Local Korean plate lunch spot on Sand Island. My office has gone here for breakfast, lunch, and catering. Recently under new ownership, some things have changed but still a decent spot to grab good food at decent prices. They've kept on some of the same staff, so service is still great. The restaurant itself is small but clean and bright. It can get busy, so best advice is look online at their menu and call in your order. It's on Sand Island Access Road so parking is super limited as well. Be prepared for tons of large trucks too as the port is right there! read more

If you're in the area and need a bite to eat, Best Drive-in is a great option for a good, quick, made-to-order meal. You can eat there or get your food to-go. We had to drop a boat at the Keehi Marine Center early Friday morning and wanted to sit down for breakfast before taking an uber back to town. Best was open and serving customers. I got a mushroom omelet with brown rice and it was really good! If I'm ever back in the area again, I'm going to get a bento. The Korean veggie banchan sides looked really fresh and good. Funny how I've never heard of this place before. My work recently catered lunch from them. It was over a hundred bentos. The bentos were huge. There was chicken katsu, bbq chicken, meat jun, mandoo, soybeans and rice in the container. There was so much food that I ate the leftovers for dinner. The food was ok and flavorful. When we got the food it was already cold. I'm sure it would have been much better if the food was hot and the chicken katsu still crispy. They gave no sauces for the meat except a packet of soy sauce. I will have to come again and try something else on my own time. read more

I dropped off Xmas gifts to my friend who works right across and had about one hour before my hair appointment, made a u-turn and noticed Best Drive-In, I was thinking to myself why is this business sound so familiar?- I had this bookmarked after reading the great reviews, I finally get to try. Later that day, I checked Best Drive-In's Instagram page and found out that they have new owners, October 25, was the original owner's last day. Bummer that I can't compare Best Drive- In's food from original owners vs new. Checking out the menu board they have huge menu selection, bentos, & breakfast too. I read the musubi were popular, great to see that musubi are available in jun, katsu, and BBQ chicken, besides spam. I would come back to get this, if I am in the area again. I decided on the special combination plate, comes with most of the good stuff ( kalbi, bbq chicken, meat jun, fish jun, 1 piece man doo, and zucchini jun) & 4 sides, which I went with seaweed , kim chee, choi sum, and fish cake. Price for this plate $19.98. It was nice of the lady to give me a paper plate ( no charge), when I requested for one. I wanted to make a plate and give the rest to the hubby. The portions are a nice size and I like that they cut up all the meats! The meat jun sauce such small portion size, there is a charge of .25, if you need more. The verdict, I ate real quick- enjoyed the bbq chicken, fish jun, man doo, and kim chee! The seaweed was very sour, fish cake had a funny taste. I was a little disappointed when I asked if she could make the bbq chicken spicy style she said ok, but I guess she forgot so I mixed the chicken with the kim chee sauce to make it spicy. I gave the rest of my plate to the hubby - my meat jun snob other half, hehe, and I asked him the important question- how was the meat jun. I am hoping it will pass but he said it is "ok". Guess not. Best Drive-In is situated on Sans Island Access Road - in a long strip mall on the Diamond Head side. It looks like it's been there since its inception. Korean fast casual food. Food looks homemade...I say that as the kim chee has fish sauce/anchovy sauce in it...not to my taste. Requested the regular Meat Jun Plate; this comes with four banchan options. I usually get bean sprouts, choy sum, and kim chee...and this time I got potatoes in (apparently) a homemade mayonnaise. Honestly, it's tough to screw up the sides...and it is good. Kim chee? It is just a matter of personal taste. Meat Jun was fantastic. Thin slices of beef in a sweetend egg wash. I like it thin and not too eggy ( is that even a word ) and Best Drive-In delivered. My first time ordering Korean food from Best under new ownership and not disappointed. Great tasting Meat Jhun, not too "eggy" and Kalbi was meaty and had nice flavor. The sides were very good. I loved the pickled cucumber so much that I double ordered it plus double ordered the corn. The lady that took my order was so nice she gave me a cup of ice water while I waited. Was supposed to pick up lunch at Diem 99. It was closed. Both Google and Yelp had them open on Saturday. Well went around the block to Best Drive Inn. My wife went in to place our order. I soon followed so I could take a couple of pictures. Dine Inn area was spacious although it was limited to a few tables. The fish jun and meat jun are so much better than other places I've been to. Fish was perfectly cooked, soft and moist, meat was tender and well marinated, loved the type of batter they made with, the texture is not floury or starchy like other places'. I've been going to this place for years and not sure why I've never reviewed it. It's just a small hole in wall in the strip on Sand Island. I've seen places come and go in the strip over the years but Best always stands strong. I've picked up food for our office many times for lunch and the food is always fresh, well cooked, and delicious. I've never tried the breakfast myself but I know some regulars who rave over their breakfast sandwiches. One of the "best" parts about Best Drive-in is the owners. They're some of the nicest folks you've ever met! Every time I've gone in, they've treated me like family. If you haven't tried this place it's definitely worth a small detour off Nimitz to pop in and enjoy some delicious food with amazing service. read more

The spam masubi was good, the ramen had good flavor but was a little hot for me. Husband and chicken katsu, nothing special about it. He said that it was just katsu. Was given a bento from Best Drive-In, so can only comment on the food. Came with a good serving of rice, which was enough for the 4 pieces of BBQ chicken, 4 pieces of chicken katsu, and 4 pieces of meat jun. Also had a kamaboko, 2 takuwan, and 3 edamame pods. The BBQ chicken was ok, nothing special. I liked the katsu, even though it wasn't crunchy by the time I ate it. It was missing sauce which was a bummer, but it still tasted good and was easy to bite into. The meat jun was my favorite. To me this is actually the Worst Drive-In. To start it off the portions are really small, for example a regular BBQ Chicken here gets you 3 pieces only not 4 like everywhere else. They are also very light on the side dishes too. Sometimes they don't put in fresh kimchee so it becomes very sour since it becomes old, but it's good when it's not. It's also very expensive where it is 18 Dollars for a Regular BBQ Chicken with 3 pieces! They also have the thinnest meat jun and bbq chicken I have ever seen in my life. In fact all the meats here are thin and dry. Idk how you can mess up a bbq chicken but its dry, stringy, and not juicy at all. Meat jun is like cardboard. Disappointing. Korean owners and they are friendly enough, but this is an insult to korean food. I seriously wonder if they even taste their own food. The only reason they have business is cause there is no other Korean take-out place in the area. I try to go here once in a while hoping maybe it was an off day. This is where we stop before heading back to the airport. The bbq chicken is perfectly smoked and charred. The musubis are hot and amazing. I've been coming here to this (young) mom and pop Korean restaurant almost since they opened, I'd like to say around 1995-ish, and have nothing but good things to say! Same great food quality at an affordable price and the owners Dan and his wife and employees, Tina in particular who I am most familiar with, are friendly and kind no matter how busy they are. I always see them being as efficient as they can. Located in the Sand Island area at edge of the industrial Kalihi area nearest the airport on-ramp to/from the airport and the Ewa plain. There aren't too many restaurant places in this area so if you are nearby, come try some yummy Korean food! If you need a quick dinner pick up, they're open til 6pm! There's free parking out front lining the store fronts and if parking is all taken, you can line up your car along the entrance as long as you leave enough space for cars parked in stalls to leave. This is mostly an order-out restaurant rather than a sit-down restaurant great for the surrounding area full of heavy industrial type working busy ppl even CDL truck drivers whose routes pass by make good use of this place at all hours from early morning and throughout the day who really need to eat and want something good. They do have ample family-style seating with a few single tables if you want to order in. Walk in and you'll enter their larger than small hole in the wall seating area; straight ahead is their ordering counter. Whether order-out or eat-in, everyone orders and pays for their choices at the counter. Check out their regular menu which sits above and behind their cash register/hot station counter to decide what you want while you're waiting in line, place your order once you're at the counter, usually their meals and soups will come with choice of white or brown rice, and then 4 ban chan. They might not have table service but if you need anything, just walk to the counter to let them know, including whether your table needs a wipe down or you need a water refill. Couple neat things about this place: First, they have a large selection of ban chan easily visible to the left of their ordering counter everything from cucumber and won bok Kim Chees to beansprouts, taegu, tofu prepped various ways, to seaweed, cabbage, and even choy sum, and second is that they also have limited Japanese and local food favorites like yummy crunchy katsu, spam or hot dog musubi, and other okazuya-type items. I've never tried it but at times I see Korean sushi for sale on their counter. I need to try it sometime! Bc I don't eat much beef, pork, or chicken, my all time favorite plate lunch has become their fish jun. The fish is enclosed in a soft egg coating and the meat is always soft and delectable. Although they do have two sauces, I think it goes better with their Chojijang sauce more than the other sauce which is a sweet mirin-shoyu. I also really like their yummy soups mainly their Korean mochi soup and seaweed soup but I do feel that somehow their soups don't contain as much as I'd like. Also they stopped serving the Korean mochi soup. Shucks :( This place quickly became one of my most favorite places for yummy Korean food especially when I'm working in the area and in need of a quick meal. Although I might not be here every day or every week (sometimes I am! haha!), I have to say that I'm so glad they are still around for whenever I need a good meal. Just started working around the area and one of my coworkers went to pick up food. I didn't know they had gotten me a bento, thanks again, Fred! I took it home to feast on and it was so ono. Just the right amount of everything. They gave katsu sauce and meat Jun sauce. It was a good first time trying them out. I'm not too sure how much it costs but I know it's not as expensive as other places. These businesses are gonna keep taking my money. I've also heard from my coworkers that the owners are nice people. Can't wait to pick something up for myself or for my coworkers as well soon! He was the only one working the counter and when I arrived there was a lady ahead of me, but three people behind me, but he still served everyone with a genuine smile!
