mee katang with beef = $12.75
    Trung N.

I was craving mee katang on this side of town so I found myself here. I ordered the mee katang with beef ($12.75) and a fried egg. They load the noodles up with plenty of vegetables which I greatly appreciated. The mee katang was good and exactly what I was looking for. While I do prefer a thicker gravy, this satiated my craving. Kim Sun is a quiet mom and pop shop. The menu is straightforward and the restaurant itself is cozy. Perfect for a quick and easy lunch.

My friend told me about this spot over a sesh so I decided after to satisfy my munchie craving . When I showed up I was a little confused at parking I guess u just find a spot and throw it in P. Inside it's very mom and pop ish few tables for you to dine clean and simple, good service straight to the point . I ordered the house fried rice it was bomb tasted fresh no hard rice or anything like that . I also ordered the beef kebab and it came with like a side of salad type stuff together it was the one! Tasted great and the meat was tender and juicy with the crisp from the salad paired well with a lil sriracha also . I also ordered this noodle with veggies and beef that's where they won me over tasted very authentic and flavorful they also hooked it up with a bone broth soup I never tried before super bomb the taste threw me way off as it was unexpected delicious. Definitely coming back .

Solid noodle spot. I haven't had their rice dishes. I need 85 characters to post this review

A sweet place to get comfort food. This local spot has been around for years. Even though it's new owners, it's still a great establishment with the same great taste and recipes. My favorite go-to is their Hainan chicken or beef loc lak. Ice coffee is 5/5, you just have to try it for yourself. Service is always quick and everything seems to always be cooked fresh. The ambiance is very comforting and well-maintained.

Lately been ordering take out. Large portion to eat later. Call in and just go pick it up, in and out fast service within 15 mins.

    Chewy almost inedible beef

I was hesitant to write a review, in case the food was good. I went and first off customer service was horrible. I asked for rice and beef w/ broccoli and stir fry noodles with beef. She then repeated noodle soup so I said no soup, stir fry. She said she didn't understand, understandable but she tossed the menu at me saying just point. The total was almost $36. Which was iffy to me but whatever. Fine okay, when she hands me my order I asked if there was soy sauce, she never once looked up at me and said in there. I asked for chopsticks ( seeing as how there's two people and two plates) she tossed one on the counter still not looking up and I asked for another one. She then tossed them on the counter without saying anything or looking up. When I got home there was a chicken soup on top of my two plates, so she charged me something I didn't want. The noodles WERE HORRENDOUS. I had to pull them apart by hand, they were sticky and all stuck together (picture provided after I tried pulling them apart myself) there was only one soy sauce and the beef was super chewy and hard to break down. This was a very horrible experience here.

Nothing but Cambodian goodness! Soup was great, noodles excellent, broth was clean, soothing, and tasty!

Picking up Mama Lê's favorite dish for her birthday seafood egg noodles. I got the Phnom Penh noodle soup, and chicken chop suey. Broth was perfect for this rainy weather in Cali this morning. The famous Noodle Shack was packed, so I went up the street to another small local favorite to try theirs for the first time, it did not disappoint! And for $8 a giant bowl?! That's a steal. Dad hasn't eaten much lately and hasn't enjoyed his food, so he has lost a lot of weight. He ate his whole bowl!

Went here because my son recommended it. Had the Beef Lok Lak delish! Came with a soup (don't know what kind) clear broth. Good as well.

Hai Nam Chicken w/ Bai Chai Steamed Chicken with Fried Rice

This place is such a hole in the wall. It's a small restaurant with only 8 tables so it's best to come early in the morning. Especially on weekends. I always order the Hai Nam Chichen with Bai Cha. (Steamed chicken with fried rice instead of white rice) my partner introduced me to this combo and it's a game changer! It also comes with a small side of bone marrow broth, cucumber, and a delicious garlic sauce. My partner orders the Beef Noodle Soup, it's packed with flavor! Just make sure to add lime, hoisin sauce, sriracha, and the bean sprouts. For drinks, we order the Thai iced tea and Iced coffee. 10/10. Service is good. There's always one woman handling the front so if you come here please be patient, and kind!

    Wonton soup with rice noodles
    Vanny I.

This place is like a hidden gem. It's family owned n operated. The lady at the front was very nice and attentive, she greeted us and proceeded to help us. She asked us for here or to-go (we were doing a to-go order) she handed us clean menus. We ordered: -Lot cha with beef, 5/5 (yummy, i love lot) -Beef fried rice, 5/5 (a good amount of beef) -Chicken rice porridge, 3/5 (not pictured, it was more like rice soup n less like porridge) -Wonton soup w/noodles, 5/5 (DELICIOUS, wontons (plump) n a lot of cha sur pork, shrimp, veggies n mushroom FIRE!!) -Salt and Pepper shrimp, 5/5 (crispy, salty, peppery goodness) -Beef Lok Lak, 3/5 ( my friend was raving about this cuz that's always his order, but this time it was bland, it came with sauce but that was blandish also) We will definitely come back n try other dishes n the menu.

This place is listed today as having outdoor seating. Is it still available? If it is, is it covered or heated? How many people can sit there? / June 8, 2023

Since I have eaten there I have not seen any outdoor seating. Maybe during COVID-19 they may have had it but I never saw any tables outside.

Anyone knows if they change ownership?

My friend and I shared a variety of dishes: -Student Noodle: If chow mein and pad thai had a baby, this would be that dish. Without the fish sauce, the noodles tasted like chow mein. This dish overall was good! While I would still opt for pad thai, the noodle texture was good and I enjoyed the flavors. We got this with crispy pork and it was tasty, but I wish it was crispier. I liked how it wasn't too fatty. -Fish Amok: It did not look like the picture, but the dish was still good. It was a sweet fish curry which was sweet from the coconut milk. This was tasty and the fish was soft. It wasn't fishy at all. This paired well with the rice. I would still opt for a savory curry though. -Beef Skewers: These were yummy and I enjoyed the charred flavor of these! The flavor was very similar to Filipino skewers. I liked how even the fatty parts were enjoyable. Steamed Rice: Fluffy and not mushy which I liked. It came served in this cute rice bucket which preserved the heat of it. The restaurant was decorated nicely and was pretty clean. Bathrooms available which were also clean. The service was good and attentive. There's lots of free parking in the lot in front. Overall, a solid Cambodian restaurant that's worth checking out in the Long Beach area!

Food also took an incredibly long time to come out even though we only ordered two dishes--student noodles and beef skewers. We also had to wave down a server just to follow up on the iced coffee that I ordered, especially since this was already after the food had finally arrived. Lastly, while it was good that they had their own parking lot, exiting through the almost too narrow alley was incredibly challenging in either direction. All in all, still remain torn about returning.

The service was EXCELLENT, the decor was beautiful, there were lots of flowers and lavender lighting throughout the venue. With such an elaborate menu and a large group to feed, there was no delay in keeping the flow of dishes in and pick-up of finished dishes. This was a 8-course dinner, served family style. Large platters of food were brought to our table of 8 guests, which was better than a buffet with hundreds of people waiting in line. Course #1 - Khmer Cold Plate with cured meats, shrimp, and pickled veggies. Good combination of protein and veggies. Course #2 - Grilled Beef with Prahok dipping sauce. Good smokey and rich flavor. Course #3 - Crispy Quail - with Khmer seasoning. Very crunchy and different way to eat Quail. Course #4 - Fish soup in a savory broth. I think this should have been Course #2 before the beef entree. Course #5 - Whole fish with pineapple garnish on a bed of noodles. My personal favorite. Course #6 - Lobster claws with Chow Mein, Veggies and Garlic sauce. We thoroughly enjoyed this one! Course #7 - Pork Fried Rice with diced veggies. Rice was definitely a welcome addition to the meal. Course #8 - Taro dessert with Coconut Milk topping. Not overly sweet, a nice way to round out and end the fabulous meal. I am still in awe of the wonderful time we all had. There was a stage and dance floor on the north side of the dining room. Entertainment by a DJ who played a variety of traditional music and popular tunes as well. They do have a small parking lot with valet service. The servers also didn't check on any of the tables throughout the dinner. They simply brought out each course and left. They even started cleaning up about 30 minutes before the event ended. That would've been fine if the tables had been empty, but they actually asked us to get out of our seats so they could remove the table and chair linens. As for the food, some dishes were good while others were just average: Traditional cold plate: 4/5 - I liked the century eggs, and the pickled vegetables were refreshing. Beef steak with anchovy sauce: 3/5 - The beef was well seasoned and nicely charred, but it didn't come with the anchovy sauce that was listed on the menu. House special lobster with egg noodles: 4/5 - The lobster was good, and the noodles were flavorful, but they could've been cooked a little longer since they were a bit too al dente for my taste. Crab meat soup: 3/5 - The soup was thick and flavorful, but it barely had any crab. I'm not sure what else was in it, but it had white square pieces that reminded me of chicharrones with a seafood flavor. House special fried rice: 4/5 - It was flavorful and had plenty of Chinese sausage, but I wish it had more shrimp. Sweet and sour fish and shrimp soup: 3/5 - There was an ingredient I wasn't a fan of. I think they added mint, which gave the soup an unusual flavor. It just wasn't for me. Taro dessert: 4/5 - This was pretty good and was a nice way to end the meal. Overall, I don't see myself coming back to dine here. Unfortunately, one employee, Marisol, consistently provides poor customer service. She comes across as combative, takes no accountability for mistakes, and makes resolving simple issues unnecessarily difficult. My daughter called in our usual order for pickup. When she arrived, she immediately noticed something was wrong because the total was much lower than expected. When she politely brought it to Marisol's attention, instead of acknowledging that there may have been a mistake, Marisol insisted the order had never been placed that way. She then asked my daughter if she wanted to order the missing item while she was already there to pick up her food, which would require waiting another 15 minutes. Since the delay was the result of an incorrect order, my daughter asked if she could at least receive fresh fries while waiting. Marisol told her she would have to pay extra for fresh fries. Marisol also claimed that she had repeated the order back over the phone when it was originally placed. That simply isn't true. She rushed my daughter off the phone, saying she'd see her in 15 minutes, without reviewing the order. We've continued to support A&J's because the food is consistently excellent, but experiences like this make it harder to keep coming back. Great food can only go so far when customers are made to feel dismissed instead of valued. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and provides additional customer service training so loyal customers receive the experience they deserve.
