I have to start off with that I have lived in Falmouth less than a mile down the road for five years now. I keep trying to like this place. I have given this place a chance over and over as I expect it to change (this is my issue bc it would be so convenient and I want a good close place to grab a bit). This being said, this is not the first time I assure you, I went in to grab a bagel at 9:35 am on a Monday. Literally not a single bagel!!! It also took someone in the back yelling at the person five times and five minutes later, who should have been helping the customers, to come tell the three other parties and myself that they had run out of bagels. Now, I love this situation(sarcasm) as all the people (remember there is four parties, all together seven of us) looked at one another and said it almost in unison, "how does a bagel shop not have bagels at 9:30?" I think the best thing about this experience is it was not my first time of this same situation. I have walked in a handful of times by 8:30 am and they have had no bagels.... you have to wonder what lunch is really like. Sarabeth's it ain't, but it'll do if you're really hungry and not very picky. Though we stopped in around brunch time, they said it was ~lunch time~ so we opted for non-breakfast dishes (both times I've been here). Their sandwiches and burgers are big but a bit on the bland side (especially the burger), and the fries were consistently saturated with oil. I like me some fat, I really do, but fries should be crispier and not sad and soggy. It's conveniently located, but unfortunately, that's about all that it's going for it. My two star rating is ONLY for the mister bagel side of Bernie's; I have not eaten at the restaurant side enough to give an informed review of that side of the establishment. The Mister Bagel side of Bernie's Foreside has great food. I've never been disappointed with the bagels and breakfast sandwiches I've ordered from them. Unfortunately, nothing else is good. First, their customer service is lacking. I admit, I am a strange eater and order sandwiches that are not on the board (toasted bagel with butter, egg whites, spinach and tomato) but I don't think glaring at me when I'm ordering is appropriate. I always get unpleasant vibes when I'm interacting with their staff. It's not fun. Second, their food always seems to run out. I've left so many times without my sandwich because they are out of bagels or veggies. I've also seen handwritten signs on the door that said they closed early because they ran out of bagels- one time it was before 1pm, a few other times it was before noon. One time it was before 11am!!! It seemed like no matter how early I woke up I could never make it (I work nights and can't really get up and drive to Falmouth before 10am). This is quite frustrating to me since their hours say they are open until 2. Either change your hours or make enough bagels to last until your posted closing time. Lastly, the parking is terrible. If you find a spot in the front of the store you often have to maneuver around other drivers that aren't paying attention. There have even been times when the front and side parking spots are all taken and I've decided to leave and eat elsewhere. Overall, this place makes my favorite personalized breakfast sandwich, but the experience makes me go elsewhere. I stopped going here for bagels in the fall of 2014 and don't plan to return. Worst bagel I've ever had in my life - and I've had many a bagel and thought long and hard about each one. I've had grocery store bagels better than this. I've had bagels that were forgotten in the freezer for 3 years that were better than this. I had a French toast bagel that literally had less flavor than a shoebox let alone a plain bagel. Came in for a quick brunch with the family. I had the Irish Bennie, which was great. I'd come back just for that. The potatoes that came with it were surprisingly delicious. My son got the chocolate chip pancakes, and he appreciated that the chips were incorporated into the batter instead of just sprinkled over the top. Sadly, my brother-in-law's french toast was pretty tasteless and looked like it was bread fried on top of an egg. Also, the service was rather questionable. We were checked on a couple times, but then not at all after we asked for our check. Wouldn't that be when you should check on someone the most? Eh. We were having our car serviced over at Morong and decided to grab a quick bite to eat in the area. Bernie's is a small restaurant with a Mister Bagel attached to it, we were going to grab a couple of reubens to-go but the lady at the counter told us that they shut off their frialator... it was like 2pm. We decided to opt for bagel breakfast sandwiches instead on the Mister Bagel side, because who wants to pay the same amount of money for a sandwich with no side? I ordered the egg & cheese with spinach and tomato, the girl at the counter took our order and then explained that the kitchen told her that I could not order spinach and tomato because it was all put away. I ended up leaving with just an egg & cheese breakfast sandwich and a bad taste in my mouth, I will never go back there again. I was in Falmouth at lunch today & stopped at Bernie's. I would not be in a rush to eat in as the atmosphere is quite blah, depressing & basic but take-out was yummy. I got the Quinoa Wrap, which I asked to be made into a salad. It's served warm with wilted spinach, feta, black beans & avocado. The only odd part was that I was asked if I wanted cole slaw or potato chips. I opted for chips, when I got back to work & opened the container she had just dropped a bunch of chips on top of the warm salad making the chips soggy. Chips are an unnecessary component of this salad & should be left off completely. The server behind the counter was not lovely, nor was the hostess when I walked into the Bernie's side asking how to order. She was not friendly at all & just ushered me over to the "Mister Bagel" section to order take out. read more

Absolutely the WORST place to eat in Falmouth and Southern Maine. Their prices are SO expensive for such poor quality food and HORRIBLE execution. They use the cheapest food and charge the highest prices. And don't believe the menu board- what they have posted is NOT what you will get, especially if you do take out. Go to McDonald's across the street- at least you can get a better breakfast than for under $5 than what they will slop on a plate for $20. I only wish they had less than one star. read more

This place makes THE BEST homemade corned beef hash. Corned beef hash is a breakfast staple for me and I've tried it at many different restaurants in the Portland area. 3/4 of the time I'm served Mary Kitchen, but not here. Becky's was my top pick for the longest time, but after trying Bernie's for the other day, I'm completely sold. Good portions is another plus here. Under my toast was more delicious hash. Some of the best diner coffee I've had! Great prices. Awesome servers. Always clean and spots available for small groups or singles. Highly recommend the tuna salad as a melt (tried the chicken once and it wasn't so great). My grandmother and her cousin are regulars, love the way they are treated there! Bernie's is a go to for us. With a husband who doesn't stray far from the classics, and a father who is the same, we like traditional meals for breakfast and brunch when looking for a group spot. It can be very busy in there, which can make a wait for a seat long, but the staff is friendly and attentive. They are consistent, and we very rarely have a poor meal there. After many places who couldn't thoroughly cook an egg for a benedict, it was great to find a place that could. They don't always have over easy down, but generally they are well priced, and have good food. read more

As of now, I have only stopped at the Mister Bagel side, and always to grab something quick on my way to work. I love their plain, blueberry, asiago, and everything bagels. They're always toasted just right - never burnt or not toasted enough. The only cream cheese I've had is the plain, and my only "complaint" is the bagel is always a little too loaded with cream cheese - I end up scraping some off before I eat it. I'm a sucker for BLT's my all time favorite sandwich. Today I had a Chicken BLT, it's now my new favorite, it's absolutely the best BLT (with or without the chicken) I've had in a 25 mile radius. My first try at Bernie's in a while. The place was packed on a Saturday, but the service was quick and the meal pace was fine. The menu has much standard breakfast fare and several specials. I ordered the Irish Bennie, which came with poached eggs, hollandaise, and corned beef on a muffin. It was well prepared. The eggs were perfect, and the sauce was light and lemony. The hash could have used a sear to crust it a bit. The side of bacon was excellent, with three perfectly cooked slices. Service good, food good, not rock star. I was looking for the Falmouth Mister Bagel but apparently Bernie's Foreside and Mister Bagel are conjoined. I just wanted a bagel sandwich to go. An employee was at the counter when I walked in and was ready to place my order but she didn't even acknowledge me and then left. I heard her yapping in the kitchen. How rude. Someone else finally came over and took my order. While waiting for my sandwich, I observed employees just hanging out and heard complaining about annoyances in their lives, which no one cares to overhear. There's a small restaurant (Bernie's) on the other side with servers. The food was fine but the employees could be much friendlier. Two people came in after me and got a to go lunch they ordered while my bagel just sat there. I'd go elsewhere if I were looking for good customer service! read more

I work in the area and I have checked out almost all of the local places. I had eaten here many times when it was Mr. Bagel, but had not been there since. It caught my attention because they offered burritos and I love burritos. I have been searching for a really good one in the Portland area for a while. (Tu Casa is the closest I have come.) I ordered the Pork burrito on a wheat wrap. It was a pretty big burrito. It was stuffed full of a lot of delicious ingredients and was pretty decent. However the reason for the low rating is the hot sauce. I like some spice with my burrito. When I asked for some they gave me Franks Red Hot! I was shocked. I have nothing against Franks. I use it all the time to make Buffalo wings. But it is a Buffalo sauce! Buffalo sauce does not go on burritos. I would have given this place a better rating if they gave me almost any other hot sauce. If you go here bring your own tapatio. I will not go back until I am assured that they carry a decent hot sauce for their burritos. read more

I'm shocked by the other reviews of this place. I'd been out of the state for a while, and when I came back, my friends were all a-buzz about Bernie's. I went twice in one week, and I had a great experience both times. Delicious, homemade corned beef. Plump, locally sourced sausage links. Raspberry pie a la mode... so good I almost ordered a second slice. Had the same waitress both times. She was that classic diner waitress. You know the type: seems overworked but has a heart of gold. The decor inside is unique and fascinating I was tempted to steal half of the artwork on the walls. Really cool old pictures of Portland and neat charts and coastal maps of my lovely state. Point is, I was very pleased with Bernie's. A welcome addition to the smattering of Cumberland county breakfast spots north of Portland. read more

What a disappointment. The only breakfast joint in Falmouth and I suppose the only reason it thrives is because there's no competition. Service is awful. The two on staff servers just kept walking by as a line of 8 people formed. No one was acknowledged.... Finally I had to ask if it's seat yourself. The reply. "Yeah" ... So I sat myself. I waited 10 minutes before being greeted by a server and asking if I'd like a coffee. And let me add that my server was less then pleasant. I ordered a western omelet with home fries and toast. In recently and had their Irish Benny. It was EXCELLENT! Loaded with tender corned beef, the eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise was creamy with a bit of tang, just the way I like it. Food arrived swiftly and piping hot. The muffin could have been toasted a wee bit more. Our waitress was pleasant. My husband had a cheddar omelet which he wasn't impressed with, said it was dry. It is seat yourself which is simple enough, but my boyfriend and I waited there for 5 minutes because none of the staff pointed out that there were empty tables in the back just out of eyesight. Once we got our menus, we tried to order. They were out of everything we wanted. They didn't even have chicken fingers. I ended up with an incredibly unsatisfying and bland breakfast burrito.
