I love this "hole in the wall" Chinese joint! When I'm feeling the craving for take out, Chow Express has my back! The house special fried rice is my go to, but my wife swears by the sweet and sour chicken. They only have about three tables in the room, but let's be honest, nobody is going there to dine-in and those tables are really so you have some place to sit while you wait for your food. I had a hankering for some Chinese food, so I stopped off a chow express to get a to go order, it's a family run operation and the kids manage the front, I only had to wait about 10 min for my food. I had tasty sweet and sour chicken with rice, it was delicious! I also love to get egg drop soup whenever I have Chinese, and! I was surprised to get a tasty egg roll as well! Check them out! 10-24-25 wow, I think it's been a while since I've been here. I'll admit, I kind of forget they are nestled just off 75th & Shadeland. I got a large hot and sour soup, small wonton soup, bonesless spareribs, and the house special mei fun (rice noodles with shrimp, chicken and beef) -- portions are large and this is enough food for the entire weekend, ha! I ordered for a family group and way over-ordered. The portions are massive. I got I think 4 entrees and all were delicious. The crab rangoons were overcooked, but I'll give them a pass on that given how good everything else was. Will happily return when I'm in town. read more

This is our favorite local Chinese carry out restaurant. The food is always fresh and delicious. We live on the north side in Carmel, but we only use Chow Express for our carry out Chinese I especially like the broccoli + meat (chicken or beef) combo dinner which comes with steamed or fried rice and an egg roll. The general Tsao's chicken is really good too. It has a come on delayed spiciness. Their soups are also quite nice. My favorite is the dumpling soup. My wife likes egg drop soup. This popular little Chinese restaurant off North Shadeland is in a strip mall. We have been ordering carry out for about 2 years. Orders are prepared quickly and vegetables are fresh. This visit we ordered Kung Pao chicken and special ordered Shrimp with vegetables. Both meals came with choice of fried or steamed rice and egg rolls. We only waited 10 minutes for our food. We took our meals home but sometimes we eat in there little restaurant. There are about a dozen tables in their clean dining room. The food was seasoned perfectly with a little heat. The chicken was a little over breaded but the fresh celery and sauce was delicious. The mixed vegetables were crispy and included young snow peas, broccoli, mushrooms arrows and more. The shrimp had a disappointing metallic fishy taste. I was unable to eat the shrimp which was unusual from previous visits. The egg rolls also missed the mark. They were very doughy without much filling. Tonight the food missed the mark for us. Unusual from previous visits. It's been over a year since we moved to Indy and we have STILL been trying to find our home base for Asian food. With have had a couple that were just ok nothing crazy. We decided on the advise of a friend try Chow Express and boy we were not disappointed! What an excellent friendly spot. We ordered sesame chicken, general tso chicken, fried rice, and lo mein, all so hot and fresh and full of so much flavor. The fried rice was so good. My food is always fresh I noticed that they are always really busy around lunch time and dinner but they always manage to take you order quickly in a rush and the food is usually out in 10 minutes or less and very hot!! You can also see them cook you food which is always nice. The sesame chicken is amazing and the portions are big and very filling me and my boyfriend always slip an order of the sesame chicken and even with our son !I never leave reviews but I had to for this place. read more

Up until today, we have LOVED Chow Express. The food, the quick order response, and the courtesy of the staff. However, today was definitely not good at all. We ordered through Doordash as a pickup order at 11am for a pickup at 12pm. That gave them an hour ahead of time to prepare and make the order. Unfortunately, when arriving at 12pm, they hadn't even started making the order. When we told them about the order, she looked at her phone and said "oh, there it is". Now my lunch break was spent waiting on lunch when I tried to prepare ahead of time to just grab it. read more

Best Chinese food I've ever had, and Chinese is my favorite! Spicy beef, general Tsos chicken, and lo mein are our go-to's. I've also had their egg rolls, spring rolls, and chicken with garlic sauce which are all very good. My only complaint is they aren't open on Sunday, but that is minor. read more

I like the food here. I'm not a fan of the cigar smells from the neighboring business, but I always take my food to go. The staff is very nice and they seem to want you to not just enjoy your food, but enjoy your day. Downside: closed on Sundays. Even my husband the picky eater enjoys the sesame chicken. read more

Love Chow Express for lunch during the work week. Yes, it smells like cigars when you first get in the door but you'll get over it. Walk up to order, very fair lunch special prices. Fairly quick to serve your meal. Meal comes ready for a lid so you can take the rest home if need be. The best part about this place: the freshest of Chinese places I've ever been! You know that feeling you get after consuming something really greasy and it's usually Chinese food? Not here. The fried rice is still white! And its delicious. And the portions are great to have some for tomorrow's lunch. read more

I was waiting for them to reopen. They have installed a new window for all carry out orders. There is absolutely no contact with the staff. Food is placed in a box and customers open a separate door to retrieve the food. The food was outstanding as always. read more

Pretty good for a walk-up type of place. They have most of the standards, but it's not a cookie-cutter identical kind of place. No back-lit pictures. Custom menu, not the red-green "standard". The dining area is tastefully decorated in an understated way. TV up on wall. Track lighting. Serve-yourself plastic utensils/napkins. Order at counter. They will bring your food to you if you dine in. Self serve soda fountain. Dine in food served in foam to-go container. One negative is that when you walk in, you can smell some of the fresh cigars/tobacco (UN-burnt, not smoke), from the cigar/tobacco store two doors down. I stopped noticing it quickly, and it is not smoke, so it didn't bother me. The dine-in tables are a little bit too high, so they may be uncomfortable for some. read more

The orange chicken was really good - like, I'd order that again without hesitation. They give you plenty! I don't even know how I'm going to eat all the leftovers. I was expecting the small to be... well, small. Anyway. The pepper steak was just okay. It lacked flavor for me. And of course, lots of giant peppers instead of slicing them down...and a crap ton of veggies without much steak. But that's typical. The shrimp fried rice... Tasteless. I don't usually like to add more soy sauce to my food (and I didn't), but you're gonna need to drizzle the sauce from one of the other meals onto it or SOMETHING because homegirl was tasteless. Disappointing. The shrimp and broccoli was fine - exactly what you'd expect. Everything was packaged well, so I'd say attentive service for takeout. Not sure what it looks like on the inside/bathrooms/cleanliness, etc. since we did takeout, but I would go back for the orange chicken unless I find a place with better + solid shrimp fried rice. P.S. Remember when they used to automatically put eggs in the fried rice without you having to pay extra? I miss those days.

I didn't think they accepted my order because they didn't ask for my name or anything but when I arrived the food was ready so I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. However, the restaurant didn't look clean as I could see inside the kitchen from the check in counter, BUT the food was delicious! As someone from the west coast who is used to a wide variety of multicultural food, I was very happy to find this place because it tasted authentic. You can tell the two workers care about the service they're providing so I will be back!
