There is a lot of parking out front the stalls are pretty tight though. They are located towards the end of sand island by the traffic light. The owners are the sweetest my total was $13.09 and they thought I had $13 and told me the $13 was fine and that I didn't need to pay the $0.09. I got the meat jhun and bbq chicken combination plate with Korean chop chae, fish cake, kimchee cucumber and seaweed. The cucumbers were ok not my favorite. The meat jhun and dipping sauce was good. The portion was rather small than other places I have been to, (they put a lot of rice tho) and the price is also a tiny bit higher, you know you are getting high quality. I didn't go for any of the pre-made items, and elected to go for a BBQ Chicken plate ($9.37 with tax). You get the standard - 4 sides with you plate, and rice. I ended up getting the brown rice with my meal. What can I say about my meal? Overall the food was just okay............nothing outstanding about it. The BBQ chicken marinade was so-so, but at least they didn't burnt the chicken like some other Korean BBQ places. My brown rice was kinda hard, so I ended up not eating it. The 4 sides I picked with my meal - (kimchee, bean spouts, kimchee fish cake, & cabbage) everything tasted okay, with the exception of the cabbage which had a rubbery texture....not sure what was up with that. I would probably have to agree with bruddah Eric Robert R. on da assessment of this place. My wife says that Best Drive Inn on Sand Island Road has been here for a long time. Funny, I've never noticed it. We tried to go to Ethel's on a weekend but they were closed for some reason so we decided to give Best Drive Inn a try. It was pretty slow as we were the only dine in patrons there and the restaurant was pretty small. The first thing you notice is how friendly the owner is, always smiling and pretty talkative. I ordered a kim chee burger and my wife ordered her favorite bi him kook soo. The burger was not bad but not great, the kim chee was on the slightly sour side but I like it that way. My wife really liked her bi bim kook soo, she likes it cold and that's the way it was served. Her portion was large enough to eat the leftovers for dinner. While we were eating we were served a side of kim chee compliments of the owner, how nice! It was a good dining experience and I want to return when I am hungrier to sample the BBQ chicken and kalbi. read more

We got the Best Drive-In Special, Kalbi and Meat Jun plate, and the Korean sushi roll. The plates come with 4 veggie sides that you choose. This is my second time coming here. I came last week for the first time and I was absolutely blown away by how NICE the gentleman behind the counter was. The food was good but I kept thinking about how kind he was. He actually welcomed everyone who came in, was patient when waiting for the order, and then invited me to sit down and relax while I waited. Wait ... where the hell am I? I've never been treated so politely in Hawaii, never mind at a Korean establishment. Sorry if that sounds racist but it's not. Usually the service is surly and dismissive, like you're impeding on their personal time. I'm sure it's different if you're Korean but I'm not so that's my personal experience. That sucks because I love Korean food. So when I was offered lunch here, I was like, "Ok, but you do the ordering." The food is really good too - if you've been to a Korean plate lunch restaurant then the concept is the same: you order your main meat (I got the meat jun plate last time and then the special this time which comes with kal bi, meat jun, fish jun, squash jun and mandoo) and then you get rice and four sides or sub the rice for five. Today I walked in and it was a pretty older woman behind the counter. Oh my god, she's so nice! Just before she served me she was finishing up another customer. She was smiling and laughing, then said, "Have a nice day! Don't work too hard!" Then - get this - she turned to me and smiled and said, "Hi, good morning, welcome!" Customer service establishments need to run FAM tours through Best Korean BBQ. Imagine being welcomed someplace! Am I being overly sensitive? I don't think so. It's so easy to get sucked into the local-kine service mentality which suggests the customer is lucky they even let you in the door. Anyway, the kind lady walked me through my options and invited me to have a seat. Then she continues to serve others with the same grace and joy. This is what it looks like when someone is doing what they love. I think you get my point. If you're in the mood to be treated with civility - maybe you're having a bad day and could use a smile - drop by Best Korean BBQ. You'll be haiku you did. Small drive-in on Sand Island Island Access Road that must get a lot of business from workers up the road. We have passed it so many times and wanted to stop but have never had the time. But tonight we made it in and boy, are we glad! The people who run the place (maybe owners?) are so very nice and helpful in explaining all the choices. And there are lots! My husband ordered the BBQ chicken with cabbage and also potatoes and fried saimin. I finally decided to get the Best Saimin which has wontons as well as the regular saimin goodies. Everything was amazing! The BBQ chicken was juicy with brown, crispy edges (our fav). My husband asked for some sauce for the chicken which was a tasty blend of flavors-BBQ sauce and teriyaki (but not so horribly sweet) with a broth base that gave the chicken an extra punch. The potatoes were delicious as well with a delicate sweetness on the outside and tender on the inside. The cabbage was steamed and wonderful. My saimin was also delicious too. The noodles tender, the delicate flavor of the broth was amazing but my favorite was the tender meaty bites of Wonton heaven!! We tried but there was no way we could finish the dinner. We had some saimin noodles left over and potatoes (which we took to go to have with tomorrow's dinner. Our whole dinner with a big drink cost only $16.97! My boyfriend frequents Best Drive-In when he needs a quick snack or lunch during the work week, and today I stopped by with him to grab his go-to favorite: chicken musubis. At $1.45 I've always wondered about these infamous chicken musubis which he swears by. Once I offered to make him a breakfast burrito and he told me he'd just grab a chicken musubi. So here is what I deduced are three possible reasons for his decision: A) My breakfast burritos suck. B) There is a hot girl at the counter. C) The chicken musubis are a really good deal and he was in a rush to get to work. Thankfully I think that the reason is "C," because although the man who runs Best Drive-In is super friendly, he is definitely not a hot girl and I know my cooking to be quite spectacular. I ordered four chicken musubis and they made them fresh which I thought was pretty great! The meat is chicken thighs which are nice and juicy and there's a huge ball of rice wrapped in big pieces of nori. A bit too much rice for my taste but my two-year old daughter devoured it with glee. These guys make the best kalbi EVER! My husband and I went to the gun shop next door and decided to get a small lunch to hold us off till dinner and let me tell you it was so worth it. I got corn, macaroni salad and kimchi for my sides. All of which were also perfect. The corn was cold, crisp and sweet while the macaroni salad wasn't piled with mayo. The kimchi was amazing! Only thing I would change was that it was a little too sour (something I'm not really used to). The meat was tender and very well seasoned. And unlike other places they gave me enough rice to eat with the meat.
