I recently stayed at the Best Western Plus Commerce Hotel in California and had a mixed experience. The staff were polite, but the room itself had several issues that affected my stay. The bathroom exhaust fan was barely working, which made the bathroom feel humid. The room felt very congested with two queen beds and furniture packed tightly, leaving little space to move around. The bathroom sink wasn't draining properly, and when maintenance came, they had to remove the entire top piece to get it to drain. It worked afterward, but it looked unfinished and not what you expect in a hotel room. I mentioned these concerns to the front desk and asked if they could offer any kind of service recovery or a small discount, but they didn't provide anything. Overall, the hotel was clean and the staff were courteous, but the room conditions and lack of customer service response kept this visit from being better. Three stars. read more

This has to be one of the oddest hotel experiences I've ever had, the lack of customer service was honestly baffling from people in the hospitality industry. The one pleasant thing about our stay was while swimming a staff member lent us some floaties. Other than that, our bathroom shower didn't drain properly and flooded the whole bathroom when we showered. Our neighbor to our ajoining room was smoking cigarettes in their room all night with the TV on very loud making it hard to sleep. I notified the front desk regarding the smoking thinking maybe someone was outside our ground floor window smoking infront of our ac. Nothing. Smoke smell got heavier and thicker in our room so I walked out to speak to the front desk. She asked if I'd like to move rooms, barely looked at the computer and said they're all booked. I wanted to make sure we wouldn't be charged for the smoking. Went to check out this morning, and I wasn't asked how my stay was, just asked if I was checking out and told what they needed. When I asked the morning crew about the smoking, no discount, no apology no nothing. Just a shocked look on their faces. No customer service or apology. The night crew lady I spoke to at the front desk came and knocked on our door after I spoke with here. Came in our room and just sprayed some type of "febrezee" or something to maske the odor. So we got to try to go to sleep in fake flowers in cigarettes. I was also told security was coming like they would handle/remove our neighbor. They were there overnight lol so they really didn't do anything to prevent them from continuing to smoke or removing them. What really blew my mind is we were in a handicapped room. God forbid anyone with medical or health issues was staying there and treated like that. Every time I approached the front desk, they were talking to a co worker and you had to wait to get help almost as if I was interrupting them. I'd suggest staying elsewhere if you'd like to get your moneys worth. I also booked online since they've advertised as having room service, room service is a Denny next door that's burnt down. Unfortunately that was one of the main factors for choosing here for us, I hope they update that for others to avoid making the same mistake we made. read more

Visually this hotel looks nice. Unfortunately, our stay was less than desirable. We had to be transferred to multiple rooms due to multiple issues. The first room we were put in, the toilet seat was cracked in half and the wood plank was sticking up completely. They were not able to repair it so they had to move us. The second room they gave us had an intense fish odor. They acknowledged the odor and gave us another room near the ice machine, which was noisy, but even more problematic the bathroom was covered in ants. There was no other option so we stayed in the ant room. This location also offers a Denny's on premise, but they failed to mention that the Denny's has burned down. The area is so so and kind of sketchy. Overall, I could not recommend this hotel for so many reasons. read more

We stayed at this hotel because we were going to Universal Studios. Which was about like 20 minutes from there. The front desk was super sweet very kind and very attentive. The area that it's located does look a little sketchy but for the most part the inside of the hotel was very nice. Everything just seemed very straightforward nothing fancy about the rooms or anything like that, but it wasn't bad. During the time we went it wasn't super packed nor was there any noise disturbance. There was enough parking and there were a few fast food restaurants in the area. read more

My family and myself stayed for 3 nights here. We were very satisfied with our stay. The whole facility including the rooms were very clean and smelled nice. Room had a keurig coffee machine, microwave and a fridge. Beds were decent and we slept very well. We stayed on the 3rd floor and did not hear any outside noise and no noise from above us. There was plenty of parking available. The free breakfast was above expectations. The food was hot and fresh with a lot of variety. They kept the food and eating area very clean. The only issue we had was that the bathroom fan did not work and the blackout curtains did not shut so we had to use a chip clip to block out some light. There is a Dennys restaurant right next door. Freeway access is very close and the area was pretty quiet. I would suggest not venturing off very far in evening. read more

This hotel is pleasant for the most part. Seems like they have had ownership or management change in the last couple of months. The new manager Hayle/Hayde is anything but pleasant. She is rigid and although I am a diamond member does not offer the complimentary water that is gifted to diamond members upon check in. The rooms are clean, the breakfast decent, but the management definitely less than desirable. Here's to hoping that this new management team gets moved along or replaced soon. read more

Never booked a hotel in this area it was our first time in Downey area and found a lot of "Motel" style hotels in this area which did not seem safe. I found this location and after a few good review we booked it since the parking seemed safe. The hotel is in a "Okay"... Nothing EXTRA fancy just your BASIC hotel. The area nothing you can just walk the street late at night... Only place is a Denys in the same parking lot. Next time I would book down town Downey with more options to walk around and grab food and explore. The hotel is location off the free way access and only 40 min for us to get to Huntington beach on a Saturday morning. Super easy freeway access which was very convenient. The location not the best area I felt but the hotel was nice. The area seemed older not modern. The hotel staff was very welcoming and the room was very large and clean and everything worked in the room great. This hotel had a great free little breakfast which was nice for a quick coffee and bite. Would I book again.... No... I would stay somewhere closer and more modern. read more

Good breakfast options and available for a longer period of time than most hotels that offers breakfast. Front desk staff were friendly and prompt. Pool was small and not heated. The wall is too high and the sun gets blocked by the hotel building so can't get much sun in the late afternoon. Housekeeping was not respectful of our privacy request and came in our room anyway and started changing our beds but then suddenly realized they were not suppose to be in the room and just left everything instead of finishing up the job. We would be happier if they had finish the job instead of leaving the room a mess. It's easier to forgive when things are in order than when we came back to our room to find a mess in the room and the bathroom after they had fixed the towel bar. There was dust all over on the floor and the bathroom counter. The location is not ideal either because it was not in the center of LA so it took longer to get to places like the beach and airport. read more

Convenient. Right off i5. Clean However, I got burnt from the metal tip part of the plug of the hair dryer and got a blister within an hour. Plug showed signs of melting plastic around the metal tips. Told the manager about it and they never filed an incident report or even asked how I was doing. They said they would send a new hair dryer up but the one they sent also had melted plastic around the plug. On checkout, I brought up again that I got burned to the morning manager and once again they did not ask how I was doing only mentioning that they'll check their hair dryers. Matched with a hard bed and clanking A/C that woke me up multiple times, this was just a generally disappointing visit. I knew I was in for trouble when I got in and their promo monitor by their elevator was displaying upside down and there was a repair ticket form on my nightstand when I got in my room. This was suppose to be a wonderful birthday trip for my mother and it ended up being a complete disaster. This was her first time in California and i can't imagine a more HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE than this. We were assigned room 203. I met my mother in the lobby with flowers. LAX is a fucking zoo so I was hoping to cheer her up. She was second in line as a line of 7 people waiting to be served formed in the lobby. We finally get the room keys. We head upstairs and the room smells AWFUL AND DAMP LIKE MILDEW. We open the window to try and get some air. I head to the restroom and there is mold on the ceiling!!! My mom starts freaking out. I say we should just get some sleep. We put on our pajamas and around 1 am I feel so itchy I can't stand it. I turn on the lights and there they are!!!! My worst fear. I have never in my life had bed bugs I start taking pictures and google what does a bed bug look like. I go to the bathroom and get toilet paper to squash them and flush. I AM MORTIFIED. I run down to the lobby and show the person at the front desk my back and legs. I cannot believe this was happening to me. I am so itchy I buy Benadryl in the lobby to help with the itch. I want a full and complete refund from Best Western. The quality and care they showed me was without a doubt HORRENDOUS. I just think this is completely unacceptable that i was trying to show my mother a wonderful time for her birthday trip and first time in Cali and instead I get bit 15 times by bed bugs. The first time we stayed here it was a really good experience. Staff was nice and rooms were clean BUT this last time we stayed here it was a complete disaster. We got in late at around 2am and put our luggages in the room and left to get some food because we were starving. When we walked in, the room smelt damp and humid but I didn't think anything of it (usually rooms are cold with the ac blasting to give it a crisp and clean feel and that was not the case here). We got back to the room at around 4am and started getting ready for bed. When I pulled the covers back and put my hands on the bed to lay down I felt crumbs so I instantly got up and turned on the light on my phone. There were crumbs everywhere! So I decided to pull back the covers some more to make sure there wasn't any other debris and come to find out there was hair everywhere! I instantly told my bf to pack our things and that we were leaving. We went downstairs and asked Eduardo (the shift manager) for a refund which he gave us. We went and called everywhere for a room but had no luck since it was Memorial Day weekend and everything was booked up! We had no choice but to return to get accommodated at least for the rest of the night or sleep in the car. When I went in to ask for a different room he said there were none available and that there was nothing he could do bc there was no room service ladies there. I asked if he could accommodate us just for a couple of hours and that we would be out before 12pm. He said he could but he would have to charge us at a discounted rate. I was in complete shock I was being told I was going to have to pay even a penny for sleeping in a dirty room! After going back and form with him we came to an agreement of putting down a deposit to ensure we didn't mess up the room and that we wouldn't be charged. Mind you at this point it was already 5am. I woke up at 8am and left, the actual manager of the establishment came to speak with me and apologized for the inconvenience, told me he was going to make an incident report and that we would not be charged anything. This situation was extremely frustrating for me especially because it was my birthday! We will be staying at a different hotel for the rest of the stay and will never stay here ever again. Staying here , I've learned, is a hit or miss. Please have a plan B so you don't end up in my situation. Our stay was 5 nights and 6 days. We got there early and it was hot and we were tired so we asked if we can just hang at the pool to which they said yes thank God. We actually needed up getting our room about and hour and a half later. The stay was great the only problem was I was super hot for 3 nights so little tip if ur hot at night and the ac isn't cutting it open the window it makes a huge difference. The staff was super friendly and helpful the only staff I found rude was the man mopping and sweeping as you walk down for the breakfast I mean I understand sweeping but mopping while people are still walking in and out for breakfast and then have an attitude about us walking by pissed me off a little other than him everyone super nice. I recommend this place if you plan on doing Disneyland, universal studios and Hollywood cause it's in the middle of all your drives. The room was clean upon arrival, and everything was in order. I have long hair and forgot to pack my shampoo but fortunately I was able to catch the housekeeper outside of my room and she gave me a handful. I loved her customer service and willingness to help me out. The breakfast was great, they offer eggs, bacon, sausage, bagels, cereal, etc. The worker serving the food was friendly. Breakfast was served every morning however if you would like something different there is a Dennys next door! Every time I walked out of my room; I saw the employees cleaning. The lobby always smelled clean and was tidy. I did not use the pool not sure if it was open and the gym was open and available, but I did not use it either. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the water pressure would randomly get lower. Also, 3 out of the 5 nights there was a car alarm going off at approximately 3 am. I understand it was not the hotel's fault however it was still something we did not want to deal with. The alarm for the elevator went off 3 times during out stay in a 2-day period. We called the front desk and they informed us that someone pressed the emergency button in the elevator. Not sure if it was a kid playing in the elevator or someone was really stuck. read more

Check in time is 3pm and checkout time is 12 noon. The bed was comfy, the room was smart with contemporary decor, lots of usb charging ports and good wifi connection. A coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge are standard in every room. Taking a shower was a pleasant experience because the shower head can be adjusted for high pressure or medium pressure water streams. If I could give them a zero I would!! No idea why this hotel rating was 4.5. Where do I start! We first arrived to a beeping fire alarm because the batteries needed to be changed. The restroom door had issues staying closed. The restroom faucet kept getting stuck as you turned on and off. If you want ants as roommates come here they live in the restroom. Mold in the top of room and on cabinets. Elevators had graffiti and were filthy! Our room and entire hotel smelled like stinky feet due to the old out dated carpet. Yuck! The lights outside in front were flicking the entire time. For breakfast I was given an expired burrito. And they had the security guard give us clean towels when we requested them a few times. Currently staying here the phone don't work Maintence came in two different times and could not fix it. Wi-Fi has not worked since we came they did because of the rain. A big red stain on the carpet. I initially booked this hotel through Expedia, and was quite surprised at the pricing. I reserved it 20 minutes before arriving and just wanted something decent for the night. While it's not a walkable distance to anything "touristy", it's a great value as you can still drive to nearby attractions and destinations. It's also right off the freeway exit, which makes it easy to find and navigate to/from. The hotel seemed recently renovated, with a lovely lobby, work area, and breakfast area. The staff was extremely pleasant and were very efficient with my check-in and check-out service. I was shocked when reading the reviews, as I had no experience with bugs (I always check) or things not working in my room. I also didn't have any experience with noise or unwanted smells. While my experience was a 4-star, it's definitely not a 4 or 5-star hotel, but I'm happy with my stay here. My booking included breakfast, which had an assortment of eggs, potatoes, sausage, a waffle station, breads/pastries, cereals, fruit, and more. They offer free parking (which is a plus because most LA hotels charge for valet or self-parking), gym, pool, and room service as well. I'd suggest looking into each hotel a little more thoroughly if you are looking for something special, but I think this was more than acceptable considering all factors! August 27th: We checked into our room. Clean Room and Bathroom. All was ruined by our noisy neighbor. At 3am their TV could be heard thru our walls. We called to complain and nothing was done. The complaint wasn't even recorded. The next day at 9am we could here our neighbors with their TV at the same volume. We called to report it and the front desk didn't even receive our complaint from the night before. Horrible place to book a room don't !!Front desk extremely rude. We came in to find out their water wasn't working. We booked with hotels.com We asked Eduardo if he knew what time their water would come back he stated no. We came from a 1 hour drive to find this out once we got there ! when we asked if there was any way to have a discount do to this unforeseen occurrence Eduardo looked at his coworker Maria for her to state no because she had let us know that the water wasn't already working and it was up to us to then stay. But sense they informed us she doesn't see it fit for us to get a discount? Which we felt like why pay for a full service if we don't have a full service it's a risk in itself to stay. Yet we are tired and pretty much have our hands tide. She pretty much stated it is what it is take or leave it ! Maria was extremely rude Eduardo seem to want to help but seem to look to his coworker for guidance not once did Eduardo nor Maria apologize for the inconvenience or say anything to apologize in behalf of their company they simply seemed careless for us as clients who just drove 1 hour and Desperately needed rest. Such an awesome experience here. The hospitality is phenomenal. Very clean, everything smells nice. Replaced all of our vanity. Clean up is so quick just don't forget the dnd sign. I needed a place for a quick 2 nights and this place came to me for it's good reviews. I'm so happy I came here. The rooms are comfy, with desks, plenty of plugs and a little couch/lounger with a tray. Lots of mirrors, good quality shampoos and soaps, strong wifi, and a coffee machine with good microwave and fridge. Basic accommodations that make a difference in a hotel stay. The concierge staff is very polite and helpful, there cleaning staff is always working. The rooms are clean, beds are clean, no bugs anywhere. It's so nice and quiet, and I'm on the 2nd floor. It's so close to the freeway, but with these great windows, you would never know it. I almost hate to leave. I am happy I found this place because I have discerning taste when it comes to service and this place is doing it right. They also have a business center that a lot of other places don't offer right now during covid. They do have a limited selection of snacks and drinks, but you should probably bring in something more nutritious if you're going to be here more than a day. There is plenty of parking, 4 floors of rooms, and the hallways and common areas are always clean and safe. Also, there's Denny's right outside, about 200 feet from the lobby, so that's a nice option for dinner or a quick snack if you need one. read more

I really loved the place we stayed there for like 6/half days. The last hotel I went to with my family in Las Vegas was terrible and racist and had no breakfast place. This hotel did it had amazing food such as eggs, hash browns, like different types of cooked eggs, bacon , apples, bread, blueberry muffins, blueberry bread, chocolate muffins, muffins, apple juice, orange juice, oatmeal, yogurt and more!. The rooms where really nice! Now the reason why I am giving it ether and 3 or 4 starts is because I think the beds had bedbugs and that's just ewww tbh. My sister and mom also woke up with ants on there hair but I am not sure if it was actually the beds or just some where else but we did put a disinfecting virus and more types of stuff spray. read more

I usually stay at Best Western PLUS hotels because they are very nice. This location use to be a Ramada inn. It is not plus quality. Upon arriving I was not notified that the building is under construction. They were painting and had half the parking blocked off. It was hot inside and had a weird smell in the check in area. After checking in I opened the door to my room to find it dirty and not cleaned. Second room had curly black hairs in the tub. After a 4 hour drive to get to that hotel, you could say I wasn't happy. Oh and also their TV cable was out. The AC unit was so loud I couldn't sleep or hear the person next to me talking. I didn't even get a discount on this trash hotel. From now on I told myself I'm paying more and staying somewhere else, like Hilton. Really disappointed and a huge bummer driving 4 hours to a place you can't relax at. Only stayed one night. Staff was friendly, hotel renovated, but I am unhappy with certain aspects of the place. First off, I had to deal with the smell of marijuana all night through now as I am typing, which seems to enter through the ac and vents in the room. I am very unhappy considering I am here with my young daughter. Additionally, any noise is heard. Walls seem so thin. I could hear every sound made from the people above my room. After reading about the bed bug problem, I am taking extra precautions and checking everything, which is not ok! read more

We had the worst experience staying here. We drove 12 hours from New Mexico to take our 10 year old daughter to Disneyland and Universal for her birthday. It had taken me at least 3 weeks to find a hotel that was nice and had everything we needed. So we thought! Started off great...they let us check in early since we had just drove through the night 12 hours and needed to shower and rest which was great they were able to do that for us but when we checked in at 12pm on Thursday and they did not notify us that they had no water! So we checked in took all of our stuff to our room unpacked and our daughter wanted to go swimming so we decided to just swim first before showering and resting...well an hour later we finish swimming and we get our towels that I had taken from our room well inside one of the towels it was full of brown stuff like it was not clean and then we get into our room and we go to shower and that's when we find out we had no water. we called the front desk and they told us it would be on in 2 hours they were just working on the main water line and had to shut it off. so here we are 16-17 hours with no sleep, no shower, wet and smelling like chlorine no choice to just sit and wait...3 hours pass and still no water at this time my 10 year old needs the bathroom and the toilet doesn't work so we call the front desk and they tell us we can take her next door to dennys to use the restroom and that it will be on in about 1-2 hours so 2 hours pass and finally we have water but its freezing cold so we took fast cold showers and went to bed hoping in the morning the water would be on and normal. Nope still ice cold water and the front desk told us we could use a room on the first floor to get ready in because they had hot water and the 3rd floor didn't and that's all they could do for us they didn't have another room for us to switch to. So we spend our second day (Friday) from morning till night at Disneyland one long day of walking and fun just to get back to our hotel and find out the water is off again and would be off until 10am Saturday morning!! once again we cant shower to freshen up, we can use the sink, we cant use the bathroom and the ice machines don't work. At this time I had enough the manager was very rude and had told us they would refund me but we would have to check out! so I found a room at the Hilton that we were able to check into on Saturday morning so we could shower before universal studios and contacted hotwire and was able to get my money back from this awful place!
