I ordered a lunch steamed chicken with veggies (like I order at other fast food Chinese restaurants) with 2 spring rolls as sub for the pork eggrolls. Surprisingly, the white meat chicken was extremely dry so I added low sodium soy sauce. I was not told that celery was included which I would have asked them to hold. I was surprised to see bok choy which I appreciate. The spring rolls were uncommonly, extremely moist with rice noodles, which I greatly enjoyed. Beware that lunch specials are now (Dec. 2025) $10.50 each. Also, I ordered dim sum of $5.95 pan fried pot chicken stickers (dumplings) which were awesome. How have I never noticed this place before?? I think we finally found our go-to Chinese after living on the south side of Indianapolis for 15 years. Huge menu with something for everyone and fantastic flavors. My husband got the orange chicken and I had the stir fried beef with fresh chili. I was not expecting so many vegetables but it had a really nice flavor and just a little heat. We also had the green beans, which we shared and you can have them cooked a couple different ways but we went with the Szechuan style. They were great! Super nice older lady that was our server. I'm guessing she is an owner and she seemed to recognize a lot of the regulars and knew what they wanted to order. We were in Greenwood at lunchtime and decided to visit one of our favorite places, Lotus Garden. There is never a wait to be seated on a weekday and the prices of lunch specials can't be beat. We got a friendly greeting as we entered and a booth right away. I had my favorites, Kung bao tofu, eggroll, and hot and sour soup. The soup is delicious and very close to the soup at the old restaurant location. Egg rolls are served piping hot and accompanied by a mix of sweet and sour sauce mixed with hot mustard. It's hard to find that mustard anywhere else. All the food was great and we had enough for leftovers too. I had a glass of Merlot with lunch and it was a very generous pour. Ambiance: This place has the styling of a Chinese banquet hall but with some rough edges. There are accent walls in the front with a very modern feel while other areas feel much more traditional, there are taped up paper signs to watch your step and some of the glass looks like it hasn't been cleaned in forever. It kind of feels like they never freshened up after COVID. The staff are very friendly however and speak Cantonese and Mandarin. Food can take a little while to come out but did seem fresh. Food: We ordered from both the dim sum and lunch menu. The standard ha gow/shrimp dumpling, siu mai, bbq pork bun, and turnip cake were overall very good. The flavors were spot-on although there was room for improvement on some of the textures. For instance, they use rough chopped shrimp and the har gow rice wrapper was on the thicker side so these were a little tougher to chew. The regular menu items were a bigger disappointment. The Szechuan green beans weren't really fried and didn't have that puckery golden skin I was hoping for (an is in the picture on their menu). We also got the beef brisket noodle which was honestly a little thin and bland, not spicy at all for a reportedly szechuan dish. The meal did come with a complimentary egg roll and fried rice which was a nice touch. The egg roll tasted very fresh with wilted cabbage inside and comes out scorching hot like it came out directly from their deep fryer. The fried rice, however, was flavorless. It didn't have any egg, carrots, or peas and it tasted like it was made using only dark soy sauce which lacks the salinity and brightness of light soy sauce. Overall Lotus Garden was hit or miss. We enjoyed the dim sum and, if we don't find a better place, likely will come back just for that. The regular menu however looked and tasted pretty americanized. I will say the prices and portions are very fair but it ultimately doesn't live up to my standards as an american-born chinese person who grew up with good chinese food on the west coast. read more

I wish this was the old Lotus Garden menu. I'm never going to get over it. They have a few old standbys that are reminiscent of the old place, but the overall menu has been pretty Americanized. After living in NY the OG Lotus Garden was the only place that could scratch my East Coast Chinese food itch. The service is fine. The guy packing up my food and ringing me up was eating while he was helping me. Like, popping food into his mouth by hand and then handling my bags and payment. It's fine. Everyone has to eat, but it was a lil weird. As far as Chinese food in the area goes, this is probably some of the best. read more

Their egg rolls used to be the best around now they don't even make them in house, apparently because they are half the size they were and the filling is completely different as well. The entrée I ordered was Kung pow chicken, and that was not as advertised. Menu said it should have zucchini in it and there was not one shredded of zucchini, the sauce was thick and gloppy, and the vegetables were overcooked. It was totally in a nutshell disgusting. The chicken was tough as well. The only good thing that I ordered was the wonton soup. I will not order from here again as it is not high quality or even mid quality. read more

2nd time at new location. Ordered my original favorite War Sue Gai and was a huge disappointment. The original restaurant used to be a nice boneless chicken breast lightly battered and then sliced with nice rich brown gravy with a nice serving of pea pods, carrots, chinese cabbage and water chestnuts. They have your standard American Chinese dishes (General Tso's, Hunan Chicken, Mongolian Beef, etc), but they also have choices that you would typically find in Chicago China town such as Pan Fried Noodles, Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, Fish Fillet w/ Mixed Vegetables (we ordered those 3), Smoked Tea Duck, Lamb w/ Cumin Powder to name a couple more - there is also Dim Sum to choose from which you don't see too often. I was so nervous to try the lotus at this new location, but because my family and I have been frequent fliers of the lotus since before I was born, I had to give it a try. When the old location turned into a car wash, I thought this piece of history might have been lost forever. The last Lotus Garden was finally gone. But it reappeared! And, unlike so many other restaurants, it moved from Greenwood to Indianapolis. It's no longer in a distinctive standalone building. It's in a strip mall attached to Walmart. At least, this is the strip mall that has birthed other greats like Ichiban. Some things have been lost to history, unfortunately. The tiki bar is now just a regular bar with beers such as Tsingtao. The food is still the same, though. War su gai is back! Sometimes, the places you remember do come back and it is important to support them so they stay around. Lotus Garden Finally made it to the new Lotus Garden. They are now located in the l shaped strip mall where the Walmart is on US31 near Shelby Street. Overall the new place is real nice, spacious and a large wide open dining room. I ordered the Hot & Sour Soup... it seemed the same as before and they brought the hard noodles to put in the soup. I also ordered the Crab Rangoon, it was good, but they did not bring any sauce with it ‍ For my main course I got the combo Fried Rice. It was a large portion and delicious. I did miss the old way they use to bring it out with a lid on it. Service was very good and they started getting busy when I left. 1st time here. Happy to see Dim Sum. The fried shrimp eggroll was perfect. The shimp Was done perfectly and the egg roll wrapper was nice and crispy. We ordered the beef Chow he fun as it has always been a family favorite at other restaurants and the Mu shu Shrimp .... It took a very long time for food to come to the table. the Beef in the chow fun was tender but there was not much there. The noodles were clumped together and they tasted more of oil than beef sauce. the noodles were tender, but there was very little flavor beyond the oil. The Mu Shu Shrimp came with small flour tortillas. Not the tender chinese pancakes that they are served with at other restaurants. Overall disappointed. Had so much hope. read more

My husband and I have been wanting a good Chinese restaurant on the south side. Since Mark Pis closed we've been unsatisfied until now. We had great service from Dustin. He was quick to take our lunch order and recommend items and had a genuine smile. My husband ordered cashew chicken. Medium spicy. And I ordered sesame chicken. Both dishes were delicious. We shared the crab Rangoon. Very good! I also ordered a cup of hot and sour soup. It was so good. We'd recommend lotus garden. Just look past the entrance and some of the older tables etc. It's a big restaurant inside and the only negative I have is the entrance is rough and some of the seating is uncomfortable. I have been here three times and all 3 pick up orders. 2 times I order from their lunch menu and the appetizer menu (they have those in a desk when you enter through the first double door) and the food does not reflect the high price. I got the shrimp dumplings it was over $6 for 4 pieces and took them 25 min to have it ready when there were only 4 people eating at the restaurant. The second time I ordered food, I got pork spare ribs from the app menu and lo main, they gave like 5 1" bone in pork ribs for over $6. The noodles were dry and the only thing I can taste it soy sauce. There were barely any vegetables in it. The hot and sour soup was a bit weird, I think they put too much cornstarch and no egg. The guy brought out the food he just threw it in the desk even though I extended my hand. Again they were not busy to I don't understand the rudeness. The main menu dishes are also not there great. Honestly I think some of the local/budget friendly Chinese restaurants have the same quality of food. read more

I hadn't been to Lotus since they moved from their Whiteland location. The new space, while rather oddly located in a strip beside Walmart, was surprisingly spacious and still had a nice interior vibe. My friend and I went here for dinner on Christmas Day, so we were already expecting it to be packed, and/or have long wait times. But upon being promptly greeted and seated (though our server kindly moved us to a different table so we wouldn't get hit by a draft every time the front door opened), we soon had drinks and food orders were placed. Our food came out piping hot within a surprising 45 minutes. I ordered the Szechuan Chicken -a traditionally spicy dish that most restaurants dumb down for American taste buds, but this had all spice/flavor/kick I could've asked for and more! My friend got Eggplant in Garlic Sauce -probably not something I would've considered ordering prior, but it's now on my recommendation list for when I go back. The only reason for my 4/5 star rating, is because there must've been a shift change after we received our food. I never saw our server again. We finished eating, and waited for about 15 minutes, before walking to the front of the restaurant and asking someone if we could pay. Overall great service for a very hectic day, so I'm sure normally staffed/non-holiday weeks are even better. Looking forward to going back! read more

I have been going to Lotus Garden for literally decades. I actually used to work at the one on North Keystone in Indianapolis many, many years ago. One dish I could always count on to be good was the pork fried rice. Sadly, since they've moved to this new location the pork fried rice is nothing like it used to be. It's so DRY, for one thing! The flavor is lacking, like there's some ingredient missing from it (NOT peas and carrots - I can't stand peas and carrots in my fried rice!) The eggrolls are still pretty good, but again, nothing like they used to be. Since the pork fried rice has gone downhill I have tried a few other dishes recently. Cashew chicken - yuck. It's in a white sauce, with large, barely-cooked hunks of vegetables. I used chopsticks to pick out the chicken and the cashews and left the rest of it and was still hungry when I left. The next time I tried the General Tso's Chicken. It was a few BIG breaded pieces of chicken that were mostly breading with very little meat, in a dark sauce that was okay but scanty, and again with the big chunks of barely-cooked vegetables. Not to my taste! The wonton soup has also changed - they seem to be putting a lot of what appears to be lettuce floating in the soup. This is NOT how wonton soup was made in previous years. They have stripped down their menu - no longer do they offer pu-pu platters, which used to be a great favorite. I'm afraid that I won't be returning to Lotus Garden anytime soon. read more

Lotus Garden has been a staple of this community for many, many years and we are so glad to see it back in its new location! Our server Joe was very attentive to detail and made us feel as if we were having a 5 star dining experience. He brought out coffee, tea, and fried noodles to start our meal before we ordered. Food was fresh and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the fried shrimp rolls and we were pleased to know that the egg rolls are the orginal recipe from the old location. If you enjoy spicy, the Szechuan Chicken will be perfect for you! The perfect amount of spice to complement the dish. We were really impressed with the Yang Zhou Fried Rice, which Joe described to us as an authentic Chinese fried rice without soy sauce. I highly recommend. Welcome back Lotus Garden! So, Lotus Garden is back!!!!! My family and I just had dinner here a few hours ago, now I'll start off by saying it taste good maybe not like it used to at the Greenwood location but still tasty. From what I heard I guess they have a different chef from the one they used to have. I heard some of the people complaining to others saying it's just not the same but I say get over it, they still taste better than a lot of other Chinese restaurants out there. First thing I have to say that needs to be better, they need to have a host to seat you cause there was a couple in front of us that said they were standing there for awhile not even being acknowledged. Once they sat them we got seated but even we waited a bit. Second thing they might want to do, is to get a kid's menu, they had one at the old location so why take it away from this new location?!?! We had to order a adult sized meal for our little 10 year old daughter and she did not finish it, so that was $15 that pretty much was wasted. Now to get to my all time favorite meal I used to get at the Greenwood location was the Sweet and Sour Chicken, it was still tasty but the sauce was a bit different but no complaints here. I mean I really was hoping it was going to taste the same like it used to, but what you gonna do?! All the staff were friendly, seen a lot of the same staff that worked at Greenwood location, they could speed up a little though on waiting on you and such, there was a bunch waiting around tonight. My family and I said that we will be back sometime cause we still enjoyed our meals. Might not be the same but still tasty!
