The week before I was to fly out for Christmas holidays, the electrical system in my Pops' house surged + blew out the transformer on the board behind the control board on the 12yr old Kenmore double oven. In fact, the entire electrical system/panel for the house had to be replaced (blew out other stuff too), but that's another story. First I called a Sears repair fellow to come out two days before Christmas - who showed up for less than 5 minutes, improperly diagnosed the issue (said it was the control board), and said that the part (control board) was no longer available - which if it was a bad control board, that would've been true as that part is no longer being manufactured. I was beyond stressed, thinking I'd have to replace the entire unit ($3000+!), I spent days scouring Home Depot, Lowes, and the internet - trying to find a replacement while in town for the holidays. Then, just a couple days before I was scheduled to fly back home, I remembered about putting a request for help out on yelp, so I did that + almost instantly Serhii responded. We exchanged a few messages + he assured me - "don't worry Kate, everything will work out." I could see his profile was new + he didn't have any reviews, but the fact that he was already invested in helping me, having not even met me or seen the oven in person - was a major positive sign. I could feel that he was a good, solid person. He came over asap, PROPERLY diagnosed the issue, to the precise component on the board BEHIND the control board that had burned up in the electrical surge + ordered the appropriate part. Two days later, he + Vlad, his assistant, came back + violà - our oven was working within 30 minutes, no problem. Simply fantastic. Serhii will be my go-to Appliance Repair SuperHero from now on.

Knowledgeable and Trustworthy!…read more I have a 15+ year old refrigerator that neither the refrigerator or freezer were working. Akai inspected the entire unit and indicated the issue was the defroster in the freezer wasn't working and needed to be replaced. He quoted me what I thought was a very fair price but before I could say "Shut up and take my money!" he added that when he had unplugged the unit & plugged it back in, when starting up again the compressor sounded a bit suspicious. Thus he indicated I could go ahead and pay him to install a new defroster in the freezer, but it is only a matter of time before the compressor craps out and then replacing it would be over $1,000 and not worth it. So get this....he proposes that I defrost it the old school way by unplugging it, opening both the freezer & fridge doors, placing towels in front of the unit, and allowing all of the ice to melt and then just mop up all the water with towels and my wet vac and that would solve the problem for now. And in a few months when the issue occurs again I can just repeat the old school defrosting method until the compressor finally goes kaput, and then get a brand new refrigerator. Sure enough, I proceeded to do exactly what he recommended and lo and behold the fridge & freezer started working properly again. And I am all too happy to repeat every few months to squeeze every last bit of life from this old fridge until I have to get a new one. Akai could have very easily kept quiet about the compressor sounding sketchy and that it could fail in 3 weeks, 3 months, or 3 years and gotten a nice service order for replacing the defroster since he had already devoted the valuable time & effort to come to my house. However, he instead chose to be completely honest and forthcoming which is not as common as it should be and is very appreciated. I have saved his contact info and the next time I have any issues with any appliances he will be the technician I call. Knowledge and experience is great and there are a lot of qualified & knowledgeable appliance repair companies out there. However, also possessing honesty and integrity is why I strongly recommend Akai for any appliance repair issues.
