If you guys only knew how many times I've been here over the years!! So there is a little biased in my opinion of this joint, however everyone I've ever brought here still comes here. On this trip I was welcomed the same as everyone else with a smile, eye contact, and a greeting. Orders are taken pretty quickly and with a good attitude. I ordered the BBQ chicken and meat jun combo with all veggies no rice. Usually, the meal comes with 4 veggie choices (banchan) and rice, but you can sacrifice the rice for an additional veggie choice. Very accommodating. BBQ chicken has a nice marinade which is not overly sweet. Chicken isn't juicy nor is it meant to be. But it's still soft not chewy. Side sauces are available for dipping and if you want the chicken stronger just ask. Meat Jun is outstanding. Mild flavor with a hint of a sweet marinade on the meat. The egg and beef don't separate and fall apart which is a nice bonus. Meat is soft and melts in your mouth. Mmmmmmm!! Tons of sides available but I went with Cucumber Kim chee, Kim chee, choy sum, bean sprouts, and tofu. All good. Overall, I got a massive amount of food for $8.50. Needles to say portion is great, service is outstanding, food quality is great, and just a great value. As an example that makes this place unique if you're eating there and ask for water you get a nice large cup of water in a hard plastic restaurant style cup. I have been going to this eatery since 2003. What can be said about a place that is around for that long on such a limited area that already isn't said about a business being around for so long? (get it? or did I lose you?) I guess I can give some details since you already can figure out that it is a sure thing eatery. May not be the best in everything but most things are pretty darn good. And that is not easy to do. Let me start with the owners and workers...every day, always smiling, all day long. Wonderful people, hard-workers! Love them! Okay, now the food. Whether it is the ready made okazuya offered in the morning for breakfast eaters that are in a rush, to made to order meals off the menu, everything is pretty tasty. The name is confusing because you don't think they have Korean food.My first time here I didn't know what kind of food was on the menu.I found out the owner was taking my order,it was the busy lunch hour but she still had our food served quickly. Absolutely loved this place! The lady that owns/runs it is the absolute sweetest and goes above and beyond to make sure you have what you need. My dad, sister and I came to grab breakfast before I dropped them at the airport and it was, quick, fast and easy. I had the bacon, eggs and rice and my dad had the BLT sandwich, which he said is his favorite. My dad works in the area so he stops there a couple times a week for breakfast and says he loves it. There's parking right in the front. They also carry canned drinks in a refrigerator and grab and go take out items if you're in a hurry. Prices went up by a dollar since our last time ordering, but heck, it's still a good deal. We got the Menu I which comes out to $13 per person, buffet style for a party of about 40 people. People loved the food and kept coming back for more. And when we told them to bring home left overs, they jumped on it and took home plates on top of plates. Small shop that can be easy to miss in Sand Island...worth waiting for parking to grab some food. 1 star = location convenience - next Korean restaurant is quite a bit away and these guys are always busy because of it. 1 star = customer service // lady who helps doesn't speak English very well but is sweet and makes sure your order is correct! 1 star = how quick they are with your order 1 star = the actual food! Best Drive In really does have the best Korean plate lunch AND the Korean staff is super nice and friendly. This is where the truckers and longshoremen working at Sand Island eat for lunch, so do not go during peak hours because there will be no place to sit and a long line. They serve okazuya items here, burgers, saimin, soups, and a full Korean plate menu. You can also buy catering platters for large parties. I usually have the Best Special--it's one of those plates with everything on it, like meat and zucchini jun, barbeque chicken and beef, kalbi, mandoo, rice and your choice of 4 vegetables for only $6.95. The kimchee and vegetable selection here is very good, especially the spicy dried radish strips, and they give generous portions. They are so accomodating here that when my boyfriend said he wished they had sweet shoyu potatoes as a veggie choice, the man helping us went to the back and got him some from another customer's special order! Well it's Monday again and my trusty office-mate and I are looking for a good place to get a plate lunch without breaking the bank. As we start our regular banter back and forth, "Where do you want to eat?" "I don't know, where do you want to eat?" This typically last for about 5 or 6 minutes until someone else in our office takes charge (because they are sick of us) and makes a solid suggestion. Today, the (usually subdued) executive assistant said "Hey, try Best Drive In on Sand Island Access Road. I hear chef Sam Choy likes the Kal Bi and Spicy Pork Combo. Hmmm I say, that does sound pretty tasty. And with that, we are off like a herd of turtles! Best Drive in is located on the left hand side of Sand Island Access Road just past the stripper bar (no lie, you know where that place stay). We got there just after 11:00 a.m. and there was plenty of parking out front and the semi trucks just make there own parking places parallel to the main road (who's going to argue with them?). When we walked into Best Drive In, two things jumped right out at us... One; every single person in the place was a hard working dock worker or a semi truck driver with a big appetite. Second; There were all kids of take out orders already boxed up waiting for there owners to pick them up and be devoured. These were two good signs because really hungry people eat here and it was obvious that the regulars didn't want to wait around in line, they just wanted to drop in, pay and get back to wherever they came from. Ok, let's check out the menu... Oh, they serve breakfast too, 2 eggs, choice of 5 different breakfast meats, two scoops rice and a small coffee for $3.50. The steam table at the front counter is like a mini Okazu with fried chicken, bbq beef, hamburger steak, fish and some other stuff that looked really good but I didn't know what it was. If you choose the Okazu route, 3 choices is just $5.25, 4 choices $5.95, 5 is $6.67 and 7 is just $7.25. All come with 2 scoops of brown or white rice. I ordered what brought me here, the Spicy Pork & Kal Bi combination for $8.25.. Hey, if it's good enough for Sam Choy... It came with my choice of 4 veggies and I choose brown rice. My worker-bee friend ordered the Best Drive In Special, Kal Bi, BBQ Chicken, Fish, Meat Jhun, Fried Man Doo, Squash Jhun with choice of four veggies and white rice for $8.50. How she functions for the rest of the day is yet to be seen! Other menu items include Burgers & Fries (who orders burgers & fries at a Korean place?), an assortment of Noodles & Soups, your typical plate lunch choices of Teri Beef, Chicken Katsu, Fried Chicken (which looked delish!) and Broiled Saba. They also offer a pretty nice selection of mini plate lunches for the non-dock worker type people with smaller appetites. All in all, menu prices ranged from $5.25 on the low side to $8.50 for the Shrimp Stir Fry and larger combos. The food was awesome (every last bit of it), hugemongous portions and believe it or not, the service was friendly (I do realize that's an oxymoron for a Korean restaurant, LOL). I would highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Koren food and is really, really hungry... I had a project out here for a few months, and I ended up eating here almost every day. Best Drive-In truly lives up to its name! Food: Restaurant quality in a mixed plate to go! They have the best side dishes, especially the shoyu and mayo potatoes and choy sum. Having such great side dishes lets them make a KILLER bibimbap! I've also had their sundubu, kalbi, and meat jun, all of which I found delicious. I honestly think that Best's food is better than a lot of sit-down Korean restaurants I've been to. It's THAT good. Service: Friendly, funny, quick. The same man is usually taking and filling orders at the front. He's really engaging and fun to joke around with. He made me feel like a regular after just two visits. The guy will bring you your food and a glass of water at your table, which I feel is pretty uncommon for most drive-ins. He made great recommendations and even offered to customize one of their soups by making it hot for me on a cold, rainy day. "Of course I can make it hot, I'm Korean!" he told me. Venue: The food outdoes the setting. There are about 5 or 6 tables that can seat 4. The place is kept tidy but is definitely a drive in. I would compare the atmosphere to the take-out seating found at most Zippy's restaurants. Parking can be tricky and this place gets pretty busy around lunch time. The parking can be a bit rough and a lot of the big rigs tend to line up in what looks like a large bike lane but its probably actually designed for the big trucks. Once you get a parking stall Best Inn is tucked in near the diamond head end of the strip mall. We were immediately greeted by the kind friendly staff with a "long time no see", which made us feel nice and welcomed even though we hadn't been there before. I ordered the Meat Jun with a small drink (the drink sizes are big) and have my choice of korean veggie sides. The sides were fresh and tasty and portions a bit generous. The one complaint was that the potato salad was really dry, amazing enough, the potato was dry...the mayo of course not. The Meat jun was UNREAL, honestly the best Meat Jun I've ever had. My friend had the spicy pork which was good, but she agreed, the Meat Jun was awesome. We will be back for more Meat Jun!!! read more

I love the people that work here. They're always friendly when I go in. One time when I phoned in an order, they automatically knew it was me who phoned it in, even though it was only my second or third time! Unless I'm that unforgettable, I give them props for that. They're quick to get to help you even though there's a line (unless someone in front of you is ordering 50 plates), and food comes out really fast. Korean Okazu at a cheap price? Yes you can! I've catered food and purchased bentos from here before for company functions and they never disappoint. Today I had lunch from here and decided to go with the okazu items. Keep in mind that I've eaten at other okazu places and my bill hits the $12 to $15 range and I'm still not full. Here you get 3 choices for $5.25+tax or 4 choices for $5.75+tax. Now that's a deal! You get all the traditional items plus Korean items to choose from. After ordering 4 choices (pork with eggplant, hamburger steak with onions, kim chee, BBQ chicken and 1 scoop white and 1 scoop brown rice) the plate felt like it weighted 5lbs easy. One thing they don't do is hold back on the portions. Everything tasted good and was actually too much food. No wonder I heard the lady saying "that's enough" after my 3rd choice. I must say for a Korean run place the workers and owner is very nice. They greet you with a "warm" hello and shout as you leave "thank you very much! Have a good day!".
