Stay away, unless you enjoy gambling. They sell used appliances with a very short warranty (details not on the website). We bought an older, used GE washing machine and dryer from this place. The first few usages were OK, but the machine gave off a burned oil smell soon afterwards. This problem only got worse and the washer eventually stopped working. Our clothes were always soaking wet after a wash cycle. Turns out the machine wasn't washing or draining properly, leaving everything sopping wet. And guess what? We were outside of the short warranty (30 days). The tech/repair guy was nice, communicated well and tried to help but overall this warranty window being so short does not give the customer a fair chance to catch problems with faulty used machines. We were charged for the tech coming to investigate despite being sold a very faulty product. They did offer to sell us another washer at 50% off but we weren't going to buy with them regardless after this experience. Overall avoid this place like the plague. Poor business model and too big of a risk for buying something that will fail in a few short months. If they stood by their products as the website claims, then why not offer a replacement free of charge and come to haul the broken machine away? That would be fair and they can even fix it and resell or even scrap the parts most likely and keep thier reputation intact at the very least. read more

Avoid this store at all costs. I had an extremely disappointing experience with Beta Appliances. I placed a deposit on a used refrigerator, but later found it didn't fit my space. I requested a refund, but they refused. One of the staff members assured me I could use the deposit as store credit for a future purchase, which I accepted. However, when I returned to buy a dryer and presented the original deposit receipt (which clearly shows I paid in cash), they claimed they had no record of it in their system and refused to honor the store credit. This business is dishonest and unreliable. Once they have your money, you won't see it again--no refund, no real store credit. It feels like a scam. Don't trust them. This is the second time I have bought washers/dryers from them. The first for my mom's house because a different repair person suggested many less problems with good old (5-10 years) machines. Beta's service was great then. And after having nothing but problems ever since I got my HE washer from a big box store a few years ago, it finally decided it wasn't going to run a cycle. A different repair person said a minimum of $350 to figure out what sensor or computer was the problem, although it was fixable. I decided to get another older unit from Beta. The one at my mom's gets daily use and no problems at all. I was in Beta right about the time they opened at 9am, chose it based on Sonny's recommendation, quick interaction for payment and a contract to deliver same day (!). After awhile I got a call that he would be on his way, Sunny came in and took out the broken one and installed the one I bought from him and he was driving away by noon! That is GREAT service. Avoid at all costs. Hired them to repair a fridge. Installed a used part without telling me. Repair was $180 for a water valve. Part went faulty 3 months later. Had to have a separate company install a new water valve. They charged me $212 for a NEW valve as opposed to $180 for an ancient one which didn't last 4 months. Ridiculous unethical business. Tried to resolve with them directly, they weren't interested. My response to the owners reply: You charged me $75 for an initial estimate + 105 for a useless part. The other company who has been in business 30 years charged me $55 for an initial estimate + $157 for the brand new part w/labor. (Your charge was $180 vs $212. Even if you had mentioned the used part, which my tenant nor I don't recall, you still sold me a junk part at virtually the same price as a new one. Had you given me the choice of a used part for $180 or a new one at $212 there is no way I would have opted for the old part. Perhaps your company quoted me some absurd price for a new part or the used one at $180. If you did that, still a questionable business practice as your average customer doenst know the true cost of parts you are replacing. Step your game up. read more

The NEW refrigerator I purchased at Lowes couldn't even cool the freezer down to zero degrees at the coolest setting. I returned it to Lowes and purchased a PROPERLY working fridge from Beta Appliances for half the price. In the showroom, all the appliances for sale are on display. Prices clearly marked. You can measure them to be sure they'll fit your space, and examine the products yourself. They were all very clean. There's often only one person on staff, so you may need to wait a bit to get your questions answered. The person I talked to, Sunny, was also the repair guy, so I valued his opinion on what refrigerator brands and models are built to last. I write the review as I consider taking Beta Appliances to Small Claims Court. I bought a washer and dryer for $978 total, including installation. I was out of town, got a recommendation from a trusted friend who used them before, and Beta said they would replace the current units while people were renting my house. The installer left the dryer with a gas leak, left the water connection valve for the washer broken, and left a mess of dust/dirt he found under the original units. He called me to say the units were installed. He called after he left the house, so he gave me no options - for example, he could have left the original working washer/dryer in place. Overall Beta took no responsibility for doing a good installation job. Beta's owner - TT - had her son call me back to negotiate a settlement for the botched installation. The son botched the installation. So they put the son in a position where I had to criticize his work - not a good feeling for either of us. It cost me $1,200 for a plumber to fix the water leak, and gas leak. A few weeks later the dryer stopped working. It cost another $300 for the technician to find after-market parts that had failed. I spoke with Beta's owner and again no responsibility. Actually, no one at Beta responded to me. Today I found holes in the sheets and shirts. I requested a return of both units and a refund. BETA delivered a refrigerator my landlord ordered through them. It was old but i didnt care i just wanted a working refrig. The first few weeks i played around with the temperature gauges because it wasn't getting cold enough. I could tell because i had to add ice to my milk. I tried adjusting the temp, then Id wait a few days and repeat. Also the refrig door wouldnt close easily. I would push it to closd and it would rdmain open about a half inch. This was becausd the front wheel was broken and. It wadnt sitting level. After many attempts and looking up info on google i decided to get the manufacturing info from inside the refrig. BETA had placed a STICKER over the manufacturing date. Hmmmmm. Once i was able to remove the BETA sticker i saw the date. The refrig was 24 years old. Thanks BETA. The refrig was a junker. They must have noticed the broken wheel while moving the refrig. When Sonny came out to take a look, he started touching all the items insidd the refrig. Sony said "everything seesms cold, so just your milk isn't getting cold enough". Yes there is such a thing as a stupid question. Then he tried to convince me that since the weather had been so hot that definitely affects the refrig temp. Well my apartment never gets over 85 degrees and it is only myself living here so the door isn't being opened a lot throughout the day. I had three temperature gauges and none of them were below 45 degrees. Sonny told me those were not reliable. I asked if he had anything to check the temperature. His response was "we don't use those". This conversation was if i was being punked. I kept asking myself...is this guy serious? I think they collect refrigerators from craigslist free ads and repair whatever refrigerators they replace when delivering a used unit. Sorry but these guys are not trustworthy. Just a total waste of time, energy and money. The 30 day warranty had expired so i got stuck with a 24 year old LEMON. Just thankful i didn't get cockroaches. read more

I researched the model numbers available by Beta Appliances and literally found prices as much as half the price for the same model number available at Sears Outlet, Amazon, Walmart, etc. And, then when I purchased my Whirlpool product it was old school attention to detail customer service by Sunny. This type of business just isn't available anymore. Great job by Beta! Our washing machine broke on New Years eve, going into a long holiday weekend. We called them at 10 and they came out just after lunch. They tested everything, put in a temporary testing part and diagnosed the problem right away. Because it was a holiday weekend they were not able to get the part until Monday morning. But first thing they called me, gave me the quote, and were out before lunch to fix it. They did not require me to buy the part ahead of time for them, as many repair places do, which was a nice change. And my washer worked perfectly before they charged me. We priced the part before they came back, to be armed with information. The part online was about $80, and they charged me $150 for the part, installation, and everything else. I thought this was a reasonable price, especially since I didn't want to manage the hassle myself. They made it all quite simple. I would definitely recommend them. To come out is $40, and then whatever it costs to repair it. This was fine for me, and in line with what other repair places charge. Something to note, they only accept cash or credit cards, not personal checks. Though the transaction was very smooth, it would have been helpful if they had told me ahead of time (though they may have told my husband.) read more

I have been trying to buy what I can used to avoid waste, so I checked Beta's inventory when we needed a refrigerator. I found one that looks perfect in our kitchen for a price I was willing to pay. They delivered it when they said they would with a phone call to confirm. The communication between the head office and the drivers isn't perfect. The office changed my delivery time and neglected to tell the driver, but it all worked out smoothly anyway. Two weeks later, the freezer stopped making coldness, so I phoned them back. A repair guy came out that day (at the time we'd agreed, with a call to confirm), and took it away to fix. He offered a loaner fridge, but we didn't need one, so I declined. It came back the next day, mostly fixed. The hose that feeds the water into the ice maker was connected back in the wrong place at the ice maker, so it sprayed ice water inside the freezer, which we didn't notice until it required a clean up. That we were able to fix easily ourselves, with a spare day to defrost and test again. It's running better than ever now. So that's a good thing. I can't expect that everything that might go wrong on a used appliance is going to be instantly detectable. It took two weeks for the problem to appear, and short of them running the fridge freezer for two week in the shop, I don't see any way they could have known about it. For me, the important thing is that they dealt with it right away, no problems, no arguments. All communication has been professional and courteous. We've previously had another fridge, a washer, and a dryer from Beta, all of which have performed flawlessly since their purchase. I would shop here again if they had something we needed. read more

But I found Beta Appliances ad through a Craigslist listing. I asked a lot of questions, and narrowed it down to 2 Kenmore units they had refurbished. I paid a bit under $500 for both units installed and delivered! Clearly not brand new units but in very decent shape and working condition... Terrible place. They make money taking advantage of people by selling faulty equipment that will break quickly after 30 days and then charging for repairs. I've used the machine 4 times and supposedly got it fixed yesterday. Running the washer and once again tripped my electric (dangerous) and stopped in the middle of my wash. Ugh. And they take days to come repair and aren't nice about it. Ended up buying a new washer. I never write reviews, but I'm hopeful this will help someone else. I was in need of a stack-able washer and dryer for my condo and found Beta Appliances while looking through Craigslist. They had posted a stack-able washer/dryer at a reasonable price. I called and spoke to a gentleman who confirmed the price, brand and other details. Once I visited the store and asked about the washer/dryer, he immediately hiked up $20 from the price we discussed and what was posted on Craigslist. He reluctantly offered the washer/dryer at the advertised price only after I mentioned to him that I had talked to him on the phone only few hours back and that we can take a look online to confirm. After that, the transaction was smooth. They agreed to deliver the W/D next morning and sure enough, they called me at 9:00 to confirm and the driver was outside my door at 10:00. I had to help the driver since my condo is on 2nd floor. He installed the unit, checked everything was working and hauled away the old unit. Overall, a good experience except the fact that I had to twist their arm just to honor the price they posted and mentioned on the phone. If you shop there, based on their Craiglist posting or other online ad, I recommend you print it out and bring it with you. read more

I LOVE this place! I have lived in the same place in Santa Clara for 24 years and I wish I had known about them sooner because they have been in the same location on El Camino for at least that long. I like to patronize small family businesses in my town, and Beta Appliances is just that! Great customer service, reasonable prices, good product! My first experience with them was about 3 years ago... I got a dryer from them, delivered the same day, the old one taken away. The owner (I think) installed it himself and was very professional, and my dryer is still working well to this day! So when I recently needed a new washer, it was a no-brainer to go back to the place where I got a great deal and great service! Sunny helped my son and me with politeness, professionalism, and knowledge about the products he carried. Even though we bought the washer at 3:30 in the afternoon, it was still delivered the same day by a very friendly service man who clearly knew what he was doing. One of my ancient faucet parts broke into pieces during the installation (not his fault, the part was rotten) and he even offered to buy me a new one and put it in the next day! He took care to make sure the machine connections were good and everything worked before he took away my old washer. I hope you don't go there expecting garage sale prices...this is a legitimate business. They warranty the products they sell and do everything in their power to make sure you get a good deal. I had high hopes based on the reviews... and a big disappointment. I went there to get a compact Washer/ Dryer and made that very clear to the person on the shop floor. I even told him specifically the maximum depth in the closet space where it was going (28.5in). That was my only constraint since width and height were not an issue. I also wanted to maximize the washer capacity. So he sells me a "great" stackable W/D measuring 27in in depth. Perfect! Except, he fails to tell me I need to clear additional 4in at the back of the dryer, for the vent pipe. The result? The W/D doesn't fit the space. I wrestled with this for 2 weeks and explored every option to make it work - even replacing the closet door with a curtain, it just looks horrible and doesn't help at all with the noise. Installing an indoor vent kit, which is really the only solution they offered, aside from costing me more money would cause all the heat to stay in the closet, which is inside the master bedroom, would make it hot and muggy. Finally, I decided to return it as it was not my fault that they didn't advise me of the additional space requirement, and now have been getting the run around, and excuses such as "the manager can't be reached". The bottom line: DO NOT rely on their advice to determine whether an appliance will fit your space or not, as they will not refund your money. read more
