lol everything bagel toasted with butter please
Allison D.

I recently read that Bergen Bagel was number 1 in Brooklyn for 2024, I wouldn't go that far but it is reliable and typically delicious. I am grateful for the vegan options they have and I always get a toasted whole wheat everything with tofu cream cheese. Note that they do have other flavors of vegan cream cheese and many many spread varieties. My partner has tried the French toast bagel and doesn't recommend it, he relies on the buttery everything bagel at this point. Service is fast, the place is clean and efficient. I'll always keep this bagel joint in my rolodex.

So many cream cheese types!

I kinda LOVE this place. It's real close to my boyfriends place so it was just kinda the easy place to go to get bagels. However, it's just ended up being my favourite place for bagels. Everything bagel is my fave! The employees are AWESOMELY friendly and the service is quick. In, out, yum; just how I love it! 5 stars

Whole wheat everything bagel with tomato, onion lox and cream cheese

I went to Bergen Bagels last weekend, as I was walking in the area and was craving a bagel. I don't normally get a lox sandwich (and opt for the spread instead), but decided to treat myself. Pros: -fast and friendly service -very fresh lox! -huge bagel and nice portions of toppings -the bagel itself was fresh and yummy -not too crowded - I liked that this place wasn't a "trendy" bagel shop that attracts too many people Cons: -expensive! The bagel itself was pretty cheap (and cheaper than other spots around) and I didn't see this sandwich listed, so wasn't sure what the price would be. Was a bit surprised when it was $17 (if I recall correctly) If I were in the area I'd definitely go back! And maybe just for for a simpler bagel to save a few $.

There's a short brown skin employee that's very rude. For example, I asked for an iced coffee while waiting for my omelette. He never acknowledged that he heard me. I asked again and he became a little snappy with me saying "it's right there" pointing to the drink on the side of the register. Why would you....never mind So anyway, I ordered the Greek omelette. It taste like the cook just didn't feel like shaking the salt sparingly, instead just said F it and poured the whole bottle. Omg wayyy to salty -he probably used too much feta cheese. I've been here a few times and never had this experience before. I'm willing to give them another shot. Normally, I'll have a bagel and tea or coffee. No pic of the omelette since it went straight in the garbage after the first bite.

Healthy Man with bacon

I love the Bergen Bagel location off of Flatbush Ave, but this one didn't wow me as much. I got the Healthy Man: 2 eggs over easy with avocado, salt and pepper on whole wheat toast and added bacon. Admittedly I should have gotten the BAGEL because it is called Bergen BAGEL, but I thought if they are offering whole wheat toast on the menu, it should be equally as tasty. The fillings were good, no complaints. But the bread was pretty terrible. It was dense, tasted like rye and not appetizing. I would come back for the convenience, but will stick to the bagels.

Everything bagel with regular cream cheese

The bagels are super affordable to make up for the pricey SHMEAR and add-ons, which were 100% worth it. This is a NY bagel staple! I appreciated the insane amount of cream cheese they provided. These bagels can definitely be split if you're not starving!

Scallion Cream Cheese Sandwich

I woke up one morning craving bagels so I took a 15 minute walk over here--big mistake! I ordered a scallion bagel sandwich and an iced coffee. First off, the iced coffee was super gross. It was so sour. What do they use? Instant coffee?! Save your $3. McDonald's makes better coffee for less. As for the bagel, it wasn't bad, but nothing special. Also $5 min for credit cards.

The ice coffee I got here while visiting a friend was really good. Usually when i get ice coffee i had to add things in it to make it how i i like it. But not this time which was a first for me. There is seating inside and outside for these summer days coming up.

Everything bagel missing the everything...where are the toppings? Do better Bergen!
L R.

Someone please tell me how this place remains open with such lackluster bagels? Come on guys, you can do better! The bagels are hunks of dough with very little flavor. Look at the pic of this everything bagel - everything on that? I don't think so. That thing is bare. Bagels should be covered in whatever the topping is supposed to be and yet Bergen can't figure out how to do that. Also - sandwiches are mad expensive and underwhelming. I suggest going to any deli on the block and getting something better

If you are in the neighborhood, you should pop in and buy something to show your respect. What you should buy is the herring. And specifically, if you happen to be lucky enough to stroll in during Holland Herring season in June/July, that is the herring to get. Even if you just had a giant meat based meal a couple doors down, you can still make room for one herring. Consider it the Jewish equivalent of surf and turf. Although one of my friends said visiting both LES icons was more akin to a "bang bang". Sometimes it's the small shops that make the biggest mark. This is certainly the case with R&D. The place is tiny, but the fish is mighty. I can't speak highly enough about the Holland Herring. So silky. So delicate. So much fun to eat. Held up by the tail, dragged through a mix of chopped onions and pickles, and lowered down into your awaiting mouth. These things are large. They are going to take a few good sized bites. Enjoy the contrast of textures and flavors. Tilting your head back to eat it almost demands that you close your eyes and savor every moment. Yes, the entire herring case is a marvel. While most folks will walk out of R&D with nova (what most people call lox, but is really cold smoked salmon), the real score is the sable and sturgeon. Or, if you are a salt lover, you can get legitimate belly lox here too. It satisfies the soul to see an appetizing store holding the line. Sure, you can put your smoked fish on a bagel or bialy with cream cheese. However, I submit that fish this good should really be enjoyed in its purest form. Maybe if you want to cut the salt, lay some on a thin piece of old world 100% rye bread. Not the squishy deli stuff, but the hard eastern European kind. Perhaps a dolop of sour cream. A few chives if feeling fancy. My old cantor used to love creamed herring with pickled onions on chunks of challah. If you go the herring route and it's not Holland Herring season, I fully endorse this approach. But don't sleep on the Holland Herring. Get one. Eat it on the bench outside or bring it across the street and eat it standing up in the park. I heard rumor that once upon a time folks would eat them right at the counter. That seems a little messy for my taste, but far be it from me to keep a herring lover from their delightful fishy morsels.

It's a pretty spacious bagel spot with ample seating menu's with pricing for all items they sell which is helpful. Food: 3/5 I ordered a jalapeño bagel with turkey bacon, and scrambled eggs. The bagel was okay nothing to rave about your standard bagel. Nothing to make me fave about it. The texture was chewy and a bit doughy if you like your bagels that texture this may be the spot for you. Overall my bagel was about 10-12$ I believe. They charge extra for a rainbow bagel and other specialty bagels like jalapeño. Which is pretty expensive so make sure you're aware of that. Service: 3/5 The customer service was mediocre. The guy at the front wasn't the most pleasant. Very much get you in an out top of place. They weren't rude but not the most cheerful I'd say. Ambiance: 3/5 standers bagel shop nothing really impressive or spectacular. I will say when in the area due to the lack of places to eat that make REAL food. I have come back here and the bagels have been decent. Would like the staff to be more pleasant.
