5 stars across the board for Best Thing Flopping. I found out about them about a week ago from a TikTok video where somebody was RAVING about how good the original Red Oak location was and highly suggested it. Once I realized they had just opened a location less than 5 minutes from my place, I had to check them out. My first night there I had KJ as my server and she is hands down one of the best of the best. Friendly, welcoming, easy to get along with, and worth every dollar of a tip. She literally made the experience feel personal and invited me back. When I returned, I met additional staff members Dee and Aaron and they were equally amazing. Aaron made me his favorite secret drink that was SO good I jokingly offered to pay for the recipe. Dee sent me and a friend over a shot made with so much love and hospitality that it honestly stood out. For dinner both times, I ordered the 3-piece regular catfish steak meal with fries, peppers, and bread and both times it was AMAZING. Fresh, flavorful, hot, and seasoned exactly how it should be. Great food is one thing, but great customer service is what creates loyal customers and this team absolutely gets it. Highly suggest checking them out. read more

Best Thing Flopping is perhaps the worst name for the greatest Catfish place in the DFW metro for fried Catfish fillets. The simple storefront in a strip center place across from the forlorn former Valley View Mall is not visually attractive from the outside. The interior is clean and neat, but still adorned with remnants of the previous tenant's Mexican restaurant decor. There's a small stage from which a D.J. performs on weekends. The solo waitress of a late Saturday afternoon was pleasant and attentive; she, too, is a holdover from the Mexican restaurant. The menu is simple: catfish, fillet or bone-in, in any number from 1 to 15, two "baskets", shrimp or links plus fillets. All the meals are really platters (poorly designed menu) with crinkle-cut frozen fries, two pieces of white bread, a big jalapeno, and hamburger chip pickles. We had the catfish fillets, three for her and two for me. These are not the strips that some places pass off as fillets; these are full-sized and on the thick side. Cornmeal coating, tasty and carefully fried, the catfish was GREAT, the last catfish I had so good was in Alabama. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed the flaky catfish; the French fries were unremarkable, and the squeeze-pack tartar sauce was not much. I ate mine with a little Louisiana hot sauce and nothing else. This place lacks curb appeal, but they know how to fry catfish. I suggest making your own tartar sauce and adding some other sides besides white bread. And then we have a hit. But in the end, all the cited flaws will have no effect on my destination for catfish, I'm flopping in again soon! PS: Good on the rock margaritas too!! Saturday happy hour! The fried catfish was great well seasoned (fried slightly hard), however the fries could use some kind of seasoning. They gave us a shrimp plate for free on the way out the door, which was appreciated. Although, I have to agree with other reviewers that it seems to be typical pre frozen breaded fried shrimp nothing to write home about. It honestly was not great. The fish kinda tasted dirty and needed more seasoning. I think this is just how they prepare it because the other location in Red Oak also tastes the same with the same critique. Serving breaded frozen shrimp out of the frozen food section is absurd. I don't think I've ever gone to a restaurant that specializes in seafood only to be served shrimp from a box that was already breaded. I can't get over that. The fish was okay. I had been craving fried shrimp, but it's obvious they are known for their catfish. I ordered a catfish and 4 shrimp combo that came with fries. Catfish was great and fried hard. This is plenty to split between 2-3 people. The Shrimp was sort of slimy. Would not recommend. I was also there during happy hour and ordered the frozen margarita. It tasted off, despite its texture liijubgv. The bar was out of certain ingredients so I did not try to get another drink. read more

The appearance of the restaurant was nice, clean and not to busy. They did have a open bar but at the time I went which was about 6:30 p.m. on Friday the crowd was slowly coming in. The food was absolutely delicious. Cooked fresh to order. I loved the fish steaks. Presentation of the food was very nice and the customer service was quite pleasant. The food is amazing! My sister and I shared a combo (10 fish strips and 4 shrimp, fries, and 2 slices of bread) since the waitress said it was enough for 2 people. It was actually enough for 3-4 people! The server brought out our food piping hot. The cons are the fries could use some seasoning on them and the shrimp have a frozen shrimp vibe. The ambience was nice. There is a setup for a band but they weren't playing during the time I was there. The only cons I have is that there was only 1 person, that served as the server and bar tender but she was great. I'd definitely go back! read more

Went to see what the hype was all about with this place and it was just okay. The fish was good and fresh but the shrimp tasted like something they went and bought out of restaurant depot.
