Anyone claiming to be the "best" at anything, either has a lot of chutzpah or they really ARE the best. I can't say either way but I will say that we tried them for delivery and they scored top honors from the two of us. From what we've found in the area for Chinese chow, they were the best! We ordered lemon chicken, tofu with mixed vegetables and BBQ pork fried rice and delivery was met on time, bagged with all the fixin's for an affordable $24. Both of us sported smiles as we tried each entree with hesitation, expecting a less-than-delicious experience. But they rocked it. We can say, without doubt, that in our opinion Best China Kitchen takes the prize! And we felt this way even before we crushed the life out of three fortune cookies to reveal the awesome good news inside (see photo). After all these years after my first visit, there is nothing seriously negative that would keep me away, except that it would be nice if the decor were updated but it looks like they maintain and clean the inside as well as they can. To keep flies and other insects out, it would also be great if they keep the doors closed, just one of my pet peeves. Possibly my favorite order from the menu is still the delicious tofu with vegetables in light brown gravy and it comes with a side of steamed or fried rice or chow mein, but I recommend getting the chow mein and then mix that into the tofu dish and it is awesome. The line can get long at times and result in long waits, but I can't really blame them for that. This is the only Chinese fast food place I know that actually serves *authentic* Asian flavors! Their Chow Fun, spare ribs, mixed shrimp and vegetables, teriyaki chicken, all of them are superb! But what you see on the store front isn't all, they have a menu you can order from that contains a vast array of foods; I've ordered a few of their menu dishes, and I wasn't disappointed at all! Secondly, they give very *generous* portions, unlike any other Chinese fast food place I've been to. I'm the kind of person who responds to generosity with generosity, so I leave a tip for them, despite them being a fast food. Very honest people, too. A girl had accidentally left her wallet there; she was lamenting to her dad how she might have lost all her personal info, credit cards, license, etc. What this store did was hold on to it and waited until somebody came back to claim for it. How do I know all this? I was witness to this girl's father coming back to thank them because her daughter was so happy and relieved that the wallet was all intact, nothing missing, totally untampered. I saw the father give them a "tip" that made them exclaim, but I don't know exactly how much he gave them. I found Best China on the way home from swim practice in 2003, and have been a loyal, loyal customer ever since. This little mom & pop Chinese takeout is located on the corner of Artesia & Downey, just behind McDonalds and next door to Circle K. The owners and employees have ALWAYS been friendly, and they greet you with a smile each time. It's not the nicest or prettiest looking place, but the food that comes outta their kitchen is bombski! And like I said, super adorable. They literally stuff their takeout boxes so full, sometimes it's hard to even get them to close, half time you can hear the styrofoam cracking as it strains to stay closed. It's now 2016, and I have ordered more takeout from here then from any other takeout place around. Bonus is that they deliver within 5 miles! granted that's with a $10 or more charge, but that's easy to do here! oh, and $.50 if you want to charge it, NOT that big of a deal. If you're in a rush, or don't want to call in, you can order online Why's that? Consistency, and quality of the food. The food is good, the portions are large and the prices are reasonable. However, if you're looking for a place thats fancy and top of the line, this isnt Pick up Stix or PF Changs, its Bellflower and not the fancy side. The good, the bad and the ugly: The Good: Friendly staff, great "best" Chinese fast food. I ordered spicy chicken - it was good. The Chicken Green Bean was Excellent, the Eggroll - Excellent. I don't usually like chow mein but it was also very good. I ordered out of the warming bins. I bet everything is even better if you order off the regular menu and it is made fresh for you. Huge servings. Huge clientele - thats a good sign of what a value and of large portions. Inexpensive for what you get. The Bad: Edgy neighborhood. But not a deal breaker. The Ugly: It could use an interior designer. It certainly is plain and ugly inside. But the booths are comfortable and you can always get your order to go or have it delivered. We drove out since most of the yelp reviews were awesome. But the food was pretty mediocre and overall just not worth the drive. It's in a really bad part of town and the place itself is really just old and trashed. The food itself wasn't anything to call home about, and to be honest I've had better at Panda Express... The worst part is we had saved our leftovers as they do serve you a crap ton of food. I saved them with the though of eating it for lunch at work the next day. I took it to work, and when I finally opened up the container the food had already grown mold on it. I'm not sure how this is possible unless the food itself was already old and ready to go bad. My dining partner loved his orange chicken and fried rice. Big pluses: - If you order your food to go they give you all the cutlery and sauces you would have access to if you ate in. (sweet and sour, soy and sriracha.) - they actually give you cutlery. It matters. - they are crazy cheap! A two entree combo with fried rice and chowmein was $4.99. - they have a pretty decent steam table selection. Granted, mostly meat-based, but did I mention the awesome veggie egg rolls? Decided to try out this place for the first time since Lucky Wok is closed on Sundays and the fact that I wanted something different close to home. I actually called in my order for delivery since I didn't feel like making a stop. Placing the order was ok but not perfect due to the fact that the person taking the order understood me a bit. They allowed me to take the order over the phone using my card. I tried the Combo Express with 3 items and ordered the shrimp fried rice. The shrimp fried rice was amazing yet has more shrimp than the shrimp fried rice from Lucky Wok and most other places. The Orange Chicken was addictive and is light years in taste ahead of that stuff from Panda Express. The mushroom chicken was ok but will NOT beat the stuff from Lucky Wok. The teriyaki chicken had flavorful pieces of chicken but the sauce could use a bit more sweetness. The portions were huge and beyond generous, enough to have leftovers for the next day or to feel 2-3 people. They are open everyday and right off the 91 Freeway. Excellent alternative to Lucky Wok, Zen Chinese Food and Panda Express. THEY WILL DELIVER if you order at least $10+ worth of food and live within a 5 mile radius from the restaurant! It is not perfect and won't please everyone's taste buds but it is among the best in the Long Beach area. Will be back for more. read more
