I've developed a habit of trying out popular menu items made with ingredients that I know I won't like, just to see what all the hype is about. I did this a few days ago at Bergen Bagels. I ordered a Spicy Popeye bagel which had spinach of course, fried egg, sliced turkey and cheese. The "ick" for me was that the added ingredient on this specialty bagel is hot sauce. Hot sauce. Of course I didn't like it but I just had to try it. Pretty good bagel overall but the hot sauce was about as necessary on this bagel as mustard on spaghetti. Every Bergen Bagels location is usually packed and busy from opening till closing. Not my type of vibe but I'm sure I'll be back. No hot sauce though! read more

I used to come to Bergen bagels years ago and it was always really tasty and fresh. I decided to stop by when I was on my way to work the other day. And it's not quite like I remember. The staff was friendly. But the food in the cream cheeses in the case looked a little old and dry. I settled on a salt bagel with cream cheese (just to be safe rather than sorry). The bagel wasn't quite the same texture, of a regular boiled and baked,New York bagel. The cream cheese texture was also "off", it was almost whipped, with a fairly thin schmear. I recently read that Bergen Bagel was number 1 in Brooklyn for 2024, I wouldn't go that far but it is reliable and typically delicious. I am grateful for the vegan options they have and I always get a toasted whole wheat everything with tofu cream cheese. Note that they do have other flavors of vegan cream cheese and many many spread varieties. My partner has tried the French toast bagel and doesn't recommend it, he relies on the buttery everything bagel at this point. Service is fast, the place is clean and efficient. I'll always keep this bagel joint in my rolodex. read more

A vegan, a pescatarian, and a person with a gluten allergy walk into a bar, and then probably go over to Bergen bagels for lunch, because they've got pretty much everything on their menu so can please anyone that stops in. I don't think anything I've gotten here has been truly outstanding, but it's been good enough, and again, they literally have whatever you're looking. Imagine a Cheesecake Factory menu for a grab and go bagel/açaí bowl lunch type spot. Staff is always friendly and they are hustling to pump the food and drinks out. Wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but when it's a random holiday like Presidents' Day where half of everything is closed, these guys won't be. read more

I went to Bergen Bagels last weekend, as I was walking in the area and was craving a bagel. I don't normally get a lox sandwich (and opt for the spread instead), but decided to treat myself. Pros: -fast and friendly service -very fresh lox! -huge bagel and nice portions of toppings -the bagel itself was fresh and yummy -not too crowded - I liked that this place wasn't a "trendy" bagel shop that attracts too many people Cons: -expensive! The bagel itself was pretty cheap (and cheaper than other spots around) and I didn't see this sandwich listed, so wasn't sure what the price would be. There's a short brown skin employee that's very rude. For example, I asked for an iced coffee while waiting for my omelette. He never acknowledged that he heard me. I asked again and he became a little snappy with me saying "it's right there" pointing to the drink on the side of the register. Why would you....never mind So anyway, I ordered the Greek omelette. It taste like the cook just didn't feel like shaking the salt sparingly, instead just said F it and poured the whole bottle. Omg wayyy to salty -he probably used too much feta cheese. I've been here a few times and never had this experience before. I'm willing to give them another shot. Normally, I'll have a bagel and tea or coffee. I love the Bergen Bagel location off of Flatbush Ave, but this one didn't wow me as much. I got the Healthy Man: 2 eggs over easy with avocado, salt and pepper on whole wheat toast and added bacon. Admittedly I should have gotten the BAGEL because it is called Bergen BAGEL, but I thought if they are offering whole wheat toast on the menu, it should be equally as tasty. The fillings were good, no complaints. But the bread was pretty terrible. It was dense, tasted like rye and not appetizing. I only go to this place when I'm in a hurry and hungry as it is only a 3-min walk. My distaste for this place happened a few months back when I was over charged $10 and caught it just in time. Instead of giving me the card credit, I was given $10 in cash. Mathematically, no difference, but I found it odd. I have avoided the place as I don't trust the staff. Today, I returned, and ordered a bagel, lox and onion, no cream cheese. I was charged $12.79. I told the cashier the charge seemed high and he said, it's the same price with or without cream cheese. HUH? I gave two stars for the decent bagel. I recommend you double check the charges before you close your transaction. read more

I had a week long stay in Brooklyn and found Bergen Bagels right down the street from the brownstone I was in. I went there a few times during my stay and had a good experience each time. The staff were very friendly and patient with my decision paralysis from the sheer amount of cream cheese options they had there. The everything bagel was a bit salty but overall good. I had their chicken salad which was pretty good and, on another visit their, veggie cream cheese which was really good. Bergen is forever my favorite bagel spot! When I used to go to Pratt, I would eat here almost every other day (so healthy, I know). Now that I moved to Miami, I desperately miss my Bergen Bagels and obviously had to come back on my visit for old times sake (a 45 min trip from where I was staying just for these damn bagels). This place is horrible, it's gross every time, and the service is terrible. I got a burnt and cold bagel (how did they even manage to do that) and the guy in front if me asked for a coffee cup lid for his coffee, which somehow deserved a bad attitude from the employee. The cashier ignored me as I stood there, card out, waiting to pay & instead wipes stuff and would not ring me up. Bergen's has a pretty serious selection of cream cheeses and other types of spreads. Have you ever wanted a certain thing on your bagel? Well, as long as that thing is not a completely weird choice for a bagel topping, chances are, Bergen has it. I've tried, in order of deliciousness: -garlic cream cheese ** -basil cream cheese ** -walnut raisin cream cheese -sun dried tomato cream cheese -chive cream cheese -strawberry cream cheese * They have some seasonal cream cheese flavors (pumpkin! gingerbread! egg nog!) which I also hope to try soon. The bagels themselves are pretty good...NYC water... you know the drill. However, DO NOT ask for a salt bagel unless you have some sort of severe sodium deficiency. It is WAY too salty for the average human. I've had Bergen's iced coffee a few times, and also their hazlenut iced coffee, which is actual hazlenut coffee (no syrup). It's always been a tasty complement to my bagel. The staff has always been attentive and friendly enough. I've always just gotten my stuff to go, but there's a decent amount of seating available if you feel like it. The look of the store itself is pretty unremarkable... so just sit down and concentrate on your food. By the way, for the person who said the location is next to the C train...this is not that location.
