I'm so glad this restaurant moved up to northern Indy (used to be Lucky Lou)! It's located in the Castleton Mall, which is great since there's a lot of parking and you can walk off all the food you eat afterwards at the mall. The restaurant is huge with lots of seating and it's clean. There's a ton of options on the menu, including an authentic Chinese menu. All of the food is fresh and tastes authentic. I highly recommend getting some Dim Sum such as the Har Gow (shrimp dumplings) and Sesame Balls filled with Red Bean. The hot and crispy fried chicken is one of the best things on the menu! There is usually only 3 or 4 people working, but the service is always great. They consistently go back to your table to fill your drinks and always ask if you need anything. Very excited to get to try Benyue. I had been to Lucky Lou's (west side) only once before (for takeout), and this is the same owneer. This space is much nicer, modern and clean. Took the old Hoolihan's spot in the Castelton mall, but the decor is completely updated. I debated between 4-5 stars because there were a few glitches in our visit, but ultimately the food pushes it to 5 stars. The glitches were that we waited quite a while to be greeted and sat. There were two other people in the waiting waiting area before us, and they both mentioned having been there quite a while as well. When we finially did get seated, our server was very nice and friendly but I did have some language communication difficulties in what we were getting. But it all got sorted out. Then Patrick (possibly a mgr?) also came over and really helped and talked to us more about the menu, he was super friendly as well. So, the good stuff: the food! Crispy chicken , pork siu mai dim sum and rice. Lots of chiles, spicy and very tasty. We also ordered the seame chicken, the stuffed eggplant dim sum, and the tofu and shrimp dim sum. All really, really delicious. It is hard to choose, but I think that stuffed eggplant (stuffed with a poached shrimp) was my favorite of the day. The dim sum here is really great. It's a little pricey, but most "small plates" are. The service is friendly. The place is big, most people were seated in the middle area. I had been wanting to get to this new location for a long time now, and finally made it last night. We ordered 6 items off the dim sum menu and all were delicious. The vegetable rice rolls were fresh and flavorful; I loved the contrast of textures too. The stuffed eggplant was probably my favorite. I love eggplant and this was stuffed with shrimp! Can't get much better than that. The chive cakes were delicious too and the shrimp shu mai were excellent. The BBQ pork buns were fluffy and delicious. The fried pork and shrimp dumplings were good too, but the sweet dough surprised me a bit; it seemed like the same dough that is used in the red bean sesame balls. Not a bad combination but not my favorite of what we ordered. I like the system of checking off choices on the menu; dishes come out somewhat staggered so you do have some time to enjoy each without things getting cold. I do also like being able to get my favorites rather than just whatever comes out on the cart. The cart was fun, but I think I like this system better. 6 dishes was plenty for two of us for dinner. We managed to eat everything with our chopsticks without making too big of a mess (yay us!). I'm assuming forks are available on request; I'll be wimping out and asking for one if I order an entree on my next trip. Speaking of which, the other menus looked amazing too, so I do want to come back and try those as well, but I also want more dim sum. There is no cart service, so ordering off menu required. I came 30 min after opening on a Sunday- not very busy yet. Service a little slow, but food order correct. They were out of several bao offerings, but the remainder of menu had good variety (not as many options as Chinatown in LA). Great flavor and construction of food. Authentic! Decent establishment. We really did not enjoy the temperature. A freezing dining cold room does not make fraternizing enjoyable. There were also several dishes that were unavailable to us, including most of the veggie dishes. We did appreciate being able to dine as a party of 10. We were sat at one of the larger tables. Visited restaurant because of Yelp invitation. My husband joined me as a guest. The staff, especially Peter, greeted us immediately and saw my phone out. They were good. Light and sweet with good bbq stuffed inside. An order is 3 steamed buns. My "Yelp" meal was served in a plastic tray sort of container. The dumplings were full of funny pieces of unable to eat meat What I did try to eat, was very difficult to chew. I actually put one dumpling on the side plate and Peter asked if I was enjoying the meal. I pointed out the gristle and dry chicken. He bright sweet and sour. I guess it made it better but I did not enjoy any part of the yelp dinner. My husband, on the other hand got crispy duck and enjoyed every bite of it. His dinner came on a nice white plate. I'm here with good news: the sole dim sum spot in Indianapolis has DELICIOUS dim sum. The chef arrives early each morning to make all of the dumplings from scratch, and you can tell. Owner Elsa and her family previously owned Taste Restaurant by Lucky Lou in the International Marketplace. They closed it down and moved to this new Castleton location when it became available, as it allowed them to be closer to their customers. "Benyue" means "to relish" and their team shared that their hope is that all diners relish in their food and experience. We totally did. We called the day before to get a reservation for six people, which I'd recommend doing. The restaurant is open until 8:30pm each day and they ask that you order by 7:45pm, as the kitchen closes then. The restaurant is connected to the front of Castleton Mall, with its own entrance to the parking lot. We walked in and were immediately impressed by how grand and pretty the space is. We got sat at a huge round table that had a lazy Susan in the middle, which turned out to be PERFECT for dim sum. Our whole group ordered family-style, so it was really fun and convenient to spin the table to try all the food we ordered. Here's what we got: + Shrimp Siu Mai: my favorite dumpling we tried - definitely order! + Steamed Dumplings: delicious, hot, and soupy! + Beef Chow Fun: the best noodles with beef - definitely order! + Pot Stickers: these went quickly, so I didn't get to try them! + Chives Pancake: stuffed with chives and also good. + General Tso's Chicken: sooooo crispy and good - definitely order! + Mongolian Beef: noodles and thick chunks of beef and onion. + Peking Duck House Special: aka "build-you-own bao bun tray." The crispy duck skin paired with the soft bao buns, shredded cucumber, scallions, and hoisin sauce was incredible. The tray is also beautiful and a real showstopper. If you're with a group, don't skip this. I'd definitely recommend coming with a big group on your first visit so you can try everything and discover your favorites. Each of us ended up paying about $30-40 a person for all of that food and it was the perfect amount. It was such a fun experience, as well as delicious food and I'm so excited to come back again. Benyue has decent dim sum for close to (or even equivalent) New York prices. I ordered to-go and the sauces were missing (chili oil, soy sauce, etc), but maybe it's something you need to ask for. We have all of it at home, but just fyi for those that don't. Peking Duck - it's a lot of food and it comes with bao buns but if you have more than 4 people, you can order more buns ($7 extra). I'm not sure if it comes with a hoisin sauce at the restaurant, but we had some at home and enjoyed topping it off with the sauce to add a little saltiness to it. The baos were soft and chewy. Pork Siu Mai - they were made a little bigger than "regular sized" sui mai. Can't complain about that! It was very filling and delicious. Bean curd roll - I thought the bean curd was a little over cooked but the inside tasted good. Shrimp rice noodle roll - your standard dim sum shrimp roll. So good! Sticky rice (abalone with chicken) - the sticky rice itself was good, but the filling had some sort of shell or something that made that part a little inedible. In about three years, this roll increase by $1.65. This location now has an English speaker like a manager, which is needed at times. Went on a weekday for an early dinner and they weren't busy, so we were seated right away. They have a dim sum menu and a regular menu. Out of the entrees we ordered, our favorite was the garlic pea shoots. They were flavorful and cooked perfectly - tender with some crunch. From the dim sum we ordered, the pork siu mai, chives pancake (dumpling) and turnip cake were the best of the bunch. The sautéed eggplant was too saucy and had an overpowering sweet and sour flavor. The eggplant was cooked too long and had a mushy consistency. The rice in the vegetable fried rice was over cooked and wet. The dim sum rice noodle rolls with the sweet soy sauce (vegetable version and shrimp version) were lacking in flavor. Our server Patrick was very friendly and had excellent customer service skills. He answered questions we had about the menu options, kept our water glasses full, checked in with us a couple times during the meal, and had a good attitude, even while juggling all the other customers. We did have a mix-up during the meal. While looking at the menu, a person in our group inquired with the other employee helping the dining area, and asked if they had a specific seafood dish we didn't see on the menu. He came back to let us know it's not on the menu, but they can cook it. We never confirmed we wanted to order it and we ordered other dishes instead. He must have misunderstood because the dish ended up being prepared anyway and it came out to our table. We didn't want to waste the food, so we accepted it and added it to our meal. Glad they moved to this location because its an easier drive. The seating area is large and well spaced and service has been good on each visit. The restaurant however, does feel very cold and the restrooms are like walking into a freezer with really cold water for hand washing! As for food, in Entrees their Peppercorn chicken and Salt and Pepper shrimp are very good, although the peppercorn chicken is the best in town imo. We mainly visit here for the DimSums and few of our favorites are Scallion pancakes, Steam bbq pork bun, Sui mai & dumplings/potstickers. Those dimsums haven't failed us. I was so eager to visit this place! I was hoping to make it to the former location as I heard they had dim sum carts and were well loved by the community but I missed my chance! I visited this new location with three friends and was so excited to try the dim sum but was told they ran out. It was 5 pm during the week however, it is close to lunar new year and I think the staff were celebrating the next day...so I definitely want to come back for the dim sum. Instead we decided to split a few dishes which were super filling! I enjoyed the char siu and I loved how the tofu was prepared in our other dish. The service was fast and we were seated right away however there weren't many people. I loved Lucky Lou's in the International Village close to Saraga's. It closed, and they moved to Castleton Square Mall with a new restaurant plus a new name. With it moving so far away from me, I wanted to be a part of the Benyue Elite Week to check out the new restaurant. The restaurant is on the front side of the mall off of 82nd Street with a separate outdoor entrance from the mall. I was warmly greeted when I arrived at the hostess stand. I was taken to a small 2-top booth. You'll find small, 2 seat booths, regular booths, banquette seating, 6-top tables plus 8-top round tables. The restaurant has warm wood colors in the chairs, floors, and trim. The various textures soften the interior decor. The restaurant is impressive indoors and out. The atmosphere is peaceful, quiet, and has a calming effect on me. At the hostess stand, there are 2 steps into the dining area. The dining area is broken into 2 areas, with a half wall separating each. They have a nice open-air patio with a few places to sit. My server arrived moments after I sat down and returned with my Diet Coke quickly. My appetizer, Pork Siu Mai with Crab Roe, was excellent as well. My entree was the House Special Crispy and Spicy Chicken. I'm not much of a crisp batter person, but it was still tasty. In addition, I ordered the 2 tasty Deep Fried Shrimp Spring Rolls and 2 orders of the delicious Scallop w/Garlic Dumplings. These items were brought in courses after given time to consume the Crispy Chicken and dumplings. I love so many of the dumplings and could devour them daily. The best authentic Chinese food in town! I've been a loyal customer since this restaurant was Lucky Lou next to Saraga store on commercial drive. I'm from South Korea and I love enjoying authentic Asian food and I'm so glad that Indy has Benyue restaurant which has variety selection of authentic Chinese food and dimsum. I tried several items from dimsum menu and I never got disappointed. Some of my favorites are deep fried taro cake(crispy outside and soft inside with pork), Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce(getting stri fry green is a must!), shrimp siu mai(you must try. So juicy!), steamed dumplings(pork), house special plan fried noodle(thin crispy noodle!) and chive pancakes(in Korea, we also make pancake with chive and flavor is amazing) There are several tables and booths so I personally don't think reservation is necessary. They had more servers than last time so service should be faster now than when they first opened. Very clean and spacious inside. You can ask for it to be more or less spicy, so make sure you do that. I also has spring rolls with Sweet n sour sauce. Everything just had a taste that I was not used to. The saki was ok again, I assume it was not a taste I was used to. It seems this is more of an authentic Chinese food. They do have "American Chinese" selections. I was hoping that the new fresh start would improve the mediocre experience that I had at the previous location. Benyue offers a vast selection of traditional Chinese, Cantonese, Szechuan, Dim Sum, American Chinese, Mini Wok, and Hot Pot options; all without compromising on quality! Throughout the several dishes we've tasted in the several instances we've dined, we have been continuously impressed by the layers of complex flavors, gratifying textures, overall continuity of quality, and evident culinary technical skills used in their creation. The owner, a steadfast steward of her establishment, is the obvious heart of the restaurant. She does well in managing her staff and so graciously attends to her guests. Some of our favorite menu items (the House Signature Roasted Fish and Cumin Grilled Lamb Chops) were recommended by her; dishes we may not have thought to gravitate to otherwise. My son who attends college here terribly missed dim sum because he was taking summer classes. Since we're from NYC, where we have very good dim sum, we went looking for some. We found Benyue here on Yelp and wanted to give it a try. We came late Saturday morning and it was not as busy as I expected. It is located in a Indy suburb outside a major mall. The interior of the restaurant was modern and spacious with a bar. They have an extensive menu with authentic Chinese and American Chinese dishes. We ordered quite a bit of dim sum and noodles because we saved our appetite for this. It didn't disappoint. They were all good but the stand outs for us were the pan fried noodles, beef balls, Chinese broccoli and the minced beef rice roll. The fact that it was minced and not sliced like other Chinese dim sum places we've been to made us happy. The turnip cake can use oyster sauce on the side. We satisfied my son's dim sum craving and it was worth the drive for us. Service is friendly and efficient. Prices are higher than expected. We'll definitely be back! read more

I recently visited Benyue for a late Sunday brunch, excited to explore their diverse Asian food. I had a mixed experience during my first visit though . They were out of a lot of items on the menu and the server had to come back to us three times apologetically to let us know. It could be be Mother's Day brunch rush . However I did manage to sample two appetizers : Shrimp dumplings and Vegetable rice noodle roll! Both were good but shrimp dumplings were my favorite of the two. The ambiance was warm and inviting and the servers were helpful in giving us suggestions on the available items ! Although I was little disappointed I am going to try this place again probably on a less busy day! read more
