How disappointing! This place never seems to have their act together. We've gone in three times - perhaps we keep returning because it's easy to get in and out of (unlike diners in Portland) and inexpensive. Every time, though, I'm reminded why I hate the place. I'm a vegetarian, but never ask that my food is cooked separately, without chicken broth, etc...when I go out to eat, I just deal. But, I don't order meat - obviously. Every time we've gone there, there's meat in my food. Twice it was all through my home fries, and I figured that maybe that's their thing. The second time, though, it was also in my eggs...but I just picked around it. This last time, I got my omelet and it was literally stuffed with meat. I sent it back, the waitress apologized, and came back with a new one pretty fast. Of course, this time, they forgot the cheese - making it a boring, dry, omelet...but, my husband was already well into his food and I didn't want to fuss. Even after that fiasco, I still was picking bits of meat out of my food. They also got my husbands order wrong, brought us the wrong check, and didn't refill our coffees. The service is unprofessional and never welcoming. They could have a really good thing going for themselves if they just got it together...but, I don't think that's in the cards, and we won't be back to try! read more

Went there for lunch today, we were four at a table. The food was good, but the gypsy waitress has a lot to learn. I swear she hates her job. She was short with all of us, maybe because we didn't comment her on her halloween outfit.....Who knows. She was not a happy person, n didn't help us with the specials. We will not go there again. Hope she changes her attitude. She certainly didn't not deserse a tip. We should have left her a penny or two....She sure spoiled our lunch. read more

I go here with my husband and daughter (sometimes even just my daughter) for breakfast almost every week. We love it! For what is is- diner style breakfast food- it's delicious. We always have great service, and have never had any problems with our meals. We usually get the standard eggs,bacon,home fries, toast and pancakes. They have these giant english muffins that are soft and perfect for scooping up eggs with! As much as I am a diehard Caiola's and Bintliff's brunch fan, I also have a soft spot for little breakfast joints. I've never had lunch or dinner at Bernie's so I can't speak for those menus. read more

Good, greasy diner food - the fries were fresh and nicely caramelized. Service was helpful and friendly. Decent, especially for the price.

We had a big group that stopped in on Sunday after hockey practice and we had the best breakfast experience. Dealing with such a large group and bunch of kids is not easy but they provided excellent service. Thank you again Bernie's. We will definitely be back. read more

The waitress/counter help was the nastiest woman. She had no customer service/people skills. She snapped at me while I was ordering takeout and had the most unpleasant look on her face during the entire encounter. She is a woman in her 50s with blonde hair. I have worked in customer service and no matter how bad a day you are having, you do not treat your customers with disrespect. My recommendation is she be fired for her rude, disrespectful and overall nasty attitude. She needs some etiquette classes and should look for solo work where she does not interact with people. Bottom line, this was the rudest person I have come across and she needs to rethink her actions. Never going back. Zero stars due to the horrible attitude. read more

The star rating is for the mister bagel side. This place should be renamed Mister no bagel. They honestly never have bagels, I'll go in there at as early as 9 sometimes and they are out of bagels. I work in Falmouth and eat out for lunch very often. I loved this place when it was just a Mr. Bagel. When the place became Bernies I noticed a big difference, and not in a good way. There were several bad experiences that made me decide that I (as well as two of my co-workers) will not return. Once, I sat watching as my food sat prepared on the kitchen counter and no one bothered to bring it over to me - I had to ask for it. Once, I had to leave because no one noticed that I was sitting at the counter waiting to order and I only get 30 mintues for a break, I wasted 10 sitting there being ignored. I went someplace else that day. Two seperate times (back to back) my co -worker found hair in her food. AND every single time any of us go in there the owner (Adam) is sitting there loudly conducting buisness on his cell phone, or shouting out commands and orders to employees across the diner. He's usually occupying one of the tables and twice I wanted to eat my food at a table but could not because all of the tables were occupied and he didn't even think to offer a seat to any of the customers who were ordering. Last week he had a cold and was sitting at one of the tables right next to mine he was doing that thing when you suck snot to the back of your throat and swallow it...(snorting?) which was loud and disgusting. So, I took my food and finished eating in the car. We, today, have come to the conclusion that it's just not worth it to eat there. This has to be undoubtedly the biggest joke of a restaurant that I have ever encountered. From the time we entered this place, until the time we left, it was a dining nightmare. Frankly, we should have left when we were met at the door by a surly waitress who rudely told us they were not serving people at their outside tables, when I had pointed at an open inside table that happened to be in the direction of their outdoor area (she just assumed this, even though I never even said a word to her). Red flag number 2 should have been our waitress, who took FOREVER to get to our table, apologizing that they were "running a bit behind" on the orders. We got our coffees and waters ... and then nothing. 15--20 minutes later, the waitress finally returned to take our orders. Our coffee cups were left unfilled. Fully 40 minutes later, we got our order of pancakes, bacon, a fruit cup, and toast. The fruit cup was an over priced largely cut up apple. I specifically requested my toast be unbuttered (repeated it twice) and it came out buttered ... and which I didn't eat. People who were seated quite a bit of time after us received their orders before ours. I could tell that there were a lot of customers who were seriously irritated by the service. This place is obviously understaffed by incompetent wait staff and cooks. Incidentally, we kept hearing the waitresses telling other customers they had run out of this or that, and apologizing for various errors. Before this whole ordeal was over, we had spent over 1-1/2 hours getting breakfast! I wouldn't return to this place if they gave their food away! read more

We went there for lunch and we will never go again!! The salad greens were brown , the avocado was just dumped on top and most of it was rotten. We ordered on one side and went in and sat as we had done with the previous owner a few years ago. The waitress asked us if we had ordered and we said yes. The man brought it to us in a to go package and we said we didn't ask for it to be to go. He rolled his eyes, which is definitely wrong, and said do you want me to put it in a plate. We said yes please. He then walked around to the other side and said that we were really pissed off, that if which we did not. Then, before we got our meal, the waitress with the large glasses and very short jean shorts (totally inappropriate), came over and scolded us like we were 2 kids and said next time you have to order from this side if you want to sit. We stopped here on our way out of town this morning. Arrived at 7:30 and many tables were empty. We seated ourselves and 15 min later a waitress finally brought menus and took out drink order. By 8am we received our drinks. She then left our table as a customer approached her who indicated he had been waiting a long time to get his check. Fast forward another 10 min after she and another waitress discussed birthday plans/celebrations behind the counter and she returned to take out order. Our food arrived to our table at 8:45. 1hr 15 min after we first sat down. Two out of four dishes were cold , however, our waitress never checked in with us to see how our meals were nor did she ask if we wanted refills of our empty cups. Our experience with Bernies and our waitress Nicole was disappointing and the wait time was unacceptable. She was clearly overwhelmed, disorganized, or not concerned about her customers. (july 20, 2015) we had a terrible breakfast experience at this place. our waitress was monosyllabic and very unfriendly/unhelpful. what's worse, she incorrectly rung up my 3-item omelete, overcharging me by a few dollars. she had to ask another waitress to help her fix the problem, and when she brought the only partially corrected bill back to me, she didn't even apologize. re the food: unremarkable. the overpriced ($4.99) small fruit bowl contained some obviously unripe fruit (cantelope and honeydew). i can't believe we spent just under $30 (pre-tip) on breakfast there (2 omelettes, 1 coffee, 1 fruit bowl). next time we're in the area, we will drive a few miles into portland, where the quality and variety of breakfast choices are far superior to bernie's foreside. why anyone would even think of eating here is beyond us, unless of course they like mediocre breakfast food and high prices. read more

This morning was the first time I went to Bernie's and will likely be my last. There was a 'seat yourself' sign out so my son and I took the only seats open - a booth. No one acknowledged us at all. There seemed to be a few waitresses at other stations, but couldn't pick one out for ours. Then I realized that a woman standing at the table behind ours must have been the waitress. She had on a large wrapped scarf and boots and I thought she was a member of the party behind us. She wasn't saying anything, wasn't interacting, and really looked unhappy - I thought she was just their sullen teenager. We waited about ten minutes and were just about to leave when a waitress with a pot of coffee came to the table across from us and finally seemed to notice us and smiled and said "Brianna" would be right with us. She must have said something to her, because a few minutes later she did come to the table. But she didn't look at us, didn't welcome us, introduce herself, didn't say a word, just started spraying the table with cleaner (the table looked clean to us, as if this had already been done), and started wiping it. Then, again without any interaction with us said 'what do you want to drink?' I was shocked by her rude tone, and didn't answer for a minute because her attitude was so surprising for a waitress. I said 'just water' and she snorted and rolled her eyes. My son (he's 19 and even he was amazed) also said water, and she finished the wiping and left the table. Again, no 'I'll be right back,' no menus, nothing but attitude. We left then so I can't say anything about the food. I tried to call to let the owner know, but was told he wasn't there. I don't usually complain, people are people, but she was so over the top rude and unprofessional, and had an attitude I have NEVER seen in someone who is supposed to be the public face of an establishment that serves meals to people, that I think the owners need to be made aware of it.
