Last night I attended a birthday party with around 40-50 people. We had a reservation so plenty of notice for the staff. We had horrible service. First off, we had to pretty much go to the bar for all our orders. 2 of the bartenders were either drunk or high or both. This is not just an accusation this is a fact. The bartender with the beard even told my girlfriend to fuck off because he misunderstood what she said. I also waited 40 mins to close out my tab while bartender went over to a table and chatted with someone completely ignoring the 15 people at the bar. I'm sure the food and beer are good here and even better than good. Our whole party works in the service industry. Guest service is more important than good food and drinks. I will give a good review to the awesome karaoke host, who really made the birthday girl the center of attention. read more

Always delicious food, always good beer. The one thing keeping me from giving the Berliner 4 stars is the priciness. It's a little expensive for humble German fare. If you stick with sausages, though, it's slightly more reasonable. Aside from that, I do wish spaetzl came with all of the schnitzel dishes. read more

Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. After sitting down for 10 minutes we were rudely greeted by the bartender Mickey. "What do you want to drink". We could tell we were majorly inconveniencing him. So we ordered and about 45 minutes later our "server" came by and looked at the table and said "no food yet?" Well...no...so finally our food came and was cold. I asked for some hot fries. 15 minutes later the fries came but I wanted to get the hell out of this place so just left. I've been coming to this pub for a long time and absolutely love it. Great selection of German ales on draft and in bottles not to mention full liquor and wine if beer isn't your cup of...well beer lol. Their bratzels are huge and we love it desert style with cream cheese and syrup. I personally love finger food and get the landjaeger and kase plate quite often but the brats are amazing too. Pretty good place. I went there on my birthday on a Friday night around 7:00. It was crowded, and my party was in a corner outside so I thought we wouldn't get service. We did but it did take a little while (they got busy right after we got there and our drinks took a bit to come) but they have deep fried pickles that are so good and for $7 you get a lot. I want to go back just for that. They have have a veggie sausage which my boyfriend got and he really enjoyed it. I would go back but maybe not on a Friday night! :) read more

Dropped in with my visiting parents, atmosphere is fun and inviting. The waitstaff is busy but courteous and attentive given how many tables they are covering. I had a delicious porter, everyone who ordered beer at the table was happy with their selection. We were a diverse group with our beer selection and each one was a hit! The fried pickles were great and the portion was so huge our table of 6 couldn't finish it! The pretzel wasn't as good as I expected it to be but the beer cheese saved the day. The schnitzel was a bit thin and the fry was dark but it was still tasty. Sauerkraut was tasty but the red cabbage is better. All in all we were happy customers! read more

We were hungry at 7pm on a Saturday in Renton, so spurred on by good yelp reviews and a love for German beer and food, we stopped by the Berliner Pub. My review can be summed up with one word: Yipes . First was the pothole filled parking lot. Then was the sketchy dudebros loitering outside. Then we walked inside and a pack of wild children screamed by us. Beyond them was darkness and a wall of sound - dueling pianos and a mass of drunk adults acting like college students at a meat market bar in Fremont assaulted the senses. Disoriented and thoroughly sketched out, I looked at the host who looked back at me equally disoriented. I guess it was crazy talk that we were looking for dinner at this time at night because they were full and would be for eternity (he gave us no wait time, just a head shake). That was fine. We headed straight to the Red House down the street and had a delicious and peaceful time there. Every time we pass the Berliner, we laugh about our time trying to eat there. I seem to only write reviews when an experience is bad. That being said... This place is busy. I get that. But the kitchen and the bartender seem to be able to keep up just fine. It's the servers who are faltering tonight. They seem very disorganized in their efforts and seem to do more of serving over each other than helping each other out. I almost walked out before ever getting any kind of acknowledgement from anybody. Upon arriving it took about 16 minutes before anybody even came over to the table. And we were sitting fairly close to the server station too. The food is very good. They're nice when you get service. The beers are interesting, good, and different. The first time I was here the bartender was terrible though. Very unfriendly and seemed to be burdened to wait on anybody at the bar. No experience with any bartender this time. Perfect example of how these servers walk over each other more than help each other... One of them asked me if I wanted another beer. I said yes. That was about 15 minutes ago. Since then I've gotten the check. No beer. Time to go elsewhere. read more

Holy cow this place is popular! We tried to eat here one Friday and couldn't find parking in the area and so wound up getting Italian instead. Then a few weeks later (also on a Friday) I got this real hankering for a decent schnitzel and so off we went again. It was earlier in the evening so we managed to cadge a space in the lot across the street, but inside the place was packed. No table seating for two, so we wound up in corner seats at the fireside bar. Considering how crazy crowded it was, I thought the service was quite prompt. (It may have helped that we checked in at the wait station as soon as we walked in, to find out if it was strictly self-seating, so we had the waitress's attention already.) We ordered beers (from the very long menu of German beers) and a wiener schnitzel each (with hot German potato salad, and red cabbage) from the somewhat less boggling food menu. The wiener schnitzels are *huge* - about the size of a Little League catcher's mitt, no lie - and excellent: meat pounded very thin, breaded, and fried to a perfect state of crispy-outside, tender-inside doneness. The potato salad was a little on the mild side (I like to really taste the vinegar in the dressing, and the bacon) but tasty too, and the red cabbage was lovely. On the whole a very authentic and seriously filling meal -- no appetizer required unless you're a starting linebacker. Atmosphere-wise it's not exactly my kind of place -- I don't care for bars and pubs that have sports going on TV sets (and I realize that makes me something of an antique), and I don't usually like to eat or drink in places that are quite this loud, but that said, the loud crowd was amiable and friendly, and sprinkled with real Germans (right down to the boar-bristle hat), the modernized oompah-band was amusing (it took us a while to realize that what sounded like a tuba was being produced via electronic processing by the *bass* player), and the massive wall of personal beer steins implies a large following of loyal customers, and that always speaks well of a place. Overall, pretty happy experience, even with the noisiness. We will definitely go back at some point, but I think we'll try to find a day of the week and time of day that's less popular. And if you like German food, German beer, and don't mind squeezing in among a loud, enthusiastic crowd of jolly, Deutchsprechende fellow-travelers to get them, this will be your place. read more

This place has good potential. I just wasn't impressed. Our server was new, which I understand, but... When I walk into a German place and have questions regarding German food and beer I would expect the the person serving me would have SOME knowledge on their products! Not the case here. I told her that I usually drink IPAs so I wanted to know what she would recommend that would be in comparison. She brought me a 16oz glass of something that was comparable to bud light. Barf! I had to send it back. We had a party of six. Two of our guests ordered the same exact meal, but it was delivered made completely differently. How do you not realize that one of the two meals is missing half of the toppings??? This is how our night went. It seemed like they didn't really have their sh#! Together in the kitchen or on the floor. The pretzel and corn dogs were the best things we ordered. Skip the burger, nothing to write home about. I really enjoy the atmosphere but the cheesy outfits I could do without. I'll give it one more shot, hopefully we'll have a better server! read more

It hurts me to give this place 3-stars instead of 4 or 5. I'd come back and change my review in the future if changes were made, but until then, it's only 3 stars. The pros: - awesome food. The pretzel, the cheese soup, the schnitzel sandwich, the brats- I could go on forever. I love it and it's always good. - the beer selection. Huge and amazing. - the layout/decor. I love the feel of the place and the dark out feel and benches etc etc The cons: - the service. Perpetually understaffed, and half of the waitstaff is utter crap. I think the hiring process must be 'you look good in a costume version of a dirndl, you're hired' because I can think of 2 or 3 servers we go out of our way to avoid. Don't come here if you're in a hurry because you'll be waiting forever - the bathroom. I had a hobo spider run across the floor in there. It's dark, creepy, and needs a face lift to match the rest of the place. - the sound. If you bill yourself as a pub that has sports, you should have a sound system that's actually audible - poor employee/owner behavior. I watched a good chunk of my World Cup games here and as it was packed, I got stuck outside a few times, which I don't mind. What I do mind is the children allowed to run rampant outside (children who were clearly connected to the employees or owners in some way), throwing stuff that hits me and other patrons and knocking our drinks over. It's not the other waitresses and/or patrons jobs to watch your ill-mannered children while you get drunk. Find a baby sitter or teach them how to behave in public. I'll continue to come here for the occasional soccer game, but with Renton offering new alternatives as it remodels itself, there might be a day I don't return. read more

And was crushed by the entire experience.... No co2 for the soda gun.... Beer list minute.. Mostly southern German beers.. Berlin is on north Germany.... And boy oh boy.... The food.... It sucked..... Cold fries, cold bottled red cabbage.... A schnitzel that had more in common with a breaded deep fried piece of leather than a tender piece of meat that it should be.... The menu was clearly written to include as few actual German items as possible..... Berliner Kobe sliders..... Really???! Goodbye Berliner.... Berliner Pub is a work in progress. Im just happy that it is there. Definitely NOT as snobby as the Frierabend. Yeah, the service can be spotty, but they are constanly making improvements and getting better day by day. 1st off, a new business has to survive. They have a good core to start with and given some time they will get more and more polished as time goes by. The staff they have now is very personable and will bend over backwards to make your visit a pleasureable one. Just dont be a jerk. Have some patience, Seattle snobs, this isnt the Palisades. The waitresses are FAR from slutty looking, yet you give a crap about an autographed picture of the Hoff? Geez, how shallow.. and NO the Bavarian outfits are not a cheap gimmick, or demeaming to women. The waitresses take great pride in them....&.they are not forced to wear pigtails when they wear the outifts, they CHOOSE to wear them to create the ambience. Leavenworth doesnt even do that, not even close. These folks are working HARD for a living and given half a chance, if you treat them like HUMAN BEINGS, and not your personal servants, they will deliver every time. The Beer selection is excellent and varied, always something there to please the palate. Food is standard, a pinch above English food, which isnt saying much, but there are gems on the menu. Came here to meet up with some of the Chive people in Washington. They have a badass karaoke night which has a karaoke master who keeps the party going. Also it seems that everyone is a professional singer at this bar but whatever. I really loved the fact this was a traditional German bar.. It had amazing German food that reminded me of home. This place has bad customer service. My friend and I sat at the center table with the fire for an hour and a half and there were 3 other couples sitting there as well. During our whole time there, two men probably supervisors or managers came around and asked the other three couples a total of four times, how everything was and if they needed anything BUT did NOT ask my friend or I NOT even once. Seriously bad service which is too bad since this place was highly recommended to me for a future class reunion venue. I will definitely not be bringing that business to them. I used to enjoy this place for their German beer on draft but unfortunately they now seem to have hired some staff with a very poor attitude. I feel like every time I have been in there lately this has been the case and I will prob stop coming here after last night. I took my friend here around 9pm last night we were on our way home from the city and were looking to grab some dinner. We sat ourselves in the bar area and we were the only table occupied yet it took the bartender at least 10 minutes to come approach us with menus. He was very short and made us feel like he didn't want us to be there because we may have not been one of his cliquish regulars so we decided to get up and leave and on our way out he shouted "Sorry I wasn't good enough for you!" across the bar. We went to go get Mexican instead and I recommend you go do the same and skip this place all together or sit in the dining room only and not even deal with that rude bartender! Also unfortunately their German food is not very authentic at all. I am a native German born and raised and their food is a pretty sad attempt at making things like Potato salad the correct way. The only thing I like here is the real german beers on draft minus the food and minus the rude bartender. If you are looking for a better local place to eat in Renton I recommend you check out either the Local 907 with what I think is probably the best Reuben Sandwich anywhere or for a nice romantic relaxed place go to the Peyrasol Cafe or the Melrose Grill for a good Ribeye. If you are looking for German food and beer somewhere else I would recommend Altstadt in Seattles Pioneer Square area. Prost! read more

I like the atmosphere for sure. Their beer list does not include any domestic crappy beer (bud light, etc..) and the food menu is not very extensive. I used to think the food was good, but it's gone downhill a little. Seriously, it takes FOREVER to get service no matter how un-crowded it is. If people want to go there, we have cash ready to lay down so we don't have to wait an extra 30 mins for our card to be run. I don't know what they have the servers doing behind the bar, but they certainly aren't getting beers or serving food 90% of the time. read more

bad food lousy service......went here cause the gf wanted German food.....even she said that her schnitzel was sub par! I ordered the Jager Schnitzel and the noodles were doughy the gravy tasted like salted mud and the mushrooms(what few there were were probally cheap chineese imports from a can! the waitress came by and asked "tasty?" before I could reply she was gone in a flash! then she came back and asked want a box I said no this food is crap! (Ir eally didnt eat it!)e than said want anything else? I said no.....then brought a check for BOTH meals! when I asked her to take mine off she said "well I offered you something else and you didnt say anything when I came by!" This place has all the charm needed to fulfil for it to be a German styled bar. They gave a very diverse selection of German beers on tap as well as in bottle. The food portion are excellent. I planned to have the signature pretzel and then a burger but the pretzel was more than enough. My wife got the cheese platter as well as the pâté and couldn't finish it either. The cheeses were very good choices. We will be back to try more! read more
