She has brown hair and was standing outside smoking making loud rude comments about people as they walked by. I was the only one that stopped and asked her why she was talking about my dress. She just laughed and said "oh you heard that". We walked in for a second and as I was giving an older lady at the door our id the bartender knudged me with her knee in my butt and acted like it was an accident. We immediately left before things got out of hand and will never spend a dime in this establishment. read more

Oh Benny's. Where do I begin? I went there after the Tybee Island fireworks show on the 4th and the place was packed! A hole in the wall wouldn't adequately describe it but it's the closest thing I can think of. I was pre-warned about the smell, but I didn't think much of it since it fit right into the place and gave it even more character...not that it needed it. I never got to try the "coldest beer in America" because they allowed me to walk in with my tasty beverage from another local establishment (Frozen Kiwi-Strawberry from Tybee Time FTW!!) so, unfortunately, I never got to experience the bar directly. What I did experience was some of the most delightfully random karaoke I've ever witnessed in my entire life. From good 'ole boys rapping "Tootsie Roll" to a biker dude with a voice that sounded like he'd been smoking a carton of cigarettes a day since the age of 5 singing Ben E. King, it was all just so wonderfully bizarre but yet perfectly right for the location. The crowd was a random mix: Southern-pseudo hipsters, biker dudes, good ole boys, frat boys, etc. were all out representin' for their peeps. And the DJ, who I think may have been Benny himself, was a dead-ringer for Tim McGraw which just made absolute sense. Sadly, the smoke did become a little too much for me, so I had to step out a lot sooner than I wanted to. I must say, though, I won't be forgetting Benny's anytime soon. read more

Why can't I give zero stars? I went to this bar and ordered a Budweiser and a Yuengling with a $5 bill in my hand. As the bartender contemplated what absurd price she would choose to charge me, she looked at me with the most crude look on her face and rudely said, "Oh, it's definitely going to cost more than that!" Like I'm some kind of idiot. She charged me $8.50 for the 2 beers so I gave her my card. I did not ask her to close my tab but I guess she took it upon herself to do so and ran it for $10 which is their minimum. A little while later, I ordered from another bartender and strangely enough, my Yuengling was $3.50. Yeah. Not going back there. That's just plain stealing and poor service. read more

I was here over the weekend. Service was horrible. It took me for ever to get a drink. The bar made was on the karaoke stage most of the night rude as could be. I was hoping to see the bar made with the great smile and out going personality. She had long hair and I swear never stopped moving. I would see her some weekends, but not all of them. what a time we had! first, our bartender informed us that we didn't order the drinks we ordered. told us the customer was always right so he wasn't going to argue but then made sure to tell us he was right. okay! next, he didnt know how to make ANY of the shots we asked for(lemon drops, creamsicles, ANYTHING). only when we ordered a shot that you simply poured from the bottle into the cup did he compliment us on our selection OR have an idea how to do it. rocks? what do you mean? and when he officially pissed every penny away that COULD have been in his tip, he came from behind the bar to tell us that if we couldn't tip him after running up the huge $50 tab we ran up, we didn't need to come back to "his" bar again! so after I asked him how he thought he was gonna talk to every person in my group(7 people) like shit, not make a single order correct and then expect a tip on top of it? he said, "I was only joking with you guys". SERIOUSLY!!! I went to the manager and explained what this guy said, did, his absolutely atrocious bartending skills(?) and asked if that was the way business was done at Benny's. he said no. the other guy tried to lie when I repeated his words verbatim to the manager. he was a joke. I honestly don't think this guy deserves to hold a job. he doesn't deserve to interact with other people!
