Really loved the atmosphere of this place! Former coffee shop and specialty tea shop barista here! I stopped in to Berry to Bean after a Yelp event and really enjoyed the vibe of the place. It was cozy but sleek, I loved all of the plants at the coffee bar, the menu wall was really cool, and the collage poster at the back of the shop definitely had stories to be told. The café as a whole was clean and quiet, and the kind barista was relatively quick with our order. We ordered a Blue Lagoon Smoothie and an Iced Matcha Latte with Hazelnut. The Blue Lagoon was a blend of blueberries, raspberries, and oranges, but it tasted more orangey than anything. I couldn't really taste the blueberries or raspberries all too well, but the sweetness of them prevented the drink from being too acidic in flavor from all of the orange. For the Matcha Latte, it was also difficult to clearly taste the flavors, let alone the matcha at all. It was on the more bitter side, but it was a smooth drink at the very least. While the establishment and service get 5 stars, the drinks only get 3. It's definitely one of those places where I wish the drinks lived up to the atmosphere so I'd be more inclined to visit again, but I'd honestly be alright skipping over another visit to this café. read more

This was honestly one of the worst coffee shop experiences I've ever had. I left feeling completely humiliated and disrespected. While I was waiting for my drink I heard the girls behind the counter laughing and whispering. When my drink was ready one of them set it on the counter turned around and immediately started laughing again. Do you know how that makes someone feel? To be a paying customer and have employees treat you like you're a joke? It was so bad that I even questioned whether I should drink what I was given. Everyone deserves to be treated with basic respect especially in a place of business. On their monthly specials, they had "Earl Brew Strawberry" and I love tea, but hate coffee. The entire reason I came here was because I found their instagram and they had interesting tea drinks. Apparently when they said "brew" they meant cold brew coffee, not brewing tea. This was not mentioned in the description. It was horrible. So bitter. If you are going to add a divisive ingredient like cold brew, tell people! I didn't ask because I obviously thought it was only tea, there was nothing that made me even suspect they would add coffee. And all my friends who like coffee also said that sounds like a gross combination. They remade it for me with just tea but it was still bad. Decided to check out a new coffee shop this weekend and came across Berry to Bean. The shop itself was a little unassuming although they did have ample parking. Inside the shop was well decorated and spacious. They had a large menu posted as well as a delicious pastry counter. I decided to keep it simple and get a sugar free hazelnut latte along with a blueberry lemon pop tart. Both items were wonderful! love this place! Definitely NOT Starbucks, which I like. If you want "fast food" coffee service, this place is not for you. Each drink is personally made for you by people that want to give you the best experience possible. The staff is super friendly and gets to know their regulars. Smoothies and juices are custom made to order. They may take a minute to come out but when they do you know it was made with love and just for you. I have personally seen how hard these baristas work to get through all their orders while giving each person the attention they deserve. Obviously I am a regular and have seen the "fast food" coffee customers come through with bad attitudes and very little patience expecting there items to be ready the moment they pay. If you want a silky smooth latte, a freshly made smoothie or juice, or one of their creative seasonal drinks in a calming relaxing atmosphere, then Berry to Bean is for you. Very impressed with this little Alamo Heights Coffee place. Although, Berry to Bean Coffee House is ideal for coffee drinkers, it also has an impressive tea selection. It also has a variety of interesting latte beverages. I did make a mental note to come back and try some of their other drinks, but on this occasion I had their lemon and honey green tea. The parking space is small so parking is limited, but there's an IHOP and a Chipotle next door and people usually park there if needed. I stopped by Berry to Bean with my mom a few weeks ago because she was craving something sweet and - she's vegan - loves their vegan muffins and snacks. I didn't want anything sweet, but they also offers juices and coffees, and I love both. I picked a juice (24 Karrot - carrot, orange, and strawberry), which I could drink everyday. It wasn't too busy when I walked in but it took a long time to receive my order of an iced latte & strawberry pastry. The Iced Latte was decent but nothing memorable (2.5/5). The 100% vegan strawberry pastry was very inconsistent. Parts of the crust were hard and other areas of the crust were mush like part of it was overcooked & undercooked. I'd come here again! This is a small coffee/smoothie shop right next to the H&R Block. It looks like a hike in a wall type of place. Small parking lot, but plenty of drink selections. I have worked within walking distance of Berry to Bean for almost two years & I cannot believe today was my first time stopping in. The ambience of this place is wonderful. It's cozy, quiet, and perfect to pop in and get some work done or catch up with someone over a cup of [insert your beverage choice.] I really appreciated the atmosphere here and will happily sit down with a cup of coffee on my next visit. For today's order, I grabbed a Thai iced coffee and a chocolate croissant. In all honesty, I did not enjoy the coffee at all. It was extremely bitter and I simply couldn't force it down. This was extremely disappointing but based on other positive reviews of their coffee, I am not counting them out yet. I also grabbed a chocolate croissant (1 of 4 pastries left around 2pm) and thoroughly enjoyed this. It was warmed to perfection, soft, flakey & delicious. I look forward to trying other pastries during future visits and hope to swing by earlier in the day to have more options to choose from. I plan on updating this review on my next visit when I'm able to try a different coffee. I'm certainly hoping this was either poor execution on the baristas end or just a one-off item to stay away from (let's be honest, all places have something they can improve). read more

Staff was so rude. I took my friend here to try it and one of the girls commented on my friends drink calling it "disgusting", she said it loudly to her coworker and then again to my friends face when handing her the drink. I've never experienced service like this, I work as a waitress and my friend is a chef we would never in a million years treat a customer this way. read more

Today I saw an instagram post for Turmeric Tuesday, showcasing their turmeric latte and I NEEDED to try it. So after traffic died down I made my way and caught Celene on her way out for the day. The latte was a beautiful goldenrod color and had a perfect amount of warmth and spice. They recommended a smoothie that was not on the list, matcha mango smoothie. As I was paying for my order, they offered me a vegan pastry. I'm not one to usually try vegan foods but I caved in because the pastry looked delicious. The pastry was absolutely delicious, I'm glad I tried it. They have private parking and plenty of seating space inside their modern, minimalist designed interior. They have two menus - one on a small chalkboard easel that is a condensed version of the menu, and the other on the wall to the left as soon as you walk in. I got here around 7:45 AM on a Saturday morning and the only person there was the barista. I asked if their was espresso in the turmeric latte and he said no, but that he could add it since some other people do, but that he personally wouldn't recommend doing that. I trust the man and ordered a hot cafe latte instead. He made it to order immediately since nobody else was there, and my gosh that was a smooth latte. Good size, good flavor, good dang latte.
