I don't see how you can call yourself a Spanish Tapas restaurant when you also serve Cuban, Mexican, and American cuisine. The restaurant inside is very nice with plenty of space between the tables. All our entrées were very salty. My wife ordered a Cuban sandwich, which was not pressed, and they added coleslaw to it. (This is a first for me). I ordered the chicken paella and noticed that two pieces of the chicken did not taste right. The waitress was nice and noticed that none of us had finished our main courses when we were ready to leave. I had a funny feeling when we first walked in that a hamburger platter had been taken to a table, and it was not for a kid. Went for dinner tonight after going to the lantern festival nearby. We were able to get a table right away although they were pretty busy at almost 9. My friend and I shared tapas and sides. The Queso Frito were great: delicious fried goat cheese! Too bad there were only four of them. The Maduro had a tiny kick and lots of flavour. The side of Risotto was generous and creamy, but didn't taste like anything. The spinach was nicely garlicky but not overly so. We were pretty full but the desserts were too tempting to pass up. We were looking for some good food in Staten island and who can resist a good Paella. We came during brunch hours which normally does not have it on the menu but the staff were willing to prep it up for us! One order was more than enough for just us two and there was a lot leftover afterwards as well. The seafood came with such huge variety and everything was food. The rice was creamy and was so fragrant. There was definitely more seafood than rice! One thing I could have skipped on was the lobster which was tough and very small and didn't have that much flavor. But the seafood itself was so good. Came during christmas month so it was all decked out in holiday decorations. It was not overwhelming at all. Very simple yet so pretty! Loved their grasshopper drink ! Flavorful seafood spot! My friends and I went here after our 5 boro bike tour as the Staten Island Ferry is right next to this place. We wanted a quick bite to satisfy our hungry before heading back in the city. The octopus had a grilled taste and was chewy. I've had had ceviche before and it was amazing. I love the fresh seafood flavor and wonton chips are my favorite. The paella was also fantastic, had so a variety seafood in there. Because I was so thirsty from the race, I always needed to ask the servers for more water. However, I can't necessarily say the server was not attentive. The food is just subpar it's either too spicy or lacks tremendous flavor which is ironic for it to be a "Spanish " restaurant. Also some of the food paired together (flavors or ingredients) don't go well together making the dish "weird " on the palette. The service here is not good AT ALL. This is the second time that I have visited and happened to get the same waitress LAUREN she is one of the worse employees here. She never asked if we needed anything my husband had to ask the busboy to bring him another soda i literally was sitting with an empty cup trying to eat HOT wings with nothing to drink... everything I needed I had to grab a busboy attention. She constantly walked by us at least 7 times never asked if we needed anything . She finally came by and I asked her for some water and a soda .... she never came back with it I had to go and yet it myself.. she came to buss the table directly next to use(for what because there was definitely enough busboys working) and still didn't acknowledge us.. I was so annoyed because where I was seated there was a mirror and I could see her eating being the counter and doing everything else except attending to us. I was so turned off and disgusted I had to get up and go to the counter and ask another waiter for my check . I know these places don't care about bad reviews but something has to give because going out to eat isn't cheap these days. Wow, my Mom and I really enjoyed ourselves at Beso on a Saturday night. Although it wasn't our originally intended destination, we were seated quickly and service was extremely attentive. I wish that they timed our food and drinks better. Maybe they were overwhelmed because they are right by the St. George theatre and there was a comedy show scheduled for 8pm. It was an early week impromptu event. European family visited our beautiful New York who took the tourist skyline view by taking the ferry to Staten Island. Decided to have an early linner close to the ferry terminal. I decided to reserve Beso walking distance from the ferry. We were graciously received and seated with the company of extended family. We ordered an array of tapas and dishes to fulfill our hunger after a long day sightseeing. It was devoured with gusto and left us satisfied. Not realizing, even though it was an early week event, the restaurant was full of patrons. The atmosphere was inviting, the prices were fair. While there were some parts of the meal that were good, I feel there could have been some improvements to their operations. For starters, having two separate menu's is very confusing. Which is for tapas? What does the tapas include? Why does the second menu have similar dishes, and a few others that's not on the tapas menu? I'd recommend either explaining to first time diners how it all works (at the start), or better yet, create one single menu, with either icons or a separate section, that indicates what's NOT part of the tapas pre-fix deal. The drinks were also incredibly sweet. Possibly too sweet to consume. Also, the service was incredibly slow. Surprising, considering it was a Monday night and the restaurant wasn't even all that packed. After we put in our order, and coming by for one check-in, the server never really came by again. I eventually asked her for the check, after visiting the restroom, because it was faster that way. So if you're in a rush for dinner, give yourself LOADS of time for eating a meal here. Food wise, let me start with dessert. The flan was too dense, and we didn't even finish eating it. The tres leches cake wasn't that great either, and we only ate parts of the dessert. I'd say skip dessert, or don't order either of those and hope that the other options might be better. Honestly, the rest of the dishes were just alright. The best part of my whole meal was the seafood that was in the paella, which I did finish eating. Beso has to be one of my favorite restaurants. They are continuously consistent with the most flavorful and delicious menu. Not to mention, everyone there is so kind and gives amazing service, and you can never go wrong with a pitcher of sangria. They also have a great happy hour. Beso means kiss in Spanish and this Latin restaurant did feel like a kiss. After checking the 9/11 Memorial in Staten Island, I was looking for a dinner spot within walking distance. That's when I came across Beso. Though the restaurant was busy, I was able to get a table in the bar area. Beso has some old school charm with the dim lighting and sophistication. It's a tapas restaurant which is perfect for someone like me who's all about the variety. And the food delivers! I loved every dish I ordered. They start you off with some complimentary bread and oil. Always a nice touch though this was my least favorite part of the meal. From there, I went with a side of risotto because risotto is always a good idea. Just the right level of creaminess and flavor. They also have some unique dishes that really stood out to me. There was a potato stuffed with shredded chicken and a delectable sauce. And some bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp which were amazing too. Service was standard. Where we are from, they charge an additional fee for dining in those igloo type arrangements. A family of five dined for under $200 and in NYC. Immediately when you walk in there's the smell of garlic, oil, rice cooking. This place has flair, décor, and great food to tie it together, but unfortunately in some areas it just fell a little short. I want to start with the sangria, as it is, just where the meal began. The sangria was bold, flavorful, just smooth and light, very good sangria that I don't believe you would find in most places. We should have ordered tapas, but we just weren't in the mood for appetizers so we went straight for the entrees. That being said, the entrees took quite a little bit to come out, but staff were sure to keep attending to us and apologizing for the wait. While the food was hot, there was a different issue with the entrees. My wife's paella was huge for her alone, and my churrasco steak was very petit. Luckily, we were able to broker a deal where she would get some tomato salad and I would get about a third of paella plus all of the mussels (there were clams, but they had not meat, most likely cooked out). Either way, without rice the meal comes off very small for someone who may not have someone they can get paella from, as the rice and beans on the side was very small and lackluster in taste. This place is so close, so close to being a great spot, just need to revisit some of the portions and tweak recipes OR encourage guests to order tapas with deals or whatever the case may be. Delicious. One word easily sums it up but I'll go indulge you with details. There was a bit of a wait as even outside you can smell goodness. Oh and the decor is hip and romantic. The waitress was so nice- making recommendations with our preferences. She suggested we try a few tapas instead of big plates. We had the quesadilla with chorizo and chicken, the bistek cobrales and the Montadito de Pan Y Puerco! I couldn't get enough of the pan y puerco- super savory and soft. Very comforting. The chicken and chorizo quesadilla were GOOD. My companion who is a frequent quesdailla order-ER- said it was the best they had ever had. I was a bit overwhelmed by the blue cheese on the bistek, but grew to like the taste. Oh, and the SANGRIA. Strong, I hear. I've been a regular at Beso for YEARS, use to be my favorite neighborhood spot, especially for lunch. I went a couple of days ago for lunch. Had the wings w/ mango sauce and a traditional margarita.... to my surprise both were absolutely HORRIBLE, which was even more disappointing because the prices have gone up like crazy on the entire menu since I've been to Beso last prior to their move to this location. You're easily paying $20 plus dollars for lunch and much more for dinner. I splurged on the mango wings, they tasted like old reheated chicken with sauce thrown on them. Btw the mango sauce was as bad as it looked and the Traditional Margarita tasted like nothing but sour mix. I really miss the old Beso, the new one isn't as good of an experience as it looks. I will not be returning. I'm giving 2 stars in spite of the awful food because the space is beautiful and the waiter was very sweet. read more

I came to Beso with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised by a wonderful meal! I was very impressed with my dinner here and would certainly comeback if I was in the St George area again. We ordered 4 tapas to share between 2 people and were full by the end of our meal. Tapas prices were very reasonable at under $10 per dish, especially considering the quality of the food. We had: Flautas $8.50 (roasted exotic mushrooms, cobrales cheese, rolled in herb tortilla, fried and served with chipotle infused mayo). This is a good option for vegetarians and although it wasn't the best dish we had, it was a little on the heavier side which was a good balance to the lighter seafood dishes. Ajillo $9.95 (shrimp sautéed with golden sherry wine, minced garlic, lemon juice and spanish smoked paprika). This was amazing, definitely order it. Clams $9.95 (exotic little neck clams slowly simmered in garlic, spanish wine and lobster broth) I was expecting the lobster broth to be a little more flavorful but this dish was still good. I am not sure I would order it again just because everything else I had was outstanding and the clam dish was just good. Seafood Risotto $8.00 (bomba saffron rice with manchego cheese, shrimp, scallops, calamari and green peas). This is on the menu as a side not a tapas and was recommended by our waiter.
