This cute coffee shop is in Carlsbad, close to the Carlsbad street sign (perfect for photo ops). Just like all Better Buzz locations, the decor was on point and on theme, complete with hive shaped walls, and neon signage. It's perfectly quaint with some seating outside. It's a great place to pick up coffee from, then walk around the surrounding area, since it's near a few restaurants. The ice coffee was amazing, you can say it's the "best drink ever (it's the name of the drink and rightfully so, some days.) I mean, I have many fave coffee spots, and it just depends what I'm in the mood for. But Better Buzz is definitely up there. Service was quick and friendly. Stopped in to grab a matcha latte and realized I had never been to this location. They have a parking lot that isn't very big but I found a spot right out front. The space isn't huge and I actually prefer it to the Encinitas location. It doesn't feel as overwhelming. The staff were super friendly and cheery for a slow cloudy morning. So I was in Carlsbad this weekend for a wedding and we went to the beach early on Saturday like 9am and most of the shopping strip was abandoned except for people exercising BUT Better Buzz had a line, tables were full and I was like damn, I think I want something. At first I thought maybe they used honey as the main sweetener and then I thought do they put CBD or THC in the coffee because what does Better actually mean. Turns out they are a hyper local San Diego based specialty coffee roaster using ethically sourced FairTrade and Rainforest Alliance Certified beans. They are a certified organic roaster who prides themselves on quality and sustainability. But you'd never know unless you look them up because the menu is so cool and the vibe and decor is so lit, their standards aren't the first thing that comes through and I don't know if that's intentional or not. Even the website doesn't really talk about it. ANYWHO... I got a cloud matcha off their most popular drinks menu and I don't know what kind of coconut milk they are using but it was SO good. It was light in viscosity but strong fresh coconut flavor and occasionally you got a shred of coconut. The matcha was slightly sweetened which I appreciate not being overly sweet. Not grassy or bitter which honestly I don't mind but it was very smooth. I saw folks getting açaí bowls and hot breakfast type burrito looking things. It seemed to be a very popular location. Hopefully I can visit San Diego again and try more things but it's always nice getting a taste of what's loved by the locals. read more

Cute and new coffee shop, right on the corner of the busy Carlsbad streets. You can either order inside or they have an outdoor/patio window to order from. My husband had one of their cold brews and I had their matcha. The matcha was very creamy and smooth. Hubs enjoyed his cold brew and said it was the perfect balance of sweetness. Decided to see what all the buzz was about . At the order window there was a line, Sunday around 830, and I waited 5 minutes. Ordered the Best Drink Ever for my daughter, and Matcha Latte for me. Added an almond croissant too. I was directed to pick up inside where lots of people were waiting. Got excited when I heard my name but it was just for the croissant. So I waited another 15 minutes. Everyone working seemed pleasant and working hard. It wasn't like anyone was slacking. The small seating area inside was cute, and a few tables outside. definitely more of a takeout place. I decided it was the Universe asking me to be patient. ‍ I was stayinb positive "wow this stuff must be amszing for all these prople to wait so long." I finally got it, took the short walk home, then after all that anticipation DD and I both made a disgusted face because it was so sweet. It wasn't bad if you prefer a pound of sugar in your drinks. She compared her drink to a tiramisu and mine tasted like matcha ice cream. So this probably is great for others, but just not for us. Tough to review bc it wasn't bad but it wasn't great. I'd give it a 3 because we were disappointed in our drinks and the wait, but I bumped it up to a 4 because they were nice and the croissant was good, although a little saturated with buttery. The service tries very hard to be accommodating and attentive to their customers entering. They greet people when they walk in but at the counter the music was so loud because they have a speaker directly above the cashier. He couldn't hear me and I couldn't hear him. It was really frustrating. The food was okay but didn't really think there was anything special about it. The drink order was ignored and there was 5 people that received their cold drinks behind me. Finally a person behind the counter said "what did you have?" And they made sure I received it right away. This review is for Tuesday Sept 2nd at 440 pm. Came in hoping for a great coffee experience, but the service was incredibly off-putting. The cashier who took our order acted like we were a complete bother to her. There was no friendly greeting, and she seemed irritated to even be taking our order. When you work in a customer-facing role, a basic level of politeness and positive attitude is essential. It made the whole experience unpleasant, and it really makes you wonder where the management is and why this is acceptable. The coffee and the ice drink were fine, but the poor service ruined it. Horrible experience. I ordered 2 cold brews. One was 24 oz the other was 16 oz with almond milk added. When i went to get my drinks the 16oz with almond milk was only filled half way. I was puzzled and brought my drink back and asked was this standard since this was a 16 oz cold brew. I was told no and they remade my drink again and only filled it up 3/4. I asked could it please be filled to the top and the person who made my drink must have gotten angry because she filled it overflowing slammed the lid on and did not even wipe it down and handed it to me dripping. For the cost of a cold brew and the cost of just adding a splash of almond milk this was appalling. I am upset and angry and cannot understand this service. Tried to be a spontaneous person by taking a one day trip to San Diego and what kind of spontaneous trip would it be without coffee? Our destination was Legoland so a quick yelp search suggested Better Buzz Coffee and we went. On a Friday morning, the line was out the door. Their menu offers a good selection in each category and part of the reason why we chose Better Buzz was because they had food on the menu. They did have some issues when we first arrived with food orders being an estimate of 15-20 minute wait, but we weren't in a rush and opted to sit at one of the tables inside. The acai bowls are delish! The space is bright with indoor and outdoor seating with the workers being friendly. The breakfast sandwiches are on point as well and the coffee is yummy. I wish they had slightly more caffeine-free options for those of picking things up for others who want something on the weaker-side, but aside from a typical decaf, I didn't see a chai or something that could be made sans coffee (or maybe I didn't explore the menu hard enough). I really wanted to like Better Buzz, especially with all the hype and how popular it is as a local chain. But it kinda fell flat for me. The coffee was just okay, and for the price, I expected a bit more. It doesn't quite have that boutique coffee shop feel, more of a chain vibe, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it didn't match the cost or the expectations. I also tried one of their pop tart-style pastries and would have to say it's an easy pass. The inside wasn't the cleanest when I stopped in, which added to the underwhelming experience. Service was fine, but overall, it just didn't stand out. With so many great, smaller coffee shops nearby that offer better quality and atmosphere, I'll probably skip this one in the future.
